Sizzling Pub in Gloucester

Really good food and atmosphere, pub was very busy. Polite and friendly staff. Used an offer which made the food really reasonably priced. Overall impressed

Met a few old work colleagues for lunch here. The place was very busy. You have to order at the bar, where there was a bit of a queue, but it moved quickly. Looked like it was understaffed However, the food came quite quick and it was worth the wait. I had the fish & chips which was very good, the mixed grill looked good too. It was very reasonable and we'll meet there again. Friendly staff too

We had a table of near enough 25! We were nervous on what it may be like as we’ve been to many places before and food has come out cold etc. However that did not stop the staff from giving us the best service with food being spot on each time. We were all pleased with our meals and have not got a bad word to say. Staff were lovely and ensured we were getting everything to a high standard. We will definitely be coming back very soon!

It was freezing inside, air conditioning was on full pelt albeit it was only 3 degrees outside, my husband took his pint back as it had a metal taste so the pipes were not cleaned properly and needed reflushing. He wasn't offered a refund and bought a bottled beer himself! The floor manageress was trying to be everywhere all at once (felt sorry for her) she then arranged a refund for my husband's failed drink and apologised profusely. I had my 80 year old aunt with us, she was so cold plus her meal got cold before she could eat it with the air con situation, Ordered tea to heat us up and after 20 minutes my husband went to the bar and the staff had not yet even looked at the order, tea was lukewarm and as weak as water, all in all nit a great visit at all. Hope they can get their act together then maybe I will return as it was a total washout.

The recent refurbishment was needed and has smartened the Wagon up. The staff were pleasant, and working hard. The food was good value for money, and there was a good portion on the plate. My "classic mixed grill" was well cooked....but the various pieces of a rump steak, small gammon steak, pork sausage and a grilled half chicken fillet all tasted the same! It was if it had been cooked in the same oil on the same hotplate. If I had my eyes closed I would have had no idea what I was eating! Apart from that rather major issue, I enjoyed the Wagon. I and my colleague were delighted that this pub has carpet(!), so we were able to hear ourselves speak - so many pubs and restaurants these days have solid floors and brick walls, with nothing to absorb the cacophony of noise from customers talking, mobile phones on speakerphone, and what seems to be the increasing level of music played by the pub or restaurant itself. Some of us want to actually talk to our fellow diners without having to shout, so well done the Wagon for having carpet to deaden the noise!

Party of 11 for festive menu. We had pre-ordered food and yet still had to wait 40 minutes for starters. The Christmas dinner was processed turkey slices, frozen roast potatoes (some still frozen inside), frozen vegetables served cold with hardly any gravy, it did not look appetising at all. Festive menu but no crackers supplied. Not a good welcome and some servers were rude. Apple pie was tasteless. Burgers and the other puddings were okay. Vegan food ordered but the servers did not appear to know what was vegan and what wasn’t. After complaining was told that they were busy and short staffed. Not a good experience, grateful did not book for Christmas Day.

Very nice meals, for very good value. I had the hunters chicken, son had the Lay it on Chick burger and my daughter had fish fingers. With a drink for less than 30 quid, bargin.

The last time I visited this restaurant I swore it would be the last, even a £25 voucher as compensation wasn't enough to get me to relive the awful experience that we had. It remains unspent, somewhere. Today we visited the new refurbished restaurant and it couldn't be more different. We were greeted by a friendly face and allowed to choose a table. I was advised that there would be a 45 minute wait for our food. It arrived after 20 minutes. The quality of the food was first class, the price is very good and the atmosphere clean and well ordered. We will definitely visit again.

Went for family meal before going on holiday. Refurb looks great. Food arrived quickly even though they were very busy and was lovely. Staff were all pleasant and checked everything was ok. Will definitely go back soon.

Arrived to find table that was reserved for us had been given away. Ordered through app from table. Ended up going to bar to get drinks as no sight of them after 20 minutes of waiting. Two out of 3 meals turned up after further 10 minutes then had to wait another 10 for third meal with the excuse of “there was a problem with the scampi”. Couldn’t they open the bag? When I complained that the hunters chicken was overcooked and dry the response I got was “well it’s better than being raw!”. Appalling attitude! We were going to have dessert but left straight away. Won’t be returning.

Lovey pub now all done out, food was excellent I had the tandoori chicken sizzler so good and lovely and hot, very tasty meal my husband had the steak and rib meal and his was lovely and hot and tasty too, the manager Pete was walking around and very pleasant to talk to, lots of staff always busy clearing away tables quickly as well. Decor is amazing here now we will be back.

Food was great, service was awesome , my disabled son was catered for brilliantly, Pete and his team were warm and welcoming as always and the new refurbishments look amazing.

This is the 3rd visit this week 3rd visit was not good had pies and the the the chips was cold the lady changed them but I think she put them in microwave my wife’s meal was not good she told the lady not so they gave her a free pudding but she said can’t give him a pudding because his chips was changed shame we was hoping this was going to be a regular *** but, to be fair the first 2 visits was good ** one bad experience don’t want to go back

I came here to enjoy my first meal after a very long battle with annorexia, yet i waited just under 2 hours for food. When the food came my steak was frsh from the feild across the road. the gammon and chicken were cold on my plate and it felt like rubber it was that over cooked the only somewhat edible thing on my plate were the fries and the sausage. As much as i can understand its a busy friday night and service will be slower, customers still have an expectation that the food would be some what edible after waiting over an hour for their food. As someone that has also worked in catering and hospitality i feel that if the kitchen can not consistanly prepare food in a timely manor on busy nights, maybe they should cut off service so they can make the food to a satisfactory standard. I will never eat here again due to the food being DISMAL.

11of us came for lunch and we were pleased with the meals we had and the first time we had been back to the Wagon and horses for our monthly lunch out

When I last reviewed 'The Wagon' I said I hoped that the improvements I had seen then continued. I'm happy to say that in my experience they have, and the number of people eating there seems to bear that out. Our last 2 visits have been on a Thursday lunchtime and on a Friday evening, and on both occasions it has been far busier than it was even a couple of months ago. Considering we are now in January, historically a quiet period for dining out, that has to be good news. There is talk of a refurbishment later in the year and that is certainly needed. The place is looking tatty. I just hope a better job is made of the work than was the case last time, when the quality of work was very poor.

Well we are pleasantly surprised, this has really picked up since the new people have taken over. I applaud the new staff & the food was very good & piping hot 😊

We visited here again for the best food on the area. Lovely friendly staff ( with a sense of humour which always helps). Two of us had the chicken starters as usual and the others mushrooms all up to the usual standard. Loved the scampi and had the big one with peas and chips. Two had the skillets and one the curry. This is now a monthly treat for us all. Well done to all the staff and of course the chefs

Absolutely disgusting service rude food came out in complete random order drinks took over an hour to arrive and the waitress called Megan was an absolute disgrace to the company, obnoxious rude and disrespectful at our table, never again will our family visit this pitiful place.

Booked here for me & my mum after a busy day after our Craft Fayre. We decided to go for the tapas 5 for £17.50. With sweet pot fries & a nice glass of rosé. Mushrooms, calamari, nachos,chicken wings. I was not enjoying the fries, too greasy & overcooked. Loved the chicken wings. The calamari was nice, but the batter was greasy. And the mushrooms when biten into was oozing water. Oddly, the nachos had no guacamole and sour cream, just a small amount of cheese over loads of domino's & jalapeños coming out of your ears. I have chilli's. Overall , eventually, a nice chilled place to eat. Didn't feel rushed and the staff were so friendly. The nicest rossi have had in a while.

This place was suprisely quiet for a Saturday evening decor grubby and ripped seats but food was good ..place needs a revamp

We ate here again with our friends who live locally, the food is always good and generous. I had the curry this time. Wonderful, more than I could eat One of our group had the lasagne and a couple had the sizzling plates and all were really enjoyed. We always have the chicken starters which are always just cooked right and delicious.. can wait till the next visit. As all the staff are friendly and helpful, so nice to eat in relaxed place.

My partner and I had the most fabulous breakfast...we where 10 mons late in ordering it as it was just past 12pm...but the chef could not do enough for us saying it was no problem...also very reasonably priced would recommend ...absolutely delicious

Spontaneous meal out to this friendly pub in Hucclecote. Was moderately busy but the wait for food wasn’t too long and the meals that came were tasty, hot and prepared with care. Servers were very pleasant too. Salt cellars need attention as they don’t pour but they do have sachets so will let them off ;)

The chicken platter was quite nice, the jerk chicken is quite spicy for those with low tolerances. The Mexican chicken and wings were very nice. The gammon was okay just a bit dry but the chips are good quality.

Dreadful service waited over an hour then to be told another twenty minutes ! Got a refund ! !Never again!

Ordered online after scanning the QR code on the table, order food and drinks for me and my 2 kids, waited 30minutes and still hadn't even been served our drinks so went up to the bar and waited 10minutes for the couple in front to be served before I could ask where my drinks were to which the guy behind the bar then got the slip from behind him and then made my drinks (no apology or anything), the place wasn't even busy and 3 people behind the bar yet couldn't seem to cope making a few drinks. Place has gone right downhill, new staff everytime I go in so clearly something not right there. Food then took another 20minutes, and short on scampi and onion rings to what is stated on the menu but couldn't be bothered with the hassle of complaining as we would of finished our meals before it was put correct. Such slow service again wasn't even busy. Won't be going there again.

We visited in early September on one of the lovely hot days we had that week. We were told that there would be a wait for food of around 30 minutes but we weren't in a rush so didn't mind. All of the staff (serving at tables and at the bar) were excellent: friendly, helpful, apologetic about the wait; polite. They really made our visit. We felt sorry for the kitchen staff as the extractor fan was apparently not working and they were having to cook in extreme heat. Despite this, our food was really tasty and came out piping hot. We were not disappointed with anything and would happily return. We appreciate that eating out at the moment isn't as it was before the pandemic, but we had the sense that the staff members here were really trying to provide a good service and we were grateful for that. Thank you everyone and wish you well for the future.

Myself and my partner visited here for a bite to eat on Christmas eve, and left in less than an hour very disappointed. I had the crispy chilli beef with rice and my partner had the chicken skewers. Well mine was at least hot, but the rice tasted like it came out of an Uncle Bens microwavable packet and the Crispy Beef was more Crispy batter. The Chicken skewers were cold, no onions rings as stated and the fried onions on the not so hot skillet plate were burnt. Not one person came over and asked if our meal was ok, after complaining about the food after we finished, i think we got a sorry muttered under the waiters breath and nothing else was offered in regards to a discount. The food has really gone down hill at this establishment. Will not eat here again..

Over 1 hour wait for main course. Non existent service. Waited 20 minutes to order dessert. Desserts when they arrived dumped on table amongst the dirty main course dishes which weren’t cleared away. Hugely disappointing.

Being a regular over many years and enjoying fabulous food and service I can honestly say that in the last year or so the place has gone terribly downhill. Such a shame as the food used to be amazing and the service impeccable. On my recent visits the food has been very poor. It’s so sad as this used to be such a fabulous place

Sintió mucha pena por la camarera mientras hacía todo lo posible. ¡Nunca volveré aquí y no lo recomendaré a nadie más! ! !

Visité aquí con un amigo. Tenía una comida principal que no le impresionó mientras yo tenía 3 platos pequeños. No me impresionó mi comida de ninguna manera. Tuve las alitas de pollo y salsa, las picaduras de kebab kofta de cordero y las gambas Torepedo. Las alitas de pollo y las salsas, aunque de buen sabor, solo había 3 y al precio estándar podría haberlas comprado en un supermercado con las gallinas adjuntas. Las picaduras de kebab Lamb kofta eran tan duras que apenas podía meterles un tenedor. Lo único bueno fue el Torpedo Langostinos, lamentablemente solo había 5. No podría recomendar esto a nadie. El servicio fue bueno pero podría haber sido mejor.

Visitamos a menudo y como la comida tenía un 50% de descuento, pensamos que comeríamos allí por primera vez desde Covid 19. Estábamos bastante decepcionados. Los pisos y algunas sillas estaban sucios y tenían comida. El servicio fue muy lento. La comida era bastante buena, pero en general este restaurante está muy por detrás de otros en la zona como The Greyhound y The Whittle. Aquí hay margen de mejora.

Nuestra primera visita desde que reabrieron y es probable que sea la última a menos que actúen juntos. El comedor estaba vacío cuando llegamos, aparte de otra pareja. A pesar de esto, los recién llegados se sentaron en las mesas inmediatamente al lado de la nuestra. En ningún lugar cerca de un espacio de 2 metros, ya que podía tocar a las personas en las mesas contiguas.

Visitamos con 4 adultos y 2 niños (1 año y 3 años). Las comidas para niños se sirvieron con los entrantes según lo solicitado. Luego solo se sirvieron 3 comidas para adultos y hubo que pedirlas tres veces y esperar 10 minutos antes de que llegara la cuarta comida. La comida era de peor calidad de la que cabría esperar de una cadena de restaurantes. Necesitaba preguntar dos veces y esperar otros 10 minutos por los helados de los niños, que venían con cucharas de postre para adultos. Pidió cucharas de té y les dijo que no tenían ninguna, aunque se encontró y se les proporcionó una cuchara de helado. Proporcioné comentarios al gerente, quien dijo que tomarían en cuenta mis comentarios. No volvería a visitar.

Esta es la tercera vez que salimos a comer desde que reabrieron los restaurantes, me sorprendió que ningún personal llevara ningún tipo de visera o máscara, otros restaurantes / lugares de comida para llevar los habían estado usando. Sé que no es obligatorio, pero pensé que la empresa querría cuidar a su personal y clientes, pero supongo que no.Aparte de un entrante de cordero que salió cocido como balas, las comidas eran buenas. No volveré hasta que sea más seguro o comiencen a cuidar a su personal y clientes

Always a good meal to be had here. Always busy so best to book. The staff are always friendly. We had lunch on an Eat Out to Help Out Tuesday and ordered mixed grills and roast chicken meals. Excellent value and cooked to perfection.

Booked a table and on arrival everything seemed fine,escorted to table and we chose our menu,massive queue and when added to queue told to sit down due to people queuing too close too tables,complete joke we booked but people were walking in and getting tables,we walked out!

Food was very tasty, flavoursome and hot but although my food was called the dirty stack it was very messy and been thrown together without any care and attention, even to the point the waitress mentioned it when she served it to me. We also had dessert which tasted nice but again was messy and missing elements from the description on the menu. The staff were polite but looked stressed.

La razón dada fue que pronto recibirán un nuevo menú. Entrante vegano y vegetariano cocinado en la misma freidora que el pollo. La otra comida que comemos estaba bien.

Went for Sunday lunch this Sunday recommended by a friend booked online on entry one person serving drinks and taking orders eventually another person arrived we got our drinks went to our table then back down to order our Sunday lunch joined the que ordered food because we were having beef went to the condiments no horse radish anywhere cutlery I cleaned with the serviette when the food appeared took one look at it that was enough taste was Awful beef was not sliced beef of a joint was shredded beef packet mash rock hard parsnips spoonful of gravy roasters were paler than me in the winter frozen veg my granddaughter hated it the wife also couldn’t eat it because I paid for all of it I had to show willing I stopped 3 times to push the the plate away never going back there, not one person came to ask if everything was ok

Reserved tables not being used, when you do find an unreserved table they are dirty and sticky and dirty plates. Readon is not enough staff

Teníamos un cupón de regalo para Navidad para ir aquí. Cuando entramos al bar, el personal solo hablaba entre sí sin prestarnos atención. Pedimos la comida y nos sentamos en una mesa que necesitaba ser limpiada. Después de esperar a que alguien lo limpiara, fuimos al bar para pedir que lo limpiaran. Mirando al personal detrás de la barra sin hacer nada después de decir que lo harían, finalmente saqué una mano de una bolsa para limpiarla yo mismo. Cuando finalmente llegó la comida, limpió los 10 vasos que estaban sobre la mesa. Llegó una de las comidas y 15 minutos después llegó la mía. Luego pedimos un helado y esperamos media hora, así que fui al bar para recordarles que todavía estaba esperando. Después de otros 20 minutos llegó. Podía entender si estaban ocupados, PERO eran más de las 9 de la noche y el pub estaba menos de un cuarto lleno para entonces.

After a recent visit to the restaurant on the 23rd of December I will not be going back again, I understand this is one of the busiest months of the year but the restaurant was half empty so out experience was absolutely un called for, we had a party of 12 3 of which are children, we waited over an hour for our starters nothing was offered to the children colouring pack for example, for our starters to come out wrong gave the benefit of the doubt move on to mains the children were forgot about there food was served at least 10 minutes after adult mains, our food had seen better days moved onto dessert the children’s were forgotten about again no sight of deserts for them had to chase it up twice, I came away from our family meal really disappointed I emailed a complaint to get a reply from the assistant manger no emotion towards it at all 3 members of the party complained we all got the same automated reply to which we have all replayed and we have had nothing back very poor customer service skills from the assistant manager what so ever, we were not even offered anything from our bill out of good will what a let down wagon and horses staff

Fifteen of us had the Christmas festive meal here which we could not find fault with,good service,good food at a good price and a good atmosphere,what more could you ask for,in fact most of the party thought it was so good the following day they had breakfast here which was also very good value for money,well done to all the staff at the Wagon and Horses,wished there was a similar pub in my area.

Met with family for a Christmas Dinner, food was undercooked, portions were small, service was non existent! We constantly had to find bar staff to request our next course. The decor was dirty, and the Christmas lights went out as one of the wall sockets had FALLEN off the wall!!! Avoid this place at all costs

While the food is, in the main, of an acceptable standard the service can be a bit slow, especially when less busy for some extrordinary reason. For some reason the French roll they serve with the soup is microwaved first in an effort to make it appear fresh, unfortunately it has the exact opposite affect. It comes out too hot to handle but as it cools down it turns to wood that you can neither cut, break or chew. It would be far better if it was served with just a slice of bread.

Please don’t be put off by bad review in local press! Yes, that meal looked bad, but a group of us had a near faultless meal from their festive menu ( and I’ve very high standards! ). Recently all food seems to have improved- chips used to be hard but have really improved. They just need consistency now. I’m a local and have had more good than bad

Well we will not be going back to the Wagon and Horses again!! One person on the bar so when I finally got served I got the girls two half lemonades and Ella-Rose a 250ml fruitshot, £4.15. Then they refused to heat up Barkley's baby food, Elsie-Mae's wrap came out and it literally didn't have enough chicken for the whole wrap (just enough for half). Our food was cold, mine looked like a kids meal. We then had to ask for the kids desserts twice, another 30min wait for them!! Service was the worst I've experienced. Went to change Barkley and well, nappy bin overflowing!! Absolutely disgraceful from start to finish!!

I appreciate that Boxing Day is going to be a very busy days for food outlets, but surely the management at the Wagon and Horses should have planned for that and have loads of staff waiting at tables.

I visited this establishment for an early breakfast well at approx 09.15am ,i must admit not very impressed the beans were cold the egg was hard ,and the sausage tasted and looked as if it had been cooked the day before and refried the next day.I am glad i never ordered the large one . Maybe a visit later in the day might be different .

We have visited here a few times and it's definitely one of our favourites. Unfortunately our most recent visit the food was different we both had steaks and although we asked for medium they were really well done and dry. Despite the negative the puddings were really nice and never disappoint. Friendly staff, short waits and cheap prices. We will be coming again.

i like steak, this steak was good!!!!! The chips were lovely, peppercorn sauce even better, eddie isnt going hungry tonight! YUMMY!!

Took my mother in law and daughter for a bite to it ,being a friday lunchtime wasnt expecting much as it was getting rather busy But service was quick,food arrived quick and hot.Good value ,Very tasty and staff was lovely.what more can you ask for .definately will be returning
