Sky's Diner in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Avoid!! Staff are so so rude! I wish I read all the reviews before we went in there. Cups were filthy, milk was off and had lumps in but when I asked to change it the young lady got in a mood when I asked for clean cups and fresh milk as if that was a lot to ask for in a place that serves it! Asked twice as everything they gave me was disgusting. She snatched the cup out of my hand both times.! Ended up leaving. Ruined our day out. Whole place is filthy and packed of dogs. Chef was out stroking a dog in his apron then went back to making food in the same apron covered in dog hairs. Maybe employe staff that are happy to do their job and actually want to work instead of stand around talking. And staff that understand basic hygiene. Not sure how it’s a five star? Shouldn’t be allowed to serve anything!

We've been here quite a few times during previous visits and it's always been a favourite but feel quite let down following our latest visit. The waitress didn't take note of who arrived when (even though it wasn't busy) and served others who arrived after us first which was a bit irritating but not the end of the world. The food was overpriced. My Husband had a cooked breakfast which was okay, nothing special and I had pancakes with maple syrup and bacon. I know that's a sweet dish obviously but oh my goodness, it was hideously sweet. What the menu didn't state was that the pancakes are sugared ones with crunchy crystallised sugar so it was just total sugar overload and disappointing. No one asked how our meals were so we didn't say anything as wasn't worth the hassle. Won't return anytime soon

Lovely food at a higher price but location and quality ingredients i assume dictate the price. Possibly the worst customer service we have ever recieved. Felt so uncomfortable throughout the duration of our visit.

We went in today with our little shih tzu poppy. The service was amazing. They made such a fuss of poppy even getting her a bit of cheese from the kitchen. So kind. The breakfast bagels were lovely with really quality meats. Service was really quick. Also reasonably priced. Every member of the team was just lovely. Thank you so much!

Avoid at all cost rude staff with no customer service skills whatsoever!!. We came across this place whilst on holiday. Just a shame I've had to give 1 star I personally would of marked it minus 10. Not a great impression when we walked in 3 tables empty but all full of plates from the previous customers, staff stood around chatting behind counter not attempting to clear them. So we clearded a table and sat down. There was 5 of us, the table of 4 on the next table only had 2 people on it. So we politely asked could we take the spare chair they said yes no problem. Started to look through the menu. When young girl came to the table and said would 2 of us move to another table, I explained we was all together and would like to eat together. To be told WE don't allow chairs to be moved, it wasn't blocking anyone or in the way. As we got up to walk out, the girl who had come over to us stood with another girl laughing. Actually they did us a favour found a lovely clean place to eat that accommodated us with a table for 5.

Staff 1 Star Food 1 Star Price 1 Star Prawn Sandwiches served minus the additional salad leaf filling. Told the waitress who simply said "maybe we ran out", no offer to change the order or anything. Upon paying I was asked "was everything ok". I politely replied "no" and was met with, "oh, sorry", no offer that most establishments who care usually offer such as a price reduction, free coffee or cake etc, just a half hearted insincere "sorry". The only way to have got some redress would of been to kick up a fuss but that's not me so I'll just never go there again. The place is probably a gold mine because of location which is lucky, because in an ordinary town minus tourists, it would not last 5 minutes!

We used to often call in to Skys for lunch especially during the winter for a coffee but how the place has changed !!! The pricing for a simple sandwich has gone through the roof and after a couple of occasions we have seen the poor service delivered consistently. Yesterday it was raining and of course all cafes were busy as holiday makers get out of the rain . We entered and were rudely told there is one table left but we would have to wait for it to be cleared ( three staff chatting behind the counter ) , we sat down rather than stand as many people were coming in & out . We asked to see the menu again told rudely it’s on the blackboard on the walls - this way works of course if no one in the cafe is standing up of course yesterday many were so difficult to read the menu . We walked out and gave up !! We walked across the road to a well known established Italian restaurant, received excellent service , had lunch for the same price as a sandwich relaxed and friendly- what a difference in two places . Needless to say we wouldn’t recommend Skys Diner .

My wife and I were there while on holiday a couple of times last year and enjoyed the experience so we popped in again today for lunch. Staff were great, service was quick and food was good, can’t fault anything there. Unfortunately the problem is the price. We had two crab sandwiches and two lattes which came to £39.90 which I think is too expensive. We are here until Saturday and like last year would have liked to have made this our eating base, but we won’t be back again. It was noticeable that they weren’t anything as busy as last year, I wonder why?

Food was brilliant. Staff on the till very rude and arrogant resorting to shouting at people. We joined the queue and the lady in the queue suggested we made ourselves known so I went in and immediately was shouted at to get back in line as there was a queue. Flabbergasted as I was,I stupidly got back in the queue. Shock I think with the attitude. After 10mins they offered us a table for two next to the WC. We declined but said we were happy to wait for another table to come free. Even then I didnt imagine it getting worse but it did. After a further 10mins we were shown to a table and sat down to order 2full breakfasts and 2drinks. While waiting to order the waitress stopped at a table of 4 to take their order. She took it then petted the dog, had a little chat and wandered off. She never even looked around to see if anybody was waiting for her. It seemed to me that she would take one order, take it up then disappear for 5minutes before moving on to the next customer. I know this because when she had finished taking our order and I had verbally complained she did the same method with the people on the next table who were also waiting. Our final insult from this establishment was when I went to pay said shouty lady said she needed to inform me that she was adding a 10% surcharge !!! For what I had said. I asked what it was I had said. She would not or could not say. I disagreed with her on the service charge due to bad service and she said she would not refund. She advised me to complain on tripadvisor. But heres the thing ! I got out the shop and scrutinized the bill. There was NO service charge added. Do you think she was just being nasty for the sheer hell if it? On closer look at the bill I see she is the Manager. Words fail me. Oh one more thing. I will never, ever darken the doors, queue, wc. Again.

Very nice place with friendly and helpful staff who were very helpful. There were particularly helpful with our young daughter which was greatly appreciated.

Most delicious breakfasts! We had a vegetarian breakfast, a full English and a pancakes with bacon and syrup, all were hot and delicious, staff were lovely, welcoming and friendly.

The young staff serving on Easter Sunday were rude and unprofessional. Shouting at my 3 year old when she pointed to the sign and asked me what it says, telling her not to touch. Another asked me why I was pushing in when I was queuing to eat in not for take away. Made entire queue feel very awkward. Our group of 9 left before being seated as left a bad taste! Poor service !

Amazing diner….. managed to sit at the one table with a view👌 The food was excellent…. Had a vegan sandwich …. Very generous filling, very tasty and made with care, the lady who made it, brought it to our table with pride. The cream tea, also delicious and generous, and a great price. Looking fwd to going again, when we visit.

Popped in for lunch on a busy, sunny March day in St Ives. Seating quickly filled up as well as take-away service. Handled calmly and efficiently. Excellent friendly service, delicious sandwiches and coffee. Wide range of options, pasties, cakes and treats to enjoy. Took a piece of brownie away with us - yummy!

Called in for a lunch time snack as it said on the board outside that they do Crab Sandwiches, which I was really looking forward to. When I came to order I was told that there wasn't any. Really I replied this is a fishing village! Couldn't believe it. I ordered a different sandwich which to be honest was ok. The girls had the soup which was spoiled by the amount of black pepper in it. When i payed as we left I was told by the young lady that they had not had any crab all week due to the fact that the fisherman were not able to go out because of the weather. It's their lively hood young lady they do. Please don't treat your customers as idiots. Also if you don't have something please don't advertise it. You are getting people in under false pretences. Shall avoid in the future.

Sad to say Sky's Diner is another place that seems to have taken it's eye off the ball in my opinion.We as a family always went to Sky's Diner when we were in St Ives (twice a year for 30 years)as it was good value food at a good price.On our latest experience we might think again.The staff are always great and friendly though

We popped in early on Christmas Eve for quick drink and breakfast; such a lovely place!! Andi served us and was just the nicest! Lovely hot chocolate and the bacon sandwich was spot on. ❤️

Tuna Bagette with a decent sized size salad was fairly good. £10 but it's St Ives. My wife's Tuna Baked Potato was also decent. Would have been 4 stars but with a decent sized menu, there were very few Gluten Free options. It's 2023, and most places have much better GF options now

we have visited here for the last several years when we pop to st ives, such a shame its getting very pricey now, i understand overheads but heres a thought....... rather than pay your staff to stand behind the counter on their mobile phones checking social media maybe get them to look after your PAYING customers better, The food is not anything special and the service is getting very poor , shame really, dout we will visit again as plenty of other cafes serving food

The food here is always excellent and we make always ensure we make a pit stop whilst in St Ives. We usually stop for lunch and can highly recommend the paninis and sandwiches which are full of flavour. Today we had the full English breakfast and it was wonderful. The sausages and hash browns are to die for! Cannot wait to return next year!

I had the crab sandwich, £13.95 white meat crab but I like the brown meat as well. Not much filling and small slices of granary bread no salad either 1 quarter of lemon extortionate price really, hubby had the tuna sweetcorn panini and a sausage roll which was nice. Wouldn’t recommend as far too expensive for what you received.

Not tried this cafe yet so bought a pasty to go, (important note, if buying to consume off the property buy it from the street through the window?, even if you have entered the cafe!). Unfortunately the steak pasty had soggy pastry, was full of vegetables of the mushy variety and contained, wait for it… one piece of meat. I kid you not, one small piece. Overall not an experience I will not be repeating. St Ives, lovely 😊

We visited Sky’s Cafe looking for real Cornish pasties for dinner, and it did not disappoint. Delicious food, and fast service

Lovely little cafe. We had a sandwich, which was very nice. Staff seemed lovely. Just thought it unnecessary for the server to ask very loudly if I wanted another tap water. I don’t drink hot drinks and just had water with my lunch, my husband had a couple of coffees.

We always visit Sky's Diner when in St Ives as the food is great and all the staff are really friendly and helpful (on a previous visit, they popped to the shop to get marshmallows when they had run out and our toddler asked for them in his hot chocolate!). Another delicious lunch today; the chorizo, goats cheese and chilli chutney was particularly yummy! If I have one piece of advice for visitors, it is get there early for lunch as it fills up pretty quickly.

Great little cafe near the harbour in St Ives - our breakfast was delicious and the staff were all really friendly and helpful.

Poor Customer Service Our visit to Sky's Diner was a letdown. Despite our group of four wanting to try the place, we encountered rude treatment. My 6-year-old daughter wanted crispy squid from another shop, which we brought along. However, the lady with curly hair, who served our coffees, rudely snapped at my daughter, stating, "YOU CAN'T EAT THAT HERE!" We asked to leave, but were told we couldn't without paying since our order was ready. The lady at the counter was equally impolite. We do not recommend dining here due to the unprofessional and rude staff. Fortunately, The Yellow Canary provided a much better experience with exceptional customer service.

Excellent service. Excellent egg and bacon ciabatta. High quality and even the presentation was excellent!

The staff seemed to barely know what was going on. The food was also really sub standard. The decor of the cafe made us think we’d get a lovely meal but it was actually really disappointing. Dry, limp salad and an unimpressive ‘toastie’. Cheese on top of the sandwich is never a good idea.

St Ives, is one of those places we all wished we lived, it’s has almost everything and that little bit more such as “ Sky Diner” between all the charm, tiny alleyways, early morning shops, small restaurants, and the smells of food being made ready...

Being local we thought we’d head down to St Ives (from Newquay) Before the holiday season starts and what’s a lovely day it was! We decided to grab a pasty for lunch and had lots of takeaway choice but opted for sky’s diner. We were served through the window and asked for pasties, the lady behind the window asked if we’d like them warmObviously we said yes.... on goes the microwave!!!!!! Set in the cobbled streets of this very busy seaside town. Quite small but tables are well spaced. Ordered afternoon cream tea, 2 scones cream and jam, so huge that we shared it. All the cakes looked homemade and delicious, I could have just sat there and worked my way through the lot. Staff are really efficient and friendly. Menus on blackboards. Can’t wait to go back for lunch when I’m feeling really hungry.

This place looked lovely and the staff seemed happy and professional however the food was very underwhelming! I had the pigs in blankets special assuming it would be hot...tepid instead. The Cornish pasty was hot but over cooked. All in the food was average. When paying the woman also handled food whilst using the card machine so a possible chance of cross contamination!

This place is fantastic. The food was beautiful and good portions and the staff were really lovely! Would give it 10 stars if I could. Will be back next time we are in St Ives.

We called in for drink and a sandwich late morning after a visit to the Hepworth museum. We had tea & coffee, a tuna sandwich and a sausage sandwich. All were very nice and the service was friendly.It's a nice, cosy cafe and we would go there again.

We visited Sky’s Diner as we wanted a quick light lunch whilst visiting St Ives. The staff were attentive & cleaned the tables & chairs after every customer. My crab sandwich was fine as was my husbands cheese & ham toastie although the accompanying salads could have been cut smaller & the offer of salad dressing or mayonnaise would have been appreciated. Overall for a basic quick lunch it was fine.
