Attended through work as part of a management day. When we arrived there were croissants and pain au chocolate which were yummy. We also got a 3 course Christmas dinner. Parsnip soup - lovely. I had turkey for mains. It came with sprouts, stuffing, roast potatoes and parsnips. One thing I didn't like was that the gravy was already on the meal. I like to add my own gravy. Desert was chocolate and orange tart which I didn't enjoy as the chocolate was very dark and bitter - but that's a personal taste. Overall enjoyed the meal and the day.

Came to Solberge for Afternoon Tea which we had been gifted. Venue and grounds are beautiful, lovely having a stroll around afterwards. Service was a little lapsy daisy, didn't feel overly special and took a while to get the food considering we were only one of three tables in the venue. Food was nice- sandwiches and cakes were okay, some of the cakes tasted bought in which was a shame but there was a good choice of options. But for us the scones were the highlight, served warm with generous amounts of clotted cream. Would come back just for the views and grounds.

We choose this venue for our wedding on the 5th April 2023 as we have had quite a few visits in the past with overnight stays. We were not disappointed, the whole experience from meeting Lauren the events manager, to the lady on reception, the two gentlemen, John and Connor, the lady who servered a pot of tea, the lady who cleaned our room with such cleanliness and certainly not last the amazing Chef who produced the amazing afternoon Tea and the evening meals. Even the gentleman who did the garden was so friendly. There was not one thing we could fault. Thier friendliness, proffesional attitude, knowledge and wiliness to oblige with anything we ask was absolutely amazing. I could write endless points of praise but we would always recommend the Hotel as you won't find anything to complain about and will always have a brilliant visit what ever the occasion. We both say such a BIG THANK YOU to everyone for a WONDERFUL Wedding Day. Tug & Linda

There was so much wrong with the Christmas function I have just attended: - on a cold December day the room was unheated, many attending sat with coats or scarves on. For my main course I had the Christmas dinner: three slices of the most tasteless turkey I've ever eaten (and I love turkey!), 2 potatoes, 2 pieces parsnip, 4 Brussel sprouts and a spoon of mashed carrots, a dried out pig in a blanket and a cube of something I took to be stuffing. Very disappointing. After a long, long wait (well over 30 minutes) dessert arrived, my panacotta (and others) had collapsed in a puddle, as it was served on a hot dinner plate, accompanied by some defrosted (therefore soggy!) frozen summer fruits (from Tescos I think!). The wait for coffee was so long that most guests had left before the coffee cups and saucers were finally fetched out, we then had to serve ourselves - I felt that they were hoping we'd have forgotten that coffee was included! Very short staffed, unprepared and a totally underwhelming experience. I will not be attending a function there again - they just can't cope!

2 staff on duty. Poor standard of cleanliness and run down . Breakfast was delivered in a bag supposed to be a continental breakfast. We had to stay another night, in rooms that were not cleaned and we were charged full price. The manager even rang after to chase payment that had already been paid. Very poor value for money. Will never return.

We stayed here as a weekend stay to see family and visit Whitby on the motorbike. I can say that the staff and service made the weekend even better than we thought it would be. The atmosphere in the hotel is lovely, and the grounds and hotel are a joy to be in. The room we had was a little small, but was OK. But - the restaurant! Oh my word, we were so happy that we decided to not go to Northallerton for the Sat night after a long day. 3 course meal that was beautiful and reasonably priced! The lamb - fantastic. Thanks to all the staff and the chef!!

We were lucky to be given a voucher for Deluxe Afternoon Tea. We arrived to an almost empty car park, which didn't bode well. We weren't shown to a table, just pointed to the room where we were to have our tea and told that we were the only ones there. The room had no atmosphere and no proper view outside. (previously used tables had also not been cleared) We were brought tea and coffee almost straight away although not asked at any time if we wanted refills. Sandwiches and cakes were lovely although the scones were quite dry. Nobody at any time came and asked if everything was all right. When we went to hand over the voucher and leave the girl was too busy chatting outside. It should have been a lovely experience but we were really disappointed and unfortunately will not return or recommend.

We stayed here on a summer deal for one night where we got a cream tea, dinner and breakfast included. The building and grounds are nice and the staff are all very friendly but there were just a few small things that let it down..Outside the chairs were very scattered and it was obvious the grounds hadn’t been cleaned properly from a previous event as there was litter everywhere. Our room was nice, but was showing lots of wear and tear such as stains on the carpet, ceiling, furniture and the bathroom mirror light not working. Unfortunately the worst thing for us was dinner, we were served our starters before our drinks order was taken and we found all the courses completely tasteless. My husband ordered the cheese selection for dessert but they had ran out of most of them. However we did find the cream tea and breakfast to be really nice. They play the same playlist of about 10 songs on repeat all day from breakfast through to after dinner so if I hear Tom Odell ‘Real Love’ or Justin Timberlake ‘Senorita’ again I’m going to scream!

Lovely staff, from the person taking the telephone reservation, the young lady on reception and our waitress. All very friendly. Glass of champagne was brought first whilst we waited for our sandwiches and cakes. Large pot of tea came next. Then the goodies. Selection of sandwiches, cream and jam scones, mini cakes, strawberries dipped in chocolate, lemon posset. Couldn’t manage to eat all the cakes so took them home. Window table overlooking the terrace was bathed in sunlight and had lovely views of the hills in the distance. Not very busy for a Saturday afternoon but this was perfect for my friend and I who wanted a catch up, somewhere quiet and relaxing. Solberge provided this. Will definitely go back .

We were welcomed by Gaye, our waitress who was lovely and very attentive. The room where we were seated was lovely with a view over the grounds. We got a large pot of tea, and waited about 15 minutes for the afternoon tea to be served, which was fine. My wife ordered different sandwiches to me, one being Ham and Piccalilli (I hate piccalilli with a passion), but the chef had cut my sandwiches with the knife he had used for my wifes, and my beef sandwich ended up tasting of piccalilli. We told the waitress and she got them replaced, but this is a rookie mistake and shouldn't happen in such an upmarket venue. The scones were average as were the puddings/sweets. It was ok but we wouldn't rush back.

We came here for afternoon tea and were expecting a smaller scale version of Swinton Park, near Masham. How wrong we were! With regard to the ambience, we were expecting a higher end hotel that had a sumptuous and cosy country house style. With a little thought, time and effort, it could easily be that. It doesn't cost a lot these days to buy a few nice antiques and artwork that would suit the type of building it is much more, rather than obviously cheap prints and soft furnishings.

We have stayed and called into Solberge Hall Hotel for lunch many times and have been very happy with the hotel and the restaurant. We were travelling home from Derby and wanted to call somewhere for lunch, we stopped at Solberge hall as we had done so many times previously. There was no-one on reception so we walked to the bar and there was no person behind the bar. My husband and I walked around to try and find someone to serve us. A person working in the back office said they would send a person to serve us. After 10-20 minutes two men in suits appeared in the bar area, they may have been management, they just ignored us and went out again. After a further five minutes we gave up and headed home. This experience has totally put us off calling or staying at Solberge Hall Hotel.

I was in the restaurant for a family wedding anniversary meal & in my opinion the food standard was poor. I noticed that the beef meals were very fatty, there were no GF bread buns issued, the ice cream with some of the desserts was minimal & some of the salmon main course meals did not have any sauce which had to be requested. And finally I had some very bad diarrhoea during the night which was obviously caused by the poor food standard.

Would have liked a wider choice of wines by the glass as being non resident we had to drive. Would also like the staff to be better aware of placing couples at tables - having someone seated next to you in a virtually empty dining room can be a conversation stopper. After attending many lovely weddings here we decided to book in for Mother's Day Lunch as a party of 10. The service was incredibly slow which was odd as there wasn't many other diners and there seemed to be a lot of staff not doing a lot. The food was average (it had been much better at the weddings), many of us had cheese for dessert which was stated to come with chutney and others accompaniments however it was just cheese and biscuits and it wasn't even the type of cheese it was meant to be! The mothers were meant to receive flowers and no one was offered these however some other tables had received there's.Overall it was a really poor overpriced lunch with lots of little things that weren't right (such as no serving spoons).

A very nice small hotel in a quiet location. We were given a very good room with a separate room for our daughter and the bathroom was smart and an excellent size.We were on a b&b deal . On the first morning the breakfast was poor but a real improvement on the second morning. The staff were friendly which is always good.Overall the hotel is very nice and worth a visit although it would be fair to say that they need to improve on a few minor details . The bar staff need more basic training (not knowing how to make a JD and coke ?). There were issues with the original booking. The food was not poor the first day , much better the second . The coffee machine was not even turned on at 10.30 am !. Both mornings they were not ready for us and had to place two together which is poor practice .Admittedly these are small things but when you are looking to run a good efficient high standard hotel they really matter.

We were travelling to Northumberland and chose to stop off at the Solberge hall hotel for 1 night. I chose the deal from secret escapes and it was very good price wise, including afternoon tea on arrival, 2 course evening meal and bed and breakfast. The hall is beautiful and when you drive up the landscape and building are impressive. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming, showing us to our room and saying where we would be served afternoon tea when we were ready. Our room was lovely, well it was a series of rooms with 3 large windows showing off the stunning views. Clean and as expected for a very old building of this nature. The afternoon tea was served in the drawing room, this is the only room that needed attention decor wise but it was lovely and you must take into account the age of the building that you staying in. Service was great, very professional and lovely sandwiches, cake and scones. Really enjoyed it. The meal in the evening was served in the restaurant, light and airy with views across the garden and hills beyond. Again lovely friendly and efficient staff. Food was of an excellent standard, far exceeding our expectations. My husband had the asparagus followed by the sea bass. I had the soup followed by the arancini. We were a family of four and all shared the same opinion that the staff looked the part but were poorly trained, inattentive and the food was average and uninspired. Not helped of course by being small in portion and overpriced. Having attended Solberge for dinner, we were greeted at the table and handed some menu's which we found on discussing them between us, that one of them was completely missing pages and ours were falling apart because of missing staples. The food order was taken and it arrived promptly. The portion size and quality of the food was poor to average, not what you would expect from Solberge Hall. I wanted some more biscuits to go with my cheese board, but was unable to catch the eye of any of the waiting staff who clearly seemed intent on getting in and out of the room as quickly as possible and never once checked on any of the tables. We were never asked if we required any further drinks and were served two coffees at a time. The first two were cold and again as we were unable to attract the attention of any staff members had to go up to the bar, to resolve the situation. Eventually two replacement coffees appeared and the old ones were left sitting on the table. Not an experience I am willing to repeat i'm afraid.

We've been going to Solberge for years however had not visited in the last few months. Apparently now owned by a management group - Classic Lodges. The difference is immediately noticeable. The staff, while very cheerful, are not quite to the same level as before. Some of the furniture pieces look worse for wear. Amenities have been slightly reduced; lower quality toiletries, only one bar of soap, no washcloth... It seems as though the wedding business is their primary interest. Still a 'nice place' however not quite as special - the personality is moving from unique to bland.

We stayed here for two nights and have to say we had a wonderful stay. Our room was in the courtyard block and was large, warm and well appointed. The first night we decided to eat in the restaurant and the food and service was second to none hence our decision to eat in again on the second night. Unfortunately the service was not quite as good then. We had booked our table for 7pm and went down to the lounge for a drink early. Although two other couples in the lounge were attended to with drinks and menus for some reason we were ignored and only when my husband went to reception to enquire if we could order drinks did someone come to us. We ordered the steak and both my husband and I agreed it was the best steak we had ever had. The chef is outstanding. Again a slight blip as we felt slightly ignored in the restaurant too as we were left for 45 minutes after finishing our main course before the plates were removed and a further 15 minutes before the waiter returned to take our order for dessert. However, this did not really dim our pleasure in staying here and I am being a bit picky because the standard was so high on our first night. We will definitely try out the other hotels in the group and return to Solberge Hall again.

We are regular visitors to Grinkle Park hotel and Solberge Hall is a recent addition to the group. A nice building and greeted by a very friendly receptionist. It was a quiet evening and we soon found our room, we paid for an upgrade and the room was good, though clearly recently painted as we certainly had the smell of paint. Little things missing like a full length mirror, luggage rack - the bathroom was literally downstairs from the room which was different but good. The shower I am afraid lacked any power and was very poor - expect far better in a quality hotel. The carpets in the corridors need attention and certainly thread bare The food, well this really was excellent and well worth the visit, this included the service - we had an evening meal included in the price and the menu was extensive and all dishes ordered cooked and served to a high standard. Breakfast was equally as nice though the table of cereals and fruit juices needed restocking and had to ask or glasses and bowls.Certainly worthy of a visit, and hopefully as the hotel is further upgraded into the group it will iron out some of the minor issues. We will certainly try it again

We both enjoyed a fantastic three course dinner, I had lamb and it was outstanding with great flavour and my partner had sea bass which was also fantastic. The dining room is very very pleasant and quite romantic, the service was undoubtedly second to none and all this at a very reasonable price

Spent the night here yesterday, the hotel is in a grey location and very quiet and secluded.Checking in was a bit painful trying to find our room was a challenging affair and had to back do reception twice to get it sorted. The room we stayed in was certainly and hot with no air-con so it was an uncomfortable night. The value for money was not good for what we paid s the room if I'm honest. The wedding was very well organized and ran smoothly. Bar was under staffed during he day with queues which wasn't a great experience. The breakfast on the morning was probably the worst experience, no places set and we had to ask for one setup, there wasn't a full choice of food available and of average quality that said the meal on the actual day was excellent id go as far as saying exceptional just a shame a few things spoiled the trip but I still think it's worth a solid 4

Average seems a little low to give this restaurant having really enjoyed my main course lamb rump however whilst there were good bits there were some low points. The scallop starter was more of an amuse bouche than a course. Although tasty, 1 scallop and a small slither of chicken disappeared in 1 mouthful. The main was a good choice although presenting whole carrots standing upright does mean they go cold quickly. I opted for the cheese selection which was very enjoyable and actually the portion was just right. Some of my colleagues felt the portions were a little mean too and maybe a few more smiles from the waiting staff would have helped. All in all a good meal and I would return but maybe I'd choose a more substantial option

Visited here on 15th June when visiting the Northallerton area, with my attention having been brought to this venue by the AA Restaurant Guide. I was impressed by the whole experience and had a really nice dinner for £25 for 2 courses from a set menu (as nothing took my fancy for desserts - which would have taken it to £32 for 3 courses).Solberge Hall itself is a nice venue and walked around the grounds first before sitting down for dinner. I was impressed by the service and they were very attentive to my needs. The quality of the food matched both the location and the level of service and I would definitely look to go back again if I lived in the area. Chose a scorched line caught mackerel with spinach, lobster tortellini and bisque as a starter (my only wish was that there was more of it due to being so tasty). The main of pork fillet, braised cheek, apple puree, crackling, scratchings, glazed carrots and a cider reduction was also highly impressive. I would seek this venue out if looking for somewhere really decent to eat within the Northallerton area.

We visited Solberge Hall Hotel for the Carvery meal on Mothers Day. It is a lovely venue and the Staff were very professional. I appreciated seeing waiters wearing white gloves when serving plates. The Carvery was as good as any we have had and Mum was delighted with the meal. I loved the lightly cooked veg and the fact that my plate wasn't overloaded. However, a previous reviewer, dining on the same day, was clearly of the opposite opinion. I think Carvery meals generally struggle to meet the varying demands of individual diners. However, for the price, we thought it was a lovely treat. We would definitely return here on another occasion to eat in their main restaurant, as we felt there were enough special touches, such as the complimentary gift for Mums and the pleasing service, to make a return visit when next in the area.

The staff were friendly and helpful upon arrival and we were soon seated in the large function room at the rear of the hotel. It had been nicely decorated and the tables were well spaced and beautifully laid. There was a waiting jug of water and complementary potted flowers for the mother's in the group. So far so good. The service was fine and then the starters arrived. The portions were meagre but the food tasty enough. Having completed the first course we moved to the carvery. I had a slice of beef and ham, which was tasty, but with no option for more. But the worst part was the dreary, undercooked vegetables. The total portion size was equivalent to a child's helping. The gravy was flavourless which added to the disappointment. My crumble desert was good but the amount of custard wouldn't have filled an egg cup. In summary: nice surroundings, poor food and meagre portions. Gave it go but wouldn't go back.

We arrived for Sunday Lunch today and didn't know if we would be coming back, we left after Sunday lunch knowing we will come back. Lovely dining room with a very good traditional Sunday lunch with options on the menu for everybody. Quality ingredients cooked very well, but the crowning glory were the levels of customer service we experienced, caring and considerate without being overpowering. Mirabella is the perfect host and will go a long way in this business.... super day and can't wait to go back.... it wont be long.

a friend and I wanted a quiet, pleasant moment or two, away from the daily noise on a Sunday afternoon, so chose the Solberge Hall hotel. The receptionist greeted us happily and we were soon settled comfortably in the warm lounge next to the big ol' Christmas tree. Between us we enjoyed a pot of coffee (with cream) and a long latte served in a tall glass. This came with a small square bite of ginger cake and a shortbread. What peace!

visiting the restaurant in this hotel was like stepping back in time. we were greeted and shown to our table, asked if it would do and moved to the lounge when we said we were waiting for our friends to arrive all in a smooth, nothing is too much trouble kind of way. could they take our coats they asked - something unheard of these days when often its almost too much trouble for the waiter/tress to ask for your order! the staff here are all very polite and efficient but friendly too.the hotel is lovely and old but well kept, sumtuous drapes and stylish seating in the lounge added to the general feeling of being on a film set.we were there for sunday lunch and two of us had 28 day matured sirlion of beef with all the trimmings whilst our 2 companions had a wild mushroom risotto, both were really tasty and beautifully cooked. only gripe ... as usual there was very limited and 'same as everywhere else' choice for vegetarians. which is why i have marked it down on the food section.deserts, blackberry crumble/homemade icecream and passionfruit cheese cake with sour berries and chantilly cream, were both scrumtious and obviously not out of a box. 1 of us had a very tasty and generous cheese board which unusually we did not have to pay a supplement for well done Solberge Hall. best of all you can use the Tastecard here so we ate for half price although i must say even at full price, £16.95 for two courses, it was well worth it.

We ate dinner here on Sunday evening 12/10/14 and had a faultless experience. Pre-dinner drinks were served in a lounge which last time we visited was a bar - what an improvement. Our meals and wine were ordered and we were conducted to our table when they were ready. The service was first rate, the food and wine delicious and delightfully served, just a really lovely evening.

I reviewed this restaurant 3 years ago when it was under different management and was not very impressed. The new team which has been in for less than a year are doing a good job. Solberg Hall is I a wonderful location with au some views over North Yorkshire. The reception staff were friendly and very helping in providing wheelchair ramps for my friend. The bar an was also friendly and knowledgable about the wines and drinks. The front of house is now orchestrated by Fadi who is attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant has been moved to another room in the hotel and has been redecorated in a sleek, modern and warming style. The 3 of us all had different dishes which were very well cooked. My local reared chicken was superb and really tasted of chicken for once! The wine menu is limited but good so all in all a good start to a new team. We wish them well.

We visited Solberge Hall just before Christmas and was more than impressed with every aspect of the place. It was a sunday evening and very quiet, there was only the four of us and another elderly couple dining but the service was professional and unrushed. i look forward to dining there again soon.

This is a lovely setting for a meal, a beautiful old hall which is surrounded by fantastic views. We had a starter and main course which was piping hot and presented in an attractive manner. The quality of the beef and locally produced sausages were exceptional. We were fortunate in that we were the only 4 in the restaurant so our service was particularly good.

Visited for afternoon tea as a birthday treat earlier this week - excellent location, superb service, delicate food with a glass of champers to get the event off to a sparking start. I would certainly visit again. This is a beautifully located hotel in the glorious Yorkshire countryside - what more can you ask for - service definitely with a smile.

Absolutely fantastic hotel, set in a wonderful part of North Yorkshire, we had a 3 course meal with coffee, followed by a fantastic Take That tribute band which were really entertaining & gave it there all! Afterwards was a dj & disco until the early hours, fabulous evening all round. The drinks were quite expensive, but everything was high quality, so well worth it!!

Latte coffee (with extra shot) allegedly large but certainly only medium, small piece of mass produced poor quality cake....£9.05 !!!!! Massively over priced. Waited to be seated and waited to give my order while the member of staff who should have been serving me filled in her paperwork and chatted with staff. My coffee when it arrived was covered in coffee grounds and was undrinkable. I took it back and the woman who served me was very polite apologised and served me quickly with another one. I must say she was the ONLY staff member who showed any customer care at all. If you want over priced drinks and cake along with a poor attitude from staff then pay them a visit. Otherwise I suggest giving them a wide berth!!

I have been here for the last 3 weeks on business for 2 nights a week, still 3 weeks to go 😀 Lovely welcome by everyone who has been on reception on all my visits, very helpful, friendly and they go that extra mile to help. The rooms I've stayed in so far are ( 2-10 and 31) which were very clean, cosy and well presented with everything you needed, Iron, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. The only little issue was the shower door rollers kept coming loose, just life cycle replacement needs attention at some point. I could not fault any of the cleaning at all and that's very rare for me due to being a cleaning trainer for the NHS, hotels, schools and offices for 20 years. I meet some of the cleaning first thing on the morning and they were also very polite and always smiling. The bar area was comfortable, clean, all the staff are friendly and the food in the restaurant-bar is excellent, large portions, presented beautifully and very tasty...... 😋 I didn't have the breakfast , so i can't comment on that... Thank you so much for making me feel welcome, especially when I'm here on my own. I will miss coming here when my business in Northallerton comes to an end 😊

Great food, super service and staff however they really need to address the fly problem. I’ve been twice recently and both times been bothered by a number of small annoying flies buzzing around my food. It’s really not good enough and clearly a long standing issue as previous reviews also highlight. The problem is spoiling an otherwise fantastic restaurant, our food was delicious, and apart from swatting the little blighters we had a great evening.
