Not impressed. Low quality. Order came out wrong and even though I tried to call them several times they kept ignoring me.

The best fish and chips I have tried the kebabs are also amazing the young girl in there is super friendly and very welcoming

The majority of the staff are lovely and the food is good - but had a very bad experience with one particular member of staff who felt it was necessary to argue when they had made an error. It would seem simply asking for a refund is not appreciated. They then felt the need to continue to shout clever comments even after I’d left the shop - if the intention was to make sure we never EVER come back then they absolutely nailed it

Was always good & reliably consistent , today I had cod & chips there, I am elderly & love this food, this was today the worst fish & chips I have had in my life, it was dreadful chips were okay but the fish ugh it was full of grease, the batter was like tempura , I had three mouthfuls of fish & now 6 hours later all I can taste is grease, talk about gone downhill fast, this shop has, never again

I would like to think that perhaps we were just unlucky when we picked up an early (5pm) supper of cod and chips last Friday, but… the chips were hard and dried out and not particularly hot. They actually tasted as if they had been reheated - perhaps left over from lunchtime? The cod was dry and tasteless. Sadly a very disappointing experience.

Decided on doing a Fish and chip birthday party instead of the usual BBQ. There were a few of us so I Pre ordered and asked that orders were wrapped individually. Everything came labelled ready to hand out. Everyone was happy. Thank you Smiles

Was passing through never to return and on a whim suddenly had an overwhelming urge for fish and chips as sometimes happens to British people. Was a Saturday midday and l was the first customer as they opened. Chips a bit dry so l would not have wanted to eat them if they had been hanging around any longer but the haddock was pretty decent, cooked to order. So overall, not bad at all.

Stopped in on route home. Chips were very soggy and soft and we could not eat. Fish was average. More expensive than local chippy in Maidenhead. Could be a one off but will not rush back.

2* for me. Not the best Friday night chips. They were old chips really hard. Not a soft chip in sight. Kebab wasn’t amazing not impressed. Was meant to be a Large and wasn’t much meat. We have had better for here before but not recently :(.

Previously I have given this place 5/5 because it was reliably as good as Harry Ramsden's ever was, and it had a cafe side where you could eat in. It was always busy not least because of an old folks home a short tottering distance away. COVID put a temporary halt to dining-in so the owner whipped out the chairs and tables and put in a doner takeaway. There are one hundred million doner kebab outlets in Bourne End alone but only a dozen top quality fish and chip cafe's in the entire known universe. I have never seen the kebab side busy but here we are; no more cafe and a rising reputation for fish and chips quality unreliability. Sort it out.

I placed a sizeable and extremely complicated order for a special birthday party meal but Smiles (Bourne End) came up trumps! I ordered the food online just the night before and, despite collecting it at my chosen time-slot on a busy Friday night, the order was totally accurate. As specially requested, the many and varied items came with a hand-written number to help me link it to the original order. That was really helpful, as was the very kind member of staff who carried the majority of the food to my parked car. A friendly, clear and easy process from start to finish which was very gratefully received. Many thanks to the Smiles (Bourne End) team!

I’ve used this place for decades and always been very pleased with the food. They responded brilliantly during the pandemic and set up a great ‘click and collect’ system which many in my little road took advantage of. This Friday however things appear to have really deteriorated. Our family collection was very greasy and cold, and both the haddock and cod were really dry. Maybe this was just a bad day so I’ll give it another go in a couple of weeks, and if things are the same I’ll be off to the chippy in Wooburn Green. Mike.

Unfortunately, this place seems to cause my partner and I bad stomachs after eating from here. The food is overly priced and the staff cannot get the orders right and have major attitude problems when you quiz them. I would definitely recommend everyone avoiding them..

Whenever we have placed a Web order from this branch of Smiles it has always without fail had something missing and today was no exception.

Ordered cod and chips and a jumbo sausage. I was really pleased that there was an option to have my fish cooked without batter, however the result was an over cooked dry inedible piece of cod. The worst I have ever had. I had to throw it away after the first bite. The chips and sausage were just average. The restaurant was clean and the service was ok, shame about the food! Wasted £10.

Ordered a large haddock and cod and chips costing around £15 which is £3 more than I usually pay The haddock was large a niece piece of fish but the cod was half the haddock size very tough dry and I was very disappointed I have been using Smiles for a long time I won’t be any longer Has this place changed hands? The menu of Smiles appears to have been extended recently to include meat so I ordered a takeway of a large lamb Doner with salad and medium chilli sauce to go with our fish and chips. The fish and chips and salad with the Doner were good, but the Doner meat was flabby and tasetless, almost as if it had been boiled for 2 hours. It was so poor and soft in texture that we suspected it was really cooked and processed meat slices threaded onto a Doner support without any roasting or rotating, then just removed without any further seasoning. Horrible. we gave it to the local birds and fox.

Always been a high standard chippy, and with their additonal grill range they have taken a step up. whether it's traditional fish and chips or a donner kebab you are wanting, this is the place locally to get it from.

I had a discussing meal from this chippy, the fat wasn’t hot enough so when I bit into the cod’s roe it was full of fat and the batter wasn’t crunchy, it was gross. The battered sausage had a hard rank crust on the bottom where it had been sat for ages and it was 7.30pm, it was not pleasurable. The chips were really dry and under cooked so we couldn’t eat them. It was a waste of money and we will not be going back, I complained to the manager and he had no respect or customer service. It’s worth traveling to SMARTS FISH AND CHIPS Henley on Thames, their fish and chips taste consistently amazing and crispy and they care.

So disgusted that I joined TripAdvisor to write a review.Firstly, I experienced the worst customer service last night. The food here is generally pretty good, I ordered a donor kebab and a chicken shish kebab, plus a medium chips and 3 diet coke.I was informed that the shish would take 10 mins as it would be freshly cooked, no problem with that, and they were reasonably busy. I waited for 25 mins before being told that the shish was ready and had been wrapped 10 mins ago but now there would be a further wait as they had run out of donor kebab meat. Little did they know that I counted 5 customers that ordered donor kebab after me and were served whilst i was waiting. This was extremely frustrating, but i accepted they were busy and so I cancelled the donor only and asked for my money back. The guy seemed extremely reluctant to miss out on my precious £8.50 and proceeded to imply that the donor meat was now ready. That new, partially frozen donor had been on the spit for approx 10mins, I watched them change it. It was a pale white on the outside, and almost translucent on the inside when they shaved it - absolutely NOT COOKED enough. No way I was going to be disregarded as a customer, have my time wasted whilst my wife waited patiently in the car with our 3 children and then poisoned for the pleasure. I left with the chicken shish and the medium chips in a trusty brown paper bag.And here comes the worst part, which tipped me over the edge and forced me into writing this review.When we got home my wife found a complimentary bonus in the bag, in the form of a baby cockroach. (pictures attached).I accept that these things can happen, and the roach was in the bottom of the brown bag, and our the chips and shish were wrapped separately.But coupled with the absolutely awful customer experience in being completely overlooked and disregarded whilst other customers came and went, being made to wait for so long and taking away only half of our order and paying a premium price for what we did take home - we threw the whole lot in the bin after finding our little surprise, and all went hungry. 45mins of our lives wasted by the time we got home, £16 down and still in need of a meal.I will never order food from here again. I strongly advise the management to consider every customer equally important, and i would highly recommend that they fumigate the establishment ASAP and check every brown bag is free from bugs each and every time before they put take away food inside.

Really good quality take away fish and chips. If you want skate or rock it's best to phone ahead to order as they will cook it fresh while you travel there to collect. Chips portions are extremely generous - 1 medium or 2 small portions are more than enough for two hungry adults.

The high marks awarded to Smiles are baffling to me. We ordered fish and chips for two, asking for salt and vinegar, to take away. At home we tasted no vinegar and little salt, but that was a moot point. The chips were poor and the fish quite tasteless. Far too much stodgy batter made it worse.As the meals were freshly cooked, they should have been far better.

So expensive for what you get🙁😤 won't be going back there in a hurry. Staff look miserable rather like I don't want to be here

I can get 2 bigger pieces of Fish with chips for half the price of this Fish Bar and they cook the Fish when you order

Not the cheapest but great! I’d rather pay a few quid more overall for nicer chips. Portions seem fair. I’m happy I have to pass it on my way home from work as if I fancy fish and chips it’s worth stopping. Easy parking, quick and tasty. Ideal!

Delighted when Smiles opened in Bourne End. They have consistently served me with the highest quality of fish and chips. Don't go anywhere else!

Visit this place fairly often as they cater for gluten free, my wife is celiac. Food is always well cooked and presented. Equally staff are welcoming and caring. There is littke more to add. The fact that it is well patronised says it all.

The restaurant was looking good from outside and I decided to try it out. However, the food+ service were poor. As I was waiting for my meal, I asked them if I can eat inside as it was raining, they replied to me that I didnt pay the price for that!!Not even asked if I am eating inside or its take away. Small fish with cheesy chips almost £9!! I had a better meal in London eating a nicer cod..Wake up people, its Bourne End and the price is quite overpriced for the quality of the food. Visit again? Maybe if they come back to earth and be normal in all levels.

We had an amazing meal and Prosecco is well recommended and staff are very friendly especially Paulo and Teresa.

I go to this shop every week with my husband we always have a good meal they got a very good list of wine and beers . The staff are very good very friendly I give 5 stars to this fish and chips

After a delightful walk along the Thames path I was thrilled at the prospect of rewarding myself with a meal at Smiles, alas this did not live up to expectation.Upon seeing the marine blue signage I picked up my pace to a light jog only to find that restaurant had ceased trading at half 2, devastating news.I can admit that on my part I was s little disorganised in that I had not checked the frying times, but I am an opportunist and tend to roll with the punches as they come.Who knows if I will return but on this visit it I was not impressed.Thanks.

Visited smiles in Bourne End with family and friends a couple of weeks ago and we ate in .Attractive decor , delicious cod and chips , a good size portion and piping hot and friendly service

So we ordered a takeaway for 5 people. It’s about a 10 minute drive from my nans house. Got it home, the curry sauce and mushy peas was missing! So we called them before trying to eat the food. They said we could come back and get the food! Well we opened my dads fish , oil came running out of the packet, and not just a little bit a lot! My sisters fish , she tried putting it on the plate and it was that soaked in oil, the batter came off! My sausage was so greasy, that I couldn’t eat it , so we used a bit of kitchen roll to dry it off and gave it to the dog! The only thing we ate was the chips! We went back down about 15 mins later as had to drive from my nans! Told the manager , he said you have to bring the fish back for me to refund you , was an awful manager , no customer service skills! Safe to say this is awful food, awful service, and even worse management!

Cod beautifully fresh and chunky. Chips really disappointing as not very hot and too thick so not crispy. I'd rather have good cod every time so the best in the area as never got good fish and good chips together. 2 cod and 1 medium chips £13.40

Smiles not a real fish and chip shop.

Had the ribs on a recent visit. They used to be a nice juicy piece of meat but now come sliced and seriously overcooked to the point of being unbeatable. My wife's cod was not too bad but once again overcooked. The quality has definitely gone downhill.

Normally the service is good but the last two visits there was atrocious service, waitress was openly rude. the food is good but not great enough to compensate for horrible service, i’ll Give this shop a wide berth. Avoid!!

Visited alone and had the large cod,very big portion be warned, nice to have the option of a beer as they have a selection of bottled beers or wine. Food was excellent staff are very friendly would recommend.

A superb Chippie with take away and a small restaurant. Friendly service in the restaurant. We had fish and chips, I went for the large fish, which was indeed large!! Excellent quality and very enjoyable and I did manage to finish it. This is a very popular venue, which I think speaks for itself. One minor point they only serve filter coffee, no latte, etc. but this doesn't spoil the meal. Great food and very good value.

By far the best iv had you can eat in ot take out. Canned drinks bit pricey but for the classic it gets top marks

When I think about Friday "Fish and Chips and the weekend always comes to my mind and it is really difficult walking past Smiles and resisting the lovely aroma of fish and chip. Great variety to choose from, good speedy service

We are locals and always like to support our local community. However, after many visits to this establishment, where it be take away or eat in, the fish is certainly not fresh, the taste is almost like it has been frozen. Dry, rubbery no flavour. Chips even on a Friday night were dry and tasteless, that has to say something!

Visited when the restaurant was just opening for the evening. My friend ordered the fish and chips and I had chicken and chips. (I've learnt by past experience not to order the large meal. Even I with a good appetite have problems finishing this.) Both agreed that our meals were excellent, both in quality and quantity. Service is quick and friendly and prices are reasonable. Thoroughly recommended.

Ordered large chips and large cod, very disappointing to find that the chips I received were that of a small portion instead of large one. Very disappointed. It was barely enough chips to feed myself let alone the three people.

Having noticed that this wouldn’t be a cheap meal, I popped in with a work colleague to get something for lunch and ordered large cod and large chips (he ordered pie and chips), when we got back to work we were very disappointed at the paltry amount of chips that we had been given, mine basically were a single layer in the box under the fish, I would hate to see what a small portion is!

Always tasty but, as a result it gets busy but is worth the wait. Never had a meal yet. A nice end to a drive from Warwickshire.

I took my 12 Year old daughter and friend into Bourne End for them to have a spot of lunch together. The purpose of their lunch was to sit and eat without an adult; they were very excited.

Have been using smiles since before it was smiles great as always.

Spent over £10 on two children’s meals and was told if I wanted them in a cardboard container I would have to pay another £1 (after explaining it would aid my young daughter to eat her dinner whilst on the run) I appreciate a pound is not a huge amount but it’s the principle. Every other chippy I’ve used would happily provide one and have done before.

Just bought a burger from this place unfortunately definitely not worth the money. Over cooked and tough as hell! It was as if they made it this morning and heated it up in the microwave! Three is in the bin and ate the bread as I was hungry.

Haven't been here for a while, but pleased the quality of the meals is just as good. I had half a chicken, with salad and chips. There was enough for the hungriest of diners. My companion had fish and chips which was equally as good. The prices are reasonable, the quality is excellent and the staff are friendly. there was a constant flow of customers coming to the shop and restaurant for sit down meals or take away, which speaks for itself. highly recommended.

Eat here a lot ... its nice to eat in and its nice to get a takeaway ..... food is always great and service is always with a smile.

I am not a great fan of fish and chips. So often soggy batter and chips are the order of the day. Not so at Smiles. Freshly cooked the fish is always excellent with crisp batter. As it should be, is served with bread and butter and tea or coffee. Wine is available if you want it. Great service and spotlessly clean. Special prices for seniors like me.

I went in for the first time on Friday with my friend for lunch.There was a few people eating so we waited for a few minutes for a table to be free. We order are food within 5min the food was amazing it look good and tased. Amazing I enjoyed every mouth full please go there when you are in Bourne end. Service is 100% percent.You can also take away.

Immaculate shop where you can eat in. Freshly cooked to order cod (6 minutes) and chips hit the spot. One big fish and one large chips easily fed 2 ladies.

With the Seniors meal in the restaurant you get cod and chips, bread and butter and tea or coffee all for £7.10. Very good value and very tasty too. Although the restaurant was almost full the service was friendly and efficient. The staff seemed to know lots of the customers and so I presume that they eat there regularly - always a good sign.

Me dijeron que este era el lugar para el mejor pescado y patatas fritas en la zona y no creo que vista es equivocar. Hay el fish and chips, pero también hay un pequeño restaurante adjunto. Esto puede ser bastante acogedor como parece muy popular. Tuve un gran bacalao y patatas fritas y fue un gran bacalao! La inundación era excelente, el personal era amable y atento. Muchos de los clientes claramente había sido muchas veces antes. Quizás, para pescado y patatas fritas puede ser m ás caro que otros sitios, pero vale la pena!

Metimos en un día con un amigo y tenía su comida senior con una variedad de bacalao o eglefino, patatas fritas, pan y mantequilla y una taza de té. Todo por un precio muy modesto, recién cocinado, bien servido y no en grasa. Un ambiente agradable con clientes todas charlando el uno con el otro y una camarera simpática. Buena tarifa básica así?

Cada vez que visita puede ser garantizada la comida muy buena calidad y un servicio eficiente. Los precios son razonables.

On the Parade In Bourne End, Smiles served tip-top fish & chips and all the usuals too. Has a bright eat-in dining area adjacent to the fish bar, which appears quite popular.

Excellent fish and chips - friendly and delightful service - took elderly Mum in her wheelchair and they couldn't have been nicer...the food was great.

Always great fish and chips when you get takeaway, but even better when you eat in. You get great service with great food and all for a good price. It's even better value if you are a senior citizen, and you don't have to wash up after dinner!

We normally get our takeaway fish and chips from here and thoroughly enjoy them. But yesterday on a damp afternoon we decided to eat in. It's a small-ish seating area but clean and tidy. The owner and waitress were really friendly and the food tasty. There was a communal feel with the other tables of enjoying traditional tasty food together.

This was our first visit , my Mum has moved to Bourne End so her first meal in her new home was fish and chips and she was very happy as she managed to get rock.

Go into the restaurant section of Smiles. Choose the Senior Citizen Fish, Chips, Bread and Butter and tea. Excellent. The fish portions are good and the Fish and Chips are fresh straight out of the frying pan. Very reasonable price. You will not be disappointed.For a party up to 50 People Smiles will provide the food warm and delicious within a few miles of Bourne End.

I go in here every Friday to get their wonderful haddock and chips for my parents. I place the same order every week, and now the order is plaiced (pun intended) before I even get through the door. Megan remembers exactly what they have and calls the order before I'm even through the door! Fantastic. Seniors get a good discount, and the quality of the food is always wonderful.

We don't get here as often as we used to but last night we popped in and found it to be superb, as always. Everything freshly cooked, smiles on the staff faces (in keeping with the name I guess!) and reasonably priced.Not so easy to park in Bourne End High St these days but there is a public car park within 100 yards or so.

Can't find a better chippie in our extended area......happily just CAN'T !!Staff always friendly, a nice selection of other food on offer too, rock cod, burgers, sausages, ribs & other.You can eat in too if you want, as they have quite a decent sized clean dining area from which they will personally serve you with a loo available for customers use. Busy Friday night, restaurant was packed out full of senior citizens. Cod and chips were no where near as good as previous visits, everything was lukewarm, fish didn't seem as fresh and over battered, the chips were very soggy.Disappointing but filled a hungry hole.We did notice on this visit there was a pile of food ready prepped in the warm counter which may explain why the food wasn't as good.

We have to drive past another fish and chip shop in order to get to Smiles. They produce the best fish and chips.

Well what can I say! The place is called Smiles but yet we didn't get any from any of the staff. Food was very nice though and we had a chance to sit outside which was nice.

Overpriced small portions, served with a scowl. My fish was so small, I genuinely thought I'd been given a child's portion by mistake. When I mentioned it, the man serving said that's how big Cod grow. Needless to say, I won't be back.

Just moved to the area and had to check out the local chippy. Friday night, the queue was out the door, seating was also full.Now I can see why. Everything is cooked fresh and as there is such a high turnover everything is fresh, hot and delicious.Cod was excellent, succulent fish with a light crispy batter, chips were a little soggy but probably drenched in vinegar was the cause. The even sell large bottles of condiments which saves you nipping into the Co-op.Will definitely be back soon.

This is by far one of the best fish and chip restaurants in the area. Just had a gorgeous piece of plaice which was cooked to perfection served with a generous portion of chips. The plaice was cooked to order so it came to the table piping hot. They offer both a take away service and an area where you can sit down and have your order taken, it's then brought to the table by a friendly member of staff. Service was reasonably quick. Downside, the seating area is not very large. Prices are on the higher side.
