Spice House in Gloucester

Wow!!!! Absolutely gorgeous takeaway tonight. We were warned when we ordered of the wait time. Sadly, it was even longer BUT... We rang to check all was well. It then arrived five minutes later with a very apologetic driver who explained how busy they were. Then, whilst we were eating, had a follow-up call to check it had arrived - again, very apologetic, admitting they were busy but that this was below their own standards. Makes such a difference... And the food was stunning. Cannot fault at all. For no particular reason, we've not had a takeaway for a while but we will so definitely be back...soon!!!!

Ordered a set menu for 1 for takeaway. I didn't have to wait long for the food and all tasted fresh. Could easily of fed two people! Real value for money. Would return.

Nice Indian, decent prices, good size portions. The only thing that is a bit weird is the drinks come from the bar next door so ordered through a different person so at times drinks service isn’t as quick even though loads of the staff from the curry house are walking around. You also have to settle two different bills at the end - one for food and one for drink.

I would firstly like to apologise to the whole team as I wrote review for them but mistakenly did it for Polaash restaurant, I come from London to train in Gloucester, the first time was in June 2024 and my experience was amazing, I made a promise when am on Gloucester for training I will visit again which I did tonight and the warmth and hospitality was second to none, excellent Bangladeshi cuisine. Thank you spice house for making me feel welcome. 2 more nights of delicious Bangladeshi food 😋.

Booked a table for two on the Sunday evening before Bank Holiday Monday. Arrived at 6.55 and got quickly seated. Restaurant was not overly busy with diners but the phone was constantly ringing for takeaways. Drinks were ordered quickly as they are supplied from the social club next door who have their own waiter. By 7.15 nobody had come to take our food order so we had to summon a waiter over to do so. The restaurant was starting to fill up and the takeaway phone was still ringing. By 7.40 no food had arrived at our table but 2 families who came in after us had both got their starters and numerous takeaways were going out of the door. The restaurant was now full. My wife got the attention of one of the waiters and made a very strong complaint regarding the lack of service (and food) coming our way and suggested that maybe we should order a takeaway and some cutlery in order that we might get served more quickly. The waiter was very apologetic and rather embarrassed as he seemed to be aware of the time we had been sat with no food. Our starters came very quickly after making the complaint and very soon after our main courses appeared. On the plus side the food was very good and well spiced, the restaurant is very nicely appointed and once we got their attention the staff were very pleasant.

I phoned a couple of weeks before to book a table, as it was shut it redirected to a mobile number, the person was obviously out and about, he took my details, but when we arrived they hadn't hot our booking. We had to wait in the bar for about 15 minutes, whilst they got a table sorted. First time here, not really a curry person, but I had a korma, which was fine. Service was good, and we all had a nice meal and evening in the end.

I called the spice house tonight without having seen a menu. I asked questions and was given great help and advice . I placed an order which came within the time limit and was delivered by a very polite and pleasant driver . The food was absolutely gorgeous and very large portions . All round excellent value and we will definitely use them in future .

Fantastic meal with my son and friend very reasonable prices also, have been before 2 years ago as not from here I would recommend it to anyone.

Collected a takeaway this evening, service was fast and the tikka massala meals were delicious ! We will definitely be back for more and will consider eating in next time.

Always a good friendly service here. I have to say I dropped a star due to the food not being served hot enough...as in temperature...personal preference.

Popped in for the first time Saturday night, I had a tandoori mixed grill, didn't really enjoy as this was covered in a paste, the meat itself was cooked lovely, overall was a nice meal and will be back There is a social club adjacent which is where the drinks come from, you can go get your own drink at the bar or someone will take your order, this means will get two bills at the end of your meal one for drinks & one for food

This is my local Indian and it is always a delight. This was a takeaway visit this time. Food was prepared quickly, order was correct and most importantly it was all delicious.

I have visited 4 times this year already 😊 absolutely love the food, atmosphere and such friendly welcoming staff. This is our go to restaurant for birthdays and get togethers with friends. ❤️

Curry, as per usual is very nice and flavoursome. And I do like that have a large selection of currys to choose from. Despite it being quiet, I felt the service was rushed and they were eager for us to finish and leave. Disappointed that they didn't have any desserts. Otherwise, would definitely reccomend both novices and curry connoisseurs alike.

Just had curry delivered from here for the first time. It was delicious. Tasted fresh with generous portions. Found a new favourite in tbe area for sure!

Go here almost every week, I use as a collection / take away. Food has always been good and they are customer friendly.

Does the job very nicely. I always thought this was only a take-away, but it's quite Tardis-like, and there's a whole nice restaurant hiding in here. All of your classic Indian favourites are here, with decent spice levels (and some super-spicy options for those who like a challenge)! Sometimes, nothing beats a proper curry mission, and this place will certainly leave you satisfied.

The food was good although everything tasted a little sweet. The service was also good albeit the lady from the bar was a bit abrupt. The restaurant itself looks very nice and clean. Just no atmosphere as we were the only people in the restaurant.

Called in for a takeaway whilst on a minibreak. Very busy so a little wait for our food, approx 30mins but staff all charming and helpful.

Had a takeaway last night, we ate the meal but have had better. The food contained a lot of onions and was very greasy. The chicken tikka was dry and not fresh. The tarka dhal was very salty and also greasy. Rice was good and so were the aloo goby and sag paneer. Could do with upping their game really as there is a lot of competition near by.

Average Indian meal, nothing outstanding. Passanda not like a usual Passanda, and an overly sweet Korma sauce. We visited as staying in the area for a couple of days and w elbow Indians tend to stay open late most days of the week.

Good food and very pleasant surroundings

Food was not up to standard. The Goan Chicken was horrible. The chcken was overcooked and hard. The fish curry was too watery. The worst was the dessert. We had Kulfi and it was grainy and tasted very bad. When we informed the waiter, he just said he doesn’t know and it is from a company! That is not good customer service, even though we were not looking for a refund! Will not recommend this restaurant.

Have previously rated this restaurant and takeaway 5 out of 5, but not sure what happened over the last 5 months. Totally gone down hill which is such a shame. They have got our delivery wrong 3 times, I mean totally the wrong main curry dish arrived. Delivery is unreliable and it is so disappointing. We used this restaurant regularly for the last 5 years but they have forced our hand and we will be looking elsewhere for our weekly treat now.

Excellent value for money. Very nice food and extremely reasonable prices.

As we live locally I have been a customer many times but only for takeaway before. Have always found the food to be of good quality. Now my kids are both old enough to enjoy Indian food we brought them here and it did not disappoint. All of us enjoyed our meals and the friendly service - we will be back again soon I'm sure!

Visited tonight with my husband, ordered a chicken sagwala and lamb Rogan Josh both with egg fried rice, very disappointed, lack of flavour, could have been a microwave meal, the onion and spices probably not cooked out enough, Rogan Josh full of tomato and not much else. Even the garlic naan lacked flavour. Very disappointed 😞

Great food, music was traditional, nice and quiet so gave a good atmosphere without invading so no shouting required. Very well lit which is great I do like to see what I am eating. Small place so big parties will be intrusive but not too bad. Attached to Wotton Hall club as well which allows non members and actually serve the customers in the curry house so remember that you will get separate bills for food and drink. Service was also good very quick without feeling rushed.

I’m no curry expert, but the food here is always exceptional, the staff are also amazing.

A popular Indian restaurant attached to Wotton Hall Club. Popular with club members and public. It was crowded when we went around 9.30pm and service understandably a little slow, but food was good.

Go here most weeks for a Friday Takeaway and often eat in. Can't fault the food or the service. It's always busy, which must be a good sign but this never impacts the high quality of service we receive. Definitely the best Indian we have in Gloucester. Darren

They like to add spice heat where there shouldn't be any, but food was plentiful and hot. Clean and airy surroundings and genius being next to the club.

Tasty Indian restaurant that does eat in and takeaway spicy food. I can recommend the Tandoori Chicken Biriyani (i order it often and it is consistently good - plenty of well cooked spicy chicken). Atmosphere is quite good with modern colourful surroundings. Easy to find off the main Bar wood Road, next to the Wooton Hall club.

The first time I came here it was a few years ago and I was pregnant. I thought my bad experience was because of the pregnancy but no. I went yesterday and it wasn’t very good. The Pakora was bland and greasy. The mains wasn’t any better! Next time I want a curry I will drive a couple more minutes to London road.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Gloucester. Been here for sit down and take a way, food and is always been top notch. Loads of parking available. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely worth a visit!

Parking was not a problem, and the meal I would rate as excellent. The waiters were very attentive. It was a pleasurable experience all round.

Nice and cool during the heatwave with good air conditioning which was a relief as it was still over 30 degrees outside! Great friendly service, food was delicious, drinks are great value too as they're served from Wotton Hall social club bar thank you!

Absolutely LOVE the Spice house. The staff are always lovely and friendly. All the dishes on the menu are amazing and great value for money! We normally order a takeaway but decided to sit in today. Was a great visit and will definitely continue ordering from here as well as sitting in every now and then!

Visited this week as In the area for business. Living in Leeds decent Indian restaurants aren’t hard to come by and this place fell short of the high expectations I had. It just didn’t have any WOW, very much standard Indian fayre and presented in the same mundane way. Service was friendly enough but my mixed kebab starter & chicken madras main were just bang average with no depth to them. Also £2.50 per chapatti seems pretty extortionate to me but maybe that’s the going rate for the area.

I'll start with the good. This restaurant had been recommended to me - but with reservations. We booked a table and were met in a friendly but off-hand way. The decor is modern and comfortable. The restaurant was busy and very noisy. Usually I don't like that but the atmosphere was lively and happy and I liked that very much. The cloth napkins were a lovely touch. Now the bad! Service was fast to the point of frantic. It took ages for our drinks order to be taken and it was finally - after four prompts - fulfilled inaccurately. Instead of a bottle of wine, we were delivered a single glass of wine. It took a very long time to have this mistake rectified. My biriyani was good. My companions' chicken bhuna was awful - tasteless, lacking in any fragrance and the chicken was tough. Even so, the staff were friendly and so was the ambience. I was teetering on the edge of giving three stars. Then the bill arrived. The mistaken extra glass of wine had been charged for, suggesting no contrition for the mistake whatever. So... two stars. Oddly, I would like to give the place another go next week. I just have a sneaking (and probably irrational) suspicion that we caught the place on an off night. I'll let you know how we get on!

Always a pleasure to eat here. The staff are very polite, food delicious and well priced. The staff are attentive without being obtrusive. This place also has a delivery service. Lots of meat in the food which is nice and tender. Good range of food to choose from. The menus are on the Internet. Eating in, the place is very clean, with a subtle relaxing colour scheme and music.

Went out Thursday to Spice House with 15 of my work buddies and they were superb all round 👏 with great tasty fresh food abd quality service. Nothing was too much trouble. It was a credit to the team who looked after us from the moment we arrived 🙌

The Spice House for me is brilliant. Really good service and top quality food. Took a while for me to work out how the drinks come from another bar next door and is a separate but it all works. All the food I tried when staying nearby for two days was fantastic. My favourite was the Lamb Chop Bhuna. Amazing sauce and lovely lamb. The staff are so welcoming - I watched as one young lad turned up to pick up a takeaway with his Dad. The staff all made sure he left with a pocketful of chocolate. I can imagine the locals love this place. When I’m back in Gloucester - I’ll be eating here again like a shot 👍

This is such a good local restaurant. Amazing food fabulous service 😋 We arrived at 5pm on a Friday evening, it was empty when we arrived but soon started to fill up, even then the staff never dropped the ball. We would highly recommend.

Really good curry house. It doesn’t look much from outside but was actually really good. Menu was varied- usual staples but also some more unusual dishes. Service was good- attentive without being overbearing. Food itself was great. The Nan were really very good- thin, bubbly and crispy. Would definitely return.

Had delivery last night, first time used and have to say the best Indian we have had, we definitely recommend.
