Saeed Balti House in Gloucester

I have only recently become aware of the Saeed Balti takeaway, tucked away on a corner of Seymour Road, even though I've lived in Gloucester for over 20 years. The food is good and the portions quite substantial. That's the good part. However, when I got home I found that yellow turmeric-coloured oil had escaped from the completely-full metal containers and coated the inside of the paper bag in which all were held. Fortunately a final exterior plastic bag had contained the liquid -- but it took about half a roll of kitchen towel to mop up the mess from the containers -- and the top surface of my kitchen table. And I had been quite careful when putting them in the car and taking them out! I've never had this problem with Chinese takeaways, which always seem to come in microwaveable translucent plastic boxes, so I would suggest those for the more liquid of the Saeed Balti's food! So: quality of food very good, but be very careful if you'd ordered something which completely fills its container.

Absolutely shocking customer service. After giving us raw chicken in our curry they then won’t replace the full meal only the curry and want to charge us for the other items that the raw chicken has been in contact with. Was a regular customer and definitely will not be going back again

Had a takeaway arrived on time and it was hot and very tasty will definitely use again and great value for money

4 pieces of chicken in a large tikka malsala disgusting and the naan bread arrived stone cold eventually said they would send a replacement meal out in 30 mins it then proceeded to take a hour they then requested that I returned the naan bread will not be reordering with them again and it’s a shame as I’ve been using this restaurant for takeaway for over 3 yrs will not be using again and will not be recommending !!! STAY AWAY

Placed order at 6.30pm told it would be an hour. Still not arrived at 8pm called restaurant told it would be with us 15 /20 minutes. Finally arrived at 8.50pm. We waited 2 hrs and 20 minutes for food. On opening food madras was like water where it was cold rest of food was also cold but the naan bread was burnt and unable to eat. Poor customer service and food not edible.

Excellent experience all round. The staff were very informative and recommended the sizzling platter which was both visually and audibly amazing and so tasty! We had the Bhajis too which were fresh and hot. We chose milder curry with the passanda and korma coming out fresh and hot! The keema and cheese naan was lovely. Overall the prices are set back about 10 years ago meaning value for money is high. We enjoyed every single mouthful. Thank you Saeed and the team!

We were here on a Monday evening. Delicious food and friendly service. My best dansak this year! No difficulty finding a place to park in nearby side street. Would visit again if in the area.

Terrible service waited over 2 hours for my food

Was done as a take out. Online order, nice and easy to do. Ready in 20 mins to collect. Turned up and staff were friendly, asked for order name and went to check on it. Said just packing it up and to take a seat, only took about 1 min and was ready. Everything ordered was there, and was for 3 adults. Got good sized portions, with all food being nice and warm. Each dish was very good quality and had great taste. Everyone was stuffed and really enjoyed the meal.

Took 2 hours for food too come and I then found black short hairs and too find my garlic and cheese naan has mouldy cheese in literally has green fungus growing in it disgusting

Cafe style Indian restaurant with 5 Star hygiene and free on-street parking. On a Saturday evening, it ticks the box. As we hadn't booked, we tried our luck on the Easter weekend, so after parking along the road and popping into the co-op for some refreshments (restaurant is BYO) we were seated in their small dining room which was empty apart from one other couple. The menu is extensive, containing all your traditional British Curryhouse staples. Pops and a good pickles tray - mango chutney, onion salad and yellow raita, Lamb tikka and mixed kebab for starters, Wife's onion bhaji was a little overdone on the outside but tasted great. The mains arrived piping hot in small stainless steel balti dishes with lids. My lamb Balti (vindaloo) was tasty and spicy hot although the pilau rice was stodgy. Wife was happy with her Bombay sweet chilli chicken accompanied by garlic and coriander nan. Waiter was pleasant and service was good, they do need a stronger closer on the door as some people using it don't close it which meant an awful draft where we were sitting. When the bill came, I was pleasantly surprised at the cost and we will certainly be back.

Came here for my works Christmas meal in December 2023, but I was not disappointed. The food was amazing, the staff were great, recently had a takeaway, and the food was delicious. Will definitely be ordering from here from now on. Thanks so much 🙂

We enjoyed our quiet evening out with a friend. Not been to this restaurant before but the staff made us welcome, it's small size makes it cosy and the food and service was great. By the way it's Bring Your Own drink and the only parking is on the surrounding streets but we'll go again

Owned by its namesake now, (Saeed) Balti House has been the chosen eat out for myself and my partner twice this month. The food is great, and it's secluded, private, and the lads are great and quick with your orders.

I do eat from here regularly, so might be bias 🤷‍♂️ but we had a fantastic evening here this weekend! Bit of a large party, and we all said the same thing... food ✔️ staff ✔️ atmosphere ✔️ price ✔️✔️ bit of a cliche, but the staff really did look after us. As it's bring your own drink ✔️ they were even nice enough to collect empties as we got through them... 😆 the takeaways I have from here are always good, but eating in, was even better! Thanks to all the staff for our great evening 😀👍

Atrocious service, our first and last custom with this restaurant. The reviews are attempting but the experience is quite another thing; my family ordered online with a scheduled delivery time and we allowed plenty of leeway, but after waiting an hour after the food was due, I rang the restaurant and got no answer - the phone went straight to an answering machine. The food was finally delivered 2 hours 19 minutes late with no apology! Half of the food was not what we ordered!

I was given a tip from one of my friends to try this curry house out, I've been quite disappointed lately in most of the ones Gloucester lately. I tried to book a table, but unfortunately it was full for that particular evening, nevertheless I decided to try a takeaway. I ordered the set menu for 2 people and the cost was £25.25 including delivery. It came within the hour as promised and was piping hot and delivered with a friendly smile. The food was fantastic, I would say there was enough for 3 people easily and it was so tasty. I will be booking again and I can see now why its so popular. A little gem of a curry house.

We stumbled across the restaurant whilst staying close by . From the outside , it looks like a takeaway , but we were pleasantly surprised as we were shown to our table . The waiter was friendly , attentive & explained that the majority of their business was from collections , takeaways , deliveries . The restaurant is a sideline . We were treated efficiently , even though the phone was constantly ringing . The portion sizes were more than adequate , fresh & very reasonably priced , in fact we couldn't believe how cheap the bill was . An added bonus was being allowed to bring our own wine , which really helps to keep the price of the meal down . We highly recommend this unassuming little gem . Look it up on your travels .

Absolutely delicious food, and impeccable service. The atmosphere is cosy and clean as well. Highly recommend! (The chicken tikka paneer and mushroom rice are particularly delicious.)

We heard about this place on the neighbours app, so thought we’d try it out. We are vegetarian, and they can make any of their dishes veggie. Super impressed by the service, food, and value for money. Don’t think we’ll change back to our previous Indian now!

Decided to book last minute meal online for 7pm on Friday evening, without too much trouble On arrival at Saeed, the exterior and interior of the restaurant was bright, clean, tidy and inviting. The restaurant was not busy, however from the constant ringing of the telephone, one would get the impression that Saeed is very popular for takeaway service. We were served quickly and not long after our order was placed, our food soon started to appear. We had usual popadoms with dips and onion bahji's to start, which was a good sized portion and very tasty. My hubby had Pathia and I had Lamb saag balti, no rice but shared keema nan and peshwarhi nan. The food was well presented, tasty and very good portion size. Was so pleased that we had not had rice as the dish along with nan was more that enough of a portion and very satisfying. Remember to take your own drinks with you and they will provided the glasses and service with a smile. We would highly recommend this restaurant and will certainly be revisiting another time with family and friends

Love this place, food is first class, it's my local go to for take away Indian food and eat in.

Slightly hit and miss lately and delivery times can be in excess of an hour and half still worth the wait if you can get thru on the phone and not diverted to an answer message

Curry was really watery and no flavour very disappointing last two orders were really tasty..

Absolutely appalling customer service. Booked a table for 9 for Friday evening. Contacted them in the week to move table to Saturday evening to which they replied and said this was fine. Received rude message on Friday asking why we didn’t turn up. Tried to call but got no answer. We went as booked on Saturday to be left waiting ages, no one greeted us, too busy answering phones. Eventually a man spoke to us and was very rude and refused to serve us, despite the restaurant being half empty. Quite glad they did refuse our booking as restaurant looked filthy and they seemed more concerned with answering the phone than actually dealing with the customers present at the time. Avoid

Didn't enjoy as much as previous visits very greesy and the mixed kebab was so hot in spice u couldn't taste the difference in the meat and the chicken on the leg tasted sour.

Visited here for the first time in June and have returned twice after, food is amazing, staff are all helpful and welcoming. Definitely a regular for the foreseeable future!

This place is usually quite nice, last night we ordered x3 chicken passanda, x3 pilau rice x2 onion bhaji and peswari nan. The rice wasn't cooked long enough. We had to warm the curry in the microwave as it was barely warm!

The nan bread was light and fluffy, everything was very tasty and plentiful, we could not eat it all so they kindly packed up the rest for us to take home. Highly recommend 5*

Always use them for takeaway and normally always good, but tonight waited nearly 2 hours for delivery, had to ring 3 times and every time told we are busy, will be another 15 minutes. Very disappointed

I live very local to this restaurant but have not been in here for many years. Stopped going in there as the food was always dyed garish colours and at the time I spoke with them about this saying it was outdated and people wanted food free from colouring. Most curry places used to be like this but have moved on. Needed a quick meal tonight and thought what the heck, let’s give them another go and ordered a takeaway which I walked to collect 15 mins later. Very nice staff always, people in the restaurant eating and drinking (bring your own booze) and people picking up orders so obviously popular and reasonably priced. However upon unveiling my food, surprise surprise a bright red jalfrezi and very greasy. Nan was good though. Sorry but there are many better restaurants about so I shall not be rushing back.

Discovered this slightly out of town and grateful to have done so. Authentic well spiced curries with lovely side dishes and homemade naan breads to die for! Call them and they give you a 15/20 minute ready time every time. If you love a spicy curry then look no further

Only had a lamb jalfrezi takeaway so cant judge as a whole really. Wasny as spicy as the other takeaways ive had and wasnt the largest portion but thr taste was superb

Food tasted amazing. We put an order in for 10/11 people for local pick up. The food was piping hot and we didn't have to wait long when picking up. The staff were polite and welcoming. Would highly recommend, you can also sit in to eat.

We love this place, it's really small inside but packed at the weekends. We use it mostly for take away and the flavours are always incredible. Great choice on the menu, great price and great portions.

We have since converted to this restaurant after a bad experience at our regular Indian. I definitely wont be going back to the other one, this place is definitely under rated! We have eaten in and ordered takeaways and they are always fantastic. Great price and a discount if you collect.

We love our curries from Saeed and it’s our regular take away restaurant. You can eat in too and bring your own alcohol. Always friendly, always good food. Bit basic sitting inside and atmosphere could be nicer, but food is fantastic.

I love the food and the staff in here and they always walk it down to me and still give me the collection discount. Very traditional Indian takeaway food but I have not had a bad meal from here in the years I have been going!

Been coming here for 5 months been to nearly every takeaway on glos and this place has never let us down! So cheap and yet so tasty! Love this place

Myself and 2 others shared 2 dishes from this establishment (chicken passanda & chicken rogan josh). Within 2 hours of finishing one of us violently vomitted it all up. During the night the remaining 2 (my wife and I) woke with acute stomach pains, both rushing to the toilet with extreme diarrhoea. By mid afternoon my wife was still having diarrhoea whilst I had now started to violently vomit whilst having diarrhoea - not a nice experience. Whilst my wife was slowly recovering I was deteriorating, unable to hold down sips of water or anything. I managed to get an out of hours appointment at Gloucester Royal who suspected salmonella from food poisoning. After forcing liquids into me via a drip, 3 days later and time off work I'm now more or less recovered. Reported to Environmental food agency who are investigating.

Always delicious. Its the only curry house I will allow our household to buy from as everyone else let's your down on standard at some point. These guys always cook brilliant food.

Had a takeaway. The food was cold and the bag was dripping with oil. Everything was just too oily. Lamb was very hard and barely edible. For me it was pretty much a waste of money.

Top Indian restaurant friendly service no matter how big or small you order

I used to be a very regular customer but no longer live nearby. Recently, some friends and I ordered a delivery. We had a range of dishes. Dansak, Massala, Bhuna, Tikka and Begum Behar. We had bhajis, rice and breads as well as poppadoms and the usual sauces and pickles. It was absolutely gorgeous. Friendly service, reasonable prices, great food and fast delivery. One of the best in Gloucester.
