Called in to The White Hart on August bank holiday Monday after a long (10mile) walk. Elected to skip starter and instead went for a main with some sides to share followed by desert for two of us and coffee for the other member of the group. We weren’t disappointed, particularly impressed with the home made battered onion rings and the halloumi cheese bites. My White Hart burger was enormous and really tasty, it was good that I was offered a choice of two different kinds of fries. My friends both had fish and chips and there were no complaints there either. Both were impressed with the curry sauce served in its own small bowl and the how the peas were served as a purée. For dessert the cheesecake was really good, and much the same could be said for the chocolate brownie. Staff were very friendly and attentive, all in all a great meal, and luckily for me it’s only 100yds from my front door. Will definitely be going back again soon.

Such a lovely friendly pub and the food is great. The pizza is amazing, its my favourite thing. Any food we order is always so lovely. The pub does a great quiz night on a Tuesday evening, I think its GBP 12 for dinner, a drink and entry to the quiz - fantastic value and its a great evening. My only criticism about the quiz is that it goes on too late - we have to get up for work the next day!! Cut down the amount of rounds and during the music round - you don't have to play the music for as long as you do - we want to be done, dusted, won the quiz by 10pm :) Highly recommend this pub.

Went recently to the White Hart in Puckeridge (having not been to this pub in many years) and was very impressed with the food. Maybe its had a change of owner. Staff were very friendly, pub felt very homely - it was like visiting family. Pub was full of couples, families, people on their own eating - nice atmosphere. We had pork belly and braised cabbage, pie of the day, ribs - all were lovely and massive portions. We had 4 main courses and 3 rounds of drinks and the bill came to a hundred pounds, very reasonable. We will be coming back.

The title tells it all! This quaint old pub stays true to its roots. The parts of the interior have the same features present from when it was built. It is beautifully decorated in new and tasteful colors with loving touches all around so it is very pleasant to the eye. The food is delicious, plentiful, and homemade. We had steak pies that were huge with lovely sides and we easily could have split one. There were other lovely choices on the menu of tradtional English fare with new twists, so much so it was hard to make a choice. Many local people were in here which I think bodes well for this establishment. The server was pleasant and chatty. Behind the pub is an outdoor area that would be a pleasant place to eat on a good weather day.

So frequently Mother's Day meals are a total anti climax, limited choice menus, prices being cranked up for average food, and poor staff over worked. I am delighted to say that at the White Hart non of this happens. A great menu, which had all 10 of us smiling, as we had loads of great choices. I went for squid, cooked well and a tasty piquant sauce, followed by one of the best calves liver and bacon I have had, easily up there with Elenas and Langans. Even got tempted into a pudding, a light and tasty bread pudding, excellent custard. All 10 of us, most importantly mums and grandmums really enjoyed the meal, service was very good and not at all pushy. Fantastic value as well.

Very disappointed. I reordered the burger which was fine but I was eating as the rest of my party was ordering pudding The children's meals came out last a big no no in family dining. Their puddings came our last tooOur eldest knocked her ice cream off the table shattering the glass. We asked for tissue to clear it. We visited the White Hart sort of by default as our first choice to eat on Saturday was full of a large group of young men with the volume turned up and we don't do noise over food. Still, the reviews for the White Hart were good although I could not find a menu on line so we took a chance and gave the White Hart a try. It looks like a well cared for typical village pub but inside it was pleasantly quaint with tables in the bar area and a small passage to a delightfuly intimate small restaurant. Only about five tables but with nice ambience. The service was attentive without being obtrusive and although the menu is not extensive it was encouraging and adequte. We both had the Lamb Rump which was excellent and cooked to perfection. This is perhaps the most pleasant dinning room we have visited and the food is great so this is a pub well worth a second visit. ::Neil::

Went out for a few 'lemonades' and some pub grub and I was definitely impressed! For the price you're paying, the standard of food you're getting is above and beyond that. I personally wouldn't like to pay more, but they could definitely charge more. Which is a compliment. One comment I would like to add is the possibility of discouraging smoking right outside the entrance/exit and request that people go to the covered seating area.

I read some great reviews of the White Hart on Trip advisor following its change of management and excitedly decided to go for dinner. It’s always great to find a hidden gem on your doorstep. The interior is traditional and in keeping with the age of the village, with modern soft furnishings and the Hart theme running throughout with interesting ornaments and objects scattered about. There’s ample parking and a large pub garden to enjoy in warmer weather too.You can see it’s a pub trying to be a restaurant though it’s more pub than restaurant at the moment. Quite a few children in the bar area and some loud locals propping up the bar were not exactly welcoming which is a shame considering the proximity of the tables to the bar. The ambience was off putting; you don’t go out for dinner and expect to listen to other peoples conversations in that much detail or indeed have your conversation overheard. The food was okay, portion size was generous and the menu consisted of good old fashion pub staples. Not microwave gastro pub meals of today but solid pub fare of yesteryear. The prices vary but a haunch of venison will set you back £17 and a steak stood at £20. We opted for sausage, mash, veg and gravy and a beef burger in a brioche bun with a side of onion rings, the later being the stand out feature of dinner. Delicious, light homemade onion rings done very well.So would I go back, no. Personally I think the pricing is a little steep for pub food, but that’s me. The quality of the food and service doesn't redeem the slightly menacing bar atmosphere.

I found this after looking on Trip Advisor and can see why it's scored such great reviews. The food is delicious and hearty with a great choice on the menu (I could have ordered several starters and mains!!). The service was attentive and friendly and I love the way they have redecorated it. I'd love to return for a Sunday lunch as they have a lovely fire in the bar. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place and will be returning!

Came across the White Hart by chance when the place we usually eat in that area had finished serving food. What a fantastic find. Cannot fault. Excellent food, they get it just right with a traditional menu cooked to a high standard. All home prepared.Very generous portions, unfortunately I was so full from main course that I had no room for desert which promise to be special if the rest of the food is anything to go by.Service good and staff genuinely friendly. Excellent value for money.Defiantly will be going back for evening meal.Booking for evenings is recommended.

I have lived in the area for many years and previously found the food to be average. However the new owners have greatly improved this and our meal was excellent and the portion size really good which is a must for me. Good value for money. Great to have a pub in the village with good food.

Since the White Hart has changed hands this year we have eaten here on a few occasions and had excellent meals and service every time. Portions are very generous and affordably priced. Make sure to leave room for a pud as they are home made and delicious. Definitely now our favourite local eating place. We know the new tenants have worked hard and we wish them every success which they deserve.

Have eaten here in the past but decided to revisit as it has changed hands. Nicely decorated with a deer theme. A good selection of starters and mains and an additional specials menu. The portions are large but the quality is good. The wine and beer selection is good and they serve the prosecco in small bottles so you get a little bit extra. The pub was busy when I went at 6.00pm and full of "locals" so it is well served by the community. Maybe because of this the service was a little slow but I had a good time anyway.

Have been here twice recently and had great meal each time. First was a family meal and secondly with friends for a birthday celebration. Relaxing, warm atmosphere, friendly, great beers and wines and although the menu is not as big as in some restaurants, we found the food excellent and very quick and friendly service. Would definitely recommend and will be back!

Whenever we go, this place is always busy no matter what day or time. This is simply because of the quality of the service and products. today, we had a sandwich. Mine, chicken salad with onion marmalade was simply delicious (who would think of marmalade in a chicken salad sandwich)? The other sandwich was prawn salad which I'm told was also delicious. Both sandwiches were at least an inch thick and no, that was not mostly salad, but chicken and prawn. My cappuccino was simply lovely. Add to this the staff are always friendly and accommodating, what else can anyone want?

6 of us ladies of leisure had breakfast in here this morning. Have been here a few times and they never disappoint. Food and service is consistently good. Run by a lovely friendly family. We all opted for omelettes ( different fillings) and they were perfect. Good coffee as well. Will be making this a more regular haunt . Can’t recommend enough

Poor. Used to be a lovely Pub to have a Roast Dinner in, especially on the Sundays the Classic Cars turned up! Today's Roast Beef was frankly nothing of the sort, tough, stringy and tasteless - I suspect it wasn't the days Roast at all, but some pre-packaged 'Roast Beef' slices. Apart from that, it's a nice, friendly, local Pub.
