Great food and considerate services.

I have been coming to som saa for many years, and the "a la carte" menu is great. However, today I went with colleagues for dinner, and we had the set menu - it was disappointing. Where do I start: 1. The set menu is not very exciting. I asked if we could do "a la carte", and keep it simple, so it's easy for the kitchen. They said that's not possible, and we have to do like the other tables. Which I found a bit rude. We asked if we could change some of the dishes to make it more exciting, and they said no again. 2. Only one of the dishes had protein - a prawn curry, so not very filling. By the end of the dinner, we were still hungry. 3. One person in the group doesn't eat prawns. We asked if we could replace it for chicken or pork, and they told us that in that case, we had to choose the vegan set menu. A bit ridiculous I find this inflexibility uncommon in restaurants in London. Overall, we paid around £65 per person (including drinks) and it doesn't feel we got a good value for money.

Phenomenal service from Amy thisevening. She was so attentive and we felt very looked after. A hospitality diamond. Food was top tier. Fried chicken laab, green curry and palm sugar icecream were highlights but everything was superb. This place was recommended to me and I will be recommending to pals.

We had our anniversary dinner here last night and it was just amazing! Staff were so attentive but not overpowering, food was INCREDIBLE and the atmosphere was very chilled with the tables not being too close together. The dishes we shared were very spicy (we were warned) - but the flavour just kept us eating more and more. We will definitely be returning and recommending this place to friends. We had their recommended set lunch menu which offered a very well balanced , tasty and interesting meal. The food was delicious, a herby salad , not as spicy as a papaya salad but with all the right Thai taste notes you want. Service was on point, friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a try.

We came to Som Saa again completely by chance and on a whim and once again we didn't regret it. We are very Asian-oriented when it comes to food and Thai is one of our favorites anyway. Nevertheless, we were very surprised here because some of the dishes were very unusual and we had never had anything like that before. The whole menu didn't read like our Thais at home. The som tam (papaya salad) and the chicken skewers were quite normal. Normal in the sense of: we've had this before and it was familiar to us in some way or another. The third starter was a (raw) sea bream salad - very unusual but also extremely good - and then the main courses: red beef curry and coconut cream with fermented pork, shrimp and vegetables. These two are not standard at all but very unusual but also very tasty. For dessert we had salted palm sugar ice cream with a fried banana. Not my taste but my wife was thrilled. Even though we were there twenty minutes before the actual opening, we were allowed in to a table and didn't have to wait outside the door. All in all, it was once again a stroke of luck for us to find this great restaurant. Highly recommended!

The food is delicious, I don’t know why but the staff asked me if I wanted drinks something like 4 times but it’s okay. It was all good when I asked for another starter after my main because I was particularly hungry while my partner was ordering dessert, someone from the staff took the order and looked at me in a pretty judgmental way, I also asked my partner who noticed it as well if it is that “wrong”… ? I am actually sorry but in hospitality is like this the server wasn’t even “new” but probably kind of supervising.. I don’t know. Shame…

It’s always a pleasure coming back to eat at Som Saa. The cuisine is distinctive, fresh and different than your standard Thai. The cocktails are also a must to accompany the spicy food. Staff friendly and professional. Great ambience, east London vibe :)

Amazing food, amazing service and drinks and pretty well priced if you’re looking for a treat that won’t disappoint. We had all vegan food from the vegan menu and not only were the vegan options exceptional but creative. Dessert also amazing. We overran on our table but they found us a place at the bar to finish our dessert- if you’re on the fence, definitely go here!

I went without a reservation and had to eat within an hour, so I ate really quickly, but the food was delicious and the service and atmosphere were good. We recommend that you make a reservation.

Friendly staff, great cocktails, great food!

The deep fried sea bass was my highlight, and Thai milk tea. One thing I wanted to mention that the staff was very attentive maybe the manager. Our table was a little bit shaky, he noticed that and came to fix it. ✨

I liked the decor - welcoming and warm. Authentic to former warehouse with unplastered walls. Service excellent and ingredients were fresh and good quality. Loved the sea bass and the salad. Not bad value either.

We had the set menu with the seabass, which was absolutely delightful - cooked to perfection. The only suggestion I have would be not to bring all the hot dishes at the same time, as they end up getting cold unless you can eat at the speed of light. Service was very good too.

Service was lost, food way to spicy at the point of losing taste completely. I believe the 5 star critics are fake. Ruined one of our nights in London. Keep away.

Extremely delighted with my lunch experience at Som Spa today. Will, our waiter, recommended us excellent dishes and he also gave us two Thai tea fudge (which was heavenly and melt-in-the-mouth) to round up our meal. The food here is well spiced, so if you’re into the piquant side, you will love this. Gai Ping Pak Dtai (Chicken Skewer) Wonderful grilled chicken, juicy and perfectly roasted with a tasty sauce made of tamarind. Daily Som Tam (Papaya Salad) This is an odyssey on your tastebuds. The tart, fresh crunch of shaved young papayas, green beans, and cherry tomatoes dances with the sour and extremely hot fish sauce, whose flavours are drawn out by the dried prawns. It is extremely piquant though, so be wary. Gaeng Paed Neua (Red Curry Beef) Delicious curry stew with red hot oil and tender slices of beef. The vegetables and herbs used make the dish much more complex than I expected. Nahm Tok Pla Thort (Isaan Fried Seabass) Now this is the star of the meal. Crispy, well seasoned fried fish (which small bones can be eaten) married with a delightful waltz of herbs and fresh shallots. On top of rice, I assure you this is one of those bites you will remember for a long long time. Kanom Khao Mak (Rice Custard) A soft, boozy rice pudding (due to the slight fermentation) that is elevated with the sweet melancholy of coconut and longans. A seed cracker in the shape of lotus provides a smokiness and crunch that compliments the pudding.

Pleasently surprised, the menu is not your normal high street Thai food like Penang or green Thai curry. Most I haven't heard of. The vegetarian menu was the best for me though I'm a consummate carnivore. We had the set menu for a company function. Would totally come back with the family.

I had the pleasure and fortune of visiting Som Saa for lunch yesterday and had hands down, the best Thai food outside of Thailand ever !! I woke up this morning still buzzing from the food ! Chef Lion and his team’s execution is exceptional !! I’m really struggling to find words to explain how good the food was cos the words I can think of are just not good enough. The food is amazing, service was 10/10 and even though unfortunately we arrived just before last orders, they were super accommodating. The 2 waiting staff who attended to our table ( sorry I didn’t catch your names ) were really friendly and professional. Top top experience!! Can’t wait to come back and try everything on the menu !

Full drinks menu but I always stick to a classic Singha beer. 🍺 Check this place out! It’s totally worth it. If you like Thai, you’ll love som saa!

TL;DR: Upscale venue; above average food; expect to spend 20-30/person without alcohol Upscale thai food in a modern atmosphere. On the server's recommendation I tried the pad pak, the gaeng baa neua kwang (red curry), and sticky rice. The flavor of the broth in the pad pak was one of the best things I have eaten in a while. The red curry while pleasently spicy but not as flavorful as other red curries I have had.

It amazes me how this place went from being one of my favorites to being one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had! My boyfriend got a reservation for us to celebrate my birthday and the staff and restaurant atmosphere was simply stressful. They treated us poorly when made a request about changing table, everything felt rushed, the food was not that incredible, and they literally dropped the desert with a candle in the table, said happy birthday as if they hated me and went away so quickly that the candle almost turned off the same moment. Absolutely never coming back! Would never want to have a bill of almost 100 pounds to be treated like they're doing me a favour. -9 would be my score.

This is an authentic Thai cuisine restaurant. There are different menus every day where you can taste the authentic food, but the taste is spicy. The waiters are very friendly, and the non-alcoholic mocktails are also very exquisite and layered.

The food experience was disappointing overall. While the menu offers limited choices with set courses, the prices are steep, with a charge of £45 per person for mainly sides, and an additional £20.5 for sea bass. The portion sizes were inadequate, such as the green Thai curry served in one bowl for three people, each paying £45. The prawn green Thai curry contained only six prawns, lacked flavor, and was excessively oily. I wouldn't advise larger groups to dine here, as you're not allowed to select your preferred dishes. In summary, the whole dining experience felt like daylight robbery.

On Mother's Day, my family and I visited this restaurant. We were greeted with excellent service from the staff, and the ambiance was delightful. The food was delicious, the only thing was the menu that day was limited I think so other food items I had seen on there social media wasn’t being served on that day. Overall, I had a pleasant experience :-)

It had been a while since our last visit at Som Saa and we’re happy to see the food is still incredible, along with everything else that makes the restaurant what it is. We really enjoyed the night -an early Mother’s Day celebration-, our waiter Will was so friendly, polite and helpful! Went once before and initially didn’t have a positive experience despite how many friends recommended this restaurant to me, but I’m so glad I gave it another go. The food was absolutely divine and so fresh and packed with all those complex Thai flavours. More than anything though the staff and manager were so kind and professional, and the service was top notch efficient. I have now put this restaurant firmly in my London favourites list.

Honestly the best thai spot in London - no exaggeration. From a guy who’s been Thailand multiple times it brought me back to the restaurants in the rural towns. Service is beyond amazing as well and make sure you leave space for dessert (I regret not doing so)

The lady who served us did not even have a look at me when explaining the menu and asking further options. Constantly interrupting our conversation. She really needs to get retrained. One of the foods came out so late.

Food was very disappointing (especially given the price). Only one of the 7/8 things we ordered were really nice, the rest were just a bit bland / plain. (Definitely didn’t taste like food in thai!) A nice spot for lunch im sure, but overall i was disappointed in our dinner.

I had a great experience at Som Saa over dinner with my friend! The ambience is really warm and cosy. We ordered only a couple of dishes and they were delicious and well-balanced. The portion size was also sufficient. The hospitality and service was absolutely fantastic. A big shout out to Saverio who was really lovely and explained the various selections on the menu patiently yet passionately and also checked on us through our dinner. Would love to visit again!

On 2/6/18 we visit a very cool and trendy Thai Restaurant called 'Som Saa' in Aldgate, London. First impression was fantastic customer service and we really like the interior design. The bricks textures of the wall goes well with green color from a variety of indoor ornamental plants. The bar look awesome! If you have been to Thailand before and are familiar with our regional Thai dishes such as Gang Hung Lae (Chiangmai' Pork Belly curry)or even Somtam Pla Raa (Papaya Salad with fermented fish sauce) etc., check this place out. They all taste very fantastic and reminded us of Thailand. (We are three Thai expats) Although they serve a small menus but those are very authentic Thai dishes, I can guarantee (not a westernized Thai food at all) and they make very nice cocktails too. LOVE LOVE LOVE. And their beef jerky is sublime!!! Food, atmostphere and service were brilliant! Staff are super friendly. I highly recommend it to everyone. 20 Feb 24 Visit Had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic!!!. Staff were exceptionally professional with a friendly service. We sat at Table 36 . We would like to acknowledge her outstanding customer service.

Took me six months but happy to have had the possibility to come back at Som Saa. I enjoyed again an amazing cocktail from the bar and had some really nice dishes! I also really enjoy the possibility of getting half of a portion as this allows me to try more of what they proposed in their menu. In case you are around London and you want to try a nice Thai I definitely recommend! Enjoy it for me to that unfortunately I don’t live in London and I manage to come just when work brings me back!

Stopped here for lunch with a friend on a Sunday stroll through Spitalfields. The food and customer service is exceptional. We were blown away by the big flavours and amount of food. Really delicious. The customer service was a perfect balance of ever present and very discreet. We were thrilled and would happily eat there again. The pricing was normal for a central London location.

Also, keine Unterteilung mehr nach Vorspeise und Hauptgericht. Nur noch der Nachtisch kommt extra und am Ende.

What an amazing experience. The food was an explosion of flavours!it definitely brought back great memories from my time in South East Asia. Service was on point and seamless. Special compliments to Aurora for ensuring that we were looked after well! We are definitely coming back again soon.

The fish are all dead, and the smell of frying masks the smell. Only stir-fried vegetables and desserts are better. Low cost performance

Great taste, price seemed decent for London, friendly service, reasonable portions, would come again. Tried the vegetarian set menu, and all the dishes had good texture and taste. Sauces had strong enough flavours to make the dishes delicious even though everything was vegetable based. Price seemed reasonable but I'm not local. Would come again.

What a find. To anyone reading this who’s hesitating I recommend to make your reservation now. I love Thai food and this was my first visit back to London in a while. Did a quick google search and didn’t look further than Som Saa. The menu is refreshing and we chose the chef’s menu of the day. Honestly the best Thai food I’ve had the pleasure to taste in a very long time. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

The most incredible restaurant. Som saa was recommended by a friend and I am very grateful for them! The service and staff were great. Everything came out very quickly! My favourite dish was the braised pork which was just absolutely insane. Couldn't recommend eating here more! I would suggest booking in advance as they get very busy for obvious reasons!

Hadn't been here for a few years and there's a chance it's got even better in that time - super punchy flavours, every dish was so tasty, and the palm sugar ice cream and caramelized banana at the end to finish off was perfection. Will return again and won't hesitate to recommend.

As a thai food lover, this place was incredibly nice, the atmosphere it’s very traditional and brings u back i Thailand, the service was amazing super fast and professional from our waitress and the manager Davide which gave us all the information about the food and explained professionally all our curiosities about the menu , last but not least the food. The food was simply amazing, I think the salads took my heart, i could eat 100 of them fresh, crunchy, sweet&sour and spicy balanced perfectly, the chicken skewers always incredibly tender and the curry’s specially the vegetarian one were soo tasty and creamy. The dessert was shocking, salted palm sugar ice cream with a glazed banana with sesame seeds and was the perfect way to close the night so good so unique. Highly recommend, Will come back for sure!!!!

Amazing food . Be ready for the spice

If you want an exceptional cuilinary experience of authentic (really authentic) Thai food, you will not be disappointed with Som Saa. We have been there many times over the past 3 years, and have had a fantastic meal, every time. The flavours are intense and bold, and when they say something is spicy, take that to heart. I'd have Som Saa as my last meal if I could.

The dishes we ordered taste well. However, the fried chicken skin has been served cold. The coconut curry(which is not hoy at all) has hidden super hot chili in the sauce. Wierd music in the gentlemen's room. Banana ice cream is good.

The food was impeccable, highlights were the the fish (of course), the the pork neck and papaya salad. Great service as well, the staff were very attentive and overall we had a great meal.

I visited after making a reservation for Sunday evening. The service from the staff was excellent—they provided detailed explanations for each dish. One thing I found disappointing was that green curry was only included in the set menu, and I couldn't order it separately. It would be great if they could broaden the menu choices. The seabass and chicken skewers were undeniably outstanding.

I ordered the seabass and sticky rice for mains. loved the various flavours, it was tangy and chilli. Lively atmosphere. Dietary: Some of the meat in the menu is halal, just need to ask and they’ll let you know which ones are. I did order the chicken last time and it was also good.

One of my favourite Thai place in central London. Food is well done and very flavourful. It is authentic with some contemporary twist. Chicken skewers are very delicious and their papaya salad (typically an off menu) is very authentic and it hits with the right level of spiciness and flavour. The deep fried seabass is very good too, and it all goes very well with some rice. Staff is very friendly and helpful with the menu if you are a first timers. Overall, highly recommended.

Great Thai food - especially the fish!

Possibly the best Thai food I’ve had in London so far - sea bass was the standout dish, so many interesting flavours. Red jungle venison curry was also lovely, could have had more meat but flavour was excellent. Chicken skewers also great, very juicy and tender. Didn’t manage to book a reservation on the website but thankfully still got window seats at the front. Was busy, (Friday night) but not too noisy. Service was attentive and friendly.

We had Christmas party in there for 30 people and all of the dishes were great and served well. Lovely vibe in the restaurant and the cocktails served made everybody so happy. Will be back with a smaller group for the sea bass and prawns dishes.

Your place is next level impressive. It has been a while since we have had seen such attentive team, they were on point, over the top amazing! So happy that we came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food was great, all preferences were correctly addressed and those drinks were absolutely a cherry on top! Sorry didn't ask the names but the host over the phone, our server and I think she was manager who was so patiently listening to our requests and addressed every bit of it- a special thanks to you 3 lovely ladies!
