Spice Village in Mid Sussex

Saturday night. We had Chicken Dhansak, Palak Chicken, vegetable rice, onion bhaji and chapattis. All very tasty.

We ordered a takeaway. It was good, sometimes it’s excellent.

Always my go to Indian! Always eaten in, not had a take away. I went here for my birthday meal last night and it was a table of 8, the service was amazing, all food came at the same time - of course tasted amazing as always! They were happy to bring out a birthday cake, gave us a free spirit of choice at the end. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves an authentic curry. (Chicken Bhuna is incredible) Thank you to all the staff as Spice Village for making my birthday even better last night.

Very tasty, all fresh very impressed with flavours, Naans and Saag Aloo best I’ve had for a very long time. Hidden gem, limited sitting so advise to book.

The food at Spice Village is consistently very good, and of exceptional value. The quality is super and the quantity is substantial. The staff are friendly and will explain dishes that may be unfamiliar to you. We were a group of five and booked for the evening when the street festival was on, so it was a party atmosphere. Wine is often expensive when dining out, but here the house wine is very reasonable and nice. My favourite dish is Chicken Tika Pathia, and Spice Village prepare it perfectly, well done.

Was really looking forward to a nice curry on Saturday but this just didnt hit the spot. Ordered on line came fairly quickly had to pay a service charge and delivery charge. Tasteless and expensive didn't have starters only poppadams plus 5 curry's and rice and a couple of Nans - cost £92 shall return to Balti house next time

We enjoyed a very good takeaway this evening. We live in Leicester and so often don’t expect such good food when elsewhere. Next time we come to Cuckfield we will call in to have a meal.

We had the following items: Mixed Starter Plain Pappadoms Mint Sauce Mango Chutney Garlic Coriander Nan Pilaw Rice (Vegan) Masala Dish - Chicken Passanda Goan Chicken Just shy of £44. Well worth it. My favourite Indian takeaway has always been Tarana's in Turners Hill but I'd say based on our first experience with Spice Village (and that it's five minutes from us) that it could very well compete for that gloried honour 😄😉. The staff are professional. The food was very tasty and my ordering online experience was seamless. Great job guys. You've got a new customer 👍

Ordered food for delivery. A lot of the meat was stale and chewy. Paratha was oily and had a weird texture, could not finish it. Pricey for what I got as well. Definitely not ordering again.

I ordered a takeaway for the family from Spice Village at 18:30 on a Sunday evening. It was due to be delivered at 19:55. I got a notification at around 20:10 to say it was on its way and then at 20:40, my order was cancelled out of the blue. Leaving me in a position where my family, including 16 year old son with school the next day, had not been fed. Absolutely appalling.

Another brilliant meal from Spice Village. It never disappoints. I moved close by about 3 years ago and its always a treat - I know people from Hurspierpoint, Burgess Hill and even as far as Patcham who travel to get their takeaways here ! Wouldn't go anywhere else and highly recommend.

We had an evening meal. We opted for the Sunday special. Three course set menu however they tried charging us for the individual meals. Extremely rude and dishonest manager. I do not understand how this place has got so many good reviews. Maybe we got them on a bad day. Never again

I’ve found my new Indian Takeaway! Very impressed with everything I ordered, food tasted great, delivery arrived when we asked for, perfect.

I have visited this restaurant often since it first opened, and never had reason to complain about the food or service. The food is great and is cooked fresh to order, I have been in the kitchen and seen how clean and organised it is. Our family and friends like the staff there, who will engage with you, if you are civil and friendly to them. Judge this family run restaurnt on the consistantly great food it provides. My particular favourite meal is Chicken Tika Pathia, with Mushroom rice and Peshwari Nann bread. Some are natural complainers, try the Spice Village food and judge for yourself. Of great value are their Sunday evening fixed price meals.

First time. All was delicious, hot and very tasty. Reasonably priced too. And the order was correct.

I don't understand the negative comments but each to their own. I love a really good curry and this restaurant is up there as one of my ultimate favourites. If you are looking for a very flavoursome, generous portion of non greasy, top notch curry, I recommend this restaurant.

We had an evening meal here, the elderley waiter was polite but not freindly at all, we were the only people in the restaurant for the first hour a couple came in and just got up and left after 20.mins as they weren't even offered a drink, yet the waiter was standing eating his dinner out of a bowl in full view! He never smiled at all and was quite abrupt at times but always polite. The atmosphere wasn't very nice and completely quiet we felt we had to whisper no back ground music at all. The food we had was average abd the nan breads were very doughy. We were so looking forward to our meal it was average. Overall the experience wasn't good for us at all. Maybe we caught them on a bad day.

Unfortunately, the Spice Village was entertaining a group of loud, foul mouthed and over boisterous men (middle aged) when we visited so, we left without sampling any of the delights on the menu which, was a great shame. Come on Spice Village, control your 'over-excited' customers or, you may lose many others!

We eat regularly at this restaurant and always receive a very warm welcome . The food is always delicious and the staff are courteous friendly and helpful .

Initially, the food tasted nice although a bit salty. Delivery was 25mins later than the 50mins estimated on a Thursday evening. The tikka salmon starter was £7.95 for 3 x 2cm pieces of salmon!!! An outrageous rip off!! Plus, you have to buy onion salad and condiments separately to the poppadoms. We didn’t sleep well at all last night, heaven knows what has been added to the food, and I can still taste it this morning!! I would not order from here again and highly regret having done so. Total cost was just under £40 delivered via Deliveroo, we had 1x onion bhaji starter, 1x tikka salmon starter, 1x spicy poppadom, 2x plain poppadoms, onion salad, mint sauce, lime pickle, 1x paneer dhansak, 1x pilau rice, 1x aloo gobi. See attached photos. Highly disappointed in the quality of the food as we very thirsty during the night, slept badly and could still taste the meal this morning! Yuk!

Impressive. Been really disappointed with lots of Indian takeaways in haywards heath. This was really good and nice to know that we have a local place we can go back to. And quick on delivery too for a Saturday night. Will definitely use again.

Very disappointing to say the least. Pretty sure they did not get any of our order right. And what we actually we got was bland and I'm being kind. Where do I begin; stale poppadoms (seriously, how can you mess them up!) Chutney which I bet was outit of a jar, way too sweet. I ordered Chicken Saag but got good knows what, see pictures. We ordered pilau rice, see picture, err definitely not Pilau. My friends chicken Tikka masala looked like giant tomato threw up a pizza and didn't taste much better. I order red daal and yes look at the picture, jaundice in tin foil. Whatever I got (not Saag) was tasteless, how can you make spinach tasteless, that is an unwanted talent. If you wonder why we didn't bring it back, because we'd opened everything before we suspected we had the wrong order, our next mistake was trying to eat it. And it was all pretty pricey imo. In summary our garlic naan was ok. That speaks volumes.

This food was terrible, probably the worst Indian food I’ve ever had and there was so much salt in it I was up all night drinking water. A very disappointing experience after reading such good reviews too, it was meant to be a surprise treat for my wife. In addition to the poor food the staff were more interested in watching the football on their TV than serving our mea, the customer service experience was non existent. I would definitely not recommend this restaurant.

Sad to say very poor curry . Very runny and tasteless sauce on madras and korma and undercooked naan .Not often I don’t clean my plate . Try to support local business as much as possible but sadly won’t be back . It can’t be that hard to taste and quality control .

Seemed to be the only place open in Cuckfield on a Sunday night but despite that it was a very tasty Indian. Very good value on the Sunday night offer, well worth a visit.

Still the best Indian restaurant in the Mid Sussex area. Great hospitality and atmosphere and the food somehow just tastes better than other places. Getting a takeaway is perfect for increasing my popularity with family visiting from Germany and/or Spain who miss their spicy curries.

Having lived in Leicester and east London, I'd like to think that I know what a good curry looks like. And before anyone feels compelled to point out that my concept of what constitutes curry is an inherently Anglocentric and steeped in the bloody history of colonialism, I know and agree, but I do really rather like the taste and I've had the massive good fortune to be served some excellent food over the years by people who seemed to know what they're doing, so I'm not about to complain.

We came here to eat on Saturday evening. Definitely try the chef specials and recommendations. Lots of flavour and good sized portions. Good service and will be back.

We ate here for the first time tonight having taken the short drive to Cuckfield from Burgess Hill. We’ve tried most of the Indian restaurants local to us & this beats them all! Decor wise clean tidy and as modern as any other. A nice touch that all the crockery is branded with their logo and name (a small thing but I liked it!) I had the chicken tikka dansak which was very nice,just the right level of spice and lots of thick sweet and sour tasty sauce. My partner had the sizzling tandoori mixed grill, we share a special fried rice, Peshwari Naan, saag aloo and onion bhajis.. we can honestly say every dish was lovely, plentiful and tasty. Also very glad of the hot plate and warm dishes/plates. It was very reasonably priced and we will definitely taking for short ride out again when we fancy a curry!

The food in here is really good - very tasty and well cooked. The service is also excellent - welcoming, friendly and attentive without being in your face. The only thing stopping me giving it a 5* is the decor - although the food itself is the best I've had of it's kind in the area (apart from the Saag Paneer, which could do with less cream!), I'd be put off coming here for a special occasion as the decor is very basic and could really do with updating - it doesn't feel very upmarket.

Not good. Mound on tomatoes, the chicken tikka was bland, daal tasted burnt and the main was salty. Will not be going back. Owner did not care

With little time before going out on a Friday evening we thought we would order a takeaway. Having visited the restaurant on many occasions and had great experiences I thought Spice Village would be a safe bet, it turned out to be a nightmare. My wife is allergic to tomatoes, so I wanted to make sure they had a curry without tomatoes. Having also had a few Goan curries recently from elsewhere that were coconut milk based with no tomato, I asked if their Goan curry had tomato in it? I was told no so ordered a takeaway we would collect. My son picked up the curry and brought it home, the first issue was we had ordered popadoms with mango chutney, they had forgot the chutney making the popadoms useless and dry. I called up to complain and was told I could have a few fee ones next time, in my opinion not a great response but I accepted it. Then as we opened the curries, the Goan curry was clearly tomato based. I phoned up again and asked why he had said the Goan curry had no tomatoes in it, his reply was priceless, there are no tomatoes in it, only tomato paste! I explained and argued with the guy as he tried to argue its impossible to make a curry without tomato paste. I had to demand a full refund given the poor experience, they reluctantly agreed and told me to bring my card down to the restaurant and they would refund. As we were going out, this happened the day after, my son took the card in and he called me asking for the receipt, I explained they hadn’t told me to bring it so I hadn’t kept it. Given the poor experience we had had, they were quite rude and unhelpful saying they didn’t know the amount and which machine they used etc, basically they hadn’t made a note of my pending refund. After a good 20-30 minutes at the restaurant waiting for them to sort it out I had a refund, never again will I order a takeaway from them, which is a shame as I try to support local businesses. Mistakes happen, but it’s how they are dealt with, which will determine whether you use them again, very poor.

This was the first time we had ordered from the spice village, and was not disappointed. They said 30 minutes and the food was ready just before that. It was very tasty and really enjoyed i. I would defiantly order again and would recommend this restaurant to others.

The staff are so friendly and helpfull. The food really is so tasteful, Why not try the Talbot for pre dinner drinks. We have had a number of lovely evenings here - and will again.

Set back off the main road we were drawn to Spice Village by the very reasonable sounding 'Sunday Service' offer and were not disappointed. I had the chicken Badami and saag paneer - both delicious. Can highly recommend a visit.

1st class June 2017 difficult to find good Indian food locally

We've had two takeways from this restaurant so far, choosing different meals each time. On each occasion the food was very good with generous portions.

Hemos usado y bajar en los últimos 10 años. Sigue cambiando de manos. Amigos dijo que debía probar de nuevo. Bien, el personal es amable y el restaurante está limpio y ordenado. Por desgracia, la comida es en el mejor de los regulares, no sabor, el pollo tikka era aguado, más raro.

He estado en todas las casas de curry en y alrededor de Haywards Heath, numerosas veces y el pueblo de las Especias tiene la mejor comida y servicio. En la parte superior de esta, El pueblo da real Spice buena relación calidad-precio. No lo puedo recomendar. Mi hija vegetariano también dice que, para un vegetariano, las opciones aquí son los mejores ella es visto y le encanta la comida.

I was visiting friends in Cuckfield and they took me for an Indian. The food was tasty, authentic and came quickly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Its a small restaurant and also offer take away services.

Arrived early evening, no reservation, were mad welcome and were really pleasantly surprised by a nice understated decor in direct contrast to the red and purple flashing sign outside The waiter who took care of us was attentive and very efficient from start to finish Extensive menu with some quite original specials, try the Handy (not a German phone), aromatic and not too spicy, exceptional naans light and fluffy Price very acceptable as was the whole experience

Went to order food the other day, haven't been there before and didn't know what to expect. Got our food and went home only to see that they got our food order wrong and I can't understand how they gave us the wrong order as it wasn't busy. So after seeing they got our order wrong I phoned them up to see what they can sort out for us. Well I couldn't of been more disgusted.. I got told to send a taxi out to them so they can replace what was missing and bring it to us!!! What person in there right mind would say something like that when it was their mistake. Sorry but we won't be returning again, they certainly don't know how to deal with these sort of situations and as we paid the amount we did, why should we pay more just to get our food we paid for!! Strongly avoid.

Have both eaten in and taken away here, and always good, consistent quality, and fast efficient service. If only they delivered as well :-)

Firstly the food was perfect. The Chicken was tender when I had the Dhansak and the Mushroom rice being my favourite type of rice, the chefs there made it to perfection. The Boss is lovely and the Waiters were even better. In Particular, a young man named 'Rashed' was a pleasure to be served by. He is an absolute delight and he sure knows how to serve the customers well. Everything about Spice Village is Perfect

Having moved into the village around 3 weeks ago we decided to go for a Friday night curry. The place was very busy and therefore quite lively although the restaurant only has about 30 covers tops so it wouldn't take much to fill up. The food was very good but the service was a little slow although on top of a full restaurant they were also running hot with takeaways so understandable. Portion sizes are large so we didn't need to order much from looking around before hand. Food was reasonable value for money however the wine list was a little on the toppy side for an Indian restaurant. Will definitely give it another try and also the takeaway service and thy to get the feedback up to a 'Very Good'.

We had a Friday night takeaway and we're very impressed. The service was quick and staff were efficient and friendly but the best thing was the standard of food. We've had many Indian takeaways and this would be up there with the best. A great selection and would derail flavours. We will become regulars. The restaurant was small and empty when we picked the food up.Sadly they don't do deliveries.

I went in here for a takeaway on Saturday evening. The Restaurant was 3/4 full and there were 4 people waiting for takeaways and one person had just left as I arrived. One of the staff members then ran down the road after the guy who just left because they gave him somebody else's order. Things clearly weren't going well and I waited around for about 5 minutes before I was asked "can I help you sir?". I asked for the takeaway menu which was brought right away. I was then ignored and bypassed for a further 15 minutes or so, during which time staff were taking telephone orders on two separate phones and leaving me standing there like the invisible man with a menu in his hand. I finally gave up and left and went to another Indian for my food. As a local Taxi driver, I am often asked for my opinion on places to eat out. Sadly the Spice Village will fall into the 'don't go there, category.

Rubbish food and service. Sunday or otherwise - Sunday service.... Pahhhh don't make me laugh. Not allowed to collect a Sunday deal...and it doesn't state in your pics that it's for eat in only - we only live close bye.... Never again.... Waste of money.
