Very poor service! We arrived at a quite time (many empty tables) and waited at the sign to be seated..... and waited.... and waited. Five staff walked past us in the 20 mins and all stated it wasn't their job. The queue behind us mounted up. When finally someone came to seat us we decided to walk out, along with two other families in the queue as the staff members had a disagreement about what station each of them should work at. Definitely needs better management and staff training. Can't say about the food as we didn't get any in the end.

The Sloop seemed like they were having an off day, as two meals were forgotten about. However, they more than rectified the issue with free drinks and desserts. Overall, it was definitely a positive experience, but they can easily get 5 stars if they get more organised. Also, big shoutout to the effervescent man doing the carvery. He was very entertaining and friendly.

Staying nearby, we visited on a weekday evening for dinner. Ordered via the qr code & had to wait nearly 45 mins for 3 pizzas to arrive. They were great pizzas, but the wait was frustrating. Our dips didn't arrive until we'd almost finished. Ordered a sundae using the qr code again and had to chase for the bowl - the area to make the sundaes was messy; sauce and sprinkles everywhere & the ice cream was pale yellow...

We went back to The Sloop after not visiting for over a year when the food was atrocious and the floors were dirty.. Well,it’s got worse.. We didn’t think it could get any worse,But I’ve honestly never eaten a carvery that tasted so bland, uncooked and just awful.. The potatoes were tasteless,The stuffing had no flavour at all.. The carrots and peas were rock hard like they had just been taken out the freezer to defrost and that’s it.. The gammon was really salty.. The home made mash had a sour taste.. The whole meal was awful and we all left our carvery’s after paying over £50.. I’m not one to moan.. I’m laid back and take everything in my stride,But this was honestly the worst meal ever.. It was also warm and the place & floors were so dirty.. We won’t be going back and definitely won’t be recommending it to anyone.. Flies all around the food area aswell.

I was not surprised to see a cut and pasted response from the the owner/manager, like he has done on so many negative feed backs received, how about doing something original.

A nice carvery for £9.95 you can add a couple of extras like pigs in blankets. The first time we went the carvery was not serving so we had to order alternatives from the menu. 2 courses for £12.95 which was nice. We established that the carvery finishes at 15.00 and starts again at around 16.30. On the second visit we had the carvery and this was very nice. Plenty of gammon, beef and turkey given and a selection of veggies. If I had one criticism it is that the roast potatoes were a little hard.

I have visited here for the buffet breakfast for some years now. Always a fantastic range of food available and a lovely friendly service. I adore my mornings there at weekends or on a day off, chilling out looking at the river views and just relaxing with my feast. It's dog friendly and my Buddy used to enjoy it there and the odd sausage or two!! Great to go to for food then walk it off after at Firestone or along the train track. Sadly he's no longer with me but I still enjoy a visit to the Sloop and a walk afterwards. Hats off especially to Kerry the Chef who cooks the most lovely runny eggs and is always so pleasant and friendly. And to Elaine who is lovely.

Went with a mate for a bite to eat, we were going to have the carvery but thankfully we looked first. All the veg looked as though it has been sat for hours, the peas looked dry, potatoes barely looked cooked no colour, cauliflower cheese looked dry as anything and the meat looked as tough as old boots for the chef to cut through. We ordered drinks, the barman didn't understand humour and our banter was received with a look of a puzzled person. We then sat outside as we both smoke, we literally only saw one ashtray so ended up having to stub our butts onto the floor. All the tables look like they could've done with sanding down and repainted. We both ordered hot and spicy prawns (£4.99) with a spicy honey sauce. They were not spicy at all the sauce was just honey from the taste of it. My mate ordered the scampi which looked like it had been fried to within an inch of it's life, I had the porker burger which tasted ok however there was no hot sauce in the burger as was stated on the menu. We would've complained at the time however it took them almost 50 minutes to make and serve our food. We noticed people who came after us and got food before us which prompted my mate to go and enquire about our food. He saw it sat on the serving plate so how long it was there is beyond me as there wasn't a lot of temperature to the food when it arrived. Probably won't return due to the standard of food.

It’s a bit rubbish. The environment is shabby and dirty, the service is slow and odd. The roast was pleanty full but lots of it (including roast potatoes) were over cooked and or had been under the warmer too long and so inedible. They even mucked up cocktails serving everything in a rather sad looking tumble rather than the glass in the pictures. They had also run out of some simple elements of drink and food.

Food was ok, but if we’d have known you allow dogs in we would have gone elsewhere. We arrived at the “wait here to be seated” sign and no one arrived, so I went to the bar. We were then told “table 9” with no offer to show us where the table was. The chef carving the meat was possibly the slowest person you could have chosen, trying to make un-funny jokes to cover his slow speed. We ordered desserts and half way through we discovered a piece of plastic in 1 of them. The waitress did apologise and said it was from the plastic wrap around the cake, thankfully it wasn’t my young niece eating that cake. All we were offered was 1 free drink. Not sure it’s somewhere we’d visit again

Oh wow, where to go with this… stopped for breakfast before the ferry as had been told it did “great breakfasts”. That may be true, but it also does astoundingly bad service. After confirming we had 4 in our party, and ordering 3 breakfast rolls and a juice at 11.12, at 11.35 there was no sign. On querying, the slightly dazed staff member seemed firstly surprised that I’d ordered food from him not 20 mins earlier (there was only 3 other people in the restaurant) and secondly put out that I was qeurying the pace of production on a bacon sandwich. After shuffling off and checking he confirmed they were coming, and indeed they were - 2 of them anyway - another 20 mins later. What did arrive was very much “to a price” shall we say. The whole place seems a bit hit and miss - a metaphor than can be extended to the car park that is very tight and we saw several near misses in an hour. It’s ok if you need to kill an hour, otherwise avoid.

I came here often from 2012 onwards. Make no mistake... The sloop was the go to place then to eat.. This place used to be brilliant, hugely popular and was always packed people would raved about it, it was a real island gem, great atmosphere and friendly staff.. after a a few years I visited again and on that occasion it had lost its shine, seemed a bit more grubby somehow and uncared for and prices had gone up quite a bit but food was still then not too bad, staff seemed less enthusiastic. Then it was shut down due to a bad hygiene rating. I've gone back a few times in hope that it's found it's mojo again but sadly this place is a shadow of it's former self, post COVID pandemic it's gone downhill considerably, pretty much always empty and carvery staff seem like they are about to face a firing squad.. miserable and unmotivated. You have to wait a lifetime for them to re-load the carvery customers complaining about the food already on their plate getting cold waiting for re-stock of roast potatoes veg or being told they ran out of certain meats because they need to save what's left for 5 o'clock service.. Unacceptable and lazy! Our roast dinners were burnt I paid extra for soot which was supposed to be pigs in blankets that's how overcooked they were. The roast overall was tasteless, carvery area has what I can only describe as a fly infestation, uncovered sauce bowls with flies landing on them while I'm watching people putting mint or cranberry sauce on their dinner oblivious to what's been sitting in it. While I was waiting in line I could see the flies all over the ceiling above carvery. Sitting at my table I spent most of my meal swatting them away from my food. I had heard it had changed hands became part of a chain so maybe that's where the problem started. I wish it was like it was years ago..now it's just a grubby place with over priced below par food and miserable carvery staff, saying that though bar staff are really cheerful and welcoming. When you get shut down and eventually the chance to re-open your supposed to make an extra effort to make it work..not carry on as before, I get the impression they've given up. To top it all it's interior is in need of a touch up. It's sad to see it like this now. Maybe a major overhaul of management and staff is required to get this place back to its glory days.

Breakfast here was fantastic, value for money is excellent. Ate on 16/07 and really happy. Also had dinner on 15/07. Less impressed, arrived to see carvery in full swing with lots of the meat available. But service from the kitchen was very slow. When my partner went up for the carvery, was told no meat left, but serving chicken instead. Not a huge problem, portions were generous. Hard to believe with so few new customers arriving that so much food had run out. Also saw chefs complaining and they didn't serve us dessert, the front of house sorted it for us. So we were looked after, just not sure what was going on in the evening.

What an absolute awful establishment this place is. Thought I wanted Stone house, instead I got the kind of service I'd expect from Karen's Diner. Hadn't been to a stone house for a while. Found no meats for the carvery, no gammon eggs as a meal, even forgot about our desserts & after 20 minutes of waiting went & asked where the desserts were. The service was horrific. The pudding was ordered with custard & after I had asked where it was & clarified it was a brownie with custard (despite checking we could have it), still had the chef come out & moan stating it is with ice cream. It was clear that the food wasn't cooked with care here & as such we won't be returning again. A complaint will be esculated with head office. Have tried contacting the restaurant but no one ever answers the phone so won't be visiting again.

We arrived on the island Friday 12th July, staying in Ryde, looking for somewhere to dine we passed the sloop inn, as it was a Stonehouse pub we booked a table, on arrival for dinner we waited at the bar eventually someone turned up gave us table number then pointed us in the general direction, looking at the menu we decided on 3 carverys and a pizza, we ordered at the bar and sat back down waiting for the pizza so we all could eat together we then went to the carvery handed over our tickets ,the chef asked what we would like, but said sorry we have no meat but we have a chichen breast,, 2 of our party had the last 2 chicken breasts the remaining diner had to re order a burger which took forever to be served, desert tim , we ordered sundaes when they arrived the topping was melting, dripping all overour table, not a good experience,we will never go back there, if you want to know how to run a Stonehouse pub visit the alma in ,upham in Hampshire, amazing place

Absolutely foul, do not eat here, table of 8 all food came out randomly my poor wife was just starting her starter the server threw at her whilst the rest of family were ordering desert. I gave up and refused my meal so I could get a refund for the disgusting experience. I should have cottoned on when our server (Chris) finally delivered my starter and spat all over me when he was talking. Whilst trying to complain the manager hid in the kitchen and only made an appearance when I stated doing the staffs job and letting the customers know there was a very long wait on the terrible food. Whilst waiting all the staff were laughing saying how awful the days service was

Had a lovely tea here. Food is what you pay for really, cheap and cheerful, so don't expect anything else. The carvery is great, everything hot. The staff are lovely

Enjoyed all areas of this characterful establishment many times over the years. On this occasion a family gathering in the adjacent "boatshed" was just the ambience we needed away from the (enjoyable though it was) bustle of the bar. Good pub grub in generous portions, and well kept local ales. The staff were all so accommodating to any dietary foibles, and were exceptionally friendly and welcoming (as were other customers too). I nearly forgot to mention the stunning sunset views across the sea. Not much out there until you reach the Caribbean. Look forward to returning.

The Fishbourne is a super place for a nice relaxed meal. We always go there before getting back on the ferry to the mainland.

On positive points - beautiful place full of character- friendly and attentive staff - nice setting and decor. . On negative side - very cold and not comfortable at all. Lovely old open fireplace that had a few remaining glowing embers in it but front door wide open for duration of our visit. I didn’t take my coat off whilst we were there as was just too cold. We had a roast lunch , it being Sunday. Nice menu but the portions were extremely miserly especially for the prices. I had loin of pork at £18 and got just 2 small slices of rather dry pork. Little square of crackling which wasn’t particularly good. There was very little veg - the Yorkshire pudding was very nice as were the roast potatoes. It was a pity that the rest of the meal didn’t match up. The others in our party of 7 were equally unimpressed I’m afraid. The cauliflower cheese was very poor , just mush in a sauce and was cold in the middle, we had to ask for it to be heated up. Just not good enough at all. I suspect the kitchen was having a bad day as on the table next to us a Gentleman was in full flow complaining about his meal. One of our party also had to ask for the crumble to be heated up as it was lukewarm. Such a shame as it could have been so much better.
