Overall experience (service, ambiance and food) was fine but underwhelming food & portion size for the price point & branding Kudos for being creative with flavours and textures but the concept has been stretched too thin, there is no pad thai in the menu sadly and the portion size is confusing as they can’t decide if they’re a small plates or main dishes restaurant. There are a couple of small starters and the mains are too small to be mains, kinda annoying You need to decide what you are

To begin with, a male staff member asked for my name and telephone number, which made me feel like it was unnecessary to collect so much personal information as a walk-in diner. Then, I was unfortunate enough to be seated at the bar as a first-time solo diner. That gave me a very bad first impression. Despite the restaurant not appearing crowded, he seemingly made no effort—or at least didn’t try—to offer me a better seat. He could have shown me what it looked like inside and let me check if a two-person table was available. Of course, I couldn’t be 100% sure whether the inside was already full, as I was seated at the bar, but I would have appreciated it if he had at least given me the option to see for myself. Once at the bar, the bartender standing in front of me acted as if I wasn’t even there. I assumed he might notify the other staff when I was ready to order, but instead, he remained entirely focused on his own tasks, paying no attention to me. On the other hand, the female staff member was excellent. She was cool, confident, and friendly, patiently guiding me through the menu and recommending options for a solo diner. She also clarified that the sticky rice was not the sweet version, which I really appreciated. The sticky rice itself was fantastic, and I was grateful for her attentive service. The overall atmosphere was very decent and classy. Even before ordering anything, I could already tell that this restaurant was on the pricier side. The food was amazing and utterly ambrosial—no doubt about it. However, Thai food is commonly known for being both affordable and delicious, so it can be quite surprising when the price is much higher than expected. All in all, the food was great, and the environment was fantastic. The staff were professional overall. As the seat was extremely uncomfortable because the bar table was quite tall, making the dining experience less enjoyable. That makes me wonder whether I would revisit this restaurant. I think the answer might be no, as it doesn’t seem worth spending a fortune on lunch when I don’t feel fully satisfied with the overall experience. I guess I’ll come back next time when I no longer care about how much I’m spending. I didn't regret visiting this restaurant. It was still an incredibly memorable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.

My new favourite Thai and restaurant in the city. Came to test it out with an industry colleague for future client dining. Hannah served us and she was brilliant!! Talked us through the menu and her recommendations were fantastic. A place I’d definitely be gate keeping but I can’t not do a good review. We spent about £50 per person (2 people) but we ordered a lot of food. So great value.

A very fun, vibey restaurant with some great Thai food! We really loved the ambience and the cocktails - super fresh and innovative. However, only giving the food a 4. While the food was excellent and definitely move flavourful / exciting than your local Thai takeaway, it was more along the sharing plates / tapas style. Not great for value for money, however there are a few curry options that we didn’t get around to trying. Menu could overall do with a few more options.

Som Saa brings bold Thai flavors to London with standout dishes like Nahm Dtok Plaa Thort (crispy sea bass), Mu Yaang (coconut-smoked pork), and Gaeng Massaman Neua (rich beef curry). Fresh salads and stir-fries round out the menu, making it a must-visit for Thai food lovers.

This restaurant attempts to present Thai cuisine in a fine dining format but falls short on multiple levels. The food seems to be adapted to local tastes, straying noticeably from authentic Thai flavors. Whether one enjoys the dishes or not is subjective, but in my experience, they were rather unremarkable. However, if a restaurant positions itself as fine dining, the overall experience should at least meet the standards of other establishments in the city—this one does not. The set menu policy is particularly absurd: a solo diner can order it for £45, but if two people dine together, both must order the set menu at £90 in total with the same food. When questioned, the staff provided conflicting explanations—one claiming the dishes couldn’t be shared, another citing kitchen efficiency—both implying that customer experience is not a priority. Service is another major letdown. Staff are largely inattentive; getting a server’s attention for basic requests like water refills, drinks, or additional orders requires an unreasonable wait. No one checks in on your dining experience, which is a fundamental expectation in fine dining. To top it off, the bill is placed on the table without request, giving the distinct impression that you’re being rushed out. If you do visit, I’d recommend going alone if you plan to try the set menu, as dining in a group does not provide any additional value. Better yet, skip the set menu entirely and order à la carte—you’ll get more variety for the same price. Just be prepared for a version of Thai cuisine that may not match your expectations. The photo just shows what £100 you can get in this restaurant.

Great atmosphere and very good service. Removing 2 stars because of the food. The dishes are creative and peculiar, but they taste too much and don’t layer well. First dish tastes fun, then with 2nd and 3rd result in sensory overload. Maybe this should be solved by some guidance from the waiter - in terms of which dishes worth combining. At the end I felt quite bloated and confused. Separately will mention sticky rice - please don’t serve it on plastic sachet, warm plastic film leaves microplastic in food.

If you want a different and authentic Thai meal then this is definitely the one! Beautiful deco and we arrived shortly after the place is opened on a Thursday night but have to be seated at the bar while waiting for our table (booking is advised!) Ordered the gai yaang (grilled chicken skewers) as starter which arrived freshly cooked and juicy. Mains we went for nahm dtok pla thort (Isaan style deep fried seabass with isaan herbs and roasted rice powder) and gaeng massaman (massaman curry of flourish farm squash, roasted shallots, ratte potatoes and cashew nuts). The curry is nice especially with the sticky rice, however the highlight is definitely the seabass which we were told later on that dish has been on the menu since day 1! The fish is full of rich favours and very good for value especially if you’re sharing. A slight dip is I did order a jasmine rice halfway through the meal but the waiter must has forgotten the order and it never came, by that time we have already finished most of our mains so there wasn’t any point in ordering. However it is still a very enjoyable meal and worth mentioning the place also offers an extensive drinks menu so definitely worth coming back to try them!

I found this restaurant when looking for any dog friendly Asian restaurants. I was so pleased that we (me and my dog, Hachi) were given a table for 4 by the window. I managed to feed Hachi her dinner while waiting for food to arrive. The waitress didn't pressurise me to order a drink. Instead, she offered me some tap water. As I had already decided what to order before I got there, I placed my order straight away. My himmapan colada (mango & coconut drink) arrived first. My seabass, chicken skewer and sticky rice came very quickly. I thought I might need to order something green to make the meal look healthier. The seabass, which was actually swimming in a bed of fresg GREEN herbs, was huge and moist. Hachi loved the fillet as well. I didn’t give her any sauce which I found a bit salty. The chicken skewer was tender and delicious even without the dip. I liked their simple menu. I hate reading essay long menus. There were only two dessert options. Instead of having sticky rice again for dessert, I had the salted palm sugar ice cream with turmeric grilled bananas. Surprisingly, the ice cream was not deadly sweet. It's just so yummy. I wanted a second one if my tummy had more room. I must praise how clean their disabled toilet was (Hachi didn't manage to eat any toilet paper on the floor and her paws maintained dry :)).

Som Saa Thai Restaurant Review Som Saa is a vibrant Thai restaurant offering an authentic dining experience. The flavors are bold and punchy, with an emphasis on traditional Thai spices. The dishes here tend to be on the spicier side, so if you’re not a fan of heat, it’s worth mentioning to the staff when you order. One noticeable feature of the menu is the heavy use of citrus flavors, particularly lime and lemon, which gives the food a fresh and zesty twist. While this adds a refreshing tang, it might feel a bit repetitive if you’re not a fan of that flavor profile. The atmosphere is lively, and the service is attentive, making it a great spot for adventurous food lovers who enjoy authentic Thai cuisine with a kick. Just be prepared for some heat and a touch of citrus in almost every bite!

We got 3 dishes and a chicken satay for the two of us to share, it was perfect, and once again the food was absolutely delicious. The ambience of the restaurant is also really lovely. The cost was a bit pricey, but well worth it I’d say, especially if you’re going out for a nice occasion or want to treat yourself. I highly recommend the pork and fish!! Over the years I have visited Som Saa multiple times, and the quality has always kept even which is a tell of a great restaurant. Furthermore they have great variety of really well flavoured dishes that are not too tuned down when it comes to level of spice which is always great, cause this is how Thai food is supposed to taste. This time was the first time I went in for lunch, and I must give a shoutout for the fact that they accommodate solo eaters by offering half portions of most of their dishes which you don’t see very often. As a person who eats out solo a lot, I most of the time feel like solo eaters are not accommodated for or not really considered, as most of the dishes or menus are only available one size or for groups of people, and that makes it basically impossible to taste variety of dishes (unless you are rolling in money) as you end up paying double for what most people would share price and size wise. And I think especially in Thai food the point is to have multiple dishes that compliment each other, not to mention the waste that would come out of having to order full portions and not being able to eat all of it. So I really wish there would be more formal restaurants following the lead of Som Saa and considering solo eaters. I normally opt for meat curries, but I chose the pumpkin massaman and I must say it’s by far the best veggie curry I have ever tasted, it had all the rounded flavours massaman is supppsed to have and the texture of kabocha pumpkin is perfect replacement for meat. However the clear fish ball soup was the highlight, the fishballs were so fluffy and the broth amazingly soothing and rich.

The big question…. Which is winner 🏆 Kiln, Speedboat bar or Som saa for Thai 🇹🇭 food & service/restaurant ambience… We came here on a recommendation from a mate that’s been here several times…. So I was very curious to try after being to the other two mentioned above…. And an antipodean. The pre drinks were nice as our table wasn’t ready when we arrived… The restaurant 3/4’s full when we ate this Saturday evening… The service from Uma was superb, massive thx to her for recommendations with food and the jasmine water after extremely spicy 🌶️ prawn entree… So we ate marinated prawns 🌶️🌶️, and then the venison jungle curry ( bit of an anticlimax) and the famous sea-bass dish, which was fantastic…. X2 rice… Sadly, as the prawn dish was so spicy, I was unable to get the full taste of the main dishes….. Thankfully, the palm ice cream with caramelised banana as a desert eased my mouth ( cooled it down )…. Overall a nice meal another one ticked off the list before our holiday to Thailand in February Better prices than the two restaurants in Piccadilly Circus mentioned above …. Looking forward to go back to the area to try some of the other restaurants along the same road….. esp one across rd serving oysters 🦪 Wife enjoyed the sea-bass and she doesn’t like spicy food… Overall Service excellent, food good, price pretty good….

Front of house staff and waitress were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the dishes and checked several times on allergies - well trained I thought. The drinks were great and was prompt. The actual food is a little bit disappointing, though. Every single dish including the rice was served lukewarm at best, the rice is served in plastic bags in a bamboo cup, not sure whether for novelty or aesthetic reasons. It was early evening on a weekday, so couldn't say the warm dishes was due to it being peak time. The flavours are great and the dishes are indeed delicious but the overall price is quite expensive to put simply - Thai food is never cheap in the UK, but this was another level, the prices I would expect to pay in the heart of Central London in a semi-"fancy" restaurant, not Aldgate East. The bill was £125 for the three of us, and we had to pop into another restaurant afterwards, which is not something I can say I've done before 😅.

Service was impeccable—everything was well explained, and the staff made sure our needs were met at every turn. 5/5 for both the incredible taste and top-notch service!

Overall pretty good. The whole fish was tasty though the sauce was quite salty. The salad on special (papaya) I didn't care for. It was spicy which I was warned about, but it was pretty uniform in taste/texture. The ice cream was very good.

Food was incredible. Each dish was unique and we ordered everything on the menu. The dessert wasn’t impressive but the chicken skewers were one of the best I’ve ever had. The deep friend fish was amazing too!

**Restaurant Review: Som Saa** **Atmosphere:** Som Saa boasts a brilliant atmosphere that sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The ambiance is vibrant and inviting, making it a pleasant spot for both casual and special occasions. **Food Quality:** While the food was generally enjoyable, it did not fully meet expectations. The menu available online differed from what was offered in the restaurant, which was a bit disappointing. The dishes were nice but lacked the punch of flavor that one might hope for. Many of the flavors could have been more potent, enhancing the overall experience. **Highlights:** - The **sea bass** was a standout dish, beautifully prepared and enjoyable. - The **soup**, however, was overly salty, which detracted from its potential. **Comparison with Kolae:** Your sister's experience at Kolae seems to have overshadowed Som Saa. It sounds like Kolae's offerings provided more flavor and a better overall experience. If you found the flavors at Kolae to be more vibrant and satisfying, it’s understandable why you would prefer to spend your money there in the future. **Would You Return?** Based on your experience, it seems that you would not choose to return to Som Saa. Instead, you’d rather enjoy a meal at Kolae, which has left a more positive impression. --- Overall, while Som Saa has its merits, particularly in atmosphere, it may not be the go-to destination for those seeking an exceptional culinary experience.

Bonito ambiente

I went last night to Som Saa for my friends birthday and was extremely delighted with the amazing food and great flavours! We got the sea bass, papaya salad, chicken skewers and pork curry and it was phenomenal. The staff were amazing as well, Davide was so lovely and helpful throughout our night and made our experience so much better. Would definitely come again!

We had a tasty supper at Som Saa. I did feel my crab starter was overpriced but it was a yummy mouthful. I’m glad I ordered the papaya salad to share as a starter but it was extremely HOT, we were warned. We were brought some chilled jasmine tea to cool our mouths down, it was very much needed. My husband loved his chicken skewer. The tofu curry was excellent but it needed more vegetables, maybe broccoli. The pork laab was good but again it had a kick to it. We both felt the rice portions were stingy, my husband definitely need more to cool his mouth down with the pork. We shared a delicious coconut and mango rice pudding. The service was very good and the small menu had so many other things we’d like to try. We’ll be back.

A nice experience - food is okay. The veg was great but it was unclear how spicy certain dishes are and the pork was very spicy! This could’ve been signposted better on the menu. Other than this the chicken was delicious. The rice was a bit dry and there isn’t a huge selection of food or dessert to choose from. Overall it’s got a great atmosphere and is very pretty inside.

10/10 experience here! Food was delightful, drinks paired nicely with the food. The highlight for us was the service by our host Abayti. She had exceptional knowledge and made the whole experience very seamless. Will definitely return :)

This restaurant is a joke, I just called in the morning to book a table for 7 pm and they have told me to call again around 3.30pm just to let me know that I would not be able to book anymore as the restaurant is full. That’s so ridiculous and plus the guy over the phone was making literally taking jokes on this.

The vegetarian food is much too hot. The mushroom plates don’t state they’re hot but we couldn’t eat them. They brought us some tea to help but a £60 bill for food we could hardly eat is disappointing.

A popular Thai spot that’s always busy with long queues. The menu changes frequently with limited choices, but everything is consistently well-prepared. The cozy atmosphere is perfect for a date or a casual drink, making it worth the wait.

The service is fantastic, the waitress is knowledgeable about the food and suggestions. Food taste and texture are spot on, just a little too salty for all of us. Our favourite dishes are the sea bass with fresh herbs, the chicken skewers were very tender n aromatic. Our least favourite is the red mullet with turmeric sauce, just bland and found it lost in "translation." Atmosphere is vibrant. Great job as they kept the menu simple, great presentation, with good cocktails too! Love to return again. Keep the salt level down.

Implore you spot and discount the reviews from accounts with a single review. I was in London on business. For sure. Options galore. But it had to be the Lahore One. It really did. And again, impressed by the service - which Is always warm and welcoming - and of course the crux, what’s on the plate. The foods were a delight. Kebab and mogo chips (plus the popadom ) to start. Chana for mains. We also split a lamb biriyani and bolted on a roti each too. We finished on a (shared) kheer. Sublime. As it always is.

Visited at around 830 for a late dinner with friends, staff is passionate and very very friendly. Ordered three mains based on staff recommendation and we are so satisfied with the dishes. Free to choose between jasmine rice and egg fried rice, and I would recommend everyone to try the egg fried rice !!! It’s so good and authentic. Beef brisket is my pick
