Shire Horse in Windsor and Maidenhead

Lovely in every respect. Lots of parking, pleasant and helpful staff, nice garden.

We visited The Shire horse for the first time today. It was outstanding. The food was great, fairly priced and the service impeccable. Immie served us and she was great, attentive and gave us extra time when we were being indecisive. The team were really welcoming, friendly and the atmosphere was great. Love seeing a dog friendly pub too. The decor was lovely, felt really homely and is a 'proper' country pubs with beams and big fireplaces. Can't wait to return!

Came here on a visit to see Windsor Castle and Legoland with our two young children, staying in Maidenhead. Great pub with very nice food, good service and pleasant atmosphere. Could use Chef and Brewer Tesco Club card vouchers which was also a bonus. Staff were very helpful making sure we used right amount!

Good food and service. Our waiter was Aaron who was very attentive. Eaten here many times and sometimes the service can be very slow but today was very good. I think we were lucky though as the people on the next table had to wait a long time for their food.

Great pub, jay and the team are always jolly and keen to help. It has the best pub atmosphere in the area for date night or a family meal. Look forward to coming back again

The food was good, the staff on a 1 to 1 basis were great, however, service was slow as the whole operation was so overstretched. It is a real tick in the box it is so popular, but maybe book a couple less, and turn away a couple to prevent the overwhelming pressure put on the staff and kitchen. However, and, do not think in anyway it was not a very good restaurant and experience.

Food is amazing! My mum loves the old house environment and the beams! Service is also outstanding but takes some time for the food to arrive, but the day we went was extra busy, so that might explain it.

Always a handy go to restaurant as it is near home. It has ample parking although limited with disabled parking. There is a comprehensive menu of starters, sides ,mains and desserts. We were offered our choice of drinks shortly after being seated and then chose our main from the menu. I had the pork belly which came with a selection of vegetables and a delicious gravy. My son had the fish and chips which he was disappointed with as the fish was all batter. I felt sorry for him and gave him some of my dinner which he enjoyed. I feel he made a bad choice that day but would still go back and stick to what I know.

Absolutely cracking dinner just now, superb food (well done chef) sausage & mash & Glazed Pork Belly with mash, everything was piping hot & served beautifully. (Sorry forgot to take a photo) and boy did it taste amazing ! We had Salted Caramel Sundae & warm Bakewell Tart & Custard for pud. Brilliant, friendly, kind waiter & waitress (wait persons) we were served quickly and efficiently. 10/10 to both Connor & the young lady that took our order & served us. They were both so busy I have no idea how many steps they do each day but it must be amazingly high. Great efficient bar staff to, they were busy all the time we were there, they never stopped. The pub is so clean and tastefully decorated and the tables & chairs are so clean & spotless and aren’t sticky, which is very important to me personally…. We will definitely return soon. It’s a lovely, warm, friendly pub which really gives it the wow factor.

Courtney has been our waitress before and lucky for us we got her again! This girl is kind, attentive and likes a laugh! She make our day out a pleasurable one! We will return! Keep up the good work Courtney!

Excellent beers, perfectly kept ales and great atmosphere, no food served but you can order a take-away to the pub, so win win!

The Shire Horse is friendly, welcoming and an all round brilliant pub. Jay, Connor and Mel always look after us and the food is brilliant. Indoor and outdoor dining, you couldn’t ask for much more!

Overall a nice meal but nothing out of the ordinary, service was friendly but very slow they were busy but food took a long time to arrive.

The shire horse is a favourite local of ours the staff are amazing and welcoming, nothing is ever too much trouble. The new spring menu is delicious especially the sharing board, and lamb rump. We regularly meet up here as half way and has plenty of parking. Great gardens for the little ones to run around in. Weekends are busy so would suggest booking in advance. Once again thank you for a great afternoon. Will be back soon to try the lamb shank shepherds pie.

We regularly eat here always friendly good food but sadly on our last visit the food was burnt underneath. Was a little surprised. Did not want to draw attention to it as it was my mothers day meal from my son and daughter in law.

Not sure I would go again, nice location. Nice food but they took a long time to serve fish was warm. Took a long time to offer desert and forgot to bring someone's drinks order when arrived then they brought 2they seem short staffed. It was all a bit Meh.

Came in for impromptu lunch. Exceptional service by the whole team, and our server Immie. Food was fab too! Thank you so much. A cut above all other Chef and Brewer pubs.

Daisy was very attentive and we had our drinks and food in a reasonable time. Really enjoyed the bacon and cheese burgers.

Friday night, the pub was very busy about 6 pm. Staff are friendly and inviting. We tried the chicken croquettes. They seemed to be over-fried, but we checked with the waitress who checked with the chef and he said that’s how they’re supposed to be, but they did look burnt, however they tasted okay. We also tried the cottage pie croquettes. These tasted very dry and came without a sauce or dip, and we didn’t really like them but that’s just personal taste. I have fish and chips with mushy peas for main course it was okay my wife had the hake special, the asparagus was woody at the end as they hadn’t been cut off, who’s prepping the veg? Basic culinary error. Never mind, try the Horse & Groom down the road.

Daisy was a great server! She was very friendly and helpful, she checked on us for drinks etc throughout. Food was great too, all cooked perfectly.

Came in tonight for a meal and drinks, lovely atmosphere within the pub as soon as we walked in and we were greeted by the barman. We were seated and our order was taken quickly and the waitresses, I believe their names were Madison and Jess, were polite and attentive. The food took a little while to come out but our waitresses communicated everything and made sure we were taken care of. The food was amazing when it arrived and tasted very fresh! Will definitely be returning

the service was extremely slow we waited at least 45 mins for our food there was 8 of us and one person on the table got her food at least 10 minutes after us the food was good but the service was just really slow if we are a bigger party the. maybe we should have been asked to pre -order ? we are going again in 4 weeks for a roast only 4 people this time so hopefully it will be quicker

I come to the Shire Horse regularly with family and have always had a great meal here, service is a bit manic at times but thats not due to the staff not knowing what they are doing, its because it can be very busy which is always a good sign of a place doing something right. There is one server named Conor who is exceptional and works around the clock and is always a polite and funny waiter, who I wanted to just shout out appreciation too! The new menu is ok, still trying things from it, but the cheese toastie is ridiculously small and they said they had several comments on that, so hopefully that is amended soon.

Large Chef and Brewer country pub on the outskirts of Maidenhead. The Shire horse is a good location for pub food, with a nice atmosphere and excellent service in my experience. This pub has a large car park and is easily accessible by car.

We had another lovely Sunday lunch at the Shire Horse, meeting up with family. It’s pretty much in the middle of us all geographically so a great option with a large car park which makes meeting there easy. Arrival- Realy friendly and taken straight to our table Waitress- Took drink and lunch order and swiftly brought our drinks Food - we both had roast turkey and sides of cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets. The food was honestly one of the best roasts. Very tasty. Hot and fresh veg. My only criticism and it’s a personal one is that I like my parsnips better done But honestly you won’t be disappointed. We took the grandkids to the Shire Horse for lunch. We received a warm greeting and were shown to our table and drinks order was taken. The menu offers a wide choice and our order was taken. Lunch was delivered about fifteen minutes later and all meals were nicely cooked and presented. The kids had desert and my wife and I had coffee. All in all a great experience with no issues encountered.

Lovely meal, we were looked after really well by Harleigh. Will definitely eat at the Shire Horse again and would recommend.

A lovely, welcoming, and warm pub. Very busy Saturday lunchtime. Personally, for me, I thought the quality of the food vs. its price, left a lot to be desired. To start, I had the garlic mushrooms. Out came two small quarters of cold toast with a mashed up concoction of garlic and button mushrooms, not worth the £6.95 price tag. For the main, I went for the house burger with french fries. The fries were luke warm, and the burger was not what I expected an £18.95 burger would taste or look like. While I would probably return for drinks in the summer as it has a lovely outdoor area. I won't be ordering food again 😒

We had a post team Christmas work do today. Jay and his team were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble, even when we needed to make a few last minute meal changes.
