The Best Fish & Chips I’ve had in ages! The shop is spotless and service was quick ! The Fish is not too greasy and the Batter was a perfect crisp!

We used to make regular orders from their website but the latest episode and put us of ever eating here again. They left fish out of our order which meant two guests had to share a meal. I tried dozens of times to call their number (on the website and receipt). They kept cutting off the call. I ended up having to make an hour round trip to try and resolve the issue only to be totally ignored by the manager with the beard. At the time he seemed to be dealing with another two complaints, one for wrong order, one for a 40 minute wait. I asked to speak to the manager with the beard and tattoos - he totally ignored me. I asked if this could be sorted out and why they're not answering the phone. The assistant said it's because they're too busy (That's also their order line). I got totally ignored by the manager and indeed, spoken over while he was giving instructions to his staff. How frustrating to have people ignoring a valid complaint plus zero compensation for ruining the night with my guests and a (not cheap) meal.

Wrong order. I wasn’t given what I ordered for a mobile order takeaway. I called to explain and asked for a refund of the item I wasn’t given. Was told to e-mail and it would be dealt with. No response The fish was dry and the batter thick. The chips were luke warm. I am not sure if the management has changed, or they have a staff recruitment and training challenge, but the previous consistency we have enjoyed over the last 15 years no longer exists, if other reviews are to be considered

Been getting takeaways from here for years, but tonight was called an idiot, refused service and finally threatened for complaining about a 40 minute wait for an order I had paid for in person. Manager/owner said he would “do me around the corner”, in front of my daughter - have filed police report. From other comments here and on Facebook, this is not the first time he has been aggressive and verbally abused customers for complaining. The man is a bully, plain and simple. I feel sorry for anyone who works here.

The portions are good and the fish is skinned and tasty. The service can be a bit slow in person as I think the online orders consume the staff but overall I’ve been going here for a few years and the food is good. The staff are a bit hit and miss and it depends who is serving as to the service gained and there doesn’t appear to be a regular person out the front serving so it’s hard to get consistency but overall it’s a good place.

We travel from Gerrards Cross to get the very good fish and chips provided by Smiles. The fish is consistently good and the excellent chips are servived in enormous portions. Smiles serve the best fish and chips in the area - and even managed to cater for an outside event where everyone enjoyed the quality of the food that they managed to keep really hot.

Have been going to the Beaconsfield shop for many years but never on a Saturday early evening. Lad serving was very inattentive and made you feel like you were a nuisance. Despite me being the only person in the shop I had to wait in the side room! After waiting about 10 minutes I wandered in to see what was happening to my order . Which was not much as the lad was out the back and the fryer was cleaning the equipment! I enquired and got a reply in a language I didn’t understand!! But again told to go to the side room and wait! I then realised my fish was just being cooked and I came to the counter to collect! The lad then gave me an old piece of fish and I said I wanted the fresh first fish I had waited for. There was mutters and mumbling from both staff members and eventually my order was banged on the counter with not a word uttered. Shocking attitude all round. Shame as the food was ok!

Appalling experience in Smiles tonight for not just me but another online orderer as well. Both waiting patiently for our orders for about 10mins and ignored by all staff. When approached by the owner and calmly explaining our dissatisfaction, we were met by a very rude and stroppy man. When I said we have supported Smiles for years (15 to be precise) but I would not be coming back, the owner responded “I don’t give a f***.” Bad day or not, short staffed or not, absolutely shocking way to speak to customers - Beaconsfield Old Town Fryer from now on.

Sorry guys but the fish and chips you served us tonight 10th Dec in Beaconsfield was not very good. The fish was quite dry and mainly batter, we are a regular customers on a Friday. Had it been in a restaurant we would of sent it back.

Had spring roll ,if you could call it that. I don't normally do anything like this however it was so anaemic and the content looked like deep fryed sick so so disappointing that a chip shop i have used for over 40 years will never be used by myself or the friends that were with me again

The food as a whole is great with great prices. I recommend any fish and chips and the Southern chicken burger as the best, and of course everyone that works there is very attencious.

Very disappointed after a busy business conference popped in to smiles Beaconsfield to take buy cod fish cakes and chips, did say upon ordering want battered fish cakes the usual chip shop style fish cakes but then when reached venue with business clients they were neither so it was very disappointing and ruined experience completely. Been busy with work only got to time to write this review now. The fish cakes were tasting odd and not what we wanted.

We ordered online to collect and stay COVID safe. Took the order home only to find half was missing. Once can be forgiven, but this has now happened twice to us. We were told that they get confused with a large order. Three portions of chips, 2 cod, 1 scampi and 1 children's meal is not exactly a complicated or large order. This must be a fairly standard order for a fish and chip shop.

Very rude and dirty looking man serving, trying to tell me chips cooked 10mins ago were fresh and then getting extremely rude with me. Delighted that I walked out and both he and the experience was enough to know I’ll never go back! Awful service. Plenty of other places to go instead!

Regularly order from smiles, the portions are very generous! the large portion of chips is enough to feed a family of 4. Would recommend.

I have been going to Smiles for over 35 year and this was the worst takeaway meal I have had there, so disappointing, the chicken was over cooked and dry.

Welcoming little family-friendly fish & chip restaurant for table service or takeaway. Dishes are freshly prepared and served in generous portions. Decor is bright and cheerful, and very clean toilets.

Don't know what has happened to Smiles I asked for large portion of chips and received a small soggy warm portion and cod must have been sitting for a while as was barely warm and served by what seem inexperienced staff very disappointed!! Have been a regular customer for the last 19 years and this is the second time this has happened

Having had 5 mins spare to collect my one daughter from Tuition and another ravenous 8yr old with me- on a freezing dark winter night- I decided to quickly pop in to Smiles and buy my daughter a small portion of chips to tie her over till dinner time. I was served by a friendly girl(who was clearly new as she was corrected re:chips sizes by another member of staff) I took the portion of chips, wrapped in paper and sat down. Within 2 minutes of sitting down I was approached by two male members of staff(one v aggressive!) telling me that I'm sitting in the 'restaurant' side and I ordered a take away. I was never asked if I wanted take-away or sit-in and didn't even know it was a restaurant- just looked like a local chippy, just like the local seaside ones! I was then asked to pay more if I wanted to stay sitting there or leave. Had I been ASKED, sit in or take-away, I would've happily payed extra to sit-in, instead I was accused of deliberately buying a 'take-away' to pay less money but then sit in the 'restaurant' side. I wrapped up the v bland chips and left with my then very confused and teary 8yr old who then apologised for being 'hungry'. Needlesstosay - first and last visit.

Consistently good take away fish and chips with friendly staff. It can get busy on Friday evenings, but this is a sign of its popularity. As the title suggests, try the home made fishcakes.

Smiles have always done the best veggie cheese pasty for miles around. I specifically would go there for it. Pasty was large in size, with beautifully crimped pastry - just like Cornish ones. NO LONGER!! Replaced by a bland veggie slice that was disgusting and appeared either over baked or microwaved too long! Smiles what have you done...Get back to your hey day please or you will be joining Waitrose at Marlow in the scrap heap!

Disgusting fish, skate for 7.35 and got it home this eve and it was luck a face hugger off alien, very dried out as if it had been cooked hours ago! Ruined what was meant to be a celebration dinner for me!WOULD NOT RECOMMEND and have been using smiles in beaconsfield for over a decadeAndy irving

Have been using smiles for over 25 years and they have always been consistently good. Not tonight, ordered large chips a pie and a sausage. Chips were stone cold and RAW in the middle, pie was like a brick and cold in the middle. Utterly shocking and disappointing.

We went yesterday evening for a takeaway, on a whim after a drink at the pub opposite. Very friendly staff. I chose rock salmon which was cooked to perfection, and the chips were delicious and plentiful - such a huge portion that I have kept a few for a chip butty today!

Good food, always served quickly though not much in the way of banter from the people serving. Like the chicken and chips with curry sauce. A little more expensive than other fish and chip shops though I guess it is due to the town it is located in.

My 11 year old daughter and her friend were looking forward to having fish and chips here today as a special treat on their own. The place opens at 11:30am.

We ordered the haddock, so cooked fresh in 6-7 minutes- nice tasting flaky fish in good batter. Good portion of chips even in senior size order- good value and good tasting. Nicely packed in take out box.

Been to this restaurant many times before both to sit down and eat as well as using the takeaway. But service has has become apaulling. Friday evening, yes a busy time but they should know this....order not difficult to do, large cod and chips and a smoked haddock fishcake and chips, 25 minutes later and after they had served everybody else including customers who arrived after me I finally got my food. Not impressed and to add insult to injury, when I got home discovered it was a salmon fishcake ! I feel sorry for the young staff they have serving as they were clearly embarrassed by the length of time it was taking. Go somewhere else

I have both eaten at Smiles as well as used it as a takeaway. On sunny evenings the al fresco atmosphere if one enough. Usually we ask for fish that has to be cooked fresh and this helps.

We have visited Smiles almost every week for about 6 years and I am always so impressed by the quality of the food and the friendly service. The fish & chips is the best ever. Prices extremely reasonable. Good range of options. Also do a delicious vegetarian spring roll.

Lunchtime Friday bought large haddock with large chips. Haddock batter needed a hammer to break with no fish for our effort... the chips were attached to the paper and soggy, tasteless and ended up in recycling bin!! Waste of £9.95 it was all supposedly cooked fresh to order in our opinion it was refried to a crisp!!! Never again

A family visit to Smiles on a mid-week evening delivered a delicious experience. We opted to dine-in and although the décor is very functional, the food is delicious and the service is good. Highly recommended.

The fish and chips are consistently delicious with lovely crispy batter. Nothing fancy just good honest food.

Again the chips are "bits" obviously - they are economising on what they buy. Don't understand why they do this periodically - do they think we will just put up with poor quality? Not sure that I will bother to go there again - not worth the cost

We had the pensioners menu. Very good service and good value. My wife's plaice was large and one the best she has ever had.

I never quite understand why people rave about this place. The batter on the fish is never crispy enough and the chips are often tasteless. However, everything is very fresh, hot and clean and they make some interesting dishes rather than sticking to the tried and tested.

Called in here Friday evening for supper with my father. Great experience! My father had the senior cod and chips which was great value including a cup of tea and bread and butter. I had the half chicken and chips which was a generous portion and very nice and serviced with a side salad. The serving staff were excellent. .

Delicious classic fish and chips. Fast service, do not have to wait long for a takeaway, even when busy. Nice seating area separated from the takeaway counter. Excellent price, my go to place for fish and chips.

On a very long journey for a business trip, myself and my two colleagues looked for a place to grab a quick bite on our route through Beaconsfield, we drove past smiles twice thinking it was a dentist , until finally stopping to google chip shop Beaconsfield, after finding the shop we went inside to be greeted with a young lad who although obviously untrained and not confident was actually polite, then to be served by an older chap with greying hair who was quite rude, nevertheless we ordered food and took it outside to eat. Upon opening the food we found it to be very small and packaged in polystyrene which taints the taste of the food, a box or paper wrap would be much more pleasant and traditional. In a world where people’s expectations are high and the whole chip shop experience is one of tradition, the place is in the past and as a customer I only felt like a hinderance. It’s 2017, people know good food these days and expect a smile, how ironic.....

The food quality is always good although portion size can vary. As sometimes the large cod is not much bigger than the regular cod. Chips can be a be short from smaller potatoes used. BUT all taste great, cooked nicely by friend staff. No big complaints just observations above be back again. Be great if they can ensure large is noticeable larger than medium!

Sadly we found that twice recently the quality of the food, and quantity, has definitely gone down and now hesitant to recommend it. ie if 2 people having coffee or tea instead of having a small pot each, now it is one pot to share , also portion sizes decreased and as for the chips - mainly bits rather than proper chips. Will try it again but if it has not improved will vote with feet. Come on Smiles, don't lose your good reputation.

Once again excellent cod and chips! As good as any I have had (and I love my fish and chips). Fresh cooked for each order. Very popular on Friday evenings so get there early, or late. Sit outside in Summer and enjoy people/car watching!

WOW what a great find for fish and chips 5 of us met up there the waitress was so helpful and friendly and the food was really good freshly cooked and quick service and the homemade tartar sauce was really good so if even in beaconsfield new town pay them a visit

Pre ordered a bulk order for a local charity fundraising event we were holding on a Friday night, obviously also their busiest time.Food delicious, delivered on time to our requested location and they threw in a voucher to help us with our fundraising event.Brilliant, will definitely use them again.

My Wife and I invariably visit Smiles when we fancy a fish and chip meal as we have never been disappointed after at least ten years visiting their place in Beaconsfield. Welcoming, well managed and good, well cooked food at affordable prices. The scampi is my favourite and cod for my Wife and we particularly like the batter which is dry and not soggy like so many other shops.

What more is there to say? Really nice, good quality fresh fish and chips. Always very busy on a Friday evening but fish generally cooked fresh for each order and mountains of lovely chips! Yum

All five of us for fifty quid - including wine/fizzy drinks/teas and mushy peas! And perfectly fried without any grease - with a non-battered grilled cod option for my elderly mum - and sitting down inside without reeking of chip fat! What more could you want on a Friday evening???

My wife and I ate here lunch time on the 7th April 2017. We were served a lovely young waitress who was more than helpful. I have to say this was the best fish and chips I have ever had in my 61 years on this planet. We both loved it! £21 for cod and chips with a pot of tea was in my opinion worth every penny. We shall certainly be using smiles on a regular basis from now on!!!!!

5 of us visited for a sit down lunch and to start it was a bit tricky as there was only one option in the small diner to pull tables together to accommodate us and two ladies were sitting there. After a little discussion they kindly moved for us and we sat down. The diner is not huge so if you are a group you may get split. Asking the staff to kindly ask to reseat the two ladies initially felt a bit of an ask for them but they did it and then things kind of really looked up.The girl serving was lovely and the guy cooking friendly.The food pretty faultless, good size fish and nice quality. Well presented.Eat in was £12.5 each including drinks and a tip. If you are visiting Beaconscot Model Village this is very close and fits together as a plan . No complaints will go again.

Great tasting food, prepared fresh! You won't be disappointed. I go for lunch every Friday and in the school holidays my family insist on coming to the office to see me, or that's what they say... I think it's more about have a chip butty at Smiles.

Hubby and I go there quite often and I can honestly say that we have never had a dodgy plate of Fish & Chips. Restaurant is always clean - although a bit tight for space. Young staff are always very cheerful ......... cannot fault the food or staff ........best fish & chips around.

Smiles loose one star as a pickled onion was given, when a pickled egg was order and the other star for the quality of the cod. The fish was dry - either old or frozen. The batter however was very good and crispy and the chips were proper chip shop chips. Mushy peas were very good. All in all not a terrible visit, just no better than average at the moment.

The food here is very good,though I can`t vouch for the chips,as I never have them.However,if you sit at the table opposite the serving counter,you run the risk of damaging your eyesight.Without warning,the waitress put this on,in order to grill some cheese.It was like being a rabbit in the headlights,and left me with a really bad headache,and unable to drive home for about ten minutes. Not much sympathy from the staff-we need the grill.It is not a grill,as normal people think of one,but looks like LED lighting.A really bad place to have one,without protection for the customers.The older generation use this place a lot.Be prepared,and take protection.Or sit somewhere else. The fish is good though,which makes this problem a great pity.I have eaten there a lot,and they do a Seniors menu,which is good value,but they need to sort this out.

Had the urge for fish and chips whilst passing through the area and found this gem of a place. Fish cake (salmon) and chips with curry sauce as a treat and is was nothing short of delicious! Chips cooked to perfection.Offers eat in / take away so I opted to eat in. Spotlessly clean location. Very friendly staff!Highly recommended.

Their fish is lovely. Fresh and tasty and lacks the twang that most places serve up. The home made pies are great and a must buy. Not just pastry but full meat and very tasty. I had chicken during my last visit and it was really nice. Tasty and a good portion. Would highly recommend Smiles. I used to shop at the Old Town Fish shop but they are always closed and their fish isn't as fresh. A must visit Smiles!!!

This is a fish and chip stop with a restaurant. We use it for takeaway when we want Fish and Chips.They do a good range of fish and other options. The fish is freshly cooked and they serve good portions in a box which is easily transportable. The fish is wrapped in parchment paper and put on top of the chips so that the oil does not seep through, sometimes a few of the chips go soft but this is not the restaurants fault as they do everything to stop this with their packaging. The staff are polite and friendly. I have never eaten in the restaurant but it looks very clean and tidy.

Great food and very friendly staff. I used to buy my fish and chips in the old town but I've since switched. The Rock is amazing.

Smiles . What has gone wrong from the best to worst .l have been coming here once a week food always good but my visit today awfull fish greasey chips soggy portions half too what they were.no more visits for awhile .

Over the last few years Smiles has really upped its game and its fish and chips are now of excellent standard. You might want to think twice before ordering a large portion of chips though, as the mountain of chips I was served this week would easily have fed two ravenous aldults.

Quite frankly there is NO other chippie in the area that beats this one. We live 12 minutes drive away and if we want fish and chips we will drive to get it from here! The batter is light and crunchy - not that horrid flat slab of batter you get in a lot of chippies around here!!! Chip are lovely too - not all crunchy bits! Try it and you will never want fish and chips from anywhere else!

Well normally go to the old town.but had to go to smiles. That's the last time I go there soggy chips and soggy fish. chips were 1 lump of mashed chips my dog wouldn't eat the fish either. SORRY OLD TOWN FIRER WILL BE BACK SOON.

An occaisional lazy take out treat, hot, fresh fish and chips, it always looks busy when you drive by so must be consistent. Can't comment on the 'eat-in' but the take away is good.

There are two f these restaurants the other one is at Bourne End. Both have excellent food. No greasy or soggy chips. All freshly cooked. Nice clean place but a little squashed in the seating areaThey also provide senior and children meals. Not just fish

Have been coming here for years & it never disappoints!!! Have never eaten in but take away is always fast, friendly & yummy!!! It's also very reasonable for when I've not got time to cook! Our personal favourite is their battered sausages!!! Just delicious

To be honest I'm not a great lover of fish and chips so when my wife, who was working in an office opposite, asked me to join her at Smiles for lunch I was somewhat apprehensive. I needn't have been. The fish and chips I received were possibly the best I've had anywhere. The food was very well presented. As well as the fish and chips we had a small salad and a ramekin of tartare sauce.The batter was light and crisp and the chips come in there own wire basket. In addition we had bread and butter and a pot of tea. My main problem with fish and chips is that often after eating them you feel as though your mouth and throat have been coated in cold grease. Not this time! Wonderful!. We sat in the restaurant,(basic but extremely clean), and the waiting staff and manager couldn't have been more pleasant and attentive.

We've been going to Smiles for some years off and on and it's always lovely and clean, with freshly-cooked food available. The only reason I didn't give it five dots is that it's a bit pricey.

The fish & chips are well cooked and reasonable value - particularly for Pensioners - but the seating area is rather limited. OK for a quick and good value meal but not a place to linger

We go for the "seniors special" from time to time and it is really good. My wife cannot manage the full amount so settles for a children's portion which is more than enough for her. I agree that the seating area gets crowded but it shows how popular it is, as it deserves to be.

Smiles are by far the best chippy in Beaconsfield. Particularly as they skin the fish before frying. Very good portion size, and good kids portions too.

Having been an expat living overseas for some years whenever I return to these shores I endeavour to sample those Brtish dishes we miss the most especially being able to pop down to the 'Chippy' Having recently returned and staying in Beaconsfield I came across Smiles and resolved to try them at the first opportunity.I was not disappointed...a very large cod, good portion of chips along with mushy peas...nice crisp batter, tasty fish and no queue in the shop!Look forward to the next visit!

Have been going there for years and the food was always exemplary, however I get the feeling they're economising as the food sometimes has a slightly bitter after-taste, which I think is due to infrequent oil changes. Portions good and value seems good as ever. Come on guys, pull your socks up!

Having ordered lovely takeaway here before we decided to eat in. We were put in a crammed in corner, so squashed you could have understandably felt claustrophobic! The service was quite slow, hard to catch the waiters attention. We ordered food like what we normally get for takeaway, what we got was comparably substandard. The plate of fish and chips was covered in greasy salad. Not worth eating in, do yourself a favour and just order takeaway!

Very welcoming manager and staff. First class fish and chips. Restaurant is unpretentious, but clean and comfortable. The restaurant food always taste fresh. No better place to eat if you want a good traditional fish and chip meal. Also, has a very small selection of wines. Great value.

I rated your shop as five star but your fish shop in Bourne end is now down to 1tars due to my visit on a Saturday dinner ordered cod a chip this part ok , take away open start to eat to my surprise find I have to tail ends of fish together making up my fish, as I was already out of the area could not return . if this is the type of thing they have to do to make a profit . I as one will not be returning to that shop again, on saying that have had no problems with Beaconsfield shop . I would like recommend your business but feel you are let down by Bourne end shop. standards are high in one shop drop in the other
