4 of us just went in for a drink & some sandwiches we ordered gammon ham sandwiches.then the lady came out and said they had run out of gammon ham.so we ordered mature cheddar cheese and salad.when it came out it was the thinnest bread you could get.the cheese had no taste to it at all.but you had loads of salad.when the lady came out to ask if everything was ok we said we have had a lot better.she just said sorry about that and just walked of we will definitely not going back.

Stayed at the Holliers Hotel for the weekend. Stayed there quiet a few years ago and was really nice the place was a bit tired back then but the food was amazing. This time the place is even more tired nothing has been changed the wallpaper is still coming off the walls, and the carpet is still the same. I know the new owners only took over in March this year but they have got a long way to go to get it up to date. The food wasn't great either. I would love to go back in a few years time to see what's changed if anything. The location us great and there is a great chip shop just up the road. Only 5 mins from the beach but very steep and the lift was broken. Don't bother going through Shanklin Chine £9.50 per adult to walk through the gardens really not worth it.

We had 2 meals at the holiers during our recent holiday. Very easy to book a table. Good menu with a wide range of options, the food can only be described as plentiful, if you like big meals this is the place to go. Staff were very good and engaging, I would recommend this restaurant as it compares well to comparators in Shanklin. Very good value for money.

Ate here one night. Good pub food, with huge portions, although very limited draft beer options and no IPA. But the main reason we were here was to eat and very good selection of food, with many veggie options too. Service was excellent, even though the poor girl was waiting all the tables on her own. Would def recommend

Walked passed and decided to eat here. We booked a table and when we walked in it was very smart and felt very intimate. The staff were lovely and very accommodating to our 18 month old son who is very vocal at times. We were a little uncomfortable about the fact he was so noisy but the staff did not bat an eye lid. They even gave us a smaller knife and fork for him. Really lovely place. Highly recommended. Food was lovely. Definitely going back.

Turn up without booking and the staff were helpful and said that they could accommodate us. We had starter and mains Ordered the BBQ chicken wings and they turned up and looked very nice. Unfortunately when I started to eat them they were hot and spicy chicken wings with BBQ sauce. Would of been ok if they said hot and spicy because I wouldn’t of ordered it. Starter potion size was good, could of order a portion of chips with it and had as a main. Main meals, burger and sizzlers Good size portions very enjoyable. The downside of it all was the the cleanliness of the place. The floors could of done with a sweep and hoover. An the toilets need a uplift too.

Appalling we didn't eat any of it and the waiter Declan argued that it's what you get for the price and we paid £38.85 for reformed scampi and a badly cooked burger (bottle of wine £16.00 ok).wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.

The fact that this was the only place in Shanklin that was not fully booked tonight should have been an indication of the port service and food . I booked a table for five hours in advance so we were not last minute or unexpected guests. So what went wrong? Firstly, our meals did not arrive at the same time; there was at least five minutes or more between the service of each one. The first meal to arrive was the tiniest piece of fresh cod with a rather large portion of new potatoes and some rocket. Despite being small, it was well cooked. The next dish to arrive was chicken which was meant to be served with stir fry. The chicken was tasteless and the stir fry was mostly a bit of fried baby corn. The burger came next and although the burger barely filled the bun, it was acceptable. There was a long delay before the next dish came. This was meant to be pork ribs served with fried tomatoes, mushrooms and onion rings. What actually came was ribs in a bowl and a corn on the cob. I though my lamb shank had been forgotten but when l eventually got it, it was a cold lamb shank drowning in a packet gravy with cold over cooked carrots and a parsnip. The young man who took our booking and our order was very rude and defensive and tried to deny that there was a problem.

The restaurant itself is located at the back of the hotel. The man who showed us to our table surprised me when he came out from behind the desk wearing sliders. I hardly felt this was proper attire. As we was seated we was told to go up to the till to pay and order drinks. As we decided what to drink I waited at the till. Even though at least two people saw us standing there. They didn’t budge from where they stood. When up at the Carvery the lady serving seemed nice but I felt like she was trying to hurry me when I took a second to decide what meat I wanted. And when I asked what my options were, she had an angry tone when she spoke. I could have understood this if there was people waiting behind me but I was the last person to be served. The portion of meat given was rather large and the selection of vegetables and stuffing was huge. My only problem with the food, was that when I was about to put some cauliflower on my plate, there seemed to be a thick black hair sticking out of a peice. So I didn’t bother taking any of it. When eating the food was wonderful and I couldn’t finish the meal or have desert it was so filling. Throughout my meal I observed the restaurant and found that the main waitress seemed unbothered . At one point she went behind the counter, and proceeded to take a piece of crackling, pop it in her mouth and then go in the corner and not discreetly at all, go on her phone, if she had tried to hide it better I might not have seen her doing it , but she was in plain sight of the whole dining room. Overall I felt the food was the main Marvel of my visit and was the only real enjoyment I had. But for a cheap price I guess that only entitles you to cheap service. Hidden_reviewer

The meal could not be faulted, the meat was plentiful and cooked perfectly, there were plenty of vegetables and gravy. (The desserts are best left, they look as though they came straight from the supermarket basic range.)But what spoils a good meal are the staff. The board outside states all welcome, inside its a different story.Callum greeted us with a smile and showed us to a table and advised we should order food at the bar,the barman eventually turned up, chewing gum and totally disinterested, we ordered food, a pint and a white wine, which had to come from the other bar. When the wine finally arrived it was almost thrown onto the table. The whole experience of eating in the Holliers is spoiled by a sour faced landlady and the gum chewing barman who seem to be in a hurry to get everyone out of the dining room, we were there before 7pm and they advertise until 5-8pm.It is a real shame that the staff are this way, the food is really good, a dining experience is not just about the food.

We had a carvery and I would certainly say this is up there in my top 10 for quality of food. The beef melted in your mouth, the amounts were plentiful and even the veg left you wanting more! Usually there is something on your plate that isn’t as tasty as the rest but definitely not here! If you want quality food then this is the place to be.The reason I didn’t rate it a 5 was because we ordered drinks and they didn’t come. I went to chase them up and there were no bar staff at the bar. When I did finally get a waitress she didn’t even apologise for our wait even though we had finished our main course. The place is a little dated but very very clean. Overall a pleasant experience and I would return as the food outweighs the service, just make sure you get your drinks before you sit down!

We were in a B&B so needed to eat out in the evening but really only wanted a small meal and a beefburger would have been ideal. Although we were initially the only ones in the room we were made to feel welcome on this side ( everyone else was in the Carvery room) but it wasn't terribly clear how to get a more simple meal and the decor in this room was sad and tired looking. The chicken sizzler dish was good, though rather overspiced and a bit oily. I had the vegetarian lasagne and a lovely salad and both were good. I think they would get more customers if they re-vamped the place and thought more about their marketing. The young staff were working really hard however and gave good service.

Despite this restaurant being empty every evening we walked past our experience was excellent. We were the only two customers but Declan was very attentive and explained the menu very well. We were even allowed to choose the background music. We opted for chicken sizzler being the theme of the restaurant and in a manner of speaking the "signature" dish. Very good portion served piping hot with french fries and a choice of sauce. Very reasonably priced and one of our most enjoyable meals during our recent four night break. An excellent experience!Holliers' carvery is also well worth trying. See my other review.

We were looking for a Carvery found this Hotel advertising a Carvery for £7.95. We didn't feel welcome the moment we arrived. We ordered a bottle of Holliers Hotel wine a Dry White. We were given the bottle and two glasses once opened and poured I took a drink or rather a gulp! It was quite sweet so it got taken back to the bar it was labelled Medium white "that's all we have" so as we had paid we were lumbered as they were not going to change it! Our wine and Carvery came to £27.00 but we were charged 60p for using our debit card!!!! Apparently we should have spent £50 to get this wavered!!! When it came to the Carvery only Beef and Gammon was left plus burnt offerings of roast potatoes. We complained of course but this did not get us any where. Stopped in with friends while on a day trip to the Isle of Wight. A lovely and quaint hotel with a couple of dining options and a bar area with entertainment. We were drawn in by the look/feel of the hotel and the very affordable dinner specials listed outside. When we entered, we discovered there was also a carvery option in a different room. We were in a dilemma! Two of us wanted the carvery and the other two wanted the menu but ALL of us liked the dining room with the menu (vs carvery). The staff generously allowed us to all eat in the lovely dining room with a warm fireplace, "mood" lighting and comfortable tables. Many thanks!Service was very attentive and patient with our dumb American questions. We were seated right next to the fireplace which was an extra treat! All of us were quite happy with our meals: special shout out for the classic fish and chips! Given the special's, overall price was quite affordable and reasonable. Wish we did not have to leave to catch the ferry -- we suspect staying for the entertainment would have been good fun!

We called into Sizzlers as we needed a place to eat. We went in on spek and were welcomed and given a table. There was a lovely fire and it had a cosy atmosphere with fairy lights etc bit like a wine bar/italian bar feel - tho for me was a bit hot. The table was sorted out as it was a bit wobbly which was fine and we had a jug of water and had a Holliers Hotel bottle of red wine which was very nice for a cheaper bottle as the house red wasnt available which would of been dearer. We were told there would be a wait on food which we didnt mind and as promised the food came out half an hour later. The food was nice. We noticed a lot of the customers had left and the staff were tidying up. Then we were the only customers. The fire was switched off. It was about 9pm and the waitress was still there and it felt like she was waiting for us to finish. We wasnt asked if we wanted a dessert or coffee and we paid the bill and left. We were given a nice choccie mint with the bill. We were told we could of gone next door for the entertainment but didnt. Its a shame they dont keep the atmosphere going later into the evening.

We went here after being let down in another restaurant and wasn't looking to have a great meal. It was late and didn't expect much to be left on the menu. To our surprise there were still some good choices. I ordered the cajun chicken and my sister in law the bbq chicken. My husband had the sea bream and my brother in law a sea bass. The chicken dishes were served 'sizzling' on a beg of crispy vegetables, with chips and corn on the cob. They were delicious. The fish dishes were also delicious. Went to this restaurant for a family meal.We were first in the restaurant at opening time but as soon as we sat down we were told to order quickly or there would be a two hour wait! Staff were very casually dressed.Firstly the order of one of our party was not available "it had run out at lunch time". The meals did not all arrive together and one order had been incorrectly taken to another table. When this was highlighted the waitress removed our incorrect meal and when she returned said that all they had to do was swap the chips and potatoes over. The food was good overall. Dessert was advertised as fruit etc and a chocolate fountain but this was also for some reason unavailable. We had to ask for the child's free ice cream rather than it be offered. The toilets could do with a good scrub particularly the floor. Pipework was covered in black mould. Windows covered in cobwebs, no toilet paper in one cubicle and no soap.Would I recommend .....no.

I had Sea Bass at this restaurant. The fish was partially undercooked and I left most of it. The vegetables which came with it were OK. I pointed out to the waiter that the fish was not fully cooked when he took my plate away. When he returned he said the chef said he thought the fish was OK. So in this case the customer was considered to be wrong. My wife had Sea Bream with vegetables and she said her meal was OK but nothing special.

We enjoyed a visit to the botanical gardens & decided to stop in to their cafe /restaurant for a bite to eat I must say that the views were stunning looking out onto the gardens , we were lucky enough to get a table on the veranda where a local choir were singing & it made our day The food menu is quite limited but there were a nice selection of cakes available & lots of unusual teas too The food we did order was delicious .. but they were small portions for the price ( I must admit it was one our most expensive eats while on the isle of wight!) All in all a great setting to enjoy a cup of tea & drink but maybe wouldn’t go back for food
