And so - Myself and my Wife found ourselves “out on a limb” - Christmas Day- Our two Daughters had other plans. To avoid being on our own on Christmas Day, we booked ourselves into a nearby hotel with our beloved Cindy (Cocker Spaniel). And so Christmas Day came and we arrived at the Durham Ox to a simply Fantastic Welcome - Complimentary Whiskey or Baileys. The day just got better !! Every stranger was a friend we just hadn’t met. The range and quality of drinks simply brilliant. The food “to die for” !! Jimmy - I committed to you that I would respond to the fabulous friendship and hospitality that you gave to myself and my Wife. We couldn’t wish anything other than our best wishes to you and yours. The food was amazing I had the steak , it melted in my mouth it's the nicest steak I've had in a very long time, the staff and chef were lovely we will definitely be coming again 😋

The Durham Ox is clearly one of the most popular pubs in Northallerton and even on a bitterly cold Wednesday evening there were a good few in. It’s a large pub in the traditional style and although the decor etc is perhaps due a refurb, the most important things are that the beers and atmosphere are very good and the bloke behind the bar is top class. They also serve authentic Thai food on specific days, although we weren’t able to sample any.

We popped in for a meal on our way home to colchester and we were pleasantly surprised by the menu i was expecting to have to eat your everyday pub meal but thoroughly enjoyed the thai food we ate

The Durham ox is the place to be!!! With the cracking banter from staff and locals to the amazing Thai food being served Wednesday to Sunday! Overall a great place for all! Can't wait to return

A nice pub on the high street with adequate parking, the cost of which can be redeemed at the bar when ordering drinks. The decor is a tad tired, however the landlord ensures that the quality of the beers and lagers are always in tip top condition. There is also the added bonus of serving authentic Thai food which is very competitively priced. It is also mooted that the introduction of loyalty cards, buy five, and get the sixth free is in the offing. I’m unlikely to benefit from this largesse as I only consume dry sherry. All in all a very friendly pub where all visitors are made welcome.

The pub has now taken on a self employed Thai chef. And wow!! Only had a couple of starters but based on the taste and excellence a whole series of return visits is going to happen vert soon.

Popped in on Saturday to try the new Thai menu and have to say the food was absolutely delicious, so fresh and tasty, would definitely recommend it. You always get a friendly welcome, we'll be back again soon.

My husband & myself had lunch at Durham Ox on Thursday 19 th September I had yellow Thai chicken curry my husband had sweet & sour chicken both with Jasmine rice absolutely delicious and pricey was well good the pub it's self is a bit tired but looking past that the food is so good .

We had my husband and I, our 3 children, my auntie and uncle and their dog. We tried the durham ox as just needed somewhere dog friendly and served food, we were just expecting pub grub but my goodness the food was AMAZING!! I can't highly recommend the food enough it was delicious. The kids chicken nuggets and chips were beautifully cooked with fresh ingredients and we both had the crying tiger and it was delicious still pink in the middle. It was restaurant quality food in a pub. The prices as well make it very affordable, the kids meals were £4.99, adult meals £10.99 and the salt and pepper chips were £3. With those prices we can afford to come regularly and we will definitely be back. Thankyou for a great experience for my whole family.

Very friendly place, landlord and his wife very good host we had loads of fun, popped in for a drink or 2 on my Birthday, food was excellent . They had a new tye menu on and we all had different and it was very nice and very tasty, the chef came out to see if it was ok, 10 /10 would definitely go back and well worth the visit.

Called in today for lunch and the food is now Thai. I had a lovely Chicken, Egg fried rich, plentiful and tasty. It was lovely. My husband is very picky so had fish fingers and chips but really enjoyed it. It was very reasonably priced as well, with 2 cokes it was just under £20. The staff were very nice. Music playing, busy beer garden out the back. Very efficient at clearing tables, chatting and smiling.

This was a fantastic pub for drinking, with an old school feel to its design! Counter is well-presented, staff were very nice and the seating is comfy.

Called here as wanted a hot drink with family and a sit down and the only place quiet even though it was sunny outside,sat in beer garden a few in there a bit lacking TLC inside and out needs some investment here but drinks fine and friendly staff and locals,not serving food now think chap running it temporary .toilets ok ,I’m surprised its still open as only about ten in on a busy weekend

Our family have been using this pub for over 30years but a recent visit was marred by us receiving a £60 parking fine. We payed the £2 fee and redeemed the ticket against a drink at the bar as per the instructions but then days later received the fine. As the machine is cash only we have no proof of this. I phoned the pub to see if they could help but they just fobbed us off and the rip off car parking company are impossible to contact. So anyone visiting here, please be aware of this scam.

Very friendly and welcoming pub. Surprisingly comfy seats and a warm fire. The pool table is in good condition and well positioned so that there is little to no obstruction. There is a spacious beer garden out the rear and a sheltered smoking area. All in all a great place to go for a drink.

Met up for a cheeky few after work with some friends. The tall lad behind the bar was pleasant, and the landlady was very welcoming.

Great couple who run it! Really welcoming and such a friendly pub for yourselves and kids. Remember what you order. Lots of entertainment on a weekend (and not just from the locals). When I had my kitchen done they unfortunately weren’t serving food but were happy for me to bring something in and eat in the pub which I found a blessing for me and my child! Couldn’t fault it

I don't go to Northallerton often, but found myself there on Friday afternoon. I fancied a hand pulled pint and randomly popped in to the Durham Ox as it was the nearest pub. I chose a draft Pale Ale. Despite looking forward to the pint unfortunately I found it unpleasant and had to leave most of it. A waste of money, and moreover so disappointing when I was hoping for a nice relaxing drink. And no, I didn't complain, I just left. I wasn't in the mood for the hassle of taking the pint back. I would hope that someone who runs a pub would be able to get the fundamentals correct and at least serve a drinkable pint!

Lovely new couple who know how to run a pub properly and party at the same time! Beer is good, pub is clean (needs a refurbishment as it’s old and tired) and they’ve embraced us local’s quickly and with great warmth. Such a shame that Marstons won’t drag it up to date internally.

As a regular at the Durham Ox for many years I have seen many managers come and go and one does wonder whether the incumbent’s fall foul of Marstons insouciant approach, or is a lack of investment and staff support a common criteria? Over the years due to lack of investment the infrastructure of the pub has deteriorated, notwithstanding the fact that pubs in the immediate area have invested in decor updates. Years ago the pub was very competitive price wise and there was a frequent rotation of beers from across the Marston’s estate. Alas no more. Prices are no longer competitive, the interior is a tad dowdy and in need of an update. Competition is fierce in the pub trade, accordingly urgent consideration should be given to ensure prices are competitive in the immediate area, also most of the furniture is dated. The current husband and wife management team are doing a sterling job to ensure old regulars return and new customers are made welcome, but I fear they face an uphill battle if the current higher management inertia remains If the downward trend in lack of investment and customer consideration continues, then I fear the Ox may well gravitate towards the pub graveyard. Please get a grip Marstons.

I really have never been in a pub with so many friendly people. We were all made to feel welcome by the regulars and staff. The landlady and the manager could not do enough for us. Cheap drinks and just such a great atmosphere throughout. Me and my family, friends and work colleagues will definitely be spending more time in these premises. Everyone's made to feel welcome and safe.

What a great pub, live entertainment every other weekend that everyone would like, the bar staff, owners and regulars are amazing and will go above and beyond to make you feel welcome , will definitely recommend a stop in here if you're in Northallerton it will not disappoint

Came in randomly as train was cancelled. The staff and customers were above exemplary! Felt welcomed from the moment I entered with a couple of friends. The Sunderland lad behind the bar was a gentleman, friendly and welcoming. Through out the day the service was prompt and efficient, congrats on the great atmosphere and ethos that resonated amongst the pub! Happily recommend to any one!

Just don't go unless you like over priced drinks,sticky tables and vaping teenagers . What more can I say they allow vaping inside. It's definitely not the cleanest. Would I go again? 😂 No not if it was the last pub in the area, which...

The worst pint I have had in years. The drink tasted of cleaning fluid. Nobody around to complain too. Just left the drinks on the bar and went to a different pub.

The pub has changed landlords, and they new ones are no where near as friendly as the others, the food wasn’t as nice, dog behind the bar. Just not as nice anymore.

Ordered Mexican Nachos and I got of plate of Nachos chips and melted cheddar cheese and 2 tiny pots of guacamole....no salsa, sour cream or nacho cheese. The drinks were lovely but the food left me very disappointed

Fantastic food at a reasonable price, the steak was excellent and the veggie burger was one of the best I have ever had. Really happy with everything. The prices were very affordable, I will definitely be back soon.
