The Sloop Inn in Isle of Wight

Came for a carvery for my husbands 40th birthday dinner. The roast was good although it was late in the day, some of the veg was a bit dry but meat was fresh and served with a smile. We took a cake and they were very accommodating. Lovely Elaine was so helpful and brought it out with the chef who made a real big fuss and show of it which I loved, it was funny and just what we wanted. Thank you

The sloop inn is a great place to grab either breakfast, lunch or dinner and all the staff and very welcoming and friendly as well as the chefs Elaine one of the waiters was very helpful and kind

Regularly call in to the Sloop for breakfast. Buffet style brekkie to plate up yourself. Really good value for money.

Over the years we have been to Sloop Inn many times.as a couple or with groups of friends...lovely location in Wootton..with views of boats and swans from the windows..on a sunny day,eat outside.. Carvery and Pizza there..Worth looking at Internet to find out about special offers..

Had some bad experiences in the past but been every Sunday for the past month and it’s been excellent. Hot fresh food and good servers who are all polite.

A very good meal and the price very good for these days when a burger costs as much. They are open after the flood and showing no signs of the devastation a flood can bring. They need to put sign up, we tried telephoning last night but did not an answer, we Web booking worked OK. So quite today for a Sunday lunch time... Very clean and tidy no used dishes hanging about like some establishments on the Isle.

Great food and being able to order at the table without quewing

I can't rate this place highly enough, one of the best carvery's I've ever had (and I've had a few). We visited with our daughter, her husband and 3 young grand daughters (9, 7, 5). Excellent food , including homemade pizza, pasta, and burgers for the kids. The meat was cooked to perfection, with a mountain of it placed on your plate!, good selection of vegetables as well. The ice cream we all had was a bottomless bowl of help yourself cornish wippy, with toppings of your choice. Really nice helpful and friendly staff. I wish we lived locally as we would definitely be regular visitors. Its a shame that the following 2 days after our visit it was closed due to flooding as its right next to a river and boat slipway. It also has its own car park with private parking.

Used to like the sloop, up until my visit a few weeks ago. I hate to give a bad review but on this occasion I believe it's warranted. Rude server on the carvery along with a very sticky table, but aside from that, I have never been so sick after eating at an establishment. The glasses where dirty and the drinks where off, so didn't finish them. The food or what little drink I had (coke) absolutely didn't agree with me, it was a carvery I had, tasted fine, looked ok, but something can't have been right. There where 5 of us and 2 where very sick. I've eaten many times from the sloop, gradually over the past 12 months it's declined. Won't be going back.

Good food, good prices. Nice location. You could pay some attention to the cleanliness of the toilets.

Not great! Carvery dried up and burned. Best to get there really early. Staff not exactly welcoming and a general feel of it being grubby! Wouldn't go back!

Had takeaway here a couple of times during a week stay in the local area. I cannot complain about the food at all. Had a few different burgers and puddings. Would recommend this place for a decent meal.

The Sloop was dirty and unorganised. We went for breakfast and it was very disappointing. The selection was very limited. There was no cereals, fruit or yoghurt. If you didn’t eat fried food you had toast and that was it. The food itself was very very dry and it had been sitting on the hot plate long after it should. It was very overpriced for what was on offer. To have to pay extra for mushrooms I just didn’t get. You also had to pay for juices and milk which were not refillable. The plates were dirty and the lady behind the bar seemed very put out by having customers.

Elaine & Ollie gave us an exceptional service!! The food was good and there was plenty of variety! Great stuff!

Friendly very helpful staff and great value food

Very friendly staff , excellent service,food and good value, came for lunch after getting off ferry , then travelled back across the island 2 days later for Easter Sunday as it was so good!

Carvery looked dried out and the chef was shouting at the customers if you want a fresh carvery, this is not the place to go

some guy dropped a glass and all 60 people from my explorers group clapped so 4/5 for realises!!!!!!!

The food was okay but the service and atmosphere was amazing. with 70 of us they were amazing and managed to accommodate perfectly. Elaine our amazing server was so pleasant and friendly which made us feel so welcoming .Overall I am extremely impressed and will come again when i’m next on the isle of wight.

Amazing location , breakfast buffet descent

This was my first time here for a carvery and it was absolutely amazing, you won’t get better around for the price, the meat was sooooo nice and the Turkey was the best I’ve had. Service was top drawer and very friendly from all the staff, so I will definitely be coming back. Thanks very much and best wishes.

Really enjoyable breakfast, cooked perfectly and piping hot. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed.

Dinner was very sub-standard but management were brilliant

Had a Sunday carvery at around 1pm and it was pretty good actually. The turkey, gammon, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and gravy were all great. Some of the vegetables were a bit watery but overall we we’re really happy. Generous portion of apple pie for desert. Bar staff were friendly and helpful. I would definitely go again if was in the area.

Me and my family are locals in the area. We have been coming to the sloop for a while now and we have enjoyed every experience. An atmosphere where you feel hugely welcome and satisfied with everything. Elaine is a member of staff who we feel is valuable to the sloop and is very helpful at all times. Food was great today, sandwiches were delicious. Definitely recommend. See you again soon.

Second time going to the Sloop whilst visiting family in the Island. The menu has a great and varied choice so covers a lot of tastes. My conundrum between having a carvery and a pizza was solved by the carvery calzone! The staff were friendly and orders arrived quickly after placing the order. Food was tasty and the portion size was more than adequate. Only downside to the whole visit was the fact that we were presented with very dirty cutlery. Staff were quick and happy to rectify though.

We have just changed this from a good to a 1 star review. We turned up at 19:15 for a meal no gammon, beef, or pork left. The turkey left there was over cooked and dry. The Vegetables had been there for ages and all dried out along with burnt potatoes!!

Good service all staff very friendly and fun lyca is always funny and entertaining and the dessert lady was lovely

We stopped here for lunch and choose to have the carvery. It was really nice. They serve you the meat and you help yourself with the vegetables and sauces. Nice service and lovely food

Emma served our table of 6, she was lovely and patient and helpful! Kerry who cooked breakfast was friendly to the kids and the food was superb! Hot, fresh and just kept on coming.

Very friendly staff, food ok could be much better

Had a great experience and the only thing I'd say is maybe more selection at the carvery. Maybe some parsnips, crackling and cabbage? I did feel like the selection was rather limited but can't complain for the price.

Elaine did a fantastic job and the server was very pleasant too. Infact so we're the bar staff. Love this place . Staff are helpful, and cheerful

Went for a carvery was very disappointed in it , the meat was from the day before turkey was dry and so was the gammon definitely wasn’t fresh . The roast potatoes was hard too

Elaine our server was lovely & attentive. Bar staff really friendly. I had the Above & Beyond Burger & it was really tasty apart from the chips which were quite bland & not the best texture. It was far too hot - it's either really cold or boiling hot in here. Lots of room, not too many people in today.

Very rude bar person trying to remove dirty marks off glasses Very Unhygienic needs to do health and hygiene Level.2 at least.. menus dirty and covered in stains and food i did take a picture not the usual staff on ..Vegatables dried up Yorkshire puddings rock hard..Not sure if I will ever go back..It needs to change ..You've asked for a truthful review and that's what I found..

We have been several times but this time was atrocious, asked if any more meats were coming out as scruff fatty end of beef, small amount of ragged turkey and small piece of gammon. Told not yet still stuff here, I was given the fattiset small lumps of beef, my husband was given a fatty stub slice of gammon and a few lumps of the raggy turkey, then the green beans were dried out to a crisp avoided those, there was about two tablespoons of carrots, same with the cauliflower/cabbage mush and a few roasts, asked if more veg were available again told no there's still some in pots, so we ended up with a couple of roasts potatoes each a few carrots and some bits of meat, both gravy pots were nearly empty so we had a small amount each, we did not enjoy what meal we had and was definitely not worth the cost of the carvery. Our grandaughter had a pizza which was stretched to an inch of it life and looked like a rivita crispbread. The small amount of ham and pineapple was ridiculous, sadly she didn't enjoy it either. We left and went to the nearest fish n chip shop. Staff weren't very helpful as when asked we were told not my department speak to kitchen staff, which we already had done at the start and told no new meats and veg available, yet once we had our meals and were walking away another person asked about the meat and veg situation and low and behold a new beef joint etc was brought out! As stated we have eaten at the sloop regularly and had a bday dinner there but sadly we are now thinking of looking for another eating establishment

Food was really disappointing today, no veg ready no roast potatoes ready very little veg to choose from, the beef was as tough as a sole of a shoe. Really poor not normally like this but after today really don't know if I would come back in the near future!!!
