Great place would highly recommend. Under new managment. Staff were quick, responsive and helpful. Food was quick and delicious. A member of our patry had a birthday and they were great with the surprise cake we brought. Would defiantly go again :)

Ordered a delivery for the first time tonight. Fast delivery and the food was delicious. This will be our new go to place for Indian food. Super, fresh tasting quality food that isn't swimming in oil which seems the norm these days. We would highly recommend and will be visiting for a sit down meal!

Visited as a group of five friends for the first time. The restaurant was spacious inside. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. We all enjoyed our meals. The food was fresh and perfectly cooked. We would definitely recommend and will visit again.

Didn't think much of the starters, but the main meals (we both got specials) were amazing, very delicious and good portion sizes, the naan also was very nice. Would go again and skip starters the next time.

Outstanding, generous portions of utterly delicious food; the restaurant is not licensed so it's a BYOB affair and the tables are a little on the smaller side, particularly where there's a lot going on foodwise. Lack of easy parking and location on Pontefract's busiest junction makes getting there a bit more challenging. Staff are friendly and accommodating. The food alone makes this restaurant well worth a visit if you're looking for keenly priced quality food.

Our first visit to this restaurant on recommendation from a few friends. For my husbands birthday. Given a very friendly welcome and staff couldn’t do enuff, we felt very welcome. Spacious set up of tables which is lovely not being crammed together. Sharing starter arrived on a sizzling hot plate and smelled wonderful. Mains, rice and garlic naan, oh and extra onion bhajis because they soooo good. Fantastic food, cooked from fresh and you can tell. Staff asked us if we would to take a break between courses which was a really nice touch and we didn’t feel rushed. Took our own alcohol which wasn’t a problem. Had bottles of table water brought to us on request. Staff chatted to us, mainly at end of meal which was very thoughtful whilst we enjoyed the food 😊 used the toilet facilities which were very clean and stocked. We absolutely loved it at Southgate Indian Restaurant, we will be back for both takeaway and the restaurant. Food is excellent, staff are excellent 👌 was a pleasure to visit 😊 see you again..,Highly recommend to try 👍

Really beautiful food here. Everything was prepared fresh & was served beautifully. Tasted amazing. The highlight were the staff to be honest. So friendly, warm, welcoming and kind. I think the restaurant itself has so much more potential in terms of the layout. It's in a great position overlooking the valley gardens. Lovely place. We will be back.

Be aware if you have any food intolerance, 1st visit the staff weren't very knowledgeable on gluten free dishes and recommended one which resulted in one of our party being very ill later,I enjoyed thier curries but I don't have any intolerances,again when we went recently my niece couldn't eat her chicken tikka masalla because of too much coconut and cream,NO WHERE on the menu dose it state the ingredients it just says ' special sauce' sorry but I don't trust what's going into their food anymore and it's a shame because I actually liked the place

On our 1st visit to this restaurant a family member asked what starters were gluten free,the young waiters didn't appear to know what gluten was so called for another staff member who assured us that several dishes were gf,I wasn't convinced but the family member chose to opt for one of these dishes,once home she was very ill all through night with symptoms of eating gluten,everyone else really enjoyed their food.a couple of weeks later I picked up a takeaway and spoke to the manager asking him if the younger staff were aware of different allergies,explaining what had happened,he apologised and said he would make sure all staff we aware,we visited again and had lovely food, however our last visit wasn't good,my niece ordered chicken tika masalla but hardly ate it when we asked she said it had too much coconut and cream in it which she'd never had in this dish before,I tasted it and it tasted just like my son's passander only difference was the colour,when we told the member of staff that he said that's how they make the dish but no reference to these ingredients were on the menu! When we said we wouldn't be paying for this dish because my niece hadn't ate it,the member of staff became quite rude,it's such a shame because we did enjoy several meals here but I don't trust what ingredients they are adding to the dishes anymore and this could be dangerous to anyone with allergies

My wife is allergic to dairy, no milk, no cream, etc. We made this very clear on ordering yesterday 18th February 2023. The man on the phone said OK no problem, and even suggested boiled rather than pilau rice. We went to pick it up and when we got home and opened the curry, it obviously had cream in it! We called them up and told them and the answer was, "but you wanted it mild" but we had told them about the allergy. They then said "We we will send you a new one." The second one arrived and also had cream in it!! Total loss of confidence, we didn't call back up to inform them a second time, we just put it in the bin and will never go again. So, if you are lactose intolerant, vegan, or vegetarian, you might want to think twice before going here.

So our 1st visit was throughly enjoyed by all, a nice calm atmosphere with helpful,friendly staff and most importantly extremely tasty great food!! First time visit for four of us and the food really didn't disappoint!! Perfect portions and full of flavour! The restaurant is not licensed so if you do want alcohol, you will have to bring your own. They do serve water and soft drinks though. The restaurant is influenced by Bangladesh cuisine and is very fresh! Will definitely return in the very near future!

Food was ok but it was service that didn’t tickle my fancy on this one. The establishment themselves advertised on social media as being open until 8pm Christmas Day. I have no family and live alone, hence me visiting this place on my own. I arrived at 18:50 and was told straight away I’d have to be quick, which I thought it was a little hasty. My main course came half an hour after I’d arrived and as my curry was put down on the table in front of me I was asked “can you try and be quick with it? We want to close soon”. Ended up not enjoying it solely for this reason. After the main I was brought the bill, which was £21.20. The Xmas Day special was ‘Five Courses For £19.95’. Five courses being popadoms, starter, main, sundries and dessert. I didn’t even receive a dessert, so I paid more than what was advertised for less. On the bill it said I paid extra for rice, which I thought would’ve been a sundry tbf but…. Rushed out of the door without a dessert or digestif. I came to try it out as some lads from football fancy coming to Pontefract for a curry, but looks like we will have to find another one now.

The food is excellent! Freshly made and really tasty, not greasy or oily like some indians ive visited. Staff were attentive and helped with our requests for a highchair and small plate for the child. Alcohol isnt served but i think you can bring your own abd they had a good range of soft drinks available.

This place deserves to be better recognised as the best Asian food for some distance and as it's BYOB it is also a relatively inexpensive place to eat out in these difficult times. The starters are tasty and the main courses are well-spiced and decent portions. The staff are also very attentive and helpful. I would urge all curry lovers around Pontefract to give it a tgry.

First time ordering takeaway first of all 3 payments went through when it said error they rang up straight away to tell me this and they would refund so bad system but good they sorted it, then the food arrived freezing cold the pakoras were Pooled in grease the curry was bland and they had forgot our breads safe to say never again!

This is definitely a place to visit for custom food as well as a beautiful take on indian classics and for those who wish to try something new. The staff could not do enough, with their friendly and down to earth personalities. This was my first visit and it will not be my last. They knew how to make a birthday meal truly special. Great new addition to the Pontefract area. Ordered the mix grill and was blown away with the balance of charcoal and softness of the meat. Would 100% Recommend. Wow, what a restaurant. My son chose to come for his birthday. After mentioning it, the staff made a lovely fuss of him, making him feel special and topped it off with a surprise cake and birthday card.
