Best Sunday lunch we have ever had out. Can’t believe we have lived in the village for years and never been there before. Will definitely be going back

Great Breakfasts and Sunday Roast. Local produce shop within. Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Proper old fashioned pub. Great beer, Ales and Cider. Arctic Sky now on.

Popped in for a breakfast and was very impressed. I arrived a bit before opening by mistake but was still offered a coffee and allowed to sit. Chose the vegan breakfast and it was large, hot a delicious and great value. Sat in the conservatory and could plug in the laptop to do some work. Chatted with a local and it was wondeful. Would recommend

We had lovely evenings here while staying on a camp site nearby, staff were so friendly Food was really good we had the steak special, great atmosphere would definitely recommend And the shop that connects to very good range of things and reasonable priced

Our furry baby was in for a groom with Sam up from the inn. She suggested the inn for breakfast. We got to the inn by 10ish. Ordered a small breakfast. Small vegetarian breakfast and a full breakfast. Breakfast was hot when it arrived. Customer service excellent. Highly recommend. Will visit again. Excellent. ☺️

Good choice of food, served in good time and good value.

Some members of my family were there for a funeral and stood at bar for at least 20 mins but the barmaid with attitude would not serve them. She served everyone else. She needs retraining on how to be polite to customers who pay her wages and not laugh at them. Be aware, non locals, even though he lived there for years. They were there for a funeral and this treatment was upsetting.

This is a fantastic place to eat, especially as my partner is allergic to wheat. The friendly and trustable staff have no problem catering to our specific needs. It is good value for money, friendly, relaxed, homely and welcoming.

We had a fabulous welcome and the staff were attentive to detail. The atmosphere was so homely and the service was 5star. The Food was extremely well presented and full of flavour. Again 5 star We would definitely recommend a visit and the shop out the back is a hidden gem

Popped down to the sportsman's for a Sunday lunch, wasn't disappointed, really good food, good ale and very friendly staff, will definitely be going back 👍.

Because we had heard good reviews about the Duck we met for a very rare morning to enjoy a spare moment with our daughter for breakfast. Unfortunately we will not be returning for a meal. We waited over an hour to receive our breakfast of 2 full and. one vegetarian. Despite being only three being there. The vegetarian breakfast was asked to be supplied with poached eggs but arrived with fried eggs. My daughter and husband both breakfasts arrived later than the my breakfast, our daughters breakfast was dropped on the floor by the waitress. Clearly stressed after the remark that the eggs were incorrect, ( fried not poached) the toast and tomatoes were picked up off the floor with an offer to replace only the toast, however our daughter had no tomatoes supplied. A short while later the waitress arrived with the toast whilst busy answering a phone call, toast dropped on the table with a so called apology whilst still in the telephone call. Our daughter and myself were busy exchanging the incorrect eggs which we informed the waitress we would do, however, I have an allergy to meat which is why I ordered the vegetarian breakfast. I could only have 1 egg as the other was very close to the meat. Eggs and mushrooms were over cooked, very shrivelled. I am unable to digest meat, mistakes from others have put me in hospital for a week, obviously it is something I would rather avoid. However, My daughter and my husband said their breakfast were very tasty, the bacon and sausage tasted good. The wait we didn’t mind because we had time to chat, a one off experience. The man behind the bar was very pleasant and couldn’t do enough to please. Very welcoming. I would return for evening of drinks but definitely not for a meal. A very pretty pub, plenty of parking, A shame to leave negative feedback.

A proper traditional pub.The staff are so welcoming and nice,the food is outstanding the presentation on the food is beautiful Is there much more to say than if your in the local area you should definitely check it out!

The Sportsmans Arms has a problem with an rude barman. Bear with me as this takes a little explaining. We arrived at the pub having made a booking for dinner. After a few moments a friendly waitress gave us some menu's and returned to her duties. Moments later another friendly member of staff asked if we were ready to order, of course having just received the menu's we weren't ready to do so. This will become relevant later. Subsequently we placed our food order and all seemed well. The food was taking some time to arrive, so after about 45 minutes I enquired at the bar if it would be much longer. After eventually getting the barman's attention I was told that every patron had ordered at once, and he added that when we were first asked what we wanted to eat we weren't ready. Customer service was clearly not his forte. He repeated several times he was happy to cancel the order and his final words, as he disappeared into the kitchen were "I don't need to be here, I could be retired". How this was pertinent to the situation I have yet to ascertain. I would have accepted "sorry we're really busy, I'll check with the kitchen". But to be blamed for the reason our order was late is a new one to me. Eventually our meal arrived via our original, very friendly, waitress. On a more positive note the food was excellent and clearly freshly cooked. It is also a nice solid old fashioned Cornish pub with a good atmosphere. Just a shame about the barman.

Proper pub. Great choice of drinks. Excellent menu. We had the brisket fries and pizza. Absolutely amazing. Also a little deli in the back full of local produce. Lovely place.

Such a welcoming pub. The staff go out of their way to make your visit special. The kids got to make their own ice cream milkshakes which were very reasonably priced. We enjoyed Karaoke with the kids on Saturday night which wasn’t so loud you couldn’t chat etc. Great night, we will be back during the remainder of our holiday. A short walk from Lanyon Park.

Great breakfast served every day from 9am. Brilliant shop selling local fresh produce and quality dried/ tinned foods and local crafts. Specials changed regularly, great variety all week. Sunday roast is a must try.

Had a fantastic cooked breakfast this morning with family and friends. The coffee was great too! Very welcoming and friendly staff. Will definitely be paying a visit again either to eat or to purchase from the farm shop. Thanks!

Welcoming hosts, a truly original style pub

Proper locals pub and the food is superb, and prices are so affordable,, Friday curry night £10.95 Inc a pint. That's 6.95 for a full month curry,

My wife is doing extra shifts because the 2 other staff in the post office are away so Saturday morning and again Monday all day so as the dutiful husband I said we going out for sunday lunch. We had booked earlier in the week which is not essential at this time of year but even so on arrival the car park was quite full convincing me we had done the right thing. Entering the pub we found quite a number of people in and around the bar mostly villagers but also visitors. We ordered our drinks and sat at table soaking up that lovely atmosphere you find in Cornish pubs. Although we were a lot earlier than we had booked for we asked if we could eat earlier and Roger the owner and landlord said they would do what they could. We also met a friend who was dining alone and they joined us and after a very short wait lunch was ordered. From our table we could see through into the dining room which as expected was quite full. We were called to our table where our starters were waiting. The table was clean and well laid and our food looked delicious. So tucking in everyone said the food was delicious which covered prawn cocktail, prawn twister and soup. The food was well presented hot and tasty with portion size very good. starters gone our mains arrived and first thoughts amazing beautifully presented very well rounded plates beautiful fresh veg and the important bit meat and loads of it. My order was duck and the skin was crispy with the meat being tender and tasty. all the veg were very tasty my particular favourites cauliflower and also mashed Swede but also carrots peas and broccoli combined with roast potatoes and yorkshire puddings. Everything on my plate was delicious and I was very happy with my choice. Moving on the sweet a good round choice but I took the easy option ice cream and again good portion size well presented and delicious. To round up a really enjoyable very tasty and filling meal served by friendly staff. Of course any mustard, sauces were readily available and my duck came with a small bowl of plumb sauce. Would we go again? you betcha

Called in here on the off chance of passing. Myself, husband and son all had a main meal and dessert. Food was great standard, well priced and served with a smile. Its what I would call a proper pub very old fashioned and had a peaceful atmosphere. The fact it was dog friendly made it perfect for my family. Thankyou

Good Food at very reasonable price

It has now become tradition on a Wednesday 4 of us got to this pub for lunch. The great benefit apart from the great food ambiance and mine host is the cost. A main course for £3.95 a choice of 4 or 5 from traditional fish chips and peas to a beautiful Mediterranean risotto and a range of jacket potatoes ham egg and chips and scamp chips and peas. The portions are not huge but certainly quite adequate and the quality of all the meals is excellent. Add to this service with a smile of course an excellent range of drinks and beverages you finish up with a great meal out in great surroundings. We have been many times and never had any complaints or mishaps of any type. Roger and family keep up the excellent work

Every Wednesday lunch time the pub has a special menu and the price is amazing. Starting at £3.95 with a choice of 4 mains they are cod chips and peas, ham egg and chips, jacket potatoe with salad and scamp chips and peas. All come with usual add-ons like tartare sauce lemon etc and represent excellent value for money. All cooked to order brilliant quality and served by very friendly staff who are always willing to help. The bar of course is well stocked and my favourite Doom Bar is on draft. Not fine dining but beautiful old pub fantastic value and really relaxing atmosphere. Lunch menu extends a little with another 4 mains at £4.95 including veg lasagne or normal, chicken tikka masala etc. Well worth a visit

We have recently moved into the area and were looking for a local pub. I was disgusted to find out that you host the local Fox Hunt. You will not be getting our custom.

We have lived in the village of Four Lanes for nearly 3 years and have kept saying we would take advantage of the mid week offer on at the sportsman for lunch and this week with no work we decided that would be a great way to spend a lunch time after walking the dog and shopping . Of we went almost within walking distance and when we arrived were greeted by the staff who explained we could either eat at a table in the bar area or the restaurant. We chose to have a drink first and then when lunch ready would move through to the dining area. I had a pint of Doom Bar and my wife a glass of Sav Blanc. On a recent trip to another local hostelry I'm sad to report that the Doom Bar was the worst pint of beer I have ever nearly consumed and I have consumed this beverage from as far North as Aberdeen so I think I am able to comment. So the Doom Bar here is amongst the very best a tribute to the staff who maintain all the equipment and the white wine my wife said was also of a very high quality. After a very short while we were told that our meals were nearing completion so refilled our glasses and moved into dining area. All laid out ready were tables and we basically had our own choice. The meals then arrived and my Fish chips and mushy peas with a tartar sauce looked very inviting ,the quantity was very good and of course the taste awesome. My wife had scampi which is one of her favourites and again the meal was very well presented with chips and garden peas also with tartar sauce. We really enjoyed our main course then decided we would have a sweet. My with had ice cream whilst I ventured into a treacle pudding with clotted cream. Suffice to say we enjoyed both and we felt very satisfied with our meals. When you consider a mile or 2 down the road you can get a standard cod and chips for £6.20 with no peas or sauce and the main course here on a Wednesday will cost you £3.95 I think it is extremely good value for money and would recommend this establishment to anyone. The menu is not wide but a good choice available even for vegetarians.

We went to The Sportsman for a drink and a meal with friends to thank them for looking after our 12 year old border collie while we were away on holiday. We started with a drink in the bar area and noted that there were about 8 other people in the bar which as a mid week night I was surprised at. I explained to the lady behind the bar that I wanted to pay for all the drinks and the meal so could I open a tab and then pay at the end in one go. This was not a problem and we started with our first drink. Obviously being a pub the choice available was excellent and the Doom Bar beer proved to be a good choice for me. We sat chatting as you do and then ordered a second drink. At this point we were asked to go through to the restaurant and order our meal. Remember this is a pub so the choice although fairly basic was good enough for all our party to order what they wanted. 2 Fish "cod" and chips a ham egg and chips and scampi chips and peas. When the food arrived after a short while the first impression was good. Presentation 5 out 5 the fish and chips came with mushy peas a slice of lemon and small portion of tartare sauce. You would expect the chips to be frozen but were well cooked as was the rest of the meal. Portion size was very good and the batter on the fish just how I like it really crispy. Everyone ate all the food and then 3 of us decided to have pudding. 2 chocolate cakes and cream and a treacle pudding with cream and ice cream. Delicious. We also partook of a third drink and everyone was very happy with the evening. The total bill came to £65 and I consider this really good value for money. The service all round was friendly and welcoming but also efficient and would recommend this establishment for a good cheap meal/night out

This great local pub is a must visit if you're staying in the area. It's a no frills local pub with great pub grub and a friendly atmosphere. We stayed at the nearby Lanyon Holiday Park for the 2nd year running and came back here because it was so good!

We did not have food but the menus look very good. We had few beers and wine at this pub lovely atmosphere, dogs welcome and snacks avaliable behind the bar while staying in cornwall we came to this pub four times.

Went for Sunday roast with the extended family. Decent portion sizes however some of the veg was on the cold side. Decent price for three courses and table service.

Impresionante comida casera y todos una ganga en £11 para 3 campos Def. Volveremos muy pronto y siempre uso como mi local de ahora en adelante. Amable, encantador!!! Sonia

Fuimos allí para una comida de domingo y sin duda volveremos. Muy buen ambiente, buena selección de cervezas, y un magnífico almuerzo de 3 platos a un precio muy razonable. El servicio es excelente. Ambos tuvimos ternera y era realmente bueno. Para aquellos que no conocen la zona es de cuatro carriles, que se encuentra a un par de millas fuera Redruth en la Redruth hasta la calle Helston.

As I am local to the village never got around to trying Sunday lunch as a local Head Chef always working Sunday's but until now WOW!! Great service, Great food, Great selection of starters and desserts, the lamb was so tender.The restaurant was full of locals which says it all £10 for 3 courses great value, we will be back.

Stayed at the YHA in Portreath and this pub was recommended for Sunday Lunch, amazing food for an amazing price, three courses for £10, several choices for each course and they didn't scrimp on the portion sizes. Food was full of flavour, the restaurant was nearly full and the staff were very helpful, even when I asked for a glass of milk for my son! I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting. Would definitely go back again.

Old fashioned pub - a locals pub atmosphere, but with loads of food choice on offer. Special offers for each evening, so was hopeful of a decent meal. Had the cod and chips, was OK, but had to fight through lots and lots of crispy batter to get to small amount of fish.Big seating area at rear, but wifi was not working there. The free wifi was good speed in main bar, but atmosphere not great there with large TV dominating - on loud showing afternoon soaps so you could not talk.Staff were friendly and helpful (although careful with your change - I was short changed at bar by a fiver and when I mentioned, no apology - just a comment re "well you're told to check the change").Overall not my idea of comfortable eating or drinking location. Not as bad as review I read on Yell though.
