Smoke & Sear Kitchen in Newcastle upon Tyne

Not a coffee only shop. Visited on a Tuesday morning, did not recognise the young lady behind the counter so no reason to believe she would recognise me. We have frequently called in over the last couple of years. There were a couple of free tables but we're told they were not serving "coffee only". I suppose they would rather have people eating breakfast, understandable but rather a short term outlook. Next week the place may be empty and they would love my business but they will not be seeing us again. Good luck if that is your policy.

We came here after seeing all the posts on social media for something different and boy was it, food was amazing the place filled up pretty quick only thing was would like the option of a small or large latte but that's just me still lovely all the same x

Only the second time we've been went the first time on the recommendation of a work colleague although have walked past it on several occasions , once again I had the steak and eggs with a slice of black pudding which was delicious .

A delicious fresh breakfast today and you could not fault the staff, service was great. My other half even said it was one of the best full English breakfasts he’d ever had. The specials were amazing and all the other food that was coming out of the kitchen looked amazing too. Would definitely recommend!

Have been meaning to try it for a while, and finally got around to it this lunchtime. I have to say, it didn't disappoint! The sandwiches we had were absolutely amazing, and the service was excellent as well. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Absolutely amazing eatery, I got the Steak and Eggs and my partner the Eggs and Bacon with panko crusted eggs and hash brown soldiers - unbelievably good flavours It's clear Smoke and Sear is a fantastic pillar of the local community, sourcing ingredients from other local businesses A great example of the food revolution taking place in our humble city

Food was absolutely brilliant. Had the Wakey Wakey Eggs & Bacy and the Steak & Chips - both were perfect! Service was fab also.

Wowsers, is all I need to say, the breakfast is awesome, we had Steak and Eggs and Crackle Eggs and Bacon which was delicious, the staff are brilliant and so pleasent, well done, we'd highly recommend it.

Lovely breakfast and good coffee

Love this place. However the breakfast just wasn't for us. The sausage had pieces of thick fat in it that were really hard to chew 😢 nothing like a full english. We weren't a fan of the beans also Iced coffee was incredible. Staff were amazing

Tried this place for the first time and it exceeded my expectations. I ordered a vegetarian breakfast and the vegetarian sausages were the best I’ve ever tasted and so was the fake bacon. Everything was home made including the little things like the beans and ketchup and hash browns which all tasted amazing!

Decided to try this place because of rave reviews, was not disappointed. Steak was delicious and cooked just right, and staff were friendly and accommodating. 👍

People were nice and place had a good feel. Was great to have so many vegetarian and vegan options especially as it was unexpected given the name. All looked great, fake bacon was surprisingly good and sausage was different. Beans needed more flavour and the has brown was a bit bland and sour dough toast was little cool and crunchy but on I’d go back.

Hands down one of the best places for breakfast or a hearty lunch in Newcastle. Heaton Road is home to some of the best food establishments in the north east and Smoke & Sear are definitely one of them. Friendly team, excellent quality locally sourced ingredients and a ton of passion go I to their food. Try their breakfast muffin with hash browns. Definitely worth every penny!

Tried smoke and sear in Heaton and HWKR now and can confirm both kitchens are top quality. Steak is always cooked exactly how you request. The sauce is absolutely delicious on the breakfasts too. Definitely a favourite and the prices are ridiculously reasonable for such exceptional quality 👌

A lovely little place, friendly staff and the food is delicious and you can tell it’s very good quality. Get the Pistachio Mocha - unreal!

Awesome bacon burger, cooked perfectly with great bacon and a good side of fries. Tasted really fresh. defo recomend

Had a lovely big breakfast here. Quality products, butchers sausages, homemade hash browns and BBQ beans. Will definitely go back to try other meals on the menu.

Absolutely banging Had been meaning to try here for ages but for whatever reason it hadn't happened yet. Went at the weekend for a friend's birthday and loved it. I had the steak supper. Tender, flavour filled steak. The fries and various sauces were great. My friends all loved their food too and the croffles were a revelation. Staff also super friendly and their dog friendly stance is a total bonus. Will definitely be back

Lovely food and service every time

We like to venture out and try a few new places for brunch and this was a great find. Some variations on breakfast and nice to take a break from pancakes and Nutella (the kids!) and avocado and poached eggs (the big kids!)…. Creatures of habit. I would recommend having a look at the menu if you have fussy kids. Although they were happy to tweaks the waffles to our kids liking. Nice atmosphere. Recommend booking.

Definitely not insta vs reality. The food is as good as it looks on socials. In fact, it was so good we all ordered seconds. I had the steak and eggs with hash browns and then ordered it again 😂 Divine! Coffee is really nice too. Can’t wait to go back.

What a wonderful experience here. We have never been before and attended for brunch on a weekday. The staff were so friendly and more than happy to accommodate anything. Bonus is that dogs are allowed and the server straight away brought our dog a water bowl. The food is absolutely amazing, so fresh and tasty. We both had the steak and eggs which was to die for. The coffee was excellent quality and the price in general was quite reasonable for what it was. I would not hesitate to return !

Incredible food at great prices. What more can I say, it’s not often you find gems that have food of this quality at such a reasonable cost. I got the large steak supper and genuinely couldn’t complain, the entire plate was cleaned and enjoyed thoroughly. Staff are amongst some of the most welcoming I’ve ever encountered. YOU NEED TO BOOK! There were so many walk ins turned away due to no availability, which is testament to its local prowess in itself. 10/10

Cute place with friendly staff! Good coffee and many interesting dishes for breakfast and brunch - couldn’t choose what to order! We had the sourdough toast with butter and honey, the yogurt granola which was so fresh and delicious and the pastrami sandwich which was excellent! Definitely recommend it!

The steak and eggs gave me food poisoning, and I’ve been out of commission and leaking from my bum for the past 27 hours (although it tasted good). The service was mediocre in my opinion. Waited ages to get order taken initially. The atmosphere was decent though.

Great choice of food and drinks with lots of specials and quirky items to choose from. Coffees were made to perfection! I had a vanilla latte, partner had a hazelnut mocha and they were both lovely. You could tell they had took their time making them. Brunch menu served all day. For food we had steak and eggs, and we both added sourdough and hash browns. The food was amazing! Steak cooked to perfection. So much flavour across the board it seemed a shame to leave any even though we were stuffed! Well maintained and clean little cafe and the staff were so welcoming and helpful from to start to finish. We will definitely be back!

Went for my birthday and the food was amazing! This place is definitely worth standing in a queue for!!! The breakfasts are unreal, especially the magpye meat free patties, hash browns (homemade) and croffles. Everything is made fresh and all seem to be local too which is a bonus, will definitely be back.

An absolute Gem!! 4 of us and my year old nephew had lunch and it was really delicious. Great menu including a bambino burger for the little one. The surf and turf was fab, the regular steak was delicious, the prawn sandwich amazing and the bairn loved his too. The appleslaw was delicious. Excellent service and happy smiley staff. Recommend to all in Heaton, Gosforth and anywhere in Newcastle really. A GEM!!!

Pastrami sandwich- one of the best I've tasted in a long long time, flavours outstanding, portion sizes great My partner got the double patty muffin too and this was incredible. We ordered takeout and it only took around 10 mins to come, late lunch time.

Lovely food and very tasty. Arrived early however a can of pop was missing from the order.

The steak sandwich was out of this world and made to perfection, I enjoyed every single bite of it. The waffle croissants (crottons) are delicious too, haven't had something similar before.

First time here during the day but we'll be back fairly soon. Wonderful wide choice of dishes, including extensive all day breakfast selections. All the ingredients seem to be locally sourced and from great suppliers too (Charlotte's Butcher's, Block &.Bottle, Pink Lane Bakery, Northern Rye). The in-house hash browns were the highlight of my Veggie Big 'Un and the rest of it was wonderful too.

The Toon pastrami sandwich was excellent, packed with tasty slices of pastrami on door-stopper slices of Northern Rye sourdough. So good. I’d recommend asking for the honey mustard mayo on the side for less mess, found it quite sloppy otherwise. The chips (fries) were skin-on and really nicely cooked, I’d definitely get them again. Not sure about the aubergine and halloumi sandwich, lovely taste but it all got a bit wet and sloppy to eat. Overall, a great place for lunch with huge portions and for a reasonable price.

So damn good! Sausage was the only negative but it was a texture thing rather than how it was cooked or flavour, just a bit tough. Everything else is amazing. Will return. Probably multiple times

Brilliant all day veggie breakfast

Went at the HWKRmarket a while back. Decent quality smashed burger, but it's not one of my favourites in Newcastle. Bacon was tasty, but I wouldn't have the normal burger again.
