Along with the lovely tea/coffee and food on offer, you have the added bonus of the beautiful garden to sit and relax in. When I visited it was very busy. I was impressed by how organised and helpful the staff were. I also noted how lovely and respectful Sophie was to her staff, even when she was rushed off her feet! I really do love this place.

A beautiful setting with a lovely outdoor area too. Obviously very popular with cyclists. We visited as a family outing and treat and felt very welcome from Sophie. Specials had a great choice of and the menu is very kid friendly- we had two children with us (11 and 7) and they were very happy with their choice of meals. We took cake away to have at our next destination and they were delicious too - cannot beat home made cake!!

We (mid aged couple- young mid aged I've been told to add) generally like to try different places around the Harrogate area but Sophies has become a bit of a fixture over the years. Its ticks a lot of boxes. We discovered the café, just before Covid and supported it throughout (takeaways only) hoping it would come out the other side and it did. The cycling community have adopted it as a refuelling pit stop refuge but for us its a place to chat, sit in or out depending on the weather and even then there's a marquee. The food is excellent, fresh and varied. I highly recommend the Full English. I've had a lot of these over the years which is why I'm overweight but this is good. If you really want to push the boat out try chefs Olympic breakfast. I did and didn't eat again till Sunday morning! Most of all Sophie does fresh scones which my misses likes. There's a lot to recommend whatever time of year you visit. The garden and views in summer are lovely. Warning! When the peloton arrives its busy. All credit to Sophie and her team. Little gems like this are few and far between. Like pubs. Use it or loose it.

We have eaten and had takeaways from Sophies a few times and the Pizza had been great. And let me preface this next part with, I completely understand the challenges etc Covid 19 pose to such a cafe. However, we paid £30 total for three pizza's and they were completely different to what they had been. The cardboard they came in would have been better. It was super dry, but worst of all, It tasted of nothing !If supply etc has changed they need to say that before people set their expectations. The cheese was like rubber, the base was awful and it left a pasty texture. Such poor service at this time could cost a business. Really disappointed and I strongly advise against getting Pizzas from here until things change.

Used to eat regularly in The Joiner's Arms pub almost next door but it lost all its character when refurbished with grey walls and ceilings (even the lovely beams) and modern shiny bar fittings by its National Chain owners....haven't been back there since 2016 when I experienced poor service and expensive food. Knew Sophies as a village shop before it became a cafe and decided to try it when passing through Hampsthwaite at Sunday lunchtime. The village describes itself as "the gateway to the Dales" so expected a typical Yorkshire menu. When we opened the door the noise hit us...the chatter of customers and the loud hissing of the 'barrista' coffee machine was deafening! It was packed and we were asked to sit on a sofa until a table became free. We took its popularity as a good sign and decided to wait. Then we saw the 'specials' board and began to doubt that we were really in Nidderedale...'crushed avocado', 'crumbled feta', 'toasted sourdough', 'chorizo and beans on toast' etc. But, right at floor level and almost rubbed off the board by customers' feet, we spotted 'traditional roast beef or pork'. Needless to say, that's what we ordered. It turned out to be the best Sunday Roast we have had for years....the generous helping of beef was just pink enough, not too thinly sliced, moist and extremely tender; the Yorkshire puddings were a far cry from their original heavy forebears meant to quell hunger before the meat and were large, light, well risen, moist in their middles and crisp on the edges; potatoes were cooked in duck fat to make them tasty and toasty but not too hard; the 'carrot & swede mash', 'broccoli', 'red-cabbage' and 'cauliflower-cheese' were served in a separate dish togeher with a large jug of extra gravy. The quantity was ample enough for us not to want any of the tempting puddings on offer but not so much that we felt uncomfortably bloated. We just finished the meal with delicious coffees and left vowing to come back as often as we can. Thank you to the chef and all the very friendly & efficient front-of-house staff frantically dashing around to ensure that the needs of every customer were met without undue delay. Couldn't have been better!!

We've had more than one visit to Sophie's Coffee Shop and Delicatessen and decided it was time to write a review. Usually, we stop for coffee and a scone or bacon sandwich before a walk or half way during a bike ride. The bacon sandwiches are big rolls absolutely stuffed with high quality bacon. The cakes are all made on the premises and if you want more information, there's a recipe book available for sale. Sophie's welcomes groups of cyclists and there's plenty of room for bikes and a large outside seating area in the garden but it's also perfect for 'ladies who lunch' as the menu is imaginative. The staff are all lovely and the coffee super. What more could you want!

For some reason whilst sat there I kept thinking how it all seemed a bit like the one in Emmerdale although the owner is a lot younger. The cafe seems popular with locals. The service was reasonably good and the staff pleasant. The food we had was of average quality but also average price so reasonable. The coffee was good. The layout seems a bit cramped and it was quite noisy but I think there are tables in the garden at the back for when it isn't raining and that might be pleasant.I think they should try to do something about improving air extraction as the smell of cooking when one crosses the door step is not entirely pleasant. Would we go again? Yes if in Hampsthwaite but not as a destination venue.

We were regular customers of Sophies but the cafe lost its chef a couple of months ago and has since lost its sparkle.Weve noticed a big reduction of customers each time we visit and Sophie we feel has just got greedy. The expensive prices of her meals and snacks and drinks keep increasing but the size and taste have decreased. The old chef was Fab we dont know where he has gone but everything seems to have sufferred. My favourite was the scrambled egg on toast with bacon. The size of the meal has dwindled and its about the £7.00 mark which is vastly expensive. The scones were always good but we had a cheese one on our last visit and it was tasteless and hard and we all tasted it.We think it had been frozen the defrosted in the microwave but overcooked. We didnt pay for it.On a recent visit we were up at the counter looking at the big whole cakes when my girlfriend noticed a live ant crawling on the cake! The girl said this happens often. We hope and presume they threw the cake out.We think its only a matter of time before Sophies loses more of its regular customers. We wont return.Sort yourselves out Sophies! Been here a few times with my elderly mother and her friend. Although the prices have been high, I suppose that anything close to Harrogate will reflect this. On our most recent visit my mother and friend ordered soup of the day from the Specials Board - at £4.95 for a bowl of soup and bread bun it seemed expensive, but not a great issue. When I went to pay, the lady at the counter went to check the price on the Specials Board, and then issued a bill from the till. Another lady who I assumed was the owner or manager saw her colleague looking at the Specials Board and then rushed over to ask what was happening. She then told her colleague (not me) that the price had gone up, and without saying a word to me picked up a cloth and piece of chalk, and changed the price to £5.95! With no acknowledgement to me, she then went back to the kitchen area.

However, after my last visit we will not be returning as the service we received was appalling. We had to send back one meal as it was burnt and greasy and asked for a replacement meal. This then took 20 minutes to arrive with no appolgies and on paying for the meal we were informed that we would have to pay for both the meals as the first one was just how it was served. I would like to be leaving a good review for Sophie's bed and breakfast. However, having booked in for one night while walking the Nidderdale Way and having paid a deposit on our chosen room we were contacted a day or so later to be told our room had subsequently been let elsewhere and that later booking made via a third party web site would take priority. No problem, or so we thought. We asked for our deposit back and booked elsewhere. We were told that a refund had been processed but none arrived so we contacted the business a week or so later and were told by management that they would look into the problem and call us back, no call was received. We have not been supplied with receipts for our payment or documents to support our supposed refund so all in all a pretty poor set up. Now, due to lack of communication from Sophie's Bed and Breakfast we have had to start a dispute/complaints procedure via our bank. Sophies need to get their management procedures in order and do what they say they are going to do if they don't want more dissatisfied customers.

I chose a date and walnut scone as I had not tasted one before, I'm glad I did as it was divine. All the staff were lovely and friendly and Sophie's is situated in the picturesque village of Hampsthwaite with inviting walks nearby.

Three of us called in for tea and cakes, the date and walnut scones were delicious but sadly the coffee cake was dry, friendly waitress and nice environment.

This is a very friendly and beautiful coffee shop, one I would highly recommend. It is situated in the heart of the Yorkshire countryside in a village called Hampsthwaite and is very popular even with locals. The food is home cooked and excellent and they even do a pizza service from 5pm in the evenings. The service is second to none and comes with a warmly friendly smile too.

I have been to Sophie's many times, sometimes on a bicycle, sometimes arriving by car. It's great for coffee, homemade cakes, lunches. It's in a fabulous location, and has outside seating on the edge of open country. By a long way it's the best coffee shop in the whole of Harrogate District.

At Sophie's cafe I had an average experience. We ordered a smoothie and I don't get how they can call it that! All it was was ice and flavouring. However, the pizzas were nice. My only criticism is that the Pizza didn't have enough sauce on. Ps the smoothie costed more than the Peroni!

Local place to my home. Called in for coffee and cake while on a walk with my brother. Coffee was average at best. Cake had been stood in the sun, then chilled, then repeated and chocolate on the Millionaire Shortbread had discoloured. Lady used her hands to put cake on plates without using gloves or tongs, and then handled the money we gave her.

We have yet to be disappointed at Sophies Coffee Shop. We visited with some friends at lunchtime last Sunday and the service and food were excellent as always. Sophie, the owner, is a charming lady who produces lots of wonderful home made food in a very relaxed atmosphere.

I come here maybe two / three times a month. The food is always amazing, the coffee is probably my favourite in harrogate! And the atmosphere is excellent. Sophie and the other staff members are very pleasant, and go that extra mile to get to know their customers. They are also doggy friendly which is a much added bonus!!

Called in for coffee after a cold damp walk, not realising they would be busy with Sunday lunch service. Greeted as we went in, we asked if we could just have coffee - no problem at all. We settled on one of the comfy sofas to leave tables for diners. Served quickly with very good coffee (and I'm very fussy about coffee quality), and enjoyed watching the food being served to others. It all looked so good that we will be back for Sunday lunch in the next few weeks.

We visited on Saturday lunchtime &, as it's a popular place, we booked a table. We were really glad we had as it was busy. Despite this we were served promptly & in a friendly & efficient manner. We ordered a combination of things including the All Day Breakfast, jacket potato with plenty of delicious filling & a crisp salad, again with plenty of filling. We all enjoyed our food. We also had a choice of hot & cold drinks including latte, cappuccino, Americano & a pot of tea for one, which were all lovely & piping hot. There were plenty of tempting cakes & puddings to choose from, but we were unable to manage any as we were full, maybe next time. There definitely will be a next time & we can't wait!! Well done to Sophie & her team!!

I met some walkers nearby and they recommended this coffee shop/cafe, so I stopped for a coffee and snack. It was busy even on a February weekday, but the food looked good as two fellow visitors with whom I shared a table ordered some lunch and it looked tasty.

Great coffee & food at this lovely independent cafe, situated near to the stray and to town on Cold Bath Road. It’s so friendly and has a really welcoming atmosphere (even if, like me, you don’t cycle!) There are so many cafes to choose from in Harrogate, but this is my favourite - hands down!

Really nice little shop with lots of gifts. Little expensive, but expected for Harrogate. Selection of chocolates at front were lovely, apple strudel white chocolate was incredible.

Best afternoon tea about! Mama Doreen’s never disappoints, the food is beautiful as is the fizz! The staff are friendly, attentive and extremely patient (when customers are being outright rude and difficult). Big shout out to Elliot who was amazing, thank you for making my mums birthday so special! Can’t wait to come back soon xxx

Amazing ice cream. Always plenty of staff working and all very nice and pleasant. Place is very clean and tidy. Plenty of inside and outside seating. Also nice big car park. Ice cream portions are very generous ( no tiny scoops here brymor!! ) and good choice of flavours which changes regularly. Dad and I stopped for lunch today. They only have sandwiches and toastie, sausage rolls and cakes We had toasties and they were the best toasties we have had. Loaded with ham and cheese and mine with cheese and onion. Nicely presented with a lovely fresh side salad and coleslaw. 2 toastie and 2 hot drinks for under £20.00. The hot chocolate was nice and hot and not too sweet. I highly recommend going here for an ice cream or a toastie.

Visited on a sunny Saturday lunch. Food was excellent. Fresh crab soup and warm baked bread was brilliant. Fish pie superb and Baked Alaska to finish rounded it off so well. Sat in garden for coffee. So calm and welcoming. Location, food choice and service was very professional, personal and friendly.. Will definitely make a return visit even at 150 mile round trip from Sunderland. Superb all round
