Steamer Inn in Isle of Wight

Visited here whilst on holiday. Loved it. Very welcoming staff and amazing food. Despite being very busy, food was served really quickly. Food was delicious and generous portion sizes. We loved it so much we visited twice during our 3 day break.

The prices have been hiked so high it’s outrageous. Beware holiday makers! Service is awful, but to be fair it’s been consistently awful since Covid.

Great food as always at the steamer. We stayed at a local holiday park where we only ate once as the food was terrible. We came back to the steamer and wasn't disappointed, lovely food with a view as always.

A lovely b&b pub/restaurant on the sea front of Shanklin. Friendly staff,a well stocked bar and quirky maritime memorabilia all around the pub. We didn't eat but The food looked amazing. Decent priced drinks a lovely place to relax on the outside decking area overlooking the sea.

Visit here last Wednesday. We usually stay in Shanklin however this was the first time we visited the Steamer and we were not dissapointed. Brilliant selection of drinks , food was brilliant with decent selection for the kid aswell. Service was great, we were really well looked after. Lovely view of the sea. Will definitely revisit next time we are on the Island

Enjoyed a drink, Shanklin is such a lovely place.

Scenic place but charges too high. About £13 for an adult. Not a long trail. Possible to finish in 16- 20 min to and fro.

Only had a lunch (not stayed in the rooms) but was a solid lunch would recommend.

Absolutely brilliant meals (seafood chowder and vegetable lasagna), excellent value, great setting and service. Yep, we loved it.

Good location, friendly staff, good proces, the place is clean and quite big. The food was nice, they agreed to customize my dish no problem. Decor is a little bit heavy, but every fan of sailing is gonna love it.

Visited the finest restaurant in our faviroute location on the IOW. We celebrated our 14th anniversary with a meal and some drinks in the Steamer. Fantastic and welcoming service recieved and the food was great.

We were recommended to come here to try the chowder and we were definitely not disappointed. Staff were friendly, food was delicious and big portions. The place was very cosy.

Love cafe / restaurant with seafront views. Great Italian coffee and not to miss decor . A calming location for food and drinks . Parking outside is possible if you’re early enough. Or parking at the top of the cliff and a quick ride in the famous nearby lift .recommend to all

Dinner and service was very good, fast and efficient, good for all of us, it was very good. With very lovely views.

Lots of glutenfree options, and the service was very good, we went at 530pm and it was just getting busy, if you do call in go early!

Went for dinner which was delicious and extremely well priced. Asked bar staff to call us a cab to go back to our air bnb as we really couldn't face the climb back up the hill. Cab companies just laughed as it was a short distance. Bar man (gary) came and told us he would run us home when he finished his shift. Now that's service!

Had lunch 4 adults & toddler. Staff very friendly & helpful. Service very good. Food also very good. Nice view out to sea.

I popped in for a quiet coffee this evening. The staff looked after me well and I enjoyed my drink. Whilst I was alone on this occasion and didn’t eat, I have done on previous occasions and have enjoyed a nice meal.

Food and service here have always been 5*+ over the many years we've been going. Lovely views across the sea and a real British seaside feel to the restaurant.

Very friendly staff, very accommodating to giving us a table with room for our long legged dog. Food is very good and generous portion sizes. Mac and cheese is amazing and what I get every time now. Also as a veggie the options are one of the best you will find on the island. No negatives of this place :)

Great customer service, a busy Saturday night but served quickly by staff who were cheery!

Fantastic nautical theme with lights in portholes, lanterns and mini lighthouses. Oars, ships' wheels and a swordfish bone. I had to have fish pie which was tasty, generous and hot. Other traditional dishes were similarly large and tasty. Maybe more salad needed? But all-in-all good value apart from house wine which was a bit steep. Toilets not so nice.

Working solo away from home so went in for a drink and food and received a very warm welcome. Had a couple of pints and chose the Gammon from the main menu. By far the best gammon I’ve ever had! It’s massive and could’ve done with an extra plate! Everything cooked perfectly, couldn’t fault it.

The food is excellent, the staff lead by Georgie are exceptional and go above and beyond. I cannot recommend The Steamer Inn highly enough. Thank you all so much.

Cool and authentic Isle of Wight, you cant visit Shanklin without coming here with the family!

Great food at reasonable prices & great service.

This was our first visit to dine at The Steamer Inn at Shanklin and it certainly won’t be our last. To be honest I would have dropped half a point if it were possible because of the rather frosty greeting from one female member of staff, however what was to follow made up far more than that half a star. The atmosphere was great it was busy the food was excellent and the wines very good value. My friend had the scampi which she reported was well cooked and flavoursome the accompanying sides were also well cooked and of fresh and tasty. I chose off the specials menu and I was so glad I did. I had the chicken breast rolled in bacon with a spinach stuffing served with roasted baby potatoes and a vegetable medley which came in a beautiful cheese sauce. The chicken roulade was served with a mild pepper corn sauce which complimented it perfectly. All in all we had a fantastic time at the Steamer Inn and like I said earlier we will be back!

Location good. My special chowder was a rip off. 90% Sweetcorn. Chips and cheap food OK. Was going to return but actually went to the village inn, far superior.

Lovely cosy pub right on the seafront full of character with nautical theme. Every meal I've tried has been great quality food and good value for money. Good choice of drinks on tap and spirits

Excellent food and service. Recommended but beware the portions in the restaurant are very generous! We didn't stay at the hotel, just ate at the restaurant.

A lovely, consistent pub where the food, drink and customer service is always great. We love visiting The Steamer!

We visited a couple of nights ago for a meal as a table of five. We ordered on the app and the food came out really quick. The food was nice as it usually is at the Steamer. Staff were friendly and bought treats over for our dog.

A party of 8 yesterday for our Christmas lunch. Very well organised and staff looked after us brilliantly. Food was very good. Portion sizes were huge. The bread and butter pudding had to be taken home as my colleague was full. These events can often be difficult and we had a big letdown at another local venue last year. This was fab! I’ve also been privately for breakfast a few times and it never disappoints. Great view too is a bonus.

So much better than it ever was. Maybe because it's off season but we've been twice this week and the food and service was very good. Will visit again!

Too much food and so much waste. It's good but far too much

Couldn't comment on the rooms as didn't stay here, but as an excellent place to eat, we couldn't have chosen better. Excellent choices of starters, mains, light bites, desserts etc. Plenty of beer, wines, spirits and soft drinks to choose from. Always one of our first ports of call when we visit our daughter in Shanklin.

Best pub in Shanklin particularly in the winter

Met a former colleague, who has retired to the IOW, for lunch. He had stayed and eaten at The Steamer before, so the recommendation was tried and tested. However, I was very impressed by the whole experience. The decor is lovely, the staff were very welcoming, the lunch menu offered a wide variety of dishes, and when the food came, it was delicious and very well presented. We had a very pleasant hour, catching up, and I can thoroughly recommend this eatery. Parking is very easy, along the esplanade, on the opposite side of the road, but you do have to pay. There is also a car park nearby for the busier times of the year.

We visited to have breakfast, fabulous service, delicious breakfast. Would definitely have gone back had it not been the penultimate day of our holiday.

I may be bias as it’s my favourite place in the world but I’m never disappointed. Warm welcome, friendly staff, amazing food would recommend to anyone visiting the IOW it really is the best pub.

Stopped here after visiting the chine. Plenty of seating inside & out in this Warm pub. Friendly staff, enjoyed fish & chips, mushroom tagliatelle, kids chicken goujons & pasta. Self serve water for the kids & good selection of alcoholic / 0% drinks. Warmly recommended.

We found this on the first night of our holiday, the food was great and plentiful. Reasonable prices and in good time.

We arrived early just as the lunch menu had started, the had been a bad storm the previous. Drinks were good and friendly service but food was a little slow in coming out but was very good. We didnt mind as we had a warm table inside and admired the views as the sun had come out.

Stopped here for lunch a couple of times. Great location on the seafront with great views. Good choice on the menu and a good selection of drinks. I would recommend a visit.

Very disappointed after we were told we could not make a reservation for 2nd November after coming over to the Isle of Wight for my dad’s wake on the 1st. Even after explaining this and the fact we are a party of 12 adults and 2 children I was told we needed to just come along and wait until enough tables become available. Really! This is not good business acumen as I cannot believe any hospitality business would turn down this amount of revenue.

Food was excellent Staff were very friendly

The roast was spectacular as you always and the atmosphere was very friendly and busy. The toilets were clean and the space around the table was tight but ample to wander around

A great location for a nice dinner or drinks, right on the seafront to eat! The food is delicious, highly recommend, any trip to the isle of wight I come here!

Went a few times in the evening for a snack and drink and had a proper dinner once too. Really nice place with great outdoor seating and great sea front views.

We had two meals and both times it was busy, the food is fantastic with a great selection of dishes. It's advisable to book the foods that good customers were queuing out the door 👍👌

Must say Sunday Lunch was at best average.....

Unfortunately, we were sitting there for 15 minutes before we could call a server over, who then explained we should order at the bar or use the QR code!

Went in for evening meal. Plenty of room inside and out. Good food and friendly service. Dog friendly which seems to be more uncommon than it should be. Food was amazing and plenty of it.

We ate at The Steamer for most nights of our week long stay in IOW and every meal was of very good quality, and I certainly worked my way round the menu! I can highly recommend the gammon.There is also a very good and varied selection of ales and lagers(I worked my way round these too). What really sealed the deal for us is that it is totally dog friendly, inside and out, but you can't beat sitting outside with a cold pint of Shipyard watching the blue sea and all that goes with it. Don't visit the IOW without visiting The Steamer.

Really tasty fish and chips enjoyed whilst watching the sun go down on the sea front. Expert battering on the fish. Only need a deli size portion if your not that hungry!

Amazing Food. Great service Beautiful location. I had a chicken dish from the specials board and it was beautiful, perfect for a rainy day, warming and hearty. My partner had sausage and mash and he loved it, huge I.O.W sausages and yummy onion gravy served with peas . All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful and I would highly recommend eating here!

A good range of real ales and lager. Very pleasant lunchtime atmosphere with views across Shanklin sea front and ships at sea. Food well priced, good quality and generous portions. Everything you want in a seaside lunchtime venue.

I've visited The Steamer many times over the years, owned as it is by the same family as other great IOW pubs The Spyglass, The Dairyman's Daughter and The Bargean's Rest. (All also recommended.) This time we stopped in for a family meal, gathering seven of us around a spacious table with a view over the beach. Ordering at the bar was simple and there was plenty on the menu, including lots of gluten free options for my wife. The food came quickly and was excellent. The pub itself has a well decorated nautical theme and is very well presented. It's somewhere that's always worth a visit - although parking can be a challenge at busy times, when you may also have to wait to be seated.

Really impressed with the food here. I had the nachos with chilli and it was delicious and a generous helping. Burgers were a popular choice among our party and all spoke very positively. Also good for kids as they have colouring for them. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great meal.

Average food and pricing for a seafront location, but decent portion sizes. Service a little perfunctory rather than sincere.

We only popped in for a drink and something to eat so did not see the rooms. The service was friendly and efficient, didn't wait very long for our food, very generous portions, we didn't manage to eat it all, but the lasagne , which i had, was delicious, my friend had the fish pie which she said was fabulous, and my vegetarian friend had the halloumi cheese light bite option, which again was very nice, but had far too much onion. It was all very well presented.

Had dinner their and it was good portions, however I ordered large fish and chips when it came I got his little brother,asked waitress if this was the large cod she said yes,at the chippy further along Shanklin front my fish would have struggled to compete with their children's portion,disappointed with my dinner wife and daughters were fine,if you want a decent sized fish and chips I would try another restaurant

This restaurant is absolutely amazing, food is really good quality, excellent portions, it has every drink you could want and beautiful views of the sea. Ate there tonight and the wait staff were incredible. the girl seating customers was so polite and lovely. didn't manage to get her name but she was so organised and kind to everyone she spoke to, very impressed with her customer service. Her and the others who served us were very polite and made our restaurant experience one of the best we have had. would definitely recommend and would love to visit again !!!! 😊

For a cheap , filling lunch or dinner with fantastic beachfront views this is probably the place to come to. Add in friendly service and a good selection of drinks. Then you have an ideal venue.

Food was expensive, but expected that as the location by beach ,the food was ok ,bar staff need to smile 😃 a bit more as a bit grumpy 😠

Had a amazing meal here this weekend. I have quite a lot of allergies including gluten and onion and struggle to eat anywhere. I asked at the bar when ordering and they went to make sure I what I could have and to check ingredients. Then they ensured my allergies where noted. I had a brilliant meal and I felt safe eating.

This was recommended by a friend who lives on the island, very nice place and extremely popular with queues although was seated within 5 minutes. The food was good and plentiful
