What a wonderful little restaurant We’re very lucky to have it here in Hassocks

I went for a meal here with a friend and the food wasn't great. The restaurant was empty and the waiters kept coming to our table asking if we needed a top up or anything else. I know they were probably just trying to look after us, but I just wanted to catch up with my friend.

I don’t get takeout Indian food very often, but when I do, I’m so lucky to have Sunam Tandoori right in the heart of my village on the high street! It’s a proper old-school local “curry house,” and the food is always so fresh and full of flavor, with generous portions and great prices. Plus, the guys who welcome you are always super friendly, making it feel even more special!

We had a takeaway meal and it was really delicious! The chicken and prawn main dishes were very generous, all food was hot, onion bajis crispy, Peshawari nan bread sweet and puffy, tarka dahl and spinach based side dishes) plentiful and leftovers have just been eaten..breakfast😄! A real treat, thankyou to the friendly, hardworking staff : Hassocks is lucky to have you here. X🌺

Great Indian food, friendly staff and good wine for a reasonable price. Would defenitely go again of I were to be in the neighbourhood.

We had a really nice meal the staff were very friendly, it was a very busy Saturday night so definitely book a table in advance as it seems to be a very popular restaurant. But it's definitely worth a visit and then I am sure like us you will return.

It’s bang average. Nothing more nothing less. The curry itself is just ok. There is no depth of flavour to any of the curries just very standard. If you’re desperate for a curry in the air it’ll just do.

As usual, the quality versus price of this curry house was very good. Service was fast and efficient. The hot food, keema naan, brimming to the edge with stuffing plain naan freshly cooked. Meat madras spot on, bombay potatoes very good portion. The chicken korma was a little to sweet for me but wife loved it all in all will return

I’ve always really enjoyed the Sunam and I’m happy to see that, after not coming for a little while, the food and service are still top notch and the prices are still so reasonable. When we arrived the waiters came to open the door for us, sat us down and were incredibly attentive to us the whole evening. The service, like the decor, is decidedly old fashioned but certainly very appreciated. We ordered a couple of large Cobra’s while we perused the menu and then ordered a couple of curries and some sides, which arrived quite quickly. The vegetable dopiaza and garlic naan were lovely. The vegetables tasted fresh and the sauce was irresistible, while the naan was crispy and fluffy. The sides were great too: the sag paneer was creamy and had that cheese pull, the mushroom bhaji was perfectly spiced and fragrant and the onion bhajis were out of this world- they packed more flavour than any I’ve had elsewhere. Considering the size of the meal we shared along with the beer I was surprised when we only ended up spending £20 each, maybe I’m just too used to London prices.

Second time at this Indian. While visiting my friend in Hassocks. I had the best Peshwari naan bread I’ve ever had. The food was very tasty, wine good, service great. Looking forward to coming back again.

It was the first time visiting Sunam since moving to Hassocks. This is an authentic Indian Restaurant with a traditional atmosphere and the food was good. The service was good also. This is not a modernised restaurant but that was the authentic feel and I hate when an Indian restaurant modernise and becomes clinical. Highly recommended as a traditional Indian night out.

Sunam staff are friendly and swift to take the phone order. We ordered a meal for 3, and our foods were all beautifully hot, freshly cooked and delicious. The dishes included chicken tikka..very well cooked, moist and hot. Prawn dansak was excellent, definitely recommend this and the peshwari nan was a cushiony coconut delight! Onion bhajis crisp, fresh, and spinach potato curry, and tarka dal..excellent and generous portions. Feeling very lucky to have such a good restaurant in Hassocks.

We regularly visit Sunam in Hassocks - my wife and I, and our kids when they're in town. It's well run, the staff are fantastic and attentive, and the food is delicious. I think some old reviews on this site paint a very different picture - maybe it wasn't great a few years back, but for the past two/three years it has been consistently great. Always super-friendly and we've never waited long for food or drinks.

The worse food, I specifically told the guy to make the food very spicy and gues what!!! It was sweet curry!!!! Eating sweet chicken. Absolutely disgusting, never stepping foot in that place again

Food - absolutely not satisfied, terrible food. Bought from there on my birthday and the food completely ruined it. I think they should remove the name "indian" From the restaurant. They serve sweet currys, if I wanted something sweet I would have gone to a patisserie! Very bad food, avoid at all costs.

I sadly found out today of the passing of the owner of Sunam Restaurant in Hassocks. He was a good man with a big heart, well traveled and knowledgeable. One would have thought the village would have put a picture of him up and some flowers for his loyal service to the locals for many years, the guy hardly had a day off. I’ve have been having food from here since I was very young, the staff are so lovely and helpful and they create absolutely amazing food too. Best curry in sussex, simply can’t beat it

Below average curry, watery and stingy on the king prawns. When the waiter asked if I wanted poppadoms I said no thanks but in tongue' n cheek said "but if you want to throw a couple in..." I got the response we don't give free poppadoms, its only restaurants in Burgess Hill that do that. Obviously I was a bit (!) For an odd comment. C'mon guys, it's something that costs pennies and can keep custom, don't be as stingy as your portion sizes! As suggested, I will stick to Burgess Hill for my free poppadoms! Suffice to say, I won't be going back!

Really disappointed with our food , this place is very hit and miss sometimes it's okay sometimes it's near inedible . Needed a tonne of salt added , even the poppadoms and onion salad were absolutely tasteless . The dishes were swimming in water with grease on top of it it had almost split. Lovely guys here but absolutely revolting food will not be returning always give benefit of doubt as local but waste of money .

Ordered a chicken Madras, extremely bland, watery sauce. This place has no consistency whatsoever, by far the worst curry I've ever had. They have no lost a loyal customer

You don’t get many like this outside of London. This place is lovely very very relaxing. Staff are lovely too. Food is wonderful full of flavour. Chefs are very good at what they do!!!! 😋

Ive eaten at a lot of indian/asian restaurants. However this one was a very peaceful and relaxing/calm atmosphere. Food was better than most fancy indian places. Flavour was just correct. Chefs must be some of the best.

Great family takeaway service. The sauces were very tasty and chicken flavoursome and very tender. The onion bhajis were lovely and crispy. Being very picky, the nans could have been cooked a little longer, they usually have nice charred bits. I thoughly recommend as great quality and on time

We have loved sunamever since moving to Hassocks 4 years ago. They are so welcoming and always happy to see you. Food is really delicious and we look forward to being able to sit back in the restaurant once Covid restrictions are lifted.

Great friendly welcome, and delicious food. Very well priced too. We try to visit at least once or twice a month. I can recommend the garlic chilli chicken.

Love this curry house in Hassocks, when we are home from Thailand we try to at least pay one visit, of it were up to me I'd eat here every day. Can't wait to get back. Food is always excellent and the staff are very friendly too

We normally get take away from here but decided to eat in this time. Was not disappointed. Food great as always and very reasonably priced. Lovely staff too.

Usually don't have a problem here, the foods usually good and not overpriced. How ever was so shocked with the service I received when I last visited, I will not be returning again and neither will my family (who in summer had a dead fly in their poppadoms). I went to meet a friend from Hassocks station, who missed the train so ended up waiting for 25 minutes for her to get here. We then walked down the restaurant to meet our friends, we ordered drinks (gin and tonics) and was greeted with 'you've been in the pub then as you walked past at 5.30'! Furthermore, my friend had her drink knocked over by the waiter by accident so he said he would get her a new one, which never came because when we asked we were basically told we didn't need any more too drink so he didn't give it to us!!!! There was 5 us from the ages of 22-25, one a pilot, 1 a social worker and 3 with a degree in education. We are not rowdy youths, we came in for my leaving dinner, having had 1 gin and tonic, apparently no more was allowed.... Will not be recommending from now on. Think this nosey and presumptious behaviour is not great customer service

I have been using Shunam for over 20yrs and have only once had a problem with my order - the fact they gave me the wrong dish! Some of the reviews do not reflect my experience of this great little Indian Restaurant & Takeaway.

Lovely food . First curry with my daughter, we were very happy . Great staff and great food . Very busy on a Friday evening as it also quite a compact restaurant . Not a cramped situation though . Does a roaring trade in takeaway too. No draught beers just bottled.

Not just for the locals this place is worth visiting even if you live a long way away-as we do. A good,mainly north Indian selection of dishes. Nice crispy papadoms. Smiling staff. It's always on our list when we are in the area.

Long-standing favourite for both eat-in and takeaway and always a very good welcome. No surprises on the menu but Jal Frezi with extra chill is is guaranteed to sort out a heavy cold.
