Over the past 6 months we’ve eaten here a number of times. Value wise good using the price is Wight offer. On the occasion we couldn’t use it we felt not only is the food overpriced but don’t like the fact a service charge is added on. We very rarely don’t leave a tip but I think that it should be a choice to make one. On the whole the food was good, one time the fish was tasteless, the children’s meals were downright awful, the cheapest pizza, more like cardboard. Each time my crab salad has been different, the first time it was magnificent, with plenty of crab, a mixed bean salad, potatoes along with the expected lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber and chopped peppers. On another visit half the amount of crab. Yesterday was a lot of mixed salad with a good amount of crab. The mussels have been consistently good. Service has also varied, we met the lovely bubbly David , so chatty and friendly, he’s no longer there, yesterday a lady who over explained everything and seemed a little muddled, maybe she’s new. It would be great if the food and service could be more consistent. The Fishermans is in a wonderful position, right on the seafront and has been pleasantly redecorated. I expect we will return next year, family and friends enjoy a meal there as much for the surroundings as the food, but please improve children’s meals.

We so enjoyed our evenings at this place. Food was excellent and good portions. Typical pub food but with Specials Board each evening which kept it interesting. Service was very good even when they were under staffed due to end of season.. Right on the beach. Good beers.

Food is good & very quaint with nice sea views. However, Very cramped inside ( which is fine as is a cottage but with dogs allowed in & off leads is an annoyance when trying to enjoy. No WiFi for customers & zero signal an all networks ( and needed as on call ) - Sadly won’t be recommending to all my family & friends as better elsewhere. ( if they fix WiFi then would be able to return)

Myself and my girlfriend wandered into the pub last Friday after being recommended by the taxi driver, we walked in the door and was greeted by a member of staff who looked at us and said 'have you booked!' we replied 'no' which he responded in a very curt manner saying 'we don't have any tables!' promptly turned his back on us and walked off! No mention or thought of saying 'you can stay for drink or anything else' so we promptly left! Disappointing!

It's a great little gem of a place. The best pub food in Shaklin and well worth the walk, either down the Chine or from Hope Beach. Lots of delicious fish dishes to choose from. My crab sandwiches where generous filled and our chips were cooked to perfection. We ate inside, the service was great, our waitress was so lovely, fun, happy and made us feel very welcome. After we finished, we sat outside in the sun with our drinks and watched the sea come in. It's definitely worth a visit.

Nothing to shout about here. Not a big portion of food with fish and chips that you end up paying for £19.95. The fish was the thinnest cut I had from any shop/restaurant, seafood spaghetti was probably the best on the day. Very limited vegetarian options, with high prices and a 12.5% service charge, definitely not worth the wait.

Went there with great anticipation after visiting earlier this year and David was absolutely charming. However this time with my daughter and family it was horrendous. The service was slow and ill mannered. Waiting nearly 50 minutes for food as great as it was, is a little too long. Then asked if we wanted desserts had to wait another 17 minutes for the menu by which time the grandkids had had enough. We asked for the bill which finally came and the waitress suggested we had dessert elsewhere. Then to add insult to injury as we left another waitress accosted my daughter in front of everyone to ask if she had paid. The embarrassment that caused was the talking point of the night. Other customers apologised to us on the waitresses behalf. Sadly, neither my organisation, nor my family will ever set foot in that place again and will find alternative venues with better service and manners.

We visited for a lunch and managed to grab a bench table outside in the sea front. Our server was David, very fun, friendly, helpful and entertaining. He really made the visit to be honest. The meals were very average but quite pricey for what we got. I had the fisherman’s pie but it was almost cold in the middle, very watery and tasteless . Clearly frozen and reheated- partially! I make a much better fish pie at home. All other meals were average too. Some were large portions-like the seafood linguine- but the quality was poor. It’s a shame as we have been before and enjoyed it but will be taking it off the list of eateries whilst visiting from now on. Big thanks and shout out to David any way for making us laugh and for excellent service !

The food here is very good and the service friendly but I have marked down due to the following:- 1. We were asked for our food order before the bottle of wine arrived - then we were given the wrong wine. 2. My husband's plate was taken away before I had finished - very poor etiquette. 3. More than 10% had been added to the bill - this is not The Ivy! when I asked the server if she got the tip she said she didn't know. Of course she would know! Hence I got her to delete the service charge and gave 10% cash. You need to make it very clear on your menu if you are going to add on an extortionate service charge.

I had some friends over for the weekend and they prebooked all the places they wanted to eat, one of which was the Fishermans Cottage. I haven’t been there for many years so was interested to see what it was like. It’s a great little place right on the beach. Unfortunately I was disappointed and probably wont go back or recommend it. Firstly, you get a time slot of 2 hours, so we had to leave straight after we’d finished eating. The food is very average pub food and quite expensive. I had the seafood spaghetti and it was definitely size over substance. My friends had scampi and it actually looked like they had tipped the whole lot out onto the plate in one go with the smallest pot of tartar sauce i’ve ever seen! The nail in the coffin for me was the service charge. We asked the waitress if she got the tip and she said NO!! We took the charge off and gave it to her in cash (they have a tips jar) so hopefully the staff get that. We have many great, good quality pubs and restaurants on the island now, Fishermans you need to do better, especially when you haven’t got holiday makers queueing up outside and are more reliant on the locals!

I wanted to leave a better review but not at after how I was treated. There was a misunderstanding with one of the waiters which was blamed on me. We were all confused and uncomfortable. I later overheard the waiters talking about it behind my back. After the meal as I was leaving I went to say thank you and bye to the waiter who turned his back to me and ignored me. Incredibly rude. Incredibly unprofessional. Otherwise the food was fine but overpriced for what it was. Nothing special but no major complaints. There is no wifi. Parking space not guaranteed. Nice view on sea. We followed lovely food cooking smell when we visited Shanklin Chine. It was a welcoming pub at the hidden side. We requested to sit at a warm corner due to windy and nasty rain soaking my little one up. The male waiter was lovely and sent us the special menu board as well. Foods' prices are slightly higher than other local pub foods and didn't realise it had a 12.5% service charge on top of the bills. As you would normally expect, a pub food won't be having any billed in service charge but only pay cash tips. Anyway, the local Isle of Wight beer and ale were nice. We jumped straight into the main course fish and chip and 1 kilo of mussels. Dare me say it was the best and creamy mussels I have had, and the portion was hit my whole year quota. The most amazing was not a single mussel with empty shells. I'm absolutely impressed. Kid spaghetti bolognese is normal dish nothing special. However, the fish was not seasoning, although it was flaky fresh, but it is slightly smaller portion compared to the table that sat next to us. Understood different fish fillets , which came with me. I wasn't impressed with the portion when in the comparison. All in all, foods quite goods, warm atmosphere, lovely waiters and waitresses. Well spent c.£70.

Food, drinks, and atmosphere are all as one would expect from a place called 'Fisherman's cottage'. Prices are as one would expect from a tourist location such as Shanklin Chine. But the desserts! Desserts are so much better than one would expect from a fisherman's cottage in Shanklin! It sounds counterintuitive, but do try their desserts. Go for the summer pudding if they have it. Go for anything else if they don't.

Unprofessional staff. Tried serving drinks in completely wrong glasses. Served fish and chips on a plate which was to small, the chips were on the plate with the fish dropped on top so had to get the fish off the chips to season them , the fish fell apart so my plate looked like a pile of leftovers. There were flys buzzing around and we were sat inside. Arrived at about 3.30 and was told couldn’t sit inside as tables were reserved for the evening after we had sat down ready to order, so waiter moved us to another table, we were in there for 1 half hrs and in that time no one else turned up at any of the other tables, so don’t know why we was moved around. We hadn’t booked but the sunshine gods were on our side, lots of reserved tables and we were fortunate to time the last remaining unbooked table. Drinks, whitebait, nachos, onion rings, hot and delious for starters. Mains of crunchy chips and steamy scampi, huge portions of spaghetti Bol and not forgetting the Seabass that is a taste sensation. After visiting the Shanklin Chine, we walked down hill and straight to the Fisherman’s Cottage, an adorable little pub on the beach. Lovely decor, friendly staff, fast service - we loved the little buzzers on the table that you press if you need anything. The vegetarians in our family were happy with their choices, Grilled Halloumi and Jacket Potatoes with Cheese and Beans. My husband and I liked our Seafood Spaghetti, the taste was fine, however the presentation left a lot to be desired. Fish and Chips were also fine, good portions.

Food overcooked or cooked in old oil, they added a sneaky service charge which is in the small print, will not be going back

After visiting the Shanklin Chine, we walked down hill and straight to the Fisherman’s Cottage, an adorable little pub on the beach. Lovely decor, friendly staff, fast service - we loved the little buzzers on the table that you press if you need anything. We Never ate Here .But it was A Popular Pub. Locals with Bowls Full of Mussels. And Holiday Families with Children Enjoying There Meals. We Had 3 Drinks 1x Double Vodka and Lemonade. 1xGuinness and 1x Carlsberg. The Price was £18:30'p. Was An Old Marine Bar at the Chine End of Shanklin Promenade. But We Usually Sat Out Side with a Drink at The Steamer. A Lot More Reasonable Priced.

Not customer friendly, we walked in to ask about availability and they couldn’t have been more unfriendly. The lady we spoke to just didn’t care, clearly surviving on reputation. Avoid

Reason why I am giving this place one star is because when my partner tried to phone to book up a table there was no answer. So we decided not to use this place. On the Thursdayof last week(19th October) while out on a small cruise from Cowes to Portsmouth my partner gets a phone call from this place and she asks the guy to speak up as she was finding it hard to hear him above the noise. What does he do? He slams the phone down on her. Absolutely shocking behaviour, luckily we had booked up somewhere else.

A wonderful setting right on the beachfront. The inn has a lovely atmosphere inside with some history about the cottage which we found very interesting and the food was very good. I would recommend the Moules marinière.

A great spot for a decent lunch with sea views. We had starters and mains and found the portions to be very generous considering the quality of the food. We had a lovely beer recommended to us and the staff were friendly and attentive.

Friendly staff. Nice place for a drink. Fish pie was dreadful. Dry, microwave heated. Worst I have ever had. Sorry to say that but I was disappointed.

Was brilliant. Then got took over. Nothing but a glorified restaurant of sorts. There was a great bar. But snobbery and new people turned it into a, I don't know what. Shame really, was a brilliant pub. Now sells home made beer at extortionate prices. Would not recommend to stay at either.

Congratulations on the smallest portion of chips on the Island, served in a bag so the vinegar drips out the bottom, so many better chippies on the Island. Won’t be back.

Came here as it’s had numerous great reviews but sadly we found the standard way under par. It felt a bit claustrophobic but we put that down to its popularity and as we'd booked we really wanted to test the roast. Can’t fault the beef but the vegetables were bland, overcooked and we presumed frozen not fresh, the stuffing was different and it would have been nice to know exactly what it was. All in all although edible, I think the tastiest bit was the horseradish sauce so sadly we won’t be returning.

Really central, amazing atmosphere, live music, amazing food and bar, on the seafront, overall amazing experience with the most kind staff

This place has sooooo much potential, but the owners let it down. They've let it go to ruin and it's such a shame. The vibe is great but it desperately needs investment. No food either.
