Tasty food but on the expensive side for portion given, sushi looked good

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Norwich, with a gorgeous view. Food was incredible and service was lovely! We were served by a lovely gentleman who spoke us through our sharing platter. Highly recommend to all sushi lovers!

The service at Shiki was great. We loved the experience and even had a waiter show us how to use the chopsticks. The food also was good however the portion sizes were small and we couldn’t really make out some of the names on the menu. The ambience of the restaurant isn’t really picturesque, it’s giving minimalist Asian dining which I guess isn’t that bad. Nonetheless, I would recommend to someone who’s looking to experience the Japanese dining.

Our go-to place for sushi in Norwich, we visit regularly if we are looking for a guaranteed good meal. prices are reasonably, sushi is excellent and fresh and all the staff are pleasant and friendly.

Delicious and fresh tasting sushi among other Japanese dishes. Still a bit expensive for what it is, but not as expensive as other Japanese restaurants of similar style and size that I've visited. Overall a great evening with great food.

Absolutely love this place. They have quite a lot of vegan options (including a new vegan miso soup which was amazing) but nothing is labelled as vegan so you have to ask your server and go through all the veggie options to find out, which is a real shame as they have lots of good vegan options and modifications available. In my opinion they should make this more obvious because more people need to eat their yummy food. The miso aubergine is a real highlight for me!

I love this restaurant in our home city. Food is always wonderful. Service is efficient and very friendly. Just a wonderful place to be.

Food was delicious, especially the Katsu Don, service was lovely and the space is beautiful and spacious for family. One comment about the sushi tho, on the very small size, order the inside out rolls looks like the sushi is from the end bit of the rolls, rice falling apart and not holding together. Also order the soft shells crabs roll there are more fillings then rice.. All of our sushi dishes feels like they ran out of rice, what a shame otherwise would be a perfect score for me.

Best sushi in Norwich BY FAR, had ordered some of their stuff online and it was pretty good but my word you have to eat in. Beautiful outside with a very well managed interior space. Sushi is fresh and sublime, if on a date then the Sushi lover's platter is a must have ( my favortie, the yellowfin tuna, melts like butter.) Friendly service with affordable prices 10/10 recommend

Just wow.. I had the karaage Bento for lunch and everything in it was flavourful and beautifully prepared. The fried chicken was freshly fried, perfectly marinated and tender (dark meat, not tough cuts like the breast). The sashimi was fatty, even the potato salad had this wonderful tang. It was comforting, homey food - like someone had put a lot of effort into every single element. And, it was affordable, I actually felt full afterwards and it was unpretentious.

We visit Shiki 2-3 times a year for a Sushi lovers for 2:) Its quite pricey but I don't mind paying for a quality. What I am missing is Miso soup - which was served with this dish before and now it's not. We also have had recently Green Tea Tiramisu - its' just wow:) honestly. We will be back in Easter for another lot:)

I couldn't recommend Shiki enough. The staff were extremely receptive of our needs, and were able to answer all the questions we had with no problem, which made ordering an absolute breeze. We both have dietary restrictions, and felt confident when ordering the food. The food was brilliant. We ordered an array of sushi, all of which was elegantly presented, and might just be the best I've had in years. We stayed a little later than others who were dining around us, meaning we were the only ones left in that room, although the restaurant was still open. At no point did we feel rushed to finish up, and the staff regularly checked if we needed anything in an unobtrusive way. Whilst it isn't cheap, the food and overall dining experience at Shiki was fantastic, and I'd thoroughly recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Whenever cravings for authentic Japanese food kicked in I’d travel from Colchester just for the sake of dining at Shiki. (I’m Japanese by the way…) I’ve been to various places offering Japanese-y cuisines not just in London but around the globe, but my word this place was literally one’s home-away-from-home at an affordable price that wouldn’t break your wallet. With a cherry blossom tree just outside the restaurant who’d have thought you’d feel so nostalgic in the East of England? I’ll definitely be back when I return to the UK!

Japanese is not my first choice for eating out but my son loves it and this was his treat. However I really enjoyed my Bento box. The fish was perfectly fresh and the seared tuna the best I have had outside of California. I will be back.

Bad services, food standard is getting worse. 2023.07.18 Received strange message from Shiki saying thank you for the politeness and finished all the food. I have to say even his services are bad, it does not mean we shall shout to him. When I said the food standard is getting worse, it does not mean that we shall waste the food. Actually, the beef was overcooked and the fish was not fresh. Does not worth that much. Other Japanese restaurants such as Soyokaze offers better services and value. 2023.11.28 Rec' the Shiki owner comment that Soyokaze people had worked for them before. Haha, that mean the apprentice now is better than this "so-called" master! Haha, this is a funny guy who like to show his weakness, haha, very funny!

Really good sushi with a much better variety of fish you normally find, it’s not just salmon! Some Japanese staff too. The menu is a little confusing & if you’re not familiar with Japanese terms you may find you need help but they will help.

Incredible sushi and sashimi - made even better by the lovely staff! We were a table of six, with two pescatarians and a gluten-free diner - they accommodated us with no trouble at all! There was so much food to choose from, highly recommend the Shiki Sushi Bento box!!

The Unadon was absolutely delicious, and I would recommend having it with an Ontama as well. The prawn/vegetable tempura and the miso soup are also recommended. The service is attentive and polite, and the atmosphere is clean and calming. The restaurant is located in tomb land close to the Cathedral.

Place looks awesome! But the food is not too good. Much rice little fish. Also the owner, although Japanese, is very unfriendly. She yells at her personnel, which I can’t appreciate.

We were looking for Japanese for our evening meal. Found Shiki on Google. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very tasty and was served quickly. Quite a good selection of vegetarian food and quite an extensive menu. We can really recommend this place.

Shiki was an incredible experience! While it may be on the pricier side, the quality of their sushi surpasses any other sushi restaurant I've been to. Dining with a party of three, we opted for the bento boxes, which were not only generous in size but also came with a delicious miso soup to kick things off. The taste was exceptional, and the staff's politeness and attentiveness, especially given that we hadn't made a reservation and decided to dine on a whim, made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Lovely food and great service. Furst time in the upstairs dining room and it had a really good atmosphere. Great sashimi...good selection of sake...really enjoyable experience.

Shiki is the best sushi place in Norwich. I love the cosy vibes and staff are full of knowledge about the menu aswell. They are always helpful and attentive. Sashimi platter,tempura prawn rolls and salmon gunkan. I also had to drink plum saké recommended by the server who was amazing. Thank you so much.

Wow!!! Simply wow! Everything about my visit here was amazing. The food itself was delicious and incredibly good value for money, we couldn’t believe how much we ate and how little the bill was! Also a huge shout out to the fantastic serving team who looked after us and also the amazing kitchen staff. They really went above and beyond and made us feel incredibly welcomed and appreciated throughout our visit. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who love Japanese food! 🍣

We don't have many Japanese restaurants in Norwich but my view is this place is excellent. When I go I always go for the tapas style of eating here and it has never let me down, the tempura is excellent , as is the tepenyaki, as are the salads and a quick mention to the wonderful beef teriyaki. I could go on but I won't. There is such a choice, maybe 60 to 70 dishes, all served perfectly. The staff are brilliant and the price very good.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Norwich city centre, not far from the cathedral. Excellent selection on the menu, with some nods to local fish (such as Cromer crab). Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and highly efficient. All the food came extremely quickly and was the best quality.

Shiki is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Norwich. I’ve been here a few times now and have enjoyed it every time. As someone who lived in Japan for a few years I really appreciate the fact that the food is high quality and doesn’t stray into the Munch scream-inducing, Wagamama realm of ‘fusion Asian cuisine’ 🤮😱. Whether it’s noodle dishes you’re after (I recommend in particular the hearty niku udon and, if it’s summer, the cooling zaru udon), bentō style lunches, a mixture of sashimi and sushi rolls (there’s a good range available for this with the fish always fresh and tasty) or some tasty age tōfu or karaage sides, Shiki does a sterling job of providing a delicious range of Japanese cuisine. There are also a number of excellent sake and Japanese whiskies available to wash down your food. The location is pretty central, and the staff are friendly, prompt and highly professional. As its name suggests, Shiki (四季 meaning ‘four seasons’) is a restaurant for all seasons.

Really enjoy the dining experience, the food can be on the pricier side. We had the sushi lover, it is great for two people to try out different sushi and sashimi

Authentic Japanese food, beautifully presented. Never fails to please.

We've always struggled to find authentic tasting Japanese food in the UK but this place really hit the spot! We were greeted by a super friendly member of staff and seated in a room with windows open along one side to let lots of nice fresh air in. The solid wood benches do become uncomfortable after a short while though, something that may be worth considering if you have a disability or movement issues. The lunch menu caters for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans, with plenty of options available should you want to mix and match things. We both ordered the bento box options. I'm allergic to peanuts and even though we were told there were no peanuts on the premises a note about it was added to my order anyway, which was a very nice touch. When the food arrived it was fresh and well presented, with plenty of variety. Both myself and my wife commented on how it took us right back to being in Japan, especially the miso soup and the pickles. Everything was well cooked and full of flavour, the sashimi being a particular highlight of mine. Lunch for 2 people including drinks cost £45 which I feel is very good for the quality of the food and the service you get. We will definitely be coming back here again.

Have been coming here ever since Jay Rayner raved about this place after a bad experience in a mich starred Norwich restaurant and the food/experience at Shiki is still excellent! I’ve eaten sushi/sashimi many times in the far-East and Shiki has an on-par quality. (Last visit two weeks ago from this posting.)

A really good experience. The food was excellent, the sushi in particular was a highlight. The service was friendly and efficient. The tables are are arranged giving a decent atmosphere and it was also good value.

The food at this Shiki was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they couldn't have been more accommodating with their recommendations. The outside seating was great, with a view great view of Tombland. If you like sushi, I couldn't recommend this place enough.

I use to love coming here (WHEN IT WASN’T COVID-19 WHEN THE SHOP CLOSED AT 3PM, I’M TALKING ABOUT BEFORE COVID-19) how was I supposed to know about the time changed and I heard other people say that you rush people to finish their food in less than the hour but still it’s a short hour business most places do have last order but atleast they finished closed at 3pm

Unbelievable food. Plenty of veggie options. I’ve never tasted anything as good as the aubergine tempura and the matcha tiramisu isn’t something I’d usually go for but it was delicious. Great location and nice ambience too.

Honestly since moving back to Norwich from Japan this is the closest I've had to authentic Japanese food. It took me back to being in Japan. Cannot wait to return to the restaurant.

Underwhelmed. Flavourless ohitashi. Undercooked tempura. Forgettable sashimi. All dishes arriving at the same time was hectic. All good if passing through. But if you are really looking for Japanese food - find elsewhere.

Food was great. The omakaze was absolutely perfect, I would definitely come back again. Don't bother with the gyoza though, not worth it.

Food was amazing however overpriced for what it is. Servers were very nice and enthusiastic. You have to pay at the counter, which seemed a bit cheap. Decor was simple at best.

A solid 4/5 for me - it might been a 5 were I not already spoiled by having tried a few places in Bristol which win out over this. Lovely food though, friendly and fast service, and the dining area upstairs was nice and spacious. Recommend if you are after some good Japanese food.

Shiki restaurant's atmosphere was disappointing, lacking the pleasant ambiance I expected. However, I must admit the food was fairly enjoyable. Nonetheless, their customer treatment needs improvement. As a fellow restaurant staff member in London, I believe they should strive for fair and respectful interactions with their customers. Manners go a long way in creating a positive dining experience.

Moreover, the servers displayed a lack of knowledge about the menu when I asked for recommendations, leaving me feeling uninformed and uncertain about what to order. The most glaring issue, however, was the staff's utter disregard for basic manners. They were dismissive and seemed uninterested in ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Requests for additional condiments or water refills were met with sighs and eye-rolls, further adding to my frustration. It is disheartening to encounter such lackluster customer service, especially in a restaurant that prides itself on Japanese cuisine and hospitality. While the food may have its own merits, the overall experience was marred by the unprofessionalism and disregard for customers' needs. I sincerely hope that Shiki takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving their customer service and staff training. It is essential for any establishment to prioritize genuine hospitality and courtesy towards its patrons, as these qualities greatly impact the overall dining experience. I regret to say that I will not be returning to Shiki in the future, and I would hesitate to recommend it to others who seek exceptional service and a warm dining environment. SIDE NOTE: This is a 100% honest review, did see a reply on the review they accused the guy of getting paid for leaving a bad review. This restaurant can’t take criticism.

Best sushi place in Norwich. The food was so so good and the service was too. The crab tempera was delicious and the DV was amazing too. Can't recommend enough.

Excellent Japanese. The yakitori was excellent although not a juicy as in Japan as it was not chicken neck. Bento boxes and sushi are also amazing. Will definitely come again, the service and did were excellent and all for very reasonable prices

I've been here twice now for my anniversary and loved it both times. Our server was lovely, knowledgeable and very cool. They took good care of us :) I felt like a lot of thought was put into the order our food came out even though we said we didn't have a preference. I didn't expect this because it's apparently "izakaya" style now, but it instead felt very thoughtful. We got all our fried vegetable dishes along with a salad and gyoza, then fried chicken with rice with miso soup, then sushi, then chicken skewers to finish off the meal. It all arrived very quickly too, right after finishing our previous plates. The food was delicious, my favourite was the fried chicken and the mooli sushi roll which had a great crunch and sourness. It made me pick up some from a supermarket for the first time so I can add it to my own dishes! It's not exactly an issue but the upstairs isn't as cosy, I much prefer being downstairs. All in all it was great! I can't afford to eat here often but for special occasions it's a lovely treat ❤

To quote the F.O.H waiter with a poor attitude "I'm too busy right now"... So he didn't seat us and we just awkwardly hung around the entrance and left when we realised we were truly being ignored. A positive is we went to Soyokaze instead which was a far more pleasant experience and the sushi incredibly fresh!

The food is absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and well-cooked. The Japanese couple who run the place are incredibly friendly and have been open for an impressive 19 years. I highly recommend this restaurant and can't wait to visit again when I‘m back to Norwich!

Went here last night to celebrate mine and my partner’s anniversary. I booked a few weeks prior for 7:15pm but they changed the booking for 7pm the day before. Luckily I noticed on the email and asked if it could be changed back which they got a bit funny about on the phone. I know it was only 15mins I can see in other reviews this has happened before but they changed it by a few hours so please make sure you check this! The guy behind the bar wasn’t that friendly and didn’t show us to our table, we waited 15 minutes afterwards and still didn’t get a any menu, saw another couple come in after us and got a menu straight away. I asked if I could have one and got snapped at a few times to wait a minute. The waiters weren’t that friendly and mixed up some orders. But the the food is absolutely amazing! If it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t have had a nice time coming here. When we went to pay the man behind the till suddenly changed his attitude by acting very friendly (guessing for a tip) but due to the service from him we didn’t give him one. If we could of just tripped the chefs we would of. I hope the mannerism of the waiters towards their paying customers change as it wasn’t a very nice experience especially when our bill nearly came to £100.

Delicious food! Each dish comes as it is ready - primarily dishes to share. They also serve curry with rice and katsu chicken if you want a more substantial dish. The Rekishi Chips are the best chips you will ever have!

We had received an email less than 20 mins before our reservation to advise us that it had been pushed to another time. Unfortunately, I don't check my emails/phone all the time so we got to the restaurant at the time we had booked only to be told "you're early, so..." without an apology to explain they had to push our reservation to a later time (which we still didn't know) or that they were preparing our table. So they left us standing there for over ten minutes, to which we decided to leave. I can imagine being busy they forgot they had changed our reservation time, but still, they had time to welcome and speak to other customers whereas we were just left in a corner with a "you're early" as if it was our fault.

This was the best Japanese I have ever had. The environment was minimalistic yet so authentic. It was a busy Saturday evening, but the staff were polite and pleasant. We had to wait a little bit for the food but understandable as it was busy. I had the bento box which was something I have never had before and it really was a lovely experience. I cannot wait to go back!

Had a wonderful meal. We ordered Tempura, the luxury sushi for 2 and a beef teriyaki. All the dishes were delicious. Two of us went at 6.30 and stayed till gone 9. There was no pressure for us to leave to make way for others. Will definitely be returning.

The Miso soup and chicken katsu donburi were great, and the beef yakisoba was ok. The teriyaki chicken uramaki and the salmon onigiri were pretty tasteless… could be better. Service was great.

Booked a table, waited 40 minutes for the food

Shiki is a Japanese restaurant located at 6 Tombland, Norwich NR3 1HE. The boss and the chef are Japanese. The sushi lover priced £38 which is worth to try. Niku Udon has a very tastful warm soup with Udon. Highly recommended. また美味しい和食を楽しみにしています。

First impressions were not good, customer service is few and far between- the worst I think I have ever experienced. We had to wait 15 minutes after being seated just to get a menu and made to feel bad for asking for one. Food did come promptly and was really delicious, the bento box option is a great idea. I especially like the tempura and the spicy prawns- some of the best ever! Throughout the meal we were not asked if it was okay and I was so desperate for another drink but there were no staff around to ask or even anywhere to go up to. Even at home I can get a glass of water. This spoiled he experience for me. At the end of the meal out boxes were not cleaned away and we were not asked if we would like anything else- I would have like to have tried the plum wine! Such a shame amazing food is let down by poor customer service and what seemed like a lack of waiting staff. Left feeling terrible as a result. Avoid if you want to be treated nicely.

The food may well be great but I won’t be eating here with my party of 8 very hungry people after the snotty attitude I just received from the “host”. If you don’t have a menu outside then don’t be surprised when the public walk in to see what style of Japanese food you do. It’s just basic courtesy guys.
