This was the first time we had visited the Horse & Jockey for many years. We were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a brightly decorated, comfortable pub with friendly and helpful staff. Five of our family arrived for dinner. The pub had a varied menu that included steak to burgers, chicken and scampi. Importantly, much of the meat was sourced from an excellent local butcher, Halls of Hazlemere. My family all enjoyed our meals, my beer was in good condition, and the staff were friendly. A pleasant evening and we'll be visiting again.

can i just say music and food was absolutely amazing! Cooked incredibly compliments to the cook!! However when i came with my husband i found the boss- heard her name as Alex? Was incredibly rude and condescending, she spoke rudely to us and also overheard her speaking disgustingly to her staff all working hard, i was absolutely taken back by how she spoke to them, bad language spoke to them like animals, she spoke to us in a similar manner making our experience very u comfortable , she was not friendly at all and would not come back!! New management needed!!!!!!!!!!

We turned up for a meal, lunchtime, mid June, quit a few items missing off the menue,I had a steak,my mate had ham eggs and chips,I had a steak, and my wife had a vedgy cottage pie. We had some loaded Nachos to start with a vert tastey tomato salsa, but the avocado lacked flavour and seasoned,a little worcester sauce and salt and pepper would have brought this to life. My steak was fantastic soft succulent and one of the best I've ever had. My mates ham egg and chips had a bit of plastic in it,but it was a little basic, ham off the bone would have raised the level of the meal especially if the meat was hot. My wifes vegetarian cottage pie was cold bland and in need of some bandic seasonings,it a shame she always gets raw deal being a vegetarian. Wouldn't eat here again as the food wasn't tasty enough. Would recomend the steak though.

Well this pub discovered me last weekend, met with friends who have just moved to the area and love the unfussy relaxed vibe, nice couple of parking places, but most locals walk. Nice Sunday roast on offer as well, what is not to like... Doggo friendly? Yes!! Will be back I think, with or with out our friends it was that nice - sort of classic nice time gone by English pub #love it

We were staying in the area for a short time and this pub was a 10 minute walk from our accommodation. Once we discovered it we went quite a few times as it is a friendly place and has an awful lot going for it. The food menu looked fairly standard but we were only there for drinks and they had a good selection. They seem to have a few guest beers and definitely have Timothy Taylors which is one of my favourite breweries and the beers are well kept. The Pub inside is nicely done out and has a good atmosphere but the weather was nice so we made use of the outside area. You can either sit in front of the pub or go to the beer garden at the back which is really nice and there's lots of free parking available on the site.

Went to this pub 20.years ago and it was quite good. Had heard it had slipped somewhat in recent years and wasn't a good place to go to. So after a walk last Saturday we were passing and popped in. Excellent greeting from the young and helpful barman. Beer was superb, well kept and good price. The atmosphere was first class and had the good old fashioned country pub feel that is now so lacking with all the "corporate" designer pubs so prevalent these days. We were impressed to the point that we will return. Oh. And apparently they do occasion live music..... Man and guitar kind of things. So - Recommended

Went to the Horse & Jockey for an early evening mid -week dinner. Our first visit since the refurbishment. Very nice internal decoration and ambience. Four of us ordered different meals. None of them were hot, exacerbated by the fact the plates were cold. We than sat looking at our dirty plates for some time. No-one cleared the plates or offered us dessert/coffee (do they do dessert/coffee?) so we left, probably never to return. Which is a shame because you want these local places to do well, but if they can’t serve hot meals and a decent level of service, they will struggle. And it’s not as if they were busy.

Refurbished offering of a well established village pub. Inside the pub is cosy and friendly with a horseshoe shaped bar. The staff were attentive and friendly. Biggest improvement is the garden which is now comfortable and tidy. Has always served a good pint, the 2 pints of Timothy Taylors I had were exceptional 👌. Food was ok. Simple more than overwhelming. Car park at the side and front (the front had a massive sink hole during the summer which is now repaired).

Proper local pub, standard pub fare in terms of food, the prawns were very nice as was the Bavarian Burger - a frankfurter and sauerkraut were welcomed! Staff are super friendly, and they have recently renovated and we're planting more in the gardens today, a nice spot for a drink when the weather is good. This is not wheelchair accessible, and the parking is limited at the moment due to the car park over the road being mostly blocked off.

We had haddock and the fish was ok, but small. The chips were over cooked and possibly in stale oil. There was a menu choice of garden peas or mushy peas, but we had not noticed this and were not offered a choice. We were given mushy peas...not my favourite. The table was so sticky you had to pluck the glass from it. In the heatwave and temperatures of 30 degrees, some windows could not be opened as the handles had broken...and this was about 9 weeks into the heatwave...plenty of time for the owners to address the situation. Another customer said that a few nights ago, they hadn't been able to open the windows. I'm sure this story was repeated many times over the past 9 or so heatwave weeks....and the owners have done nothing. This shows a poor not-bothered attitude. During or after the meal when I paid, no-one asked "how was it?".

The choice of drinks was ok, the staff not as friendly as we expect as well. Inside looks quite cramped but is ok. Then a friend arrived to bring his child and was not too happy to see the conditions of the playground. Why having it if it's derelict? This same friend asked for a liqueur which was served max 25ml, instead of 50 ml, and charged fully. His glass was a joke, you barely could see the drink inside. When complaining, was told off by the owner himself, so I do not recommend, as there are much better around!

Four of us from out of area dropped into this pub for lunch. We sat in the garden as the weather weather was good. We ordered food and this was brought out to us. The food was tasty and well priced. When I went back in to order post lunch tea and coffee I reminded them of our table number but was told very sharply "you have to take them out yourself. We don't bring drinks out." I had to ask for a tray (4 drinks). When a lady came to clear the table I said "can I say something". She said aggressively "you can say what you want". I expressed the view that asking a customer to carry 4 hot drinks outside, including opening a heavy door, was dangerous and had I spilt some and scalded myself this would have been a problem for all concerned. This was said in a calm manner - no shouting, no bad language. She said "I'll get the manager - I don't like being spoken to like that". Another lady arrived, apparently the manager, and asked what was the problem. I told her. She said they don't have the staff to bring drinks outside. The customer must do it. This lady was scruffy, rude and totally uncompromising. She eventually said sorry through gritted teeth. I do not expect such rude and appalling treatment. Eat indoors if you want to stay safe and not be insulted.

Caribbean curry needed to be returned to kitchen as it arrived tepid, and it was very bland - not at all fruity or spicy as described on menu. In addition to this, l left with a very sticky sleeve and underside of trainers where a spill hadn’t been hadn’t been cleaned properly.

Arrived at the premier inn to stay away for work, went to the brewers fayre. I walked in and was told they have a limited menu due to shortages of food. Wasn't given a menu of the limited menu even just habit of a4/a5 bit of paper so we could see what was on offer. We then sat for around 15-20 minutes before someone came over to ask for drinks and they only came over because we prompted to do so. After drinks and food was ordered drinks turned up a further 15 minutes later and again I had to go to the bar to get it. If the restaurant was busy I would understand however it was empty. I ordered the big stack burger and it came out scorched with the tiniest dollop of sauce in the burger. The second night we weren't greeted at the door we had to wait 10 -15 minutes before someone came and took us to our seats. Overall not great, which is a shame as I have eaten at brewers fayre before and it's really good service and food. So I'm putting this experience to a "bad week".

Lovely setting, food not bad either. Staff are very friendly. Setting is pleasant. However, when I went there were some idiots swearing too much for my liking. Not making it suitable for couples or families. Pity, I'm sure it's just a one off though. I would take my gf here on another day.

I went to celebrate my birthday with friends and we had the Festive Cream Tea. I had booked a time previously. When we got there a table was all ready for us in front of the Xmas tree, hot drinks came promptly followed by the freshly prepared cream tea. It was absolutely delicious! The amount of food was perfect and not too sweet! We had a lovely time and weren’t made to feel rushed at all. I regularly have lunch here, the staff are friendly and food nicely prepared.
