I wanted to treat my Vegan Daughter for a light lunch and she suggested we try this little place tucked away in a side street in Hove. I'm not a vegan but definitely a Thai and can only say what delicious food we had. The taste is 101 % Thai home-cooked with a special mention to the Papaya Salad ( Som Tam ). So good, so moreish. Give me more !! Won't be long before I'm back there again to try the rest of the menu and the Special dishes of the day.

Absolutely LOVE this place. The mother and daughter (and father) behind this local gem are so lovely and passionate about their food. Things have got even better as this beauty recently re-opened after lockdown and now has a completely plant-based menu. This takeaway is a noodle's length away from our front door but it is well worth a journey if you live further away. Tucked in a small street behind David Gilmour's new seafront property, this is the most authentic, animal and planet friendly, flavoursome food you can find in the area. Everything is cooked fresh whilst you wait outside or go stare at the sea. Highly recommended.

I have to say that the thai curries I get from Shine-Lay are so fresh and tasty. It's the kind of takeaway I could eat every day. The battered prawns are to die for as well as their fragrant corn cakes. The mother and daugther duo are so welcoming, you can tell this food is made with love and care. MORE PLEASE *dribbles*

Very few covers at a short shared table and window seats but the food is very good. A mother and daughter business with the mother cooking and the daughter serving, with a good trade in take-aways as well. A very relaxed atmosphere and there is no cover charge for taking in your own alcohol. Don't come here looking for sophistication and high end dining but do come to enjoy very good food at very reasonable prices

I can confidently say this is the smallest restaurant I've ever been to with 4 or 5 places at a window bar and one table that might seat 4, but this was all part of the charm. The food was very reasonably priced and given the quality of the food, it was incredibly good value. I think we had four starters and two mains between two people and were completely gorged by the end of it. The mother and daughter who run it were absolutely delightful, the food was faultless and the overall experience was to feel like guests in their home. JJ Cale tracks made my day too. Cash only, bring booze if you want it, no bookings (I think) and great for vegetarians. I'm not bothering to eat Thai anywhere else.

Really great food. Had green chicken curry for 2. For £7.80 each it come with rice..bargain. Delicious and spicy. Very very friendly owner/staff. It would have taken 20 mins but I requested 40 mins so that it gave us time for a pint at the Neptune. Really really recommend this place. Only found it by accident when dog walking

I loved the place, not just because the owner was taking care my newborn baby while we are eating. It is ran by mum and daughter. Strongly recommending it. Best Tom Yum soup in the UK.

Shine-Lay is essentially a take-away with seating for 10. It would not be for everyone to eat in , but I am happy to perch on a stool looking out of the window whilst eating the delicious food. If you choose to eat in you can BYO or they sell iced teas ar very reasonable prices. The menu has enough choice and food is wonderful. There was a high demand for take out in the short time we were there - early on a Saturday evening.Shine-Lay is in a residential short street off the Kingsway going towards the beach in Hove. You are unlikely to stumble across by chance.

What a fantastic place, only two tables so intimate atmosphere with a tentative, friendly service. Food was so delicious and we will definitely be returning.

I think its primarily a take-away, but there is a table or two to eat in. It was really hot when we visited so I'm not sure how comfortable it would have been to eat in.Fresh Thai food made to order by a nice Thai lady. Limited menu, but that's great because its all good and its all freshly made. I had fish cakes, squid, chicken penand curry with rice. All great. It gets busy so best order in advance and collect. I waited 20 minutes for my food to be cooked and it was well worth the wait.

This is an absolute gem. Hove can be quite a depressing area to eat out with so many poor overpriced Italian/Iranian restaurants on Church Rd where the owners delight in flaunting their Maseratis and Mercedes outside ( which makes you wonder how much value you get as a customer )But back to the Shine-Lay. I spend 3 months a year in Thailand and this is the only place in Brighton and Hove where you get totally authentic Thai food. The food is cooked to order by a charming Thai lady. There are only 2 tables but this is a must They do takeaways also. Would give it 10 stars if I could

We loved to eat there. It's tiny and this is what makes it so magical. You feel home while you watch the family pictures on the walls. Good choice of wines and really great food.

I have visited twice now, and both times the Lady cooking has been extremely helpful and friendly and explains thoroughly what goes into each dish and how spicy or not you can have it. Today, I thought I would turn up and look at the menu and decide, but the wonderful lady offered a cod dish that she was trying out with steamed rice and vegetables and salad, so I thought, give it a try. It was fantastic, just as she had described it, got me to check it was not too spicy before serving it, and the flavours were wonderful. Only a small place, but well worth visiting.

I was looking for a bubble tea and found this place in Brighton, the lady in the shop recommended a traditional milk tea with mango jelly, I thought it sounded a bit weird but tried it. It was absolutely delicious. I also got a tropical fruit tea which was refreshing and yummy. Highly recommend!

Love this place so much, they have amazing dim sum that you can just eat there and if you love what you eat, you can buy it for your freezer. The staff are so lovely and there is so many different groceries you can buy too.

Incredible food, comfortable seating and friendly staff. Satay Chicken Dish was absolutely incredible . Will be definitely coming back for that soon. PadThai was really good too, one small thing I’d say is it felt a little bit dry more than I’d like it, not the best PadThai I’ve had but still really good! Thank you.

We had a wonderful meal here. I took us a while to find the restaurant because it’s in the bar the brick but after a confusing start we were show to our seat by a friendly member of staff. Wine was good food fantastic. I will dream of those mutton rolls forever. If you’ve never tried Sri Lankan food this is a really good place to start. The staff were attentive even bring money back that we excellently over paid. It makes me want to go back to Brighton just to eat here again.
