My hubby having recently had major surgery, and for the first time feeling able to get up and out. We were looking for a relaxing place less than 30 minutes from home so decided on the Ship at Pinchbeck. On the river Glen, an old Thatched pub set in its own grounds with lots of parking, what a choice we made. Dave our barman was welcoming and accomodating, and Lucy our waitress was sunny and quick to humour. We whiled away two happy hours on too many brilliant starters!! Crunchy pork belly bites, tender chicken strips (so tender!!) and yummy coconut crunch king prawns! What a treat and virtually buy two get one free! We almost regretted having the main courses....till they came out. Lamb shank for my husband and chicken supreme for me, both wonderfully cooked with a varied range of veg...almost perfect. Then almost but not quite ready to roll to the car, a quick look at the sweet board just to see? Oh lemon cake soaked in lemon syrup and gin....oh no way!! Of course it was yes way! And I am sure that my cheeky question, is it iced? Encouraged a response from from the chef. I can honestly say it was the best sweet I have had in many years of trying pubs and resturants all over Lincs. and further, well done chef!! Now it is your fault I can barely keep my eyes open as I write this, but as I drift off, at least I can dream of the meal we can have next time we come back....night night and thanks all for such a welcome treat! C&Jx

7 friends went for lunch today and had the best meals! Pie of the day was brimming with steak, 2 had the scampi and chips and said it was the best they’d tasted with home cooked chips. 2 had chicken supreme with vegetables, 1 had the lasagne (although the portion could have been for 2!) and I had the belly pork with noodles which was enormous!!! We would highly recommend The Ship for excellent food at a reasonable price, Staff also friendly, card payments only. We enjoyed it so much we’ve booked for our Christmas lunch!

Massive apologies, I've removed it. I always recommend your place to everybody as it's idyllic, has gorgeous beers and fabulous food with lovely, cheerful staff. I had a run in with the Star in Geddington after receiving a penalty for parking in his pub car park when I'd visited for a quick pint. I was in such a rage, I wasn't thinking straight, as he hasn't ever replied and I got all mixed up. REALLY SORRY, HOPE YOU CAN FORGIVE ME AS WE LOVE YOUR PUB!

absolutely lovely have know this place is here for years but never been in, we went for a quick drink on Sunday and fell in love with the garden, probably one of the nicest beer gardens I've been in and a no smoking zone too which is great. In fact it was so nice we went back 3 days later to try the food which was excellent!!!! lamb rump and steak and Stilton pie both were amazing!! Will be back very soon definitely just be aware it is card only

It was a very hot day, and we called in on the off chance, although busy they welcomed us, and our dog, we sat inside as it was cooler in a beautiful beamed bar area, the food and service were superb, we can't wait to go back again. Real chips ! My chicken supreme was delicious. Another family were there with a dog overcome by the heat, and staff were very caring and supportive. Very impressed. Thoroughly recommended.

I am giving one star as everything was going ok until dessert. Then looking at the menu I saw GF was highlighted but nothing regarding nuts. I have a nut allergy and I saw Key Lime Pie on it so opted for that. I have had it many times, I have made it and seen it made on t v so assumed it was nut free. However on its arrival I immediately sensed nuts and asked the waiter who told me it was coconut. He then came back and took it away and when he returned he told me it had almonds in it. He took it away again and returned saying chef had made it with nuts. It went away for the last time but on paying I noticed I was charged for it. I said I would have eaten the fruit with it but never had the chance. I was told it had to be paid for. So I had to pay for something I couldn’t eat or wasn’t given the chance to take it away and let someone else have it. Attitude of person was obnoxious and certainly did enough to make me not return to a pub I’ve been to many times before. Have looked at 10 recipes from 10 top chefs and not one has nuts in it. It’s not an ingredient used in this.

Went yesterday for Fathers Day with family. The summer menu on the website looked lovely so we decided to try it out. My daughter drove down from Leeds for the occasion, my Son from Cambridgeshire. Was highly disappointed to be shown their “Sunday” menu which had only 3 choices of starter and main meal. Not a great choice either - 2 out of the 3 main meals I didn’t like so had no choice but to have the 3rd which I didn’t really want. Have to say though the food was good, although only 2 roast potatoes with roast dinner! Service was good. I gave this 3 stars as I think it would be a good idea to advertise on the website that the Sunday menu is extremely limited, so as not to disappoint anyone else!

Lovely old pub with a surprisingly roomy restaurant, excellent food (tempura prawns are the best I have tasted), such friendly and helpful staff but sadly, the evening was spoiled by unruly screaming tantrum riven children on the adjacent table. Behaviour that in my view is unacceptable and I applaud those pub and restaurant owners who place an age limit on children who visit their premises.

What a lovely and fine example of a traditional english pub. The environment is cosy and warm, an untouched by big brand example of somewhere to have a drink and chat with friends off the beaten track. Now, with it being such a Gem, it is frequented by the locals, but they are warm and friendly and always (on my visits) been open to me joining conversations.

A Fantastic building, great setting and lovely beer, BUT.... A Sunday dinner, whatever the meat selected is made by the Roast Spuds. We got only 2 small ones, when I asked for an extra dish (6 people) for the table, I was told NO! We don't want food waste so we only cook as many as we need!!!!! Ridiculous! Anyway, we carried on until the bill... They ONLY take card payments as you are probably aware.... but they want the tip in CASH. They didn't get one! A Pleasant Day but NOT customer orientated.

I have recently moved to Northgate, which makes The Ship my local. I class myself as being very lucky as The Ship is a true gem, a one in a million establishment. The staff are very friendly, they welcomed me and my family with open arms. The food is absolutely amazing, I am vegan and Gluten free which usually means I can only eat salad, but not at The Ship, they cater for everyone, from vegans to vegetarians to Coeliac to fully fledged meat eaters and of course, children are also catered for, they even make small changes to a dish if they can, making their food enjoyable for everyone that visits. In the summer they hold BBQs with music and in winter months wreath classes etc.The decor is eye-catching, cozy and well thought out, with the seasons being the main focus. The Ship runs alongside the river Glenn making it a fabulous place to sit and chill in the summer months. The Ship is very popular not only for the local villagers but also for people visiting or simply passing through. Their pricing is very reasonable making their food great value for money. :)

So I had gammon, my husband had the steak. Hand cut chips-not great, didn’t taste fresh at all. There was nothing that was different from all other bog standard pubs. They were quite busy, so maybe people go for that sort of menu, shame it wasn’t us. On the plus side. The waitress was lovely, really attentive to all the diners. Would we return? No.

We visited, quite by chance, as the other Tripadviser listed pub was not serving food! Our initial reaction was excellent, as having asked whether the pub was serving food, we were asked if we’d booked and because we had just dropped in, they slotted us in just before a flurry of guests arrived! Service was lovely, with friendly staff and very quick. We ordered the pie of the day, which was steak and mushroom, served with chunky chips and a mixed bag of vegetables. The pie was delicious and the vegetables beautifully cooked. The ambience of the pub is typical English, with beams and horse brasses. The tables are sufficiently spaced out to not cause issues getting in and out and the facilities clean and modern. All in all, we were really taken with this pub and would recommend it without reservation.

From the moment we arrived for our lunch booking it was made clear to us that they wanted to get finished up for the afternoon and so we skipped starters and desserts and just had the one round of drinks so we could get out of their hair! We've been here a couple of times before and it's been great, however our latest visit was not a great experience. Portions were small, presentation wasn't anything special, looked like meals I could of in nocked up myself as a quick tea at home, nothing special at all, certainly didn't look like a restaurant dining experience. Also, never come across a restaurant that stipulates on the menu if you want steak they need 48 hours notice! And even if they do, they should tell people when they book in as we had 2 of our party very disappointed on the night. The whole dining experience was also ruined by a group of loud, drunk locals sitting in the dining area and talking and swearing at the top of their voices so we couldn't even hear ourselves having a conversation. If people have paid for a dining experience no matter how bad that was, they should not have to put up with a table full of loud, swearing locals who were just there for the drink, keep the two things separate! Really dark and dingy in the restaurant, we struggled to read the menu due to how badly lit it was. The waitress started the evening by telling us what wasn't available off the menu, which in itself seemed odd at the beginning of the weekend to of already run out of so much. Needless to say this one bad experience overshadows previous good ones, it looks like the place has gone down hill, we won't be back! Must say though this is by no means a reflection of the staff they were lovely, it's on the owners!
