Lovely cafe in a very central location with friendly staff, great coffee and an amazing selection of cakes. The toffee apple cake was to die for.

The food was good once it arrived- there was a very long wait, although it was a busy Saturday with a Christmas market going on so we expected it to be honest. My milkshake arrived but no tea. After a very long wait I had to get up and ask where it was but there was no apology for the delay. I know what others mean by the service- it wasn’t rude, but it wasn’t friendly. There were no smiles greeting us as we entered, and we had to ask to have our order taken, and when it was it was all rather perfunctory. We don’t visit Bishop’s Stortford that often so when we’re next in town we’ll probably try elsewhere because of that.

We were quickly shown to an available table. Then completely ignored. Staff were walking past all the time and even though we tried to get their attention they ignored us. After 20 minutes we saw someone coming towards us only to go to the table next to us, who came in after us to take their order. We then decided to leave. Such disappointing customer service

This is an amazing Cafe for anything you may want, drinks and food are all superb. Excellent and quick service for great tasting food and drinks.

The drinks and food were nice. Shame about the rude standoffish staff! After initially just ordering drinks, we decided to have something to eat. It was busy and after trying to attract a member of staff from our table unsuccessfully. My friend approached a waitress as she was going back inside to ask if we could order food, to which she was answered with an attitude of “we take orders in order of who has come in first”! We explained we just wanted to make aware we wanted food to be blanked. We waited another 10 minutes and asked a waitress who was just standing if we could order and she said I’ll get someone, which we thought was strange as she’s a waitress?! Then another waitress came out who’d originally served us and said “I thought you said just drinks’ in a brusque manner. We did continue to order food. But on paying it all seemed like we were just an inconvenience with rolls of eyes. Having frequented several times and this bring my first cafe choice out of the many in the area, we will not be returning! I’m not sure why they all seemed so standoffish and it’s certainly not the service I would expect to receive. Overall nice food, shame about the service from some staff!

Popped in for brunch on lockdown eve. The staff were very pleasant and everything done safely. However, it was very busy, which was fine as all socially distanced but it was so noisy. Particularly bad for us as table behind us was group of really loud ladies and I honestly couldn’t hear myself think. My companion enjoyed her eggs Benedict but neither of us were keen on my avocado, tomatoes and goats cheese. Other family members love it but I’m sorry, don’t think would go back

Been here many a times and feel I have not given the recognition this place deserves. The staff are ever so pleasant and accommodating. But their breakfast and cakes are absolutely delicious

I have been visiting SSP religiously since 2015 when I moved to the area and I ALWAYS have a wonderful experience. I’m pretty much here every week and I never tire of the amazing food! There is so much to choose from and although I’ve sampled the majority of the menu I have to say the pancakes are my all time favourite (the breakfast bagel is a very close second!) The portion sizes of the meals are amazing and so reasonably priced! Most of the time I’m too full to have cake afterwards - but never fear! Takeaway boxes are here! THE CAKE - my lord, the cake. Those days I can’t manage a whole meal, I’ll pop in for tea and cake. Their cakes are all homemade with care and they’re so delicious! Just like their food menu, there are so many different choices (changing every time you visit!) so there’s something for everyone. I would highly recommend their chocolate fudge cake - it is TO DIE FOR. So moist and fudgey and not too sickly!! The staff are always wonderful. Danielle, Glenn, Natasha, Sandra and the rest of the team are a delight - they’re so friendly and smiley and nothing is ever too much trouble! Even those times it’s really busy and there’s a queue they’ll do what they can to get you sat down as quickly as possible. The atmosphere is lovely when you are shown to your table. An intimate and homely place to eat and enjoy a coffee. I wouldn’t choose anywhere else to go for lunch!I love SSP and would highly recommend them to everyone! I have no doubts at all that I will be back very soon!

Sat outside for breakfast and food as well as ambience pretty good. Decent teas and very nice smashed avocado on soda bread with goats cheese tomatoes and rocket. One of the waitresses was a bit moody-I would describe her as a mature lady and bill was wrong as no discount given for the eat out to help out scheme although this was rectified. Everyone else in my party enjoyed their food. This is a regular haunt for my daughter and her friends.

I’ve been coming here for years and finally thought it was time to write down the recognition they deserve. The team here are just lovely and always so smiley and helpful. And the food... the food is just amazing! Eggs benedict with salmon (eggs royale) is my absolute favourite. I’ve tried it in a lot of other places and genuinely they never compare to South a Street Pantry. It’s always the best here, and I’ve never had any cause for complain, no matter what I’ve tried. Their cakes are also a special treat. Perfect spot to catch up with friends. Love the place!

I was very pleased to visit the South Street pantry on the Monday morning. The cakes are absolutely brilliant! The staff is friendly and the device is quick. I would definitely recommend this cosy place. I enjoyed sitting in their tea garden with my family having coffees and cakes. Looking forward to visit again.

Just wanted to take the time to write this review for South Street Pantry. I have visited the cafe pretty much since it has opened and continue to make it the only place I’ll go to and about time I wrote this review. They serve great coffee, excellent food at fair prices and friendly, professional and efficient service. I always feel like I am so well looked after every time I go, the staff are attentive and it’s really obvious they want you to have a lovely experience whilst you are there. The whole place is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated inside and out with attention to detail every where you look all the way through to how food and drinks are presented. Beautiful! The menu is varied and tasty, the burgers are just the best I’ve ever had and I have been lucky enough to eat in many top rated restaurants but these really are delicious. If you love cake, this is definitely the place to go too - homemade and absolutely divine with so many truly scrumptious choices. What makes it even better is they go out of their way to source ingredients locally as far as possible and support other local business which is the kind of dynamic thinking to keep our lovely high street thriving. The pandemic has affected so many and so pleased that South Street Pantry are still here. I have witnessed how thorough they have been with cleaning in between table sittings, social distancing and generally making sure everyone is safe. Despite the hour time limit I never feel rushed and they make sure you get food and drinks in good time. A great local business to support, highly recommend. Thank you South Street Pantry

As someone who has lived in stortford a long time, the Pantry is hands down the best place to eat. The food is always locally sourced, on time, perfectly cooked and there is a whole range to chose from whether you want a light bite or a big meal - the homemade American pancakes are my favourite! What really makes this place though is the staff, they have all gone above and beyond during the pandemic to make sure Stortford is getting their share of delicious homemade cakes on offer, and always go out of their way to make sure you have a wonderful experience. I have been going to the Pantry since it opened and I have never wanted to go anywhere else since, even for takeaway!! If you’ve been in stortford forever or just visiting, this place is a little gem that you have to visit!!

This is a place I have visited before and have always had a good experience. The outside area when the weather is good is particuarly lovely. However, after visiting at the weekend I have been left not wanting to return. Understandably due to the pandameic we expected the pantry to be busy but on this occassion it was not. There was only a few people in the restaurant so we was a bit surprised with the wait for our food. Although, we aren't usually ones to complain having worked in hospitality in our teens we understand things don't always go smoothly and we did enjoy sitting in the sun. The issue we had however was we had a time limit on our table of an hour we had now got to 55 minutes and still no food at this point I felt it was best to address this. Another factor which contributed to this was that a family opposite had ordered 25 minutes after us and had recieved their four plates of cooked foor where as ours we didn't even need to be cooked. This family however seemed to be the waitresses son and three grandchildren so she had put them infront of us despite coming a lot later which was slightly irritating but again we let that slide. However, the whole time we were there she stood there and chatted to them gave us 0 customer service and when we asked about our food she had forgotten to process the ticket. Again, this may be an easy mistake if you are busy etc I would be understanding but she just stood talking to family memebers with no care while the younger waitresses and waitors were working hard. She apologised and said she would process the ticket but 55 minutes later we were annoyed and decide to leave and not return back.

Have been here a few times. The staff are always so friendly and helpful. Love all the quaint china. But the best part for me are the gorgeous cakes. Plenty to choose from and fresh daily. Be back soon

Lovely food, really liked the cafes quaint atmosphere, a great spot in bishops Stortford, it’s a small space to expect to be dining in close quarters. Staff are always happy and quick to help, nothing is too much trouble .

I was recommended this little cafe as being a great eating and coffee spot and I was extremely relieved to see it with the weather that storm Dennis brought. We were very warmly greeted by extremely friendly and attentive staff and immediately shown to a table. The styling of the cafe was very quaint and relaxed and reminded me very much of very traditional English cafes nestled deep in the countryside. We ordered some coffee which was absolutely delicious which came really quickly and then settled on some lunch dishes from the extensive and well organised menu. I ordered an open bagel and my partner ordered a creamy mushroom, spinach and blue cheese jacket potato. These came in a matter of 10 minutes and we were both astounded by the quantity and quality of the food. Both dishes came with a stunning salad as well homemade coleslaw which we would have happily paid for on top. I was extremely impressed with this little cafe and the price of all the food and coffee we ordered was extremely reasonable. If you are looking for some traditional English cafe food and a great coffee then this is the place to be. (The cakes looked delicious too but we had no room left after our lunch).

We were recommended this cafe by the staff in Latham's furniture shop and what a delight it was. We only had a sandwich each plus a hot drink, but the service, the drinks the food were all excellent. We had probably the worst table in the cafe, just by the entrance but it didn't matter and we didn't have to wait unlike some others; victims of their own success!! I ticked the 'cheap eats' box but I'm not sure how a brunch can be rated in this way. Put it this way; no complaints from me.Other cafe owners; this is how it should be done.

This cafe is a small and has a lovely homely feel to it. The staff are really friendly and the menu is OK. However the reason why I haven't scored it any higher is the wait for the food, it is always takes so long for it to come to the table , so much so that you've finished your drinks before it arrives. I appreciate that the food is freshly cooked but compared to other independent cafes the waiting time is too long.

Just what was needed on a chilly December morning! This fabulous place does traditional with a twist. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The tea was proper leaves with a pot, strainer and china cup - makes all the difference! The girls who served us were lovely and the surroundings are just right. Thank you!!

Went in here for lunch and then returned to have cake and coffee later in the day. The breakfast bagel (garlic mushrooms w/ scrambled eggs) was very filling, and the cake did not disappoint.It can get very crowded at times and you might be asked to move. I did not mind, but it is something other patrons need to be aware of.

It was my birthday when we visited south street. We had been for breakfast but as it was my birthday I wanted tea and cake. We had heard lots of good things about s.s.p and it's always busy when we walk past so thought we would finally give it a go.

We were there as it opened which is a must as it gets busy very quickly. There is one reason for this. The breakfast was amazing. I had the smashed avocado with chilli jam on gluten free toast with a side of smoked salmon. It was so delicious I didn’t want it to end. Fresh ingredients beautifully presented. I love to support a local business and will return to the Pantry.

We only went in for coffee and cake, the other half and the in-laws and I. Warmly greeted, excellent service, delicious cakes (and a good selection) and the best flat white coffee I have tested for many a day. Nice ambience, tastily decorated would definitely go again, and maybe trade up to a breakfast or lunchtime snack - the menu looked very interesting.Recommended

Danielle and Glenn kindly agreed to donate a cream tea gift voucher as a raffle prize for my Macmillan coffee morning in September 2019. We raised over £900 so thank you both! Definitely worth a visit. The lunch was great.

Not impressed and won't be going again. Tea served in chipped cup followed by a full English style breakfast with odd tasting tomatoes, mushrooms and sausage. Had a really weird taste to them, could not quite put my finger on what was causing it, but it was not pleasant. No fried eggs on offer, only poached or scrambled. I piece of toast each cut into 4 with just 2 butter portions. Had to ask for more. Not happy at all and would not recommend.

They are foodies and care about what you eat. I had the avocado and goats cheese on bacon rather than bread as I am on The Get Well diet for cancer. They also can put it on flat mushrooms. Delicious

We stopped for breakfast on our way to Kent and had a delicious meal (I like the flexible breakfast options). Hubby was a bit upset because he saw the amazing display of cakes but even he couldn't do that after a full English!

We only had coffee and cake here. The cake was nice. China cups and saucers, which could have done with a bit of cleaning. But the noise!!! Some of which was generated from liquidisers and coffee machines, most from people talking, it was a busy Saturday afternoon; but the worst was the continual scraping of chairs on the stone floors. May I suggest some pads for the bottom of the chair legs? Easily available from John Lewis, Homebase etc.

I went to South Street Pantry today with my daughter and 21 month old granddaughter who was very unhappy the moment we walked in. She was making quite a fuss and Sandra cane to our rescue with a gingerbread man which calmed my granddaughter immediately! Sandra was so kind and understanding and because of her quick thinking we went on to have a fabulous visit! All the staff are always so good every visit but Sandra was a star today, thank you! We will definitely be back very soon.

We had a delicious lunch today. This charming cafe is beautifully decorated and food is served on lovely china crockery. There was plenty of choice on the menu, all reasonably priced and served with a smile. Our portions were huge so we didn't have room to try the scrumptious looking cakes; we will definitely be returning to sample the cakes next time! I am so pleased to have found this quirky little place and highly recommend it to those looking for something different from the 'usual' high street coffee shops.

My daughter has a favourite cake (snickers) and after choosing South Street Pantry as a half term treat I messaged ahead to see if there was any chance they might have this particular cake today. Dannielle replied straight away and said she would talk to her bakers to see if it was possible. We arrived today and to my daughters delight found they had managed to make her favourite cake. The waitress serving us made sure a large slice was cut for her on arrive as it was selling quick. They went above and beyond with customer service. We had a lovely visit, delicious cheese on toast, amazing cakes (I had coffee and caramel cake) and friendly helpful service. Quaint tea shop surroundings, highly recommended. Can’t wait for our next visit.
