We visited this place for a takeaway during our recent holiday to St Merryn. Walked in to order food, the lady behind the counter was rude and not very approachable. Food order was wrong on returning to our holiday cottage, with two dishes missing. This was a shame because the food was actually ok. Check your food before leaving as we made the mistake not to!

Had takeaway and it has got to be the worst food I’ve ever eaten. Dishes swimming in grease, really unpleasant. Sadly £40 worth of food put in the bin, even the dog turned his nose up. Won’t be returning again

Ordered recently on a Monday evening , all the food was cooked fresh , and even though we had a 15 minute travel to get home the food was still piping hot . Friendly helpful lady in the Chinese and on the phone to order , it was cash only . The pancake rolls we had were homemade and so delicious, the chicken skewers were so tasty with huge pieces of chicken . Definitely would highly recommend.

Used this takeaway before. Good menu. Food was very tasty & plenty of it. Staff could be a kittle but more welcoming. Will use again when staying in the area.

We were slightly apprehensive about getting a takeaway from Spring House, because it only has 3 stars on Tripadvisor... however, we're SO GLAD we did, because the food was fantastic!! We had the mixed starter, which was HUGE, then Hong Kong style sweet and sour chicken, with egg friend rice - everything was perfectly cooked and super tasty. We were on holiday in Padstow for 2 weeks, so after the success of our first visit, we went again the following week! The customer service is a little brusque, but don't let this put you off!

We rang to place our order with some trepidation, given the reviews, but after a long drive and no chance to stock up supplies thought we'd take the risk. Telephone manner was even more concerning, as was the service (the young lady clearly did NOT want to be there, though she thawed towards the end). But we were really pleased when we tucked in. Everything was well-cooked and tasty, each sauce recognisably different and we had no issues at all (well, minor quibble, the quantity of prawn crackers could have been more generous for four - recommend ordering 2 packs). It was reasonably priced for the location, and there was little left for the doggoes, much to their dismay. We'll certainly try them again next time we're in this part of the county.

I was unsure weather to go here or not with so many mixed reviews, but I’m glad I did because my food was lovely. Maybe it’s because I only had the basics, but it was so nice I had it 2 days in a row. I got a Chicken Curry, Egg Fried Rice & an extra curry sauce which came to £16.40 which is a little pricey, but it does saves travelling all the way to Wadebridge or further a field. I would definitely use again.

Went four years ago, and disappointed, had a takeaway tonight and even worse. How can egg fried rice be so bad? Ribs so tough. Don’t bother.

honestly best chinese i have had in a while for 5 people the total cost was £50 which isn’t bad in my opinion also the wait for food was not long at all. 10/10 chinese. They also have a five star hygiene rating which is excellent. <3

WARNING DO NOT EAT HERE. The food is worse than bad. The squid, the noodles, the soup, the rolls, chicken. All went in the bin Unbelievable they are still open. Maybe even worse is the staff and management Laughing about customers, rude they really don't care. Eat here at your own risk!

We stayed in Padstow for a family holiday and ordered a delivery from Spring House Chinese. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered a wide range of food, starters and main courses, and they were all perfectly cooked and very tasty. Our delivery arrived on time and piping hot. Thank you!!!

Had a combo starter, 1/2 duck and a Hong Kong sweet and sour chicken to share. All was delicious and fairly large portions. Only criticism was having to wait over 90 mins for delivery after being given a delivery time of 7-8pm which is a bit vague. Would order for here again, but will collect!

Ordered for delivery after a long drive to St Merryn. Was well worth the wait! Excellent mixed starter, quarter crispy duck, and a sweet and soar chicken with egg fried rice. Tasted very nice indeed.

We’re staying at Watergate Bay and fancied a Chinese. Lots of Chinese takeaways are closed on Tuesdays in Newquay, so we travelled up to Spring House. We ordered prawn toast, vegetable spring rolls, Chicken Chow Mein, and Sweet and Sour Chicken Hong Kong style. We were so looking forward to the Chow Mein in particular, but unfortunately we had to throw it all away. The top half consisted of wet broccoli and other vegetables with wet chicken underneath it. Once we’d poured those away, plain noodles were sat underneath and they had an odd taste. Overall the whole dish smelt very strange and we didn’t feel confident in eating it. At our usual takeaway, we’re used to having light and fresh Chow Mein with spring onions and beansprouts, but this dish was nothing like it and we were greatly concerned about it smelling off. The prawn toast and vegetable spring rolls were fine, and the Sweet and Sour Chicken Hong Kong style was okay. We’re both, however, feeling quite underwhelmed (especially after our 20 mins drive to collect) and also feeling quite hungry! I’m not a fan of posting negative reviews but I wish I’d read something like this when considering our meal tonight. I would like to add, however, that the communication over the phone was brilliant and they were easy to order through.

Probably our third takeaway from here and again, very good. Don't understand the negative reviews about the place. Plenty of flavour and ofcourse freshy cooked to order in quick time. If I was being very critical, some of the portion sizes barely 2/3 filled the containers (especially the expensive prawn dishes)!. Nevertheless, the only local chivese t/a and can't wait to return.

The takeaway was very nice and hot plenty of starter . Tasty food . Friendly staff . We are from Yorkshire and the food was very good . Value for money . Had special fried rice combo starter . Plenty for two of us with some left . If we come again will defo . Get one again

We live very close to the Spring house and normally really enjoy Chinese food. This was our first and last visit , we selected five different main courses all of which were inedible, very disappointed.

Great food, ready in 10 mins on a Monday night out of season, especially loved the Malaysian curry’s which were fantastic. Will eat from here again

Very slow. Was told half and hour wait but actually spent 90 minutes waiting and when I enquired about how much longer they were extremely rude about how some tourists expect too much on busy days! Food was average. The salt & chilli ribs were...

The food was ok but some of it was missing. They take the money very quickly but don't mention the 2 hour wait. Orders by phone or in person were terribly late with no apology. All inquiries were met with it's being cooked or packed which was just lies. Wouldn't recommend. This used to be very good but has really done downhill. Apart from a limit in numbers and screen no Covid hygiene seemed to be in place. Would only take cash and at no point in two hours did I see a member of staff use sanitiser or wash their hands

I was waiting to collect my order and was unfortunate to witness another customer being accused of putting onion into his meal. I asked the gentleman what was wrong and he told me that he had ordered food and asked for 2 meals without onion, but all the meals had onion so he had telephoned to complain and was told he needed to bring meals back as they didn't believe him I have never seen or heard of this behaviour before and hopefully never will it was appalling! My meal was OK but wasn't anything special to return to this takeaway as customer service 0So if you don't mind rude manners and a meal with things you didn't want I would not recommend

Whilst the food passed as edible, I am flabbergasted by the level of customer service offered to me and my family. Completely disgusting to have requested that onions were left out of half our dishes, due to onion allergies within the family, we had to wait for over an hour and twenty minutes to only receive all of the dishes bar one, without onions as initially requested.When calling Spring House to report this we were outright told that we, the customer, were wrong and we should bring the dishes in to prove that there were indeed onions in them.Whilst not being overly annoyed to have to travel back to the restaurant, due to being in a holiday let directly opposite the restaurant, we were further insulted by the staff when we showed them the dishes and were accused of adding the onions, no less in front of a busy shop full of customers!!!! I have to ask how paranoid or wild the imaginations must be for the Spring House owners to think that whilst waiting for the food we had time to cut up and sweat some onions down prior to collecting the food?!?! Absolutely ridiculous. What should have been a nice meal was only marred by such the service we received! I would warn anyone else from ordering food from Spring House, as they need a stark lesson in customer service and how the customers satisfaction is key!

Really nice chinese food. Very busy however was last week of august. We pre ordered and we not disapointed. Good value and tasty.

The food was very tasty, but we couldn't get through over the phone and had to wait around an hour when ordering in person. This is understandable seen as they were very busy but I would order a while in advance if I were to go again. needless to say the food was great

We had two takeaways here whilst on a two week holiday.I was a bit surprised how good the Chinese was considering the reviews on here put me off.The satay chicken is the best satay chicken we have ever had ( more like the type you have as a starter - thicker peanut sauce as you would have for a starter) The chicken is a little unusual, I would say because it’s probably boiled, the texture is a bit strange but it didn’t put us off.Don’t let the reviews put you off.

Disappointing, after not being able to get through to order over the phone to then ordering and being told 30 minute wait for it to take 1 hour 40 was just not acceptable! Food was under average! Would not recommend!

Phoned in a telephone order to caravan site wanted it by 6 o’clock. Lady explains that delivery driver doesn’t start till 6. Food arrived by 6.05. Very hot still and good tasting. Very pleased

Ordered a takeaway for collection last night, (September 14th), the lady on the phone was very pleasant and friendly, got told it would be 15 mins, arrived about 12 mins later, food was ready when I arrived. Staff were all friendly and had a smile on their faces, checked the order before we left as traveling back to Padstow, everything was there, now I was very wary of ordering from a different Chinese, as the Chinese I usually order from was closed and I have never found a Chinese that compares, so I wasn’t expecting it to be great, but I was very pleasantly surprised, all the food was hot and super tasty, huge portion sizes, and all round very good. If you are in the area, I highly recommend this Chinese, I know when I’m in the area again I will certainly be back for another tasty Chinese :)x

We were VERY disappointed... all dishes came up thevsame . A good basic dish like chicken chow mien comes with more steamed veg than chicken ! .. everything looks and pretty much tasted the same ! We won’t be back ... beans on toast would be more of a treat

Any Chinese that is not your regular is fraught with danger, and the older negative reviews left us thinking we might not bother - as it's this place or nothing in this part of Cornwall - but the fact more recent reviews (which are what matter) were good convinced us to give it a go. So glad we did. 5 of us spent £70 as for the most part all dishes went down well and were hot and well flavoured. We phoned through and collected (only waiting 5 minutes beyond the time) and the placed seemed busy. We some trepidation I ordered exactly what I would at our regular Chinese and in some ways this was better! Portion size also good. Only negative is that the phone order was originally taken down incorrectly (the price on the phone flagged this), but it happens.

Really good, hot and freshly prepared take away. It’s amazing how easy it is for Chinese food to be done so badly, but this place hits the spot.Lots of lovely fresh, crunchy vegetables in the dishes they were used- something that other places often overlook.Not overly salty either, which again can so often be a downfall. My only criticism, and the reason for not giving 5 stars- there seems to be an unnecessary tendency to deep fry a lot of the dishes! We were feeding 4, and virtually every main course had been deep fried. Very unusual (although not wholly unpleasant) to see spare ribs and chicken wings dipped in batter - particularly at a Chinese!Still knockout though, and by our own standards definitely the best take away option in the area.

Holidaying at StMerryn Holiday Park and decided to try this place, it was very busy and waited about 15 minutes for the 4 meals ordered which was good. I had a hot chicken curry with fried rice and the curry sauce was dark and delicious, the chips were nice and crispy too. The staff were friendly and the prices reasonable. Not sure if I will be back to StMerryn but if I do I will definitely return.

We have just had a take away from here, lovely fresh food, really tasty! Friendly staff and very reasonably priced for the area (a pasty in Padstow will cost you a fiver!) we order from here every year we come down and will continue to do so! Thanks for a yummy meal!

We use this takeaway every time we visit Cornwall and we have found this to have been consistently good quality food for 10 years. We never have a holiday without a take out from Spring House!

We always come here for our Chinese Takeaway and have never been disappointed we decided to order takeaway from here in August the height of the summer busy season and worried because the demand would be higher that it might not be as good but it still didn’t disappoint still the same really yummy food and the Lady Owner is always really Happy will always go back

Average food delivered cold, biggest problem was the delivered our food to the campsite £34 but half the order was missing, we got chips rice ribs etc but no curry ?????

I can honestly say that this was the worst Chinese takeaway we have ever had. Fillet steak was disgusting (more like road kill), chicken chow mein was just as bad, chicken was like chewing rubber, noodles had a watery like sause which reminded me of flem, chicken ball had same chicken, batter was raw inside. Some strange lumps of ham in the friend rice. Chicken satay had the same chicken, the only dishes which where fit for consumption where the Thai king prawn and crispy chilli beef of which I assume where from a packet.

Planned to go out for dinner but most places were closed, not sure if it's a Monday thing or because England were playing this evening in the world cup.

We had a lovely takeaway with a selection of starters. Food tasty and good portion sizes. We only had one rice portion and that was more than enough for 3 people. Not badly priced either.

Chricken was lovely and so was the sauce three slices of carrots in the box and the green pepper was gone off also the pineapple was solid other than that the chips were cold and soggy so won’t be wasting my money next time

Whilst on holiday in padstow on the last night we decided to have a chinese meal and being the only chinese takeaway in the area ordered qrite alot of food and had it delivered just over an hour and a half later we get a phone call from the delivery driver he canrt find the address admittingly it is off the street a little but you see it was raining a little we had to go out and find him sitting outside are address believe me that dirty looking man and who ever it was were not going to get out that car for nobody they were to busy smoking with our food in the car and after all that beacause he couldn't be botherd to bring it it was cold and tasteless most of it got thrown away i read the reviews and realised there was no point in complaining please go out for chinese do not go here its really bad

Saves cooking but that’s about it. The chowmein was all bean sprouts and the satay beef was awful. Such a shame as its the only one near here now padstow has shut theirs. If you go they only take cash.

Love this chinese normally but lately it seems to have its priorities wrong. I rang my order though just after 7 and was told hr for delivery, which was fine its now been 2hrs and still no sign of my food arriving. It seems to prioritise walk in orders, not quite sure why they can't cook to order like any other food premises; anything from fast food to a Michelin star restaurant manages to do this simple task. Shame....I'm not sure if they are under new management or have new owners but its definitely had a massive change for the worst.

Ordered food and collected, whilst on holiday, Seriously impressed with the quality all of the dishes ordered. This is the best Chinese Takeaway that I've had in a long time, the only problem is that it's a 270 mile journey from home.

Ordered a variety of different dishes for 6 hungry people. We were not disappointed. I went in and placed my order with a friendly smiley young lady. The food took about 20 mins to cook then a quick drive back to the starving family. Delicious. All the different dishes were hot and fresh. The vegetables were crunchy, the batter crisp and the rice and noodles perfectly cooked. We cleared the lot. Very happy with the taste and quality. We will be visiting again.

La primavera es una casa china tome un poco de distancia en la calle Merryn. Ofrece el rango normal de platos asociados a precios normales, incluyendo arroz, noddle, curry y chop suey" al platillo - platos para nombrar unos pocos. Servicio y cocinarlos estaban bien, con una buena comida siempre que todos disfrutamos de nuestro grupo. No hay opciones de asientos, pero vale la pena intentarlo cuando local.

Just had a delivery - not impressed at all - expensive but very poor. Sweet & Sour balls - batter not hot enough so sloppy batter. Szechuan chicken nasty - sauce was a bottle of sweet chilli sauce - mushrooms in dishes were black - at least bother to use fresh - if this was cooked by a Chinese chef - I doubt it - all in all definitely would not bother again.

Visited again and wasn't disappointed young chow fried rice and sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style delicious hot and good portion would recommend to any one.

Want to thank the staff they were very friendly and helpful. The food we ordered was hot and produced fresh with out delay. I would like to praise them for the quality of the food it is probably one of the best Chinese/Malay I have eaten in the UK.

One of very few takeaways in the Padstow area, so we were a little nervous. Need not have worried - really good food, freshly cooked and tasty. Good value as well.

I'm from Hong Kong so wasn't expecting much of this place but it was a lot better than I thought it would be! We ordered simple dishes to be on the safe side so we had beef fried rice and chicken chow mien which were both cooked to order (they were finishing up when we arrived to pick up). Quite greasy but that's to be expected I suppose. Despite some of the other reviews, we found the portion sizes just right for us. Portions in the U.K. Are getting bigger and bigger and I can never finish a meal out anymore! This was a good size and I wasn't too full after. I'm curious to try some more dishes now so will probably order from here again!

This is the second time we have used this takeaway &amp; again it doesn't disappoint. Please don't be put off. By the lack of spending in the order/waiting area the food is really good &amp; when we went last week it was really busy of which says a lot.I would highly recommend this Chinese Takeaway the only reason for four stars is I thing the crispy chilli beef could do with more of a sauce but that's a personal thing it was still very nice indeed !

This was the worst Chinese we have ever ate the list is too long, what I will mention is this the special fried rice, which is box standard anywhere really the meat used partly in it is SPAM yes tinned spam! Disgusting couldn't get our heads around it. Don't recommend, wouldn't go again.

This used to be a good Chinese takeaway but the last 2 times we have had a takeaway from here it has been ridiculously salty, so much so that one of the dishes both times was inedible. The last time I rang them and told them and they said 'thanks for letting us know' and that was it. Not at all impressed with the quality any more. The portions are fairly small and the amount of the expensive ingredients, e.g. prawns, chicken or other meat, is very small in each dish. Such a shame especially because this is the only Chinese takeaway in the village. I agree with another reviewer that if there were any competition this takeaway would be long gone.

We got there just before they were going to shut. That didn't bother them. The friendly staff cooked us our food and it ended up being the best ever Chinese takeaway I have ever experienced. It was tasty, plentiful and just delicious. Top marks for exceptional service, quality, quantity and friendliness. When I'm back in Cornwall, I will go back here - it will be a must! Thank you.

Average food - fresh but nothing great - unfortunately as the food chilled you could see the MSG forming which put us off - again only takes Cash - get a card machine - don't think we will be going back but there are only a few options near us and we are yet to try Ocean City in Padstow however it looks so run down it is not inviting

I really do feel that if this place had any competition it would be closed withing a month. The portions are average to small. The ingredients are miserly when it comes to the meat and it is never better than 50/50 that they will get the order right. I have used the place six years in a row and have yet to have a meal that was really good and have come to accept the fact that if I can say "it was not too bad" that is as good as I am going to get. As for the prices in spite of the recession they have gone up every single year at the same pace as the meat content to the meals has gone down. Sadly if you fancy a Chinese and don't want to travel to far then this is where you are going to have to buy from.

Luckily we only bought a couple of dishes as a top up to some food we had delivered by the Thai lady at baanwaanthai up the road, otherwise we would have been hungry as the food we ordered was practically inedible. Even the prawn crackers tasted 'off'. The food was made in a thick glutinous sauce which was quite salty. I not think they used MSG, but it had that general texture and aftertaste. Our order was put into the bin. I probably should have heeded the other warnings on TA that this place is pretty dire, but unfortunately gave them the benefit of the doubt.

We visit the area every year and this is a must for the family each year! It is best to order in advance otherwise you may find yourself waiting a while, but certainly worth the wait. Lovely food to restaurant standards.

This is an absolutely lovely place and Chris and David are the perfect hosts and cannot do enough for you. They are knowledgable about the surrounding area and are happy to give you advice regarding places to go and places to eat. The fact that there are two lovely Labradors there is an added bonus! The rooms are thoughtfully and tastefully set out and the bed is very comfy! We would definitely return

We holiday in this area every year and always have had a takeaway from Spring house. It's always very busy and we've not had anything We have disliked. If you are prepared to either ring your order or go do some other shopping , orders can take a while.

It may look a little run down but the food was absolutely lovely. probably a bit pricy but reliant on summer trade so fair enough. all five of us loved it.

We own a caravan in the and know the shops and the village quite well, The Chinese takeaway in the village should be inspected, it looks grubby and smells grubby, the curtain strung hap hazardly over the kitchen entrance is so dirty and grubby it needs to be thrown away not washed, the floor and the paintwork inside the shop has not been upgraded for years and the chipped and broken tiles etc need to be replaced as surely broken and cracked ties etc are a health hazard. When we ordered food we waited an hour for it to be ready, there were people in there complaining and one man demanded his money because after arriving to collect his order that he had placed an hour and 40 minutes earlier, after a heated discussion a tidy sum was eventually refunded and he left, When we eventually got our order and returned to our caravan to discover the beef ???? curry we had ordered was the consistancy of a cold sloppy soup and so bad it was not edible, there was no point in taking it back as there is a notice telling customers that all food must be checked before leaving the premises, however on hindsight I'm sure this is illegal and trading standards should be notified of this takeaway and its poor standards. we go into Newquay now and pick up Chinese or use the fish and chip shop in the village

Its a standard chinese takeaway, put your order and in wait for it to be cooked. Order taken quickly, given estimated time and collected as expected. Food was as expected, bog standard chinese food, not exceptional, nothing to complain about. Friendly staff taking order and seemed quite busy.

Unpleasant girl in the counter, dirty dirty front of house. A lick of paint would have made a difference. Dirty curtain covering kitchen which looked quite dirty too. Customer service skills and as a previous customers has highlighted, if your order is wrong or looks terrible you are forced to check before you leave as no returns. They also don't take cards. My food was unacceptable, rubbery squid covered in grease batter, not what the menu said. No joy when l pointed this out to little miss rude. Rice inedible. Don't bother

This is the perfect example of a Chinese with no competition. There is no other within a 10 mile raduis and sadly it shows. Its not the worst ive had but very far from the best. Would not recommend unless your craving for processed meats and MG is so overpowering you feel the need to waste your money. We have had a caravan at St Merryn for six years, this is only the second time we have used it. I remember why now.........

It was late, we were hungry, needed to grab a quick bite. Wish we hadn't bothered. No point going back to complain as the notes on the door make it clear they don't care about customer service.Had honey glazed ribs - goodness only knows what animal the ribs came off! never seen anything so small or grizzly. The honey was substituted with Syrup which made the whole dish taste really bad. Also had house special fried rice..........Blimey I didn't think any Chinese could get this wrong but this lot did....it was so bad even my dog, who normally eats anything turned her nose up at it.

Ordered take out from here despite all the negative signs on the door - no cards, no cheques, no refunds after you have left the shop if your food is cold or missing dishes. Fairly speedy service. Not the best chinese food we've ever eaten but it was okay.

Whilst on holiday in St Merryn we decided to get a takeaway from here. Firstly the customer service is poor, the lady taking our order took forever to calculate the cost, when we returned 30 minutes later to collect our order we were told she had miscalculated and we had to pay an additional £11.50!All over the shop there are signs saying that if you food is cold or items are missing then it's pretty much tough luck! Great customer service! The quality of food was ok however all of us had upset stomachs during the night and the following morning. Wouldn't recommended this place at all. Go elsewhere.

We've been visiting this beautiful part of Cornwall for 7 years and have a caravan at Harlyn sands so have been using this taka way for a very long time. It started off being good and over the years has steadily gone downhill. Last night we placed an order and vowed never again. The beef was inedible and the only taste from the mushrooms was the overpowering weeks old oil they had been cooked in. Also in the past we haven't minded paying a small delivery charge especially in the busy summer months, but to be changed £2.50 for less than a mile even before the season had started was just too much. We won't be ordering from them again, we will find somewhere in Padstow and collect it ourselves.

Umm if I had read some of the previous reviews before we went I may not have bothered but I can only review on our experience so here goes. The first impressions are not good. The waiting/ordering area is not very inviting with a definite smell of damp. The young English lad taking the order lacked personality but got the job done. This was a Thursday evening in March so they weren't that busy so our order came within 10 mins. The food we got was very nice. Tasty, cooked well which is vital with prawn and chicken dishes. We were pleasantly surprised and would go there again.
