Nice city market with a wide selection of food products, butchers, fishmongers and delicatessens, together with a wide choice of shops selling local and traditional products, barbers, shoemakers, fabrics and so on. A special mention deserves the choice of restaurants, pubs and snacks which ranges from traditional English with a special eye to Northumberland products to the most diverse ethnic ones such as Indians and Cubans.

Always excited when visiting Grainger Market. Happen to chance upon a really authentic Xian food stall in my most resident visit (March 2024), serving some delicious Paomo and Chinese burger. Name of this establishment is Noodle Box and Chinese Burger. A little pricey but the portion and quality made up for it. Could be a bit cheaper .

As a french person, I thought pastries were of a very bad quality and absolutely not worth it. However, the little shop inside called "Tian's gifts" was absolutely lovely with cute feathers, book marks. Crocheted roses at a fair price. I totally recommend going there

Went to the greek place inside for their metropolis kebab as we'd seen it on instagram and really fancied one, we were both left disappointed as it was not like we had seen online, meat had too much thyme in it and we had asked for chicken to be added inside also and didnt even get that, waste of £11 each it was dry. not alot was open regarding other shops inside it, and was a Saturday. Wont be going back, not just to the greek place but there in general as not much about. Toilets were clean though.

Now that the glass roof to the main market hall has been rennovated this market is returning to something like it's previous glory. Fewer fresh food stores than I remember but still a choice of a couple of fishmongers and several butchers. Fruit and veg are also represented. Gone is the fresh game that was once a speciality. In the place of these closed stalls are a selection of street food sellers. Greek, Italian, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, Latin American And others. So what we have lost on provisions we have gained in snacks.

I was on my way to Ouseburn and the walking route took me close to Grainger Market. We have visited it a couple of times and eaten in there so I popped in for an early lunch. I obviously went in by a different entrance as I struggled to find where I wanted to be, but worked it out once I realised that the market is divided into Alleys. It is such an interesting indoor market with lots of food providers -stalls, takeaways and cafes, plus clothes stalls and all manner of other things. I have yet to visit on a weekend but I suspect that it would be very busy. If you love indoor markets, or love fresh food and a bargain, it’s well worth a visit.
