My friends moved to the area recently so I’ve been here a couple of times recently. Today we went for a New Years Day meal as a group of nine. The food is great - I had a deep filled steak and ale pie. Everyone enjoyed their food and the menu has plenty to choose from. Service is great, the people are really friendly, it’s dog friendly and the place feels authentic - what more could in need? Looking forward to coming back.

Food really nice & reasonable priced, however drinks are extortionate. 2 pints, 1 large & 1 small glass of average wine was £25. Stupid prices

Met up with some friends here for a bite to eat and a beer. Nice ale, perfectly good food, not too busy which made it easier to have a good catch-up and really reasonable prices.

We popped in for some lunch on a sunny afternoon and perused the extensive menu before ordering. Unfortunately there was no aubergine parmigiana available. My friend went back in to order the second choice of butternut squash risotto. That was also unavailable. Veggie chilli was on the specials board, but there was no rice left to go with it. The waitress was clearly embarrassed. When the dish came it was with home made chips. These were very tasty and it was all very enjoyable. Perhaps if you have a large menu you should restock more often. My friend enjoyed her fish and chips, but the Caesar salad served to my other pal looked very bare. I gave her some garlic bread to bulk it up.

Having just been charged £5 for an ale that cost around £4 in every other local pub (poss non locals price???) I won't be returning. 10.25 on friday night and they seem to be wrapping up??????? Cleaning toilets while we were drinking at adjacent table. Bar almost inaccessible due to bar stools. Not a lot of positives about this place. Welcome.........not!

£4 for a soda water. Absolutely ridiculous pricing. Running a bar myself for nearly 10 years I really wonder why you have priced soda water at such a high price. Madness, never known anything like it.

I was charged £12 for a double Bells blended Whisky. The young lad serving didn’t know the difference between blended and malt whisky. He couldn’t find a blended whisky on the till. The malts were £6 each, although, surely a blended whisky cannot be £6 for a 25ml measure?anyway, he just said sorry and ignored me. Please don’t tell me you actually charge £6 for a blended whisky? Nice pub on a lovely corner of the town, such a disappointment.

Tablets not cleaned correctly. Not nice staff and not helpful and slow. On request for a sauce there wasn't any. The steak pie had lots of carrot in to save on the meat content. The meal was cold but this could have been because other came in after us and was served before us. The staff was not there some of the time thy kept disappearing. This used to be a nice pub with nice food but not any more it must have changed hands. We eat out nearly every day but will not be going here again.

During a recent client event we suddenly realised the England v Denmark match and we had nowhere to watch it and at the same time feed everyone. Big thanks to the staff at The Shoulder Of Mutton Hebden Bridge, who at very short notice gave a large table right front and centre of their big screen TV. Not only that they waited on us hand and foot with such delights as pints of Heart n soul, Aspel cider, ice cold Corona and Neck Oil. To accompany and soak up the alcohol we ate numerous tasty offerings including King Prawns Pil Pil , Shin beef chilli, chicken and beef burgers and chicken Milanese all of which we very well cooked. Well done guys we had a great time and I’d highly recommend the shoulder of mutton next time you are in Hebden Bridge

Really disappointed. Usually so good but we had booked a table for a special meal. No staff around the young girl stood by the bar didn’t have a clue what was going on, couldn’t see our booking and didn’t no where to sit us. Eventually sat down and then the long wait began. Eventually we stood up to ask for drinks and were told that we would need to order at the packed bar. We were then told they were expecting a large party so it was clear we weren’t a priority for them. Didn’t want to queue at the bar for ages so we just left. Special meal ruined.

First time exploring Hebden - we based our visit that the outside garden was ‘packed’ so we thought must be worth a try. Food was beautiful, hot and fresh - despite the order being slightly wrong. Rectified quickly, but felt the missing component was not to my liking. Only niggle and reason it wasn’t a 5* - slow service. Whilst this is said, it was busy which is understandable. It could have done with allocated staff to sections to improve the service as opposed to one young member of staff juggling lots at once. Will give it another shot another time 😊

AMAZING SUNDAY ROAST! The best Sunday roast I have had. Had plenty of beef, which was nice and soft. The gravy was delicious and perfect, lots of veg and the mash was creamy. They also served cauliflower and broccoli cheese that was delicious! My partner had the Steak and Ale pie what was filled with lots of meat and rich gravy and it came with homemade hand cut chips. The staff was attentive and friendly and a good selection of draught beers and wines. 10/10 -100% recommend 👍❤️

My partner and I recently dined at The Shoulder of Mutton in Hebden Bridge, and our experience surpassed all expectations. We opted for the fillet of steak for two, and it was truly exceptional. The fillet of steak was cooked to perfection. It was tender, flavorful, and impeccably seasoned. Every bite was a delight.

This is a lovely pub with roaring fires to welcome you on a snowy winter day. The windows at the back overlook the river. The menu is of standard pub food with daily specials. However there’s nothing standard about the quality of the food. The steak and ale pie is home made with hot water crust pastry topped with puff pastry and served with a jug of gravy. Wonderful. The trio of sausages was excellent served with perfectly cooked vegetables. All washed down with a very nice glass of Rioja. Staff members were helpful and friendly. A great place to have a relaxing lunch.

We chose three tapas dishes from a broad menu and in all cases , they were executed to a high standard . On a cold January lunchtime , there was a reasonable number of customers with dogs and babies welcome . With a couple of drinks each , we paid £48 and left very happy to have eaten there . Decided to have a few drinks and food here it was busy butt had a restaurant area that wasn’t Was seated and got a drink from bar then ordered food. Then they decided to put drinkers in the restaurant area from the bar a few times and got very loud and roudy Food and drink was good but had to eat fast and only had one drink because of the atmosphere Not a good pub for a quiet meal. Basically a bar meal not a restaurant meal

Was planning on eating. Bought a drink and sat looking at menu. Male staff behind bar then started berating how quiet the place was stating Mondays is ‘the old grannies day who don’t spend much’ and rest of week is crap. Menu is overpriced and attitude of staff stinks. Had our drink and left never to return. Staff need to respect customers in this day and age not criticise those who do go and spend money. Keep Away

First visited here earlier in the year for drinks and noticed the food looked amazing. We visited again for food and we were shocked at the prices now, 1 course, 2course etc pricing, which is OK if you want to pay the same price for a roast dinner or fish and chips but in my opinion there should be individual pricing. The food was mediocre and service was similar. The drinks are expensive also. I'm not sure if this place has had a change of ownership or brewery but everything has changed in the last 4 months and not for the better

Visited lunchtime on a Tuesday in glorious weather and sat outside in the sun. Food ordered using till and paid for with card and then they told me one of what I’d ordered was not available. Menu reviewed again and new choice made which was cheaper than original, but barman didn’t know how to operate till to provide a refund! Fortunately someone at side of bar on customer side told him how to do it and cash given in refund. Food when it came was good and tasty and the ladies said that they’d made good choices ( second choices ). They ate from starter menu which was was 3 for £18. Gammon was good and came with extra egg in lieu of black pudding. Menu details what was gluten free.

Nice food just overpriced for what you get, to find you have to have mushy peas with a stake pie and no other option was a bit confusing. Tables could have done with a good clean. Believe it’s a tad overpriced for what you get.

Not eaten here in a long time for various reasons. They have a new menu that only started today so I was keen to give it a try. I had good old fish and chips with mushy peas. It was lovely, clearly freshly cooked and a big portion. The staff were helpful and friendly. This being a weekday evening there weren't many people there. I sat outside with my dog but, if we had wanted to sit in he would have been very welcome. One of the staff even brought him a bowl of water. If you want a quiet meal then probably best to avoid weekends as it does get very busy. I will definitely go back again.

Called in whilst out for a walk. Asked if dogs were allowed inside prior to bringing our small mutts in, young lad behind the counter said no problem. After we had ordered we were told by another, very grumpy man that we couldn't sit inside with dogs... When we advised him that we had asked if it was ok he said " you didn't ask me" Shame about the small grumpy man as the food and coffee was good!.
