I visited the restaurant whilst in Newcastle on business. The main reason i choose to eat in this restaurant was after looking at their menu outside, only to find that the dish i wanted was no longer available on the menu. Starter was ok along with the main dish, however my naan bread was very strange. It was thick and heavy and i couldn't really eat it. Sorry Shiraz, but i would not return.

Run by the same family who have Karma Kitchen, the entirely vegan Indian take away, this is a fantastic place to eat for veggies and meat eaters alike. They offer all the Karma Kitchen menu so just ask if there's something on there that you don't see (e.g. tofu tikka masala). In my opinion, this is the best Indian in Newcastle. Would highly recommend.

Ok I got here at 7:15 on a Wednesday but I was the only person in the restaurant... Why?????? The food is good, value amazing as they have a £9.95 menu between 6-8pm which includes a popadom, starter, main and rice or nan!! I had the prawn purée which was good, followed by chicken dopiaza and plain Nan- tasty generous portion Staff are friendly too So come on guys and girls- if you want your local restaurants to survive, you need to vote by your feet....after all under a tenner for a meal must be a must?? Maybe it gets busier later but I doubt it- it’s up to you locals to help make this more successful... I hope you do 😃

Popped in to the Shiraz whilst in Newcastle. Lovely ladies serving and also the chef is a lady. All the tandoori food is made by a man as well as the breads. Had the fish masala to start which was totally delicious and huge. My husband had the chicken chat which again was huge and delicious. Then left my main to the chef. Was really nice but on a par with others. The very best thing is the night was the peshwari naan. Have never tasted anything like it. Totally delicious. Looked more like an apple tart. So much so that I left most of my main to concentrate on the naan. You really must try.

Came here on Tuesday evening and had the banquet deal. We each had a poppadoms and pickles, starter, curry, naan or rice which came to £25 with a drink each. Excellent value! I had the onion Bhaaji to start which I have to say I wasn't keen on but this may just be down to my personal taste. The curry was what you'd expect and the peshwari naan was by far the nicest part! It was lacking in atmosphere, mainly because it was empty but also because they were not playing traditional Indian music. Both ladies were very nice and attentive. Not sure if I would return but if you're looking for a cheap eat, this is for you!

We’d been to the theatre and needed a late meal. Came across Shiraz. Really friendly family run restaurant. The dishes were very traditional. The poppadoms and pickles were lovely. The coriander pickle was really different and a welcome addition. I have never seen as many cashew nuts in the nut pillau! The peshwari naan was the best I’ve tasted with lots of coconut and pistachio nuts. I will definitely be returning.

Christmas Day 2016, we had booked a table at the Shiraz and found the hand written notice to go across the road, which we did, to the Taj. Menu was extensive and different, with range of street food. My sister and I visited Shiraz tonight after we found a voucher on What's On Newcastle. The voucher was £10 and allowed us to buy up to £25 worth of starters and mains. We were greeted at the door and immediately shown to our seats. The restraint is lovely and clean and decorated very nicely. Our orders were promptly taken and our drinks and food arrived in superb timing. The food itself was absolutely delicious, we each ordered a poppadoms and pickles, a starter and main each with a Naan, rice and chips. We could not pick a single fault at all with our food and it really was excellent value for money too! Upon leaving we were given a 50% off voucher which is valid for up to 8 people and has no expiry date, we thought this was a lovely touch and will definitely be returning to use it with some of our family. My wife and I came here for a meal while in town. I've been a few times before with a mate. It is consistently good - friendly, efficient staff, tasty food and you rarely have to wait to be seated. I like the fact that it is Indian owned unlike nearly every other 'Indian' restaurant in town which are actually Bangladeshi. Some of the reviews on here are unrecognisable from the restaurant I know and it makes me wonder whether there is some skulduggery going on. We had a curry each and shared a nut pilau with Bombay potatoes and a peshwari nan - delicious

We were in Newcastle on a lads weekend away. In the mood for curry and beer I looked for the closest curry house to where we were and booked to avoid not getting a table (as recommended on the website). Big mistake, poor service from the off as waitresses seemed more worried about their phones. You'd of thought the service would of been good considering we were the only table in! The food was actually ok but what really let this place down was the staff, atmosphere and general cleanliness of the place. There was no toilet roll, no hand towels, the hand drier didn't work and the toilets were generally very dirty. We told the waitress but she said it wasn't her job and apologised! Not one to complain but we raised our concerns to the manager who appeared as we were about to pay... Her excuse was 'they'd been very busy early on'... I somehow doubt that's ever the case. Avoid.

Two couples on a trip to the city hall to see ABC. Googled the nearest Indian and it led us here. No one else in the place at 11pm on Saturday. Place looks run down. We ordered starters and the dish for the spiced onions was filthy and sticky on the outside. The main courses were worse. Three different chicken dishes but obviously they just drop tasteless chunks into different sauces to order. No marinades here! The nan was also repulsive. The girls didn't even take the after eight they were so disgusted. I did, to counter the taste of the food. Avoid like the plague. As we were leaving late night revellers were arriving and I guess these are the less discerning guests that enable this shabby and shoddy place to stay in business.

Ordered a bottle of wine which was put on the table and we had to pour out ourselves. Voucher was for a two course meal. Manager was aware and didn't advise what was included and what wasn't. She took the order for two main courses followed by deserts. Main meals were bland. When we came to pay the manager advised that the voucher was for the starters and main meals only and asked why we didn't have starters. She did know upon ordering that starters were not ordered. We had to pay for the deserts, rice, nan bread and drinks. The bill came to a high amount considering we had a voucher to use for the main course. There are so many things wrong with this place. Bad atmosphere and ambiance, dirty plates, awful toilets, and the curries we chose didn't taste like any we had eaten before. The main problem was paying. We had a groupon voucher for £50 and they wouldn't accept it. Said only starters and mains were included - popadoms, rice and naan were not part of this. So we were meant to eat the curry by itself? Really? A below average curry meal for two came to £55. The staff were unhelpful and I feel like I was scammed. Please go somewhere else.

Checked the Shiraz website all looked good for a night out from work. Was prompted to book as the website claimed only a few tables available. Big surprise to find the restaurant empty and were the only table in use throughout our meal. Ordered from the early bird menu as advertised on the webpage which was slightly misleading as it gave the impression of a starter, main, rice and nan for £9.95...not the case was choice of rice or nan. The lighting was very dim turned out there was trouble with electric, food was tasty but lacked heat, tamest Madras and Jalfrezi I've ever tasted. Halfway through the the meal the ceiling started leak with water....constant drip into a bucket for he remainder of the meal. Beer was warm, bill was hand written, hand drier in loo not working. Clearly the resturaunt should have been closed if the power had failed.

Me and my boyfriend turned up on a Friday night and we were the only ones in the restaurant. We walked up the stairs to find a man lying down on the sofa relaxing with his laptop, made us feel like we'd accidentally walked into somebodies living room! Food was okay, but the place wasn't clean, including the cutlery and plates. The atmosphere was really bad, with rude staff and music being played out of somebodies phone. Eventually another couple turned up and we weren't alone in the restaurant, only for them to also have a poor service and ended up making a complain to the owner - who was having none of it. I dont understand why people underrated this restaurant. I have been there many times, ok the interior design is not perfect but the food is priceless!!! Today l ordered chicken tikka masala and korma (they are perfect!) to home and they even sent me a free wine! Poppadoms and dips are also free and so tasty! You cannot find this quality of Indian food in such a reasonable price in any other restaurant in Newcastle. I and my friends absolutely love it!

Should maybe have known that it wouldn't be much good as we were the only table of people at 8pm on a Saturday evening! Starters were ok but main dishes were awful, every one. They gave us the wrong wine and would not have it, even though everyone on the table knew it was wrong. Most horrendous was the gents toilets, my partner took photos of how bad they were and there was a handwritten note on the gents door basically saying 'if you need more than a number 1 you will need to ask management!'Staff were surly and disinterested.

I visited the Shiraz last year & loved it, we thought we would go again as we had a Groupon. From the outside its not good, just don't look run up the stairs. The service is good, really good-well done. The food tasted nice, ........there is a but at the end of my review. The price is good really good. The toilets are.......go somewhere else before you run up the stairs.FOOD, I had the runs when I got home & my wife the following day, we have since checked out the food hygiene rating was 1! It's such a shame because it was good.

Ordered a mixed vegetable pakora which was so hard it was almost impossible to eat. Main course of Malai Kofta was a bad choice as it came in a pink semolina type sauce that was almost sweet. However the Achari Ghost, which we have had twice before and enjoyed, was unspectacular and lacked flavour. The service was patchy as well. I don't think we'll be going back.

...this would be an Ok place to eat. Arriving dry, I did not have that experience. After some consultation (we both wanted something hot) I had the Karahi Prawn and my partner had the South Indian chilli chicken. Wow! We have both cooked better interpretations at home. It was midweek but I can't help but feel cheated of an amazing curry experience, which is what Shiraz offers.

My partner and I got a groupon which included 2 starters and 2 main meals for £10, we have had a lovely meal it was very tasty and the people were friendly and polite- especially Florina the waitress that served us. Excellent value for money, only paying an excess of £11.80 for drinks, a portion of rice and a garlic naan ontop, costing only £22.80 in total- we will 100% be back! Thank you for a lovely evening!

Unclean, overpriced, bad customer service, standard food, dry meat, wine like vinegar. We only went after receiving a Groupon offer as a gift - wish we hadn't having checked afterwards that the hygiene rating is only a 1!!! Having had a bog standard overpriced meal I went to the toilet....They were disgusting to say the least one was out of order with bloody water and toilet roll in and other toilet had a large poo floating it in!! They were disgusting!Avoid this place- there is so many better Indian restaurants in Newcastle with excellent food and reasonable prices.

My husband and I popped into Shiraz on Saturday night, we didn't have a reservation but were shown to a table straightaway by very welcoming staff. We hadn't been there for a couple of months but the service and the food were excellent as we have always found. Our food was served promptly and was very tasty. Food was complimented by a lovely bottle of white house wine. We will definitely return and won't leave it too long before our next visit. thanks againMr and Mrs Ogilvie

This is an unremarkable Indian restaurant in the heart of Newcastle. The food was ok but there did not appear to be much difference in taste between the prawn jalfrezi or the prawn bhuna. The Chicken Madras was quite bland. The decor is modern.

The service here was terrible and to start off the meal we found 2 hairs on the table. There wasn't a plate or knives and forks on my side of the table so the waitress just chucked my cutlery in front of me. To top this off, the waitress carried on being rude throughout talking to us as though we were stupid. The food was awful, everything about this was awful and would not recommend this to my worst enemy .

Truly tragic. I stupidly chose to come to this tragic place because I recently purchased a taste card and it had a 241 offer. As I was walked to my table, the restaurant felt bare with only one other seating - for this i am not surprised. prime time Friday night and no one to be seen, shocking? not after this meal. I can tell you now, after my popadoms were broken into pieces by the rude waitress just plonking the garlic naan on top of it, i was in shock. The sheer attitude from the waitress shocked me and my friends. The food was average. I had to pay double for a drink that tasted like cheap chemical fake cola... not coke like i asked for! The rice was 100% microwaved, tasted of water and also had a chemical smell to it. I couldn't believe the taste of the korma... unbearable! The only positive was the chicken tikka, and even that wasn't that nice. I actually forgot how bad the drink was when I tasted the korma sauce. Disgusting. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, and will 100% not be returning.

Excellent service felt very welcome. Service was quick. The shami kebab was the best iv ever had in a very long time so fresh and tasty. Lamb chop starter was also very tasty. Curries were slightly too sweet for my taste but still freshly made and tasty, Maybe we should have asked for more spice as too mild for what we like. We would recommend this Restaurant and we will return

The food was amazing, I don't like my food too spicy and when I told the waitress this she explained everything was cooked to order so this wouldn't be a problem, they would cater to my tastes, and I wasn't disappointed. Had garlic nan which wasn't short of garlic unlike other restaurants. The atmosphere was perfect, well lit without been too bright. Used my tastecard so worked out at only £24 for 2 of us with drinks. Staff were friendly and chatty. Overall a great experience A**

Visited here as part of a pre booked Stag weekend on Sat 25th.There were six of us in the party, the food was hot and tasted good.We got six starters, these arrived very quickly, tasted good and were hot.Followed by six main courses, again arrived quick and were tasty and hot.The overall experience was good, the only thing that let it down was the speed at which our plates etc were whisked away, we had no sooner finished eating an the plates and serving dishes were removed from the table. This gave the impression that the staff wanted you out of the venue.I asked a staff member what an item was on the dish, she replied that she did not know and walked away.I would probably go back again, as I said the place is nothing special and the food is OK.

I was with the group of 11 that visited last Saturday. When we walked in there were only a few people in so we thought we'd get served no bother. They brought out poppadoms and dips right away so I thought that was a fab start but I couldn't have been more wrong. Only 9 of us were having a starter but they took over 45 mins to come and every time we asked each of the waitresses where the food was they just looked and grinned inanely (or should that be insanely?) at us. When they eventually came they were nothing special. I had the butterfly prawn(s) (there was one prawn butterflied so the dish should be called butterfly prawn!! So starters done and onto the main course. We waited another age for these.... 9 of us had ordered garlic naan breads but only 6 were brought out. We protested but we were told that we definitely ordered 6 and we did a show of hands to confirm that 9 of us did actually order but they weren't bothered.... Anyway when at last they did appear we thought our mains would soon follow. They didn't. The main courses were brought out very slowly one by one and by the time the first one arrived the naans had started to go rubbery. Mine was the wrong dish!! I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala but was brought Chicken Tikka. I must admit this was soon rectified though but the main courses were all generally terrible. My sauce was okay but the Chicken was dry, tough and overcooked. One of our party wandered into the kitchen (we were sat next to it) as she thought that lead to the loos only to find the chef with a bottle of beer in his hand!! Our birthday girl asked for separate bills so when the waitress did them she took all our names and orders individually but when they came they were all wrong. Most of us had the £9.95 special but the bills were full price and those who had ordered the invisible naans had been charged too. After a bit of a conflab with the manageress we agreed we'd pay half price. One of the girls didn't pay a penny because she didn't touch her food. The manager did apologise and she said that normally the food is amazing and the reason it wasn't is because the normal chef is off sick at the mo and they've had to get a temp in!! If that's the case then they need to replace him and the discourteous waiting staff pronto. She asked us to return in a few weeks and promised us it would be fantastic but surely it should've been fantastic last week also?...

Popped in for a meal on the 8th of July. Service was good and the food was reasonably priced and tasty. Couldn't finish my meal as the portion was a little on the large side. Decent food at a good price.

Absolutely disgusting.... There were 11 of us, we waited around 45 minutes just for the starters to arrive despite having complained at least 5 times to the waitresses (who were useless and just looked at you like you were stupid) what made it worse was there was another big party in and they only waited 10 minutes for there starters. When they did arrive they were average. We then waited an eternity for the main meals to arrive at which point I'd had enough and complained to the manager, as doing so they brought the plates out we then waited another 5 minutes for the food to arrive in drips and drabs. However the main meals were disgusting at least 2 of the party didn't eat any and the rest of us left over half. They got the bills wrong too. The service matched the food. The toilets could also do with a hygiene inspection

Hands down the worst indians iv had, dupiza wasn't dupiza was swimming in grease and had absolutely no flavour..the homemade chips were frozen chips, the poppadoms had the worst taste ever to them... the only thing half decent was the nan bread... won't be ordering again

Terrible food i'm afraid, as well as not the cleanest of places, staff are a little rude at times and nearly always give you the wrong order, so frustrating, i've giving them many chances and this was my last ever visit to this place
