Fantastic place to have truly unique and authentic Thai food. You can honestly close your eyes and pick any dish in the menu and be genuinely impressed with whatever you get. Incredibly flavourful and creative dishes with incredible attention to detail (honestly the fish dish was unbelievable, better than everything I have tried including in Thailand). Atmosphere and service is top notch too. Of course there's a price tag so consider going to this place for an occasion. But you will not regret it; I was with a party of six incl three Thais, and they all unanimously praised this place.

Fantastic meal at Som Saa. Service was excellent with really friendly staff who were always super attentive. We had the set menu plus the sea bass. Everything was absolutely fantastic but the star of the show had to be the sea bass which was just knock out. Will definitely be going back

Front of house staff and waitress were very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable on the dishes and checked several times on allergies - well trained I thought. The drinks were great and was prompt. The actual food is a little bit disappointing, though. Every single dish including the rice was served lukewarm at best, the rice is served in plastic bags in a bamboo cup, not sure whether for novelty or aesthetic reasons. It was early evening on a weekday, so couldn't say the warm dishes was due to it being peak time. The flavours are great and the dishes are indeed delicious but the overall price is quite expensive to put simply - Thai food is never cheap in the UK, but this was another level, the prices I would expect to pay in the heart of Central London in a semi-"fancy" restaurant, not Aldgate East. The bill was £125 for the three of us, and we had to pop into another restaurant afterwards, which is not something I can say I've done before 😅.

**Restaurant Review: Som Saa** **Atmosphere:** Som Saa boasts a brilliant atmosphere that sets the stage for a delightful dining experience. The ambiance is vibrant and inviting, making it a pleasant spot for both casual and special occasions. **Food Quality:** While the food was generally enjoyable, it did not fully meet expectations. The menu available online differed from what was offered in the restaurant, which was a bit disappointing. The dishes were nice but lacked the punch of flavor that one might hope for. Many of the flavors could have been more potent, enhancing the overall experience. **Highlights:** - The **sea bass** was a standout dish, beautifully prepared and enjoyable. - The **soup**, however, was overly salty, which detracted from its potential. **Comparison with Kolae:** Your sister's experience at Kolae seems to have overshadowed Som Saa. It sounds like Kolae's offerings provided more flavor and a better overall experience. If you found the flavors at Kolae to be more vibrant and satisfying, it’s understandable why you would prefer to spend your money there in the future. **Would You Return?** Based on your experience, it seems that you would not choose to return to Som Saa. Instead, you’d rather enjoy a meal at Kolae, which has left a more positive impression. --- Overall, while Som Saa has its merits, particularly in atmosphere, it may not be the go-to destination for those seeking an exceptional culinary experience.

Bonito ambiente

We had a tasty supper at Som Saa. I did feel my crab starter was overpriced but it was a yummy mouthful. I’m glad I ordered the papaya salad to share as a starter but it was extremely HOT, we were warned. We were brought some chilled jasmine tea to cool our mouths down, it was very much needed. My husband loved his chicken skewer. The tofu curry was excellent but it needed more vegetables, maybe broccoli. The pork laab was good but again it had a kick to it. We both felt the rice portions were stingy, my husband definitely need more to cool his mouth down with the pork. We shared a delicious coconut and mango rice pudding. The service was very good and the small menu had so many other things we’d like to try. We’ll be back.

A nice experience - food is okay. The veg was great but it was unclear how spicy certain dishes are and the pork was very spicy! This could’ve been signposted better on the menu. The service is fantastic, the waitress is knowledgeable about the food and suggestions. Food taste and texture are spot on, just a little too salty for all of us. Our favourite dishes are the sea bass with fresh herbs, the chicken skewers were very tender n aromatic. Our least favourite is the red mullet with turmeric sauce, just bland and found it lost in "translation." Atmosphere is vibrant. Great job as they kept the menu simple, great presentation, with good cocktails too! Love to return again. Keep the salt level down.

An old friend visiting her son in London, i picked this place and it turned out to be a satisfaction to everybody. Their current menu selections between table set menu (40/ppl) and a la carte menu are not completely overlapping, so at beginning we wanted to order set menu for 2 and a la carte for 1. Their serving process doesn’t allow that, but the manager was very kind to give a complimentary sea bass because that’s what my lady friend wanted. Also he managed to have some adjustment so we had the table longer than two hours. Food is definitely amazing. We enjoyed our dinner here.

The restaurant offered a fascinating array of dishes rich in herbs. While some were delightfully flavorful, others were quite unusual with horrible taste. However, the worst part is the slow service. Despite their strict cancellation policy ensuring we arrived promptly for our 8:15 PM reservation, we were asked to sit in a waiting place for 30 minutes before being seated and taken to the table. Then, it took an additional 30 mins before our order was taken, exactly around 9.15pm, significantly delaying our meal.

The food started 5 star but quickly turned 3! Lemongrass salad was phenomenal. Top notch flavours and textures. The mango salad was just too spicy. Just couldn’t eat even half of it. I can’t imagine this is their regular spice - but they claimed it as such. The yellow green curry was average. The broth was good but the veges didn’t seem to blend in. The pad pak was average too. Veges could have been better cooked. Vegan Dessert tasted too artificial. It was some mango ice cream with sticky rice but it tasted like flavored sorbet. From Bangkok with love was good drink. Siam Slong was average.

We had excellent service from our waiter, the meals were mostly superb (stir fry pork was the only outlier but still a 3/5) with the sea bass standing out as usual, followed closely by the incredibly tender braised pork. My friends described the chicken skewers as some of the best they've ever had - and they are discerning customers who do not lightly throw around praise. Was even a big fan of the apricot IPA. The best meal of 2024 so far. My partner and I tried this place after hearing rave reviews from a couple of his Thai friends who had vouched for its modern twist on traditional dishes with authentic flavours. We were not disappointed. We went for the set lunch menu for 2 with the deep fried sea bass (the star of the show) as an add-on. Every single dish was incredible, and all complemented one another perfectly. Best of all is it was excellent value for money. The set lunch was £35 per person, but I'd have happily paid 50% more, it was that delicious. I cannot wait to go back.

Every dish was WAY too salty, almost to the point of being inedible. The fried sea bass was great, but we couldn't eat any of the salad that came with it because of the saltiness. Same with the chicken skins, the pork neck and the papaya salad. If you're trying to reduce sodium levels and avoid a heart attack, skip this place.

A modern thai restaurant in Whitechapel housed in a former fabric warehouse. It already has a reputation for being one of the best Thai restaurants in the city but this is my first visit to this establishment. I am told that som saa has been here since 2016 and had its origins here via a crowdfunding campaign after a successful popup more than a decade ago. It was a midweek evening and the place was bustling. It has a NY city feel with a cosy industrial space feel with distressed brick walls and arches punctuated by dark steel beams. The service was friendly and welcoming on my arrival. The interior space has a welcoming dining bar, a large dining room pocketed by intimate booths. Seating depends on if you are here in a group for a night on the town or for a date and they would not be disappointed. I sat at the bar and the entire space is dotted with Thai tchotchke acquired over the years which is a nice touch. The food is not a typical Thai I am accustomed to in asia but the flavours will not disappoint. My server was well trained and explained the menu and if I was here in a larger group the table menu which offered a wide selection of their menu would have been a good option. I opted for mu parlow ( which is a variation of the Thai street food khao kai moo - a 5 spice egg and braised pork served with rice) and the gaeng phed (red curry)jay with jasmine rice. The flavors are certainly altered to suit the london taste buds. The mu parlow was tender and offered a nice balance of sweet palm sugar, fish sauce and dark soy sauce enhanced with spices. The curry was rich, thick and aromatic and although not typical of a gaeng phed I liked the vegan curry having swapped the usual meat/ seafood for a soya bean which soaks up the curry well and carries its rich flavour. The mean was paired with a lovely glass of rheigau Riesling. I like that you can order half portions in order to try more of the menu which shows a consideration for their diners requests. I enjoyed my meal and will be back the next time i am in the area to try the other plates on the menu. A 4.5+ rating overall ! Wonderful!

The best dishes were the chicken Skewers, the fried fish and the chicken laab (which is also very spicy) but the spice in most dishes hit near the end and is not long lasting.

Having Thai food after a long day at work is amazing. It really comforts me. I went there alone straight from my office to Somsa because I wanted to have a quick dinner after being tired from work. I like the seats next to the bar as they’re so convenient. I go to Somsa quite often, and the food is always amazing. Their staff are super friendly and helpful.

If you are in London and Thai food is your thing, then don't hesitate booking a table. Everything we ordered was full of flavour and the service was on point. If you like a cocktail then the Siam Sling was DELICIOUS 😋

Amazing food! We went on a recommendation and were not disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient, the drinks range was good but the food is something else. The crab starter was divine, but don't share one as they are bite size portions. We had three mains and shared, all were stunning. The slow cooked pork was so tender and the mackerel was lovely too. I will definitely be back next time I'm out in the area.

Went for lunch with my husband, I am vegan and GF and we decided both to have set menu, my husband is not vegan. When food arrived, we didn’t see any prawns and asked, and being told that my husband will get the same as me, all vegan except one beef dish. They never explained this will happen, in this case we would have a la cart. Regarding food it was nice, but not memorable, only one dish left good impression Tofu with lotus root. The Sticky rice was completely inedible, like plastic, so, we returned it back into its bag and left in a basket it came in. Mango salad didn’t have any taste, except chilli. So, up to you whether to visit this place, we won’t.

Very friendly restaurant from the moment we arrived. We loved how we were taken through the menu as it was our first visit and advised of all of the ingredients in the specials for the day. We tried the sea bream, monkfish, papaya spicy salad and soup followed by the salted caramel ice cream. I have to say since returning from Thailand this is the nearest in taste I have had in the UK. Our mouths afterwards were tingling and so much so didn’t want to eat anything that night so as to prolong the taste from earlier. We had a lovely afternoon and thank you for the Thai fudge, which was a lovely surprise.

The restaurant is located not far from Canary wharf. If you are having a day out around here, this is a great place for some Chinese food. There is a lunch deal on working day. For £16, you’ll have a appetiser and a main, with no service charge. I ordered a salt and pepper pork chop rice. The pop chop are fried to a perfect texture soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. They go so well with the rice. I also ordered a Vietnamese spring roll for my side. Three spring rolls in a plate. there are minced pork and dry shrimps and glass noodles in the spring roast. There is a vegetarian version of the spring roll. The restaurant is spacious and the seatings are comfortable. The staff is very helpful and they are very friendly. The decoration in the restaurant is very Chinesey, just nice ambience there. It would be even better if the portion is bigger.

I was exploring my tastecard options and found this restaurant and thought I’d give it a go, as I am a fan of Bangladeshi food, but it was a shambles. I showed them my tastecard discount, but they said they couldn’t verify it (?) they then said they’d provide the 50% discount anyway, and so I ordered a meal which was around £32 total. After I finished my meal, they said the bill was too low for the discount to be valid (there was no guidance of any minimum price on the discount). That’s fine, what’s next? I pay the bill and leave the restaurant and moments later I see that the bill is £40 on the receipt!

Still remember this meal- their sushi and food was awful which is why we never came back here. Was a mistake to place such a large order for a party at a new place. we threw half of it away!
