The Watermill Bar and Grill in Hambleton

Visited yesterday with my family for Sunday lunch. The food was delicious, chef was clearly passionate and kindly made us some separate vegetarian gravy, and the service (although a bit slow as it was busy) was very friendly and accommodating. They have a beautiful beer garden with a huge koi pond and a kids play area. Really reasonably priced for what you get too.

The nice barmaid recommended for us to go here, her words “amazing food” She couldn’t be further from the truth. Me & my boyfriend went, I got prawn cocktail to start & burger for main. He got fish & chips….Well the prawns were cheap & had been frozen, the lettuce wasn’t fresh, with filo pastry around it. Strange combination The burger came, 2 burgers that tasted like cheap Birds Eye, with deep fried oily chips, you could taste the fat, the coleslaw was the weirdest thing ive tasted, it looked like supermarket cheap coleslaw with fresh dill in it, another strange combination. I think the fish was the only thing that was alright, but over seasoned. The reason I’m writing this….is down to being ripped off! Honestly for the price we payed for what quality we got was a joke. It was the chef had nipped to the supermarket to his stock.

We had fajitas, burger and fish and chips. Absolutely delicious. There's an open kitchen and we could see how professional the chefs were- massive pride in their work. If we lived closer this would be somewhere we would come often. Definitely recommend!

We went for our 50th Wedding Anniversary meal and what a lovely menu they had to choose from, our friends are Vegan and the choice for them were really good too. Presentation of the food was wonderful and the staff were very friendly

Very nice pace normally have a Sunday roast whilst fishing would recommend staff are spot on nice food

I was staying locally and have never been here before and thought I'd try it out. On the first night I had the Green Thai Chicken curry and I must say it was excellent. The best Thai I've ever tasted. On the following night I tried out the Chicken fajitas and the presentation was fantastic. It had its own designed board for all the sauces. This is the best restaurant I've been in for many years. Compliments to the Chef..

Fantastic food and fantastic service really went the extra mile very reasonable prices and great gluten free options highly recommend a visit especially if you are staying onsite

Tasty food, fairly fast service, a bit less atmosphere.

We eat carvery meals regularly and this was one of the best we have had. All food was hot and plenty of choice the meats were particularly good. Had the ice cream for dessert again fantastically good flavours.

Went for carvery on Sunday with kids. Unless kids like carvery they’ll go hungry. No usual kids options or willingness to accommodate. Carvery was good, one of the better I’ve had.

Went on Monday after arriving at Woodlands with the family. Very quiet, super atmosphere, staff were amazing and the best meal we have had in years. Lovely Gardens and amazing koi carp pond where the children can feed the fish. Also went in on Thursday and Friday for drinks. The sports bar (harveys) you had plenty of space to watch the euros and even opened up tge cafe next to it, when it got busy. The cafe itself, with cook Pippa was brilliant for the fishermen. She cooked from fresh and was busy through the morning. Tea and coffee was instant and you could make it yourself, which I find is better as I know how I like my coffee, and the best part was in the cafe it was only £1.30 !!!

Lovely restaurant. We visited while staying at the woodland lakes on a Saturday evening. We didnt have a booking but got a table straight away. There is a good choice of meals. We had steak, spaghetti carbonara, pizza and kids fish and chips. We all really enjoyed our food. The childrens meal was quite big, my son couldn't finish it but he really enjoyed it. The desserts were lovely as well. Service was great.

A bit of a Bizarre restaurant 🤔 We went to get some takeaway pizzas on our first night at the Campsite and to be honest these were lovely. On returning the next evening we only wanted a few drinks. The place was absolutely empty, however the staff took a few minutes to ask whether they were allowed to let us in to just have drinks?!? It just felt a bit weird that they would need to ask this? Given how quiet they were if I was the management I would be taking all the business I could get! I would understand more if it had been packed out. Also, there is an open kitchen.. I could hear 3 different types of music whilst sat in the restaurant and this was verrrrry annoying to listen to, in addition to the chefs swearing and using bad language loudly in the open kitchen. Not great for when kids are around.

Great meal and almost too efficient service. Food was very tasty and hot on arrival. I would highly recommend this place for something to eat. I would suggest at quieter time you ask for some time between courses. Staff were very friendly and helpful and happy to make recommendations on the food.

We had been here before. The food is an example of fine dining with good quality meats and ingredients. The chef dies his best to impress and if anything is a little too ambitious. I had a steak again but this time it had more herbs on the top which I wasn't too keen on. The cheesecake for pud came in a glass and was rather sickly with a very sugary biscuit crumb and white chocolate in layers. I prefer the old fashioned type of cheesecake in a slab on a plate but maybe that's just me.

Love this place and going back in July. Fantastic service and staff are second to none. The menu is varied and something for everyone👏

Food was nice and waitresses nice and polite...we tipped at end of the meal... but weren't advised of a hidden service charge wouldn't of tipped otherwise.

We pre ordered, food came quickly and hot, well presented nice portion very filling.,waitresses were spot on n friendly thought prices were reasonable and left a nice tip..... only down on it u get a 10% service charge on your bill which we didn't know was getting took.

The service was fantastic and the food is amazing

Food is ok a bit overpriced. For the price of the food I was expecting good food. The food presentation was fine and the aruncino starter was huge but warm not hot. My main haddock and chips with pea puree was ok the chips were excellent but the haddock (frozen?) lacked flavour with the batter not crisp. My partner had funfair double burger which was huge but for the price we would expect hand made fresh burgers. All in all we would not return to dine here. The cocktails and wine were nice. Staff were lovely.

Our party of 16 could not fault the food and service. Being a large group we had booked and pre-ordered our menu choices as requested. Although there were a selection of different meals they were all served quickly and efficiently, no-one was left waiting. The starters, main courses and desserts ( for those of us who had room) were delicious. I would recommend the Watermill to anyone, the hard-working staff are amazing.

Gorgeous food I ordered the creamy parsnip soup and it was best soup I've ever had daughter ordered the nachos which were all home made and they were gorgeous too. The Sunday carvery well worth the money we will be back. Also had granddaughter who is 6 with us she didn't fancy carvery as picky eater but staff said can order from snack bar next door which I did and the young lad said he'd would bring her food through to restaurant which he did and even her meal was cooked lovely chicken strips and fries. Very accomodating please deffo coming back

Called in for lunch with friends as we were staying in a lodge nearby. The restaurant is modern and bright with lovely decor and a nice relaxing vibe. They have a lovely outside area that was being refurbished which I imagine will be beautiful in the Summer. We opted for a few dishes from the starter menu to share. Everything was freshly made and so tasty. The arancini balls were the best I've ever tasted served with a sweet dipping glaze. We had homemade hummus, chicken liver parfait, pizzetta with cheese and caramelised onions and loaded nachos with delicious guacamole and salsa. It was all delicious and perfect. Each dish was between £7 - £9. Nice attentive staff and friendly atmosphere we will most definitely be returning. As a side note I would ring to check opening times as it looked like they were closed for parts if the day.

Booked Sunday Lunch yesterday for 4, first visit won't be the last. Carvery was lovely, all nice and fresh. The girls serving us 5 stars you where so good. All the staff where welcoming, highly recommend. Thank you x

Carvery lunch was hit and miss. The roast potato’s were very good but the swede mash had so much white pepper in it, it was inedible. Most of the food was over seasoned. The meat portions were very generous. The beef was dry and over cooked but the Turkey and ham was good. The Pinot Grigio was very acidic and unpleasant - avoid! Wine in general over priced. Lots of swearing coming from the kitchen, which was very audible in the restaurant as the kitchen/pass is very open.

Was really looking forward to trying this restaurant tonight but unfortunately me and my husband were really disappointed. We both had a prawn cocktail which wasn’t very nice my husband only ate the prawns and left the rest. For our mains we had ordered fajitas and fish and chips.I must admit it was probably the worst fish & chips I have ever had the fish didn’t taste of anything at all it had a slimy texture and the batter also tasted really greasy. The fajitas were very bland too. The meals we had tonight Really wasn’t worth what we had paid therefore as stated above we are both really disappointed 👎🏼 extremely pricey for what it is

Fantastic place to go with kids. The staff could not be more helpful and accommodating, the food is really good, and when we ordered something that was too spicy for one of the party (our mistake completely) they were so kind in replacing the meal promptly. The interior is clean/light and the menu is pub classics. Fajitas were excellent, fish and chips delicious, and the burgers fantastic. Kids demolished the chips and we just had a lovely meal. Cauli, carrots were very aldentae, ( under cooked, and some of the meats were chewy. Bit still enjoyed the atmosphere.

Only people in the restraunt, beer was clearly off so left that, coke wasnt the best the food was ok not much taste but is what it is And to top it off after paying thinking it was a bit pricey they stick £10 service charge ontop £10 they didnt do nothing there was nobody in but us so for me thats a ripp off as they served us the food and drink nothing else🤷‍♂️

Absolute %100 1st time visiting with 12 in our Party,all couples fom Thirkleby Hall static park From entering the place,staff so friendly & accomodating. The food in delivery,presentation and quality was 2nd to none An absolute to visit. Visited the Bar area after food to watch sports showing Football & American football on our visit on multiple screens The place is immaculate We will be back Bazz & Jan

Had the 1.4 kg tomohawk and it was phenomenal. Melt in the mouth. It has ruined other steaks for me. Would definitely recommend, well worth the price.

Amazing food and very friendly staff. Dog-friendly but booking recommended. We enjoyed our food and drinks but we were seated near to a large family group who were very loud and spoiled the atmosphere a bit.

What an amazing restaurant, Beautiful surroundings, wonderful staff and the totally outstanding food. We were here for my wife’s birthday and both had the sirloin stake, 10/10 but only because I cant give more than 100% the deserts were also to die for. we were made welcome by all staff and the manager. we later met the chef who was passionate about his work. I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed. WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN EVER THOUGH ITS 50 MILES FROM OUR HOME.

We came for a carvery this afternoon after a few recommendations about this place, and so I am really disappointed to be writing this. I did voice these concerns when I paid my bill, but the young lady behind the till who took my payment didn’t really have much to say. The service today was absolutely shocking. It wasn’t particularly busy when we were there, so there aren’t really any excuses for poor service. Especially when the staff are stood around chatting, despite seeing our plates piled up ready for clearing etc. The thing that has really spoilt the experience today (aside from the dogs constantly barking) was the lack of hygiene. I witnessed at least two members of staff walk past the carvery food, pick up a roast potato with their bare hands, then dipped it in the gravy and walked off. My stomach turned when I saw this the first time, but then to see it happen again with a member of the kitchen staff was enough to completely put me off my dinner. I hope that this lack of hygiene isn’t common practise in your workplace. Also, I appreciate that you are a dog friendly establishment, but this afternoon there must have been around 10-15 dogs in the restaurant which is a little excessive, especially when they started barking and my family were trying to eat! Needless to say, I probably won’t be returning again. Even at the point of me complaining when I paid, I felt as though nothing would actually be done anyway. The young girl seemed more interested in getting our payment than actually listening to what I had to say. And then they had the nerve to try and charge us an additional £13 ‘service charge,’ which I would’ve happily paid if the service was ok, but it was shocking! Very disappointed.

Visited here for an evening meal whilst on a stay at woodland lake lodges. Staff were lovely and Friendly. Choice of food and drinks were decent. All food was made fresh and was to a high standard. If you’re staying at the lodges would recommend you give this place a try. We will definitely go back next time we visit. Hopefully on a weekend next time, as I have heard their Sunday lunches are also amazing!

Stayed at the static park and was surprised by the quality of this hidden gem.

The waiting staff were nice, but don't bother going unless you like waiting over an hour with several ravenous, ratty kids (can't blame them) for below-par pub grub in a none too smart setting. Sadly, they were clearly struggling to make even the most basic of dishes (I'm talking frozen burgers, plastic cheese, and a tomato pasta dish my 4 year old could have made) and that's when there were only a few covers in! And then there was the turquoise mayonaise (see pic)! (The "chefs" idea of making the "burgers" "stand out". Oh Lord.) I felt embarrassed for the waiting staff. No wonder they never asked if everything was okay with the meals whilst we were eating - they already knew the answer! It was edible at best. As I say, our waitress was lovely, and friendly with our kids, but we wont be returning despite staying on site. A real let down.

Nice place, but you would need a 4x4 mentality to get to it to avoid the hundreds of potholes! Carvery was good with self service vegetables. Best to ask for a hot plate if coming early. There’s table service for delish desserts if you have any space! Seating inside and outside very calming along with the Koi Carp. Kids bouncy castle was a plus and would recommend dark socks! Safety flooring was an excellent idea.

Amazing food and Service , great outdoor seating area with Koi pond ,great prices. The spicy chicken fajitas with dips were great value for money. Spaghetti bolognese was terrific, topped off with locally made ice cream, wow.

Food was good but the service was absolutely awful. Our reservation was ignored, we were ignored throughout the entire evening. We was not asked if we were happy with the food, whilst the waitresses were being attentive to other customers. no one asked us if we wanted more drinks or dessert, whilst others were being asked. I asked to speak to the manager, but they did not come to the table. Absolutely disappointed with the service

Had Suday carvery. Food was excelent service was great. Also had deaert Cheesecake which was amazing. Everything gets 10/10. Beautiful decore and wonderfull atmosphere. Definatly recomend.

I stopped for a drink for my first time ever, to see the place with a friend, I was shocked with a 6ft long box in the aisle of the seats. It was left for a numerous amount of time. Customers were having to walk around it, kick it out the way. 3 members of staff were taking no notice of the customers. When I left I asked a customer the name of the cafe and commented on the 6ft box in the shop. Which was a health and safety hazard. He said they had it out for kids to play in. This isn't a creche and the box took up the whole aisle for people to walk through. If someone had tripped the shop would have had to pay £1000's the person in charge was not thinking

7 friends booked and had the carvery. Really impressed. Everything was cooked to perfection. The service was really good. All in all an exceptional experience, will definitely be back .

Lots of choice on the menu but the food was admittedly disappointing. We were staying on site so it was handy and the restaurant got busy (Tuesday evening) but we got there early doors and hadn’t pre booked. Food was ok, some better than others. Pizzas looked homecooked and could see the chef splitting the dough. Burger however was very disappointing and felt very much frozen.

Another fantastic visit to the WaterMill Bar and Grill and also Harvey’s Sports Bar. As always the food was amazing and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Thank you to everyone and we will see you all again soon. Best wishes Bev, Kev and family.

Service was brilliant! Really sweet, friendly young lady serving us. Beautifully decorated, feels really homely & a small play area for children. Food on the other hand was terrible which was a shame. Only ate a couple of forkfulls of my meal. A lot like a Wetherspoons. Also the Pepsi tasted very wateted down so couldn't manage to finish that either. Will not be going back.

We visited last night on the spur of the moment. We managed to sit outside avoiding the rain. Small things could be done to tidy it up but it’s still a lovely setting. We had a meal inside which was very tasty and excellent service!

This place is a gem, We had two evening meals here on a Wednesday and Thursday. The meals were outstanding, Haddock n chips best I,ve had, Pizza fantastic. Thumbs up to Rob,the waitresses and obviously the kitchen staff. A little pricey but overall fantastic.

Dined here over two consecutive night food excellent service outstanding and the whole whole experience was amazing especially my hug from Rob when we left. Shout out to Rob and his team and chefs. Just returned home today ....visited with my husband. Friendly staff and family run business...they are all really approachable and a canny family who can't do enough for you and make you feel really welcome. Sports bar is lovely and pizzas amazing...breakfast good too. Nice and clean and relaxing....Nice for children, dogs and family to enjoy. We have taken our dogs previously but wanted a break this time. We will be back again ... yous made our stay Thank you Joanne and John from Sunderland. Xx

We've been here a few times over the years, when stopping at the nearby lodges at Woodland Lake Lodges. It's always been a good experience and tonight's visit was good also. Kids had margarita pizza 🍕 (crust shaped with bulls horns 😈) tomato 🍅 sauce was plenty under a yummy cheese topping. One of the kids had spaghetti 🍝 bolognese and ate the lot! She really enjoyed it. The adults had double cheese Burger 🍔 that came with fries 🍟 and hunters chicken that came with fries 🍟. All very tasty and filling. The staff were really friendly and service was quick 🙂 There was a play area just outside that is cordoned off so no escaping 👍 Bouncy castle was up also 🤩 The place itself was very clean and the kitchen had an open view. Toilets 🚻 were clean Good access ♿ for all If you found this review helpful, please give it a like ✅👍❤️

We ate here on the 25.3.23 as a treat on our honeymoon. The service was incredible. The food was exceptional to say the least. We dined with both our young children, the children's portions were more than generous, and in our opinion perfectly priced as normally you pay high end prices for chicken nuggets and chips and they are less graceful than McDonald's. My youngest ate all of her haddock and chips. My eldest got spaghetti bolognaise both ate every scrap of food. My partner got the linguine tiger prawns, perfectly cooked. I ate haddock and chips. Perfectly cooked, generous in portion size and worth every penny spent. The attention paid by the waiting staff was top class, the food was in another league. Cooked and presented with love and care. I hope the chefs enjoyed cooking the food as much as we enjoyed eating it. This meal out was a real treat for us and we enjoyed every single mouthwatering mouthful. When we are back in the area we will certainly be heading back here. Thank you for having us.

Excellent quality meats, vast array of very tasty vegetables, probably best to book if having a Sunday carvery. Very reasonably priced considering the quality and taste of the meat & veg.

Absolutely horrific experience. We were the only ones in the restaurant and had pre ordered the tomahawk steak sharing meal. We had to ask for plates to eat from!!!!!!! The meal then included a bottle of wine which the waitress didn’t have a clue about available stock. We not offered any other drink options or even if we wanted water to go with the meal. The meal was put infront of us without any communication and we never saw a waitress at our table again. Instead the 2 girls stood at the bar on their phones eating pizza. We spent the entire meal listening to their conversation as they were talking that loud. Once finished, it took 10+ minutes for our plates to be cleared and then we had to ask for the bill.again the bill was placed infront of us with zero communication. After sitting for 20 minutes, we had to approach the bar to pay the bill. Not one care was given when I told them to remove the service charge as I refused to pay for something I hadn’t received. When I asked to speak to a manager I was told there wasn’t one on site. But I have to say the food was amazing!!!!! Just completely and utterly ruined by the worst service I have ever received and total lack of atmosphere. We felt like we intruded on their night.

Had a very good meal last night, we were made to feel very welcome even before we entered by a staff member outside. And when we entered we were instantly greeted with a smile and a welcome. Our waitress was incredibly attentive to our 3 year old son. The food was incredible worth every penny and great that you can see it being made in the kitchen, I couldn’t manage it all but didn’t want to waste any of it was very tasty so they put it in a takeaway pot for me. A hidden little gem with a visit.

Though I'd write this before I forget, had works party last night at the watermill venue, as typical brits being drunk before scran gets served and the chaos that we was causing by jumping table to table the staff that served us food where amazing, always smiling, being patient with us and as a chef I would have snapped all day long, atmosphere (good band) was great and brilliant layout. Food was brilliant, so much much better than I expected so compliments to the chefs that night. Brilliant. Nothing negative and 100% recommended to everyone else. Thank you.

First time we’ve visited this restaurant and we were not disappointed, lovely decor and atmosphere inside, we were given the choice of where we’d like to sit which is always nice as opposed to being directed to a table, all staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Food was excellent! Couldn’t believe how much of a nice night we’d had for a very reasonable price. Can’t wait for our next visit!

Terrible! On arrival, we were seated straight away and the waitress then came back for our drinks order. We were ready to order mains, however she said she had two other tables to take orders from, then she'd be back. This has never happened to us before in any restaurant! I wouldn't have said it was busy really either. There were two or three waitresses that just seemed to be wandering around aimlessly. We finally ordered after about 20 minutes and luckily it wasn't too much longer until the food arrived. My husband had ordered gammon, and when it arrived it was swimming in grease. We had to use a napkin to soak it all up. Didn't bother to send back as we'd waited long enough to order it and were pretty hungry by this point! Weird spaghetti bolognese, served with mixed in leaves, probably just to bulk it out and use less meat. Have never had it served like this, even in Italian restaurants. We didn't get a check back until we'd finished, and we then asked for the bill. We were shocked to see that a 10% service charge had been added. We did not see anywhere on the way in that stated this would be the case. And after the experience we had, we certainly would not have paid a tip anyway. Maybe that is why they add it in the first place? Would definitely not recommend, drive a bit further done the road, and you'll find somewhere better!

Bolognaise pizza very oily no taste kid’s chicken strips were nice I wish I had them 😂 and didn’t realise you paid a service charge such a shame as usually really lovely place for food and drinks maybe I just hit on off night
