Very delicious food and great atmosphere. The stir fried greens and asian mushrooms was a highlight! And on a bonus note, the bathrooms smelt amazing.

I found this restaurant when looking for any dog friendly Asian restaurants. I was so pleased that we (me and my dog, Hachi) were given a table for 4 by the window. I managed to feed Hachi her dinner while waiting for food to arrive. The waitress didn't pressurise me to order a drink. Instead, she offered me some tap water. As I had already decided what to order before I got there, I placed my order straight away. My himmapan colada (mango & coconut drink) arrived first. My seabass, chicken skewer and sticky rice came very quickly. I thought I might need to order something green to make the meal look healthier. The seabass, which was actually swimming in a bed of fresg GREEN herbs, was huge and moist. Hachi loved the fillet as well. I didn’t give her any sauce which I found a bit salty. The chicken skewer was tender and delicious even without the dip. I liked their simple menu. I hate reading essay long menus. There were only two dessert options. Instead of having sticky rice again for dessert, I had the salted palm sugar ice cream with turmeric grilled bananas. Surprisingly, the ice cream was not deadly sweet. It's just so yummy. I wanted a second one if my tummy had more room. I must praise how clean their disabled toilet was (Hachi didn't manage to eat any toilet paper on the floor and her paws maintained dry :)).

If you want a different and authentic Thai meal then this is definitely the one! Beautiful deco and we arrived shortly after the place is opened on a Thursday night but have to be seated at the bar while waiting for our table (booking is advised!) Ordered the gai yaang (grilled chicken skewers) as starter which arrived freshly cooked and juicy. Mains we went for nahm dtok pla thort (Isaan style deep fried seabass with isaan herbs and roasted rice powder) and gaeng massaman (massaman curry of flourish farm squash, roasted shallots, ratte potatoes and cashew nuts). The curry is nice especially with the sticky rice, however the highlight is definitely the seabass which we were told later on that dish has been on the menu since day 1! The fish is full of rich favours and very good for value especially if you’re sharing. A slight dip is I did order a jasmine rice halfway through the meal but the waiter must has forgotten the order and it never came, by that time we have already finished most of our mains so there wasn’t any point in ordering. However it is still a very enjoyable meal and worth mentioning the place also offers an extensive drinks menu so definitely worth coming back to try them!

Som Saa Thai Restaurant Review Som Saa is a vibrant Thai restaurant offering an authentic dining experience. The flavors are bold and punchy, with an emphasis on traditional Thai spices. The dishes here tend to be on the spicier side, so if you’re not a fan of heat, it’s worth mentioning to the staff when you order. One noticeable feature of the menu is the heavy use of citrus flavors, particularly lime and lemon, which gives the food a fresh and zesty twist. While this adds a refreshing tang, it might feel a bit repetitive if you’re not a fan of that flavor profile. The atmosphere is lively, and the service is attentive, making it a great spot for adventurous food lovers who enjoy authentic Thai cuisine with a kick. Just be prepared for some heat and a touch of citrus in almost every bite!

10/10 the food was absolutely amazing wow. The waitress was super nice and knowledgeable, she explained to us that normally people get a few dishes from the menu and share them. When we were having trouble deciding what to get she helped us decide and advised us really well, she was super sweet. I didn’t catch her name but she had long green and black hair. We got 3 dishes and a chicken satay for the two of us to share, it was perfect, and once again the food was absolutely delicious. The ambience of the restaurant is also really lovely. The cost was a bit pricey, but well worth it I’d say, especially if you’re going out for a nice occasion or want to treat yourself. I highly recommend the pork and fish!! The pork was so tender and juicy, and the sauce it was in was SO good.

Over the years I have visited Som Saa multiple times, and the quality has always kept even which is a tell of a great restaurant. Furthermore they have great variety of really well flavoured dishes that are not too tuned down when it comes to level of spice which is always great, cause this is how Thai food is supposed to taste. This time was the first time I went in for lunch, and I must give a shoutout for the fact that they accommodate solo eaters by offering half portions of most of their dishes which you don’t see very often. As a person who eats out solo a lot, I most of the time feel like solo eaters are not accommodated for or not really considered, as most of the dishes or menus are only available one size or for groups of people, and that makes it basically impossible to taste variety of dishes (unless you are rolling in money) as you end up paying double for what most people would share price and size wise. And I think especially in Thai food the point is to have multiple dishes that compliment each other, not to mention the waste that would come out of having to order full portions and not being able to eat all of it. So I really wish there would be more formal restaurants following the lead of Som Saa and considering solo eaters. I normally opt for meat curries, but I chose the pumpkin massaman and I must say it’s by far the best veggie curry I have ever tasted, it had all the rounded flavours massaman is supppsed to have and the texture of kabocha pumpkin is perfect replacement for meat. However the clear fish ball soup was the highlight, the fishballs were so fluffy and the broth amazingly soothing and rich.

The big question…. Which is winner 🏆 Kiln, Speedboat bar or Som saa for Thai 🇹🇭 food & service/restaurant ambience… We came here on a recommendation from a mate that’s been here several times…. So I was very curious to try after being to the other two mentioned above…. And an antipodean. The pre drinks were nice as our table wasn’t ready when we arrived… The restaurant 3/4’s full when we ate this Saturday evening… The service from Uma was superb, massive thx to her for recommendations with food and the jasmine water after extremely spicy 🌶️ prawn entree… So we ate marinated prawns 🌶️🌶️, and then the venison jungle curry ( bit of an anticlimax) and the famous sea-bass dish, which was fantastic…. X2 rice… Sadly, as the prawn dish was so spicy, I was unable to get the full taste of the main dishes….. Thankfully, the palm ice cream with caramelised banana as a desert eased my mouth ( cooled it down )…. Overall a nice meal another one ticked off the list before our holiday to Thailand in February Better prices than the two restaurants in Piccadilly Circus mentioned above …. Looking forward to go back to the area to try some of the other restaurants along the same road….. esp one across rd serving oysters 🦪 Wife enjoyed the sea-bass and she doesn’t like spicy food… Overall Service excellent, food good, price pretty good….

Front of house staff and waitress were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the dishes and checked several times on allergies - well trained I thought. The drinks were great and was prompt. The actual food is a little bit disappointing, though. Every single dish including the rice was served lukewarm at best, the rice is served in plastic bags in a bamboo cup, not sure whether for novelty or aesthetic reasons. It was early evening on a weekday, so couldn't say the warm dishes was due to it being peak time. The flavours are great and the dishes are indeed delicious but the overall price is quite expensive to put simply - Thai food is never cheap in the UK, but this was another level, the prices I would expect to pay in the heart of Central London in a semi-"fancy" restaurant, not Aldgate East. The bill was £125 for the three of us, and we had to pop into another restaurant afterwards, which is not something I can say I've done before 😅.

**Restaurant Review: Som Saa** **Atmosphere:** Som Saa boasts a brilliant atmosphere that sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The ambiance is vibrant and inviting, making it a pleasant spot for both casual and special occasions. **Food Quality:** While the food was generally enjoyable, it did not fully meet expectations. The menu available online differed from what was offered in the restaurant, which was a bit disappointing. The dishes were nice but lacked the punch of flavor that one might hope for. Many of the flavors could have been more potent, enhancing the overall experience. **Highlights:** - The **sea bass** was a standout dish, beautifully prepared and enjoyable. - The **soup**, however, was overly salty, which detracted from its potential. **Comparison with Kolae:** Your sister's experience at Kolae seems to have overshadowed Som Saa. It sounds like Kolae's offerings provided more flavor and a better overall experience. If you found the flavors at Kolae to be more vibrant and satisfying, it’s understandable why you would prefer to spend your money there in the future. **Would You Return?** Based on your experience, it seems that you would not choose to return to Som Saa. Instead, you’d rather enjoy a meal at Kolae, which has left a more positive impression. --- Overall, while Som Saa has its merits, particularly in atmosphere, it may not be the go-to destination for those seeking an exceptional culinary experience.

Bonito ambiente

I’m glad I ordered the papaya salad to share as a starter but it was extremely HOT, we were warned. We were brought some chilled jasmine tea to cool our mouths down, it was very much needed. My husband loved his chicken skewer. The tofu curry was excellent but it needed more vegetables, maybe broccoli. The pork laab was good but again it had a kick to it. We both felt the rice portions were stingy, my husband definitely need more to cool his mouth down with the pork. We shared a delicious coconut and mango rice pudding. Their current menu selections between table set menu (40/ppl) and a la carte menu are not completely overlapping, so at beginning we wanted to order set menu for 2 and a la carte for 1. Their serving process doesn’t allow that, but the manager was very kind to give a complimentary sea bass because that’s what my lady friend wanted.

We had an amazing lunch experience at Som Saa, thanks to our server, Will. He was attentive, friendly, and made excellent recommendations from the menu. We especially appreciated his attention to detail, such as promptly refilling our drinks and ensuring we had everything we needed. As travelers from Canada, we never expected to have such a memorable experience in London, but Will truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we sat down, his warm and attentive service made us feel right at home. We highly recommend asking for Will if you visit!

The restaurant offered a fascinating array of dishes rich in herbs. While some were delightfully flavorful, others were quite unusual with horrible taste. However, the worst part is the slow service. Despite their strict cancellation policy ensuring we arrived promptly for our 8:15 PM reservation, we were asked to sit in a waiting place for 30 minutes before being seated and taken to the table. Then, it took an additional 30 mins before our order was taken, exactly around 9.15pm, significantly delaying our meal.

What a great place! Real authentic food in a very nice setting that transports you back to Thailand. It was not only delicious but also offered different types of food and drinks typical to Thailand. I just loved it and they have a selection menu as well to get a varied options to share and also specials so the menu would never get old if you went back!

The food started 5 star but quickly turned 3! Lemongrass salad was phenomenal. Top notch flavours and textures. The mango salad was just too spicy. Just couldn’t eat even half of it. I can’t imagine this is their regular spice - but they claimed it as such. The yellow green curry was average. The broth was good but the veges didn’t seem to blend in. The pad pak was average too. Veges could have been better cooked. Vegan Dessert tasted too artificial. It was some mango ice cream with sticky rice but it tasted like flavored sorbet. From Bangkok with love was good drink. Siam Slong was average.

Great meal here last night, the miang bpuu starter was incredible, crab wrapped in a leaf - so tasty! It was busy so quite loud, but still fast and friendly service!

excellent dinner and overall experience. I don’t usually indulge in seafood so I’m grateful for the quality and flavour that came through this seabass that restored my faith in the ocean. Though, the green curry was easily the highlight - it was light and delicious with a bit of a welcomed kick to it. The tofu and veges were cooked to perfection and paired beautifully with the curry. Will definitely be heading back.

Incredibly good and authentic Thai food! I just came back from Bangkok and Som Saa really felt like being back there. Highly recommended. I went there yesterday night with my auntie and uncle who are visiting me from Italy and they were impressed by how tasty and quality the food was.

Very tasty Thai restaurant on commercial street, so lots of competition...but this one stands out. I had the set meal with an addition of the sea bass..which is a must. Champagne is expensive, but worth it for a treat. Otherwise ok value. Great service, very knowledgeable and not too intrusive. This is a must visit restaurant.

Overall very good, the setting is very beautiful I told them I'm very sensitive to chili when ordering, then the papaya salad was still very spicy (also for my Chinese friend), but they kindly offered to redo it and afterwards it was perfect! They also had a vegetarian menu you can ask for! (They made the papaya salad vegan)

Good location, good atmosphere and GREAT FOOD! As a person who deeply in love with Thai food I have to say their cuisine is very authentic! I love they seasoned the food with all the Thai herbs so it tastes almost the same as what you could have in Thailand. Everything perfectly cooked and I personally think it is cost efficient considering the quality of food and the whole setup of restaurant.

Second visit and it did not disappoint. Took some friends and all agreed it was delicious and they would return. We had excellent service from our waiter, the meals were mostly superb (stir fry pork was the only outlier but still a 3/5) with the sea bass standing out as usual, followed closely by the incredibly tender braised pork. My friends described the chicken skewers as some of the best they've ever had - and they are discerning customers who do not lightly throw around praise. Was even a big fan of the apricot IPA. Don't hesitate to visit som saa for tasty thai food.

The best meal of 2024 so far. My partner and I tried this place after hearing rave reviews from a couple of his Thai friends who had vouched for its modern twist on traditional dishes with authentic flavours. We were not disappointed. We went for the set lunch menu for 2 with the deep fried sea bass (the star of the show) as an add-on. Every single dish was incredible, and all complemented one another perfectly. Best of all is it was excellent value for money. The set lunch was £35 per person, but I'd have happily paid 50% more, it was that delicious. I cannot wait to go back.

Every dish was WAY too salty, almost to the point of being inedible. The fried sea bass was great, but we couldn't eat any of the salad that came with it because of the saltiness. Same with the chicken skins, the pork neck and the papaya salad. If you're trying to reduce sodium levels and avoid a heart attack, skip this place. Food aside, the waitress was great, and the decor of the restaurant is good. Won't be coming back, however.

I haven't eaten in Brick Lane for over 7 years. I simply avoid it as there are just too many poor eateries there. I must say, we were pleasantly surprised here. The food was very good and took a while to prepare, so probably not pre cooked like most other places. I think we'll return, thank you.

The food was disappointing, very westernised version of Pakistani food, biryani was such a disappointment, it was white rice and curry stir fry, when complained I was told in the UK that's how the biryani is as if I have never eaten biryani before in my life, I was also not thrilled with the chicken karahi, it also lacked flavour, it was more chicken curry and less chicken karahi. The overall experience was unfortunately very disappointing. Shame.. I had high hopes...

Still remember this meal- their sushi and food was awful which is why we never came back here. Was a mistake to place such a large order for a party at a new place. we threw half of it away!
