Best place in Newcastle to explore loads of food! Either from the multiple butchers, grocers and cheese mongers. Or pull up a seat for dumplings, bagels & smears, noodles, tapas, burgers, and more! Huge classic market hall also has great gifts, like pop up cards, pottery, toys, books, games and more.

Depends on what you want from a market. It's changed so much over the years from shops to multi cultural eateries so as a market, not so good but if you want different types of food then its good. Nice to see a few shops like Lindsays fish shop, Pumphreys coffee and the pet shop are still there.

Grainger is the historic central market in the centre of Newcastle including Butcher, Baker and, I believe a new Candle maker as well as a 'Penny Bazaar' as old as the market. An interesting building and some interesting characters. Take the video camera with you. 6 Sept 22 some disruption just now due to long overdue maintenance which has turned into repairs But the stallholders are as willing as ever to ensure your requirements are met. Newcastle at it's best, wonderful selection of food and stalls. Local and community owned and operated. Elsewhere Newcastle seems to have fallen foul of several huge 80's and 90's 'Shopping Malls/ Retail Parks' great for national and international chains yet soulless, sullen and corporate. This market is a refreshing change from that, it was fantastic to see independent businesses thriving in this community use space.

First time visiting both the market and Newcastle itself and really enjoyed both. The market feels real and not touristy which I really liked. This is a welcome change to some other cities markets I've been to. There is a nice, and interesting, range of shops/stalls to choose from, and pleasant level of busyness, which isn't asphyxiating. The traders were also very friendly, certainly a theme of the city. I would recommend the market and will be back if I visit Newcastle again.

Slowly gentrified over time, this was the central covered food market. Loads of street food joints alongside a few of the original stalls. Great for food on the go. Let down by limited opening time and zero communal eating areas, so if you buy something and one of the two chairs in your stall of choice is taken, you're standing.

Good atmosphere. Food was poor quality and very expensive. We don't mind going out for meals as a family and don't mind spending the money for a family evening but this was overpriced and poor quality imo. You can find much better places that have just as good an atmosphere but with much better quality food and not as expensive. The waiter at the end also laughed when I asked him why a £15 service charge was added for 3 people? We won't be going back. Newcastle has much much better places to dine and enjoy as a family.

Not a coffee only shop. Visited on a Tuesday morning, did not recognise the young lady behind the counter so no reason to believe she would recognise me. We have frequently called in over the last couple of years. There were a couple of free tables but we're told they were not serving "coffee only". I suppose they would rather have people eating breakfast, understandable but rather a short term outlook. Next week the place may be empty and they would love my business but they will not be seeing us again. Good luck if that is your policy.
