Soyokaze Japanese Restaurant in Norwich

Relaxed atmosphere, great service and authentic flavours! We got miso soup ,ebi katsu , wakame salad, veggie volcano rolls, veggie gyoza and ebi ten rolls and it was more than enough for 2 people. Everything was prepared with fresh ingredients and tasted amazing!!

The food was amazing. We ate lots of starters as we wanted to try lots of dishes and we were not disappointed. Definitely going back.

Great japanese food for reasonable price. the Ramen bowl and extra side of noodles are a particular favourite but the sushi here is also very good and tastes fresh. Recommend booking ahead as this place gets full very quickly when its open and seating can be limited.

Amazing food, service and vibe!

This was incredible. Words can't describe. But I will try. I had the ramen, my friend had the spicy salmon as a main. We were not disappointed. I'm not saying all of life answers can be found in the ramen. But it did make a lot of things ok that were not ok before eating the ramen. Seriously incredible

Probably the best and most authentic Japanese Tonkotsu ramen I’ve had in the UK - I highly recommend it. The sushi is also great, made fresh to order and the volcano rolls are particularly amazing. The food is always consistently made to an excellent quality with decent portion sizes, which seems to differ to a lot of restaurants around Norwich and other cities. Well worth the money, you won’t be disappointed.

Service is fine as staff were polite and helpful. We sat at the window table so we had a beautiful view for our dinner. However, I think the food is a big minus as it’s mediocre but pretty overpriced compared to its quality. We ordered: 8 pcs spicy volcano rolls, 1 miso soup, 1 tonkotsu ramen, and 1 veggie donburi. Total: £56.85 The spicy volcano rolls and miso soup were both quite basic. They were okay to eat but there would not be much to comment on from my friend or myself. My friend ordered tonkotsu ramen. She appreciates that the broth was quite rich but a tad bland. The broth was cold. Having taste tested the broth, I think the pork smell was unpleasantly overpowering. My friend said that the only thing she enjoyed was the tamari egg. However, as it costed £18.95, we would expect a bit more from this dish. Coming back to our airbnb, my friend said that she didn’t feel really well after eating the ramen. I think it’s quite alert. Veggie donburi: the toppings were fine and refreshing. I did enjoy the pickled. However, the rice seemed cold like it had been cooked for a few hours but not kept warm. And so the rice couldn’t blend in with the flavours of the toppings. Everything plated in the donburi seemed not complementing each other to me. And it was £17 for this.

When you go to any restaurant for the first time you hope the food will be good (of course). We cook a lot of different cuisines at home and so when we eat out we want to experience something special. All the food was obviously freshly prepared, delicious and authentic. Wakame salad was sensational. The ambience was relaxed and the wait staff were genuinely friendly. I can't bear it when music in a restaurant is cheesy, loud and clashes, but at Soyokaze the music throughout was unobtrusive, classy and definitely added to the dining experience. The person who served us was a genuine delight too- polite, very cheerful and attentive. This place is a breath of fresh air, a gentle breeze, soyokaze.

First time here and I like the first dishes I had. I really like the Miso soup.

Got takeaway from here which was brilliant. Had the prawn Katsu and California rolls - would def recommend.

Rude and aggressive chef made this an appalling experience. We ordered a number of dishes and we’re sharing them all. Suddenly the chef appeared looking looking really annoyed and told that we should not share one of the dishes as that was not his intention when he made it. I thanked him for his input but he kept repeating himself looking increasingly angry. My daughter found him very intimidating. It is a tiny restaurant of only about 4 tables so the atmosphere was then palpable. When we paid I mentioned to the waitress that we hadn’t enjoyed being told off. The chef then came to the front of the kitchen as we were leaving giving fixed angry stares looking so aggressive I actually thought he was going to come out and start and argument. An expensive lunch and the most incredibly awful experience and the hands of a very angry man. Stay away.

The best place to get sushi in the City, this place is fantastic.

They would not accept outside drinks (no notice anywhere on the door). Otherwise fine.

Very good. The Gyoza were tasty. The Takoyaki were small but also very good. The pork Katsu was awesome, juicy with a crisp coating!

This was our second visit (we were there in Sept 23) and it was as good as we remembered. We had the Ramen, deep fried gyozas, and Takoyaki. All super tasty, coupled with polite, friendly service. Well worth a visit, there's a lunch menu too, but we didn't have time for that too this trip, shame!.

Myself and my husband came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint! It was our first time visiting this restaurant and the service and food did not fail to impress. The food was fresh and served hot and service was very quick. Being lovers of the Japanese cuisine, all the food we had (seafood tempura, takoyaki, Tonkotsu ramen and unagi donburi) were faultless and unbelievably delicious. I had ordered the ramen and the broth was absolutely drool worthy and having tried my husband’s meal, the eel literally melted in your mouth. I really really recommend this place if you like this type of food. We will 100% visit here again.

We had a day out in Norwich and stumbled on this great little place for lunch. The sashimi, dragon rolls, gyoza and tempura vegetables were all excellent, and the katsu lunch options with rice and miso soup are good value. I wish I lived nearer so I could go more often! Highly recommended.

great food & atmosphere! Went for dinner - big dishes range about £16-18; or small dishes for cheaper. I got tempura and some sushi and it was delicious. Worth going during lunchtime as they have a cheaper lunch menu.

Was looking for ages for a great ramen place near us, found Soyokaze on google search. We were not disappointed! Great atmosphere, friendly staff, delicious food! From starters to mains we really can't fault it. Definitely recommended.

Food was super high quality. Everything down to the strength and temperature of the green tea was perfect. Sashimi quality was great and eel nigiri had amazing flavour. Service was great, staff are very friendly. No real complaints or faults.

Had the BEST lunch here today. The service was great- really friendly waitresses who were happy to recommend their favourites, accompanied by a really chill atmosphere. The food was incredible- I had the chicken gyozas followed by the spicy salmon teriyaki, which came with a miso starter, and rice and salad on the side. Really filling and great value for money. I can’t wait to come back!

Ramen was excellent and staff were pleasent. My wife had a rice dish which included some pickled veg that were a bit overpowering in terms of flavour. We were upstairs and the decor was scruffy. I'm surprised they didn't take a bit more care, particularly as the food is not cheap. Broken blind in the window, black plastic bag shoved up fireplace, tissues under all the tables to prop them up, dead looking plant and some stains on the wall. I think if they took a bit more care with the general presentation of the place it would be a four or five.

This place is a Norwich treasure. A superb slice of authentic Japan through familiar and accessible food. I eat here regularly for lunch. The chef(s) are trained in Japan, or at least in the traditional manner and produce reliably high quality food from what are clearly superior ingredients. I have had Japanese food my whole life and lived in Japan, so finding a place like this was brilliant, but a total newbie or nervous eater would have no problem here. It is the sort of restaurant that would draw a huge following in the middle of any big global city. The price is correct for the years of training, location, and quality of produce. The proof is the quality of the food.

Brilliant place. Hidden gem of a restaurant in Norwich 💝

Visited this restaurant tonight. I can honestly say that it was the worst service I have ever had in a Sushi restaurant. It took over an hour to get any food. The ramen was noodles (minuscule) and 2 pieces of pork. The Nigiri was dire. Accompanied with terrible service. As a solo I paid just short of £79 and didn’t even get a smile or a thank you when leaving. Won’t ever be going back !

Came for dinner with family. Has great range of Japanese cuisine. Food is always delicious and hot. Very friendly waiters and staff. One of the hidden gems in norwich.

An excellent family meal. The family thoroughly enjoyed their Ramen noodles and I loved my chicken katsu which was tasty but slightly dry, but that is to be expected with a crumbed dish. The rice was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive and the ambience really lovely. I recommend an upstairs table.

Service was brilliant and the food was good. Surprised that service charge wasn't included in the bill. Considering how attentive, quick and efficient the service was I would recommend paying whatever you feel comfortable for the service charge.

Blown away by this little miracle of a place. Came in quite late but they were able to seat us and deliver some really fantastic food. All tastes and types will find something to enjoy, and their selection of alcohol was incredible! Will definitely be visiting again 😁

The price is at the pricey end but the food is generally quite nice.

I've been told good things about this place, but I was quite disappointed. Let's start that their Tonkotsu Ramen was below average. I though maybe it was only me, but my friends that came with me confirmed that as well. It does not help that there wasn't a lot of ramen and the price of it is £19. I can't justify that it. We left just under £100 as 3 people. The atmosphere needs work as well, actually a lot. The place feels empty and grim. The only redeeming part was the service. The people working there were great. But at the end, I would not recommend going there.

Authentic Japanese food They’re not offering any sushi anymore but some extra vegetarian options have been added to the menu. Highly recommend the Teriyaki tofu steak. Soft silken tofu coated in crispy skin. Perfect with the teriyaki sauce. The stir-fry vegetables are the extra plus so you don’t have to order a vegetable side. Friendly staff and comfortable environment with Japanese decor.

Amazing gem of a place. The food was delicious and would highly recommend the ramen. Great variety of dishes and sushi. The sake was lovely too. Staff super friendly and the whole atmosphere was perfect. Update: been again for lunch and it was also amazing. Had the pork katsu which came with mizo and rice. So so nice. The pork was tender and delicious. Had a lovely pot of green tea with it

I was recommended to go to this restaurant to have Sushi but when I went there the sushi was not available anymore. I had other raw fish and rice and but the quality was not good. I wouldn't recommend to go there to have fresh fish menu. But other lunch menu prices were affordable.

Tasty, authentic-like food and nice ambience! Very friendly and professional staff. Some suggestions for improvement: The agedashidofu could have been a little bit more flavorful and the tonkotsu broth tasted a bit like chicken instead of pork. Also, the glasses had a weird smell. Other than that, very nice restaurant

Soyokaze remains the best Japanese restaurant in Norwich although the portion size has noticeably dropped which is understandable due to rising costs. The pork katsu was great but the eel was not as good as it used to be.

The food and service is lovely, however unfortunately half of the vegetarian and vegan options either contain fish stock or are cooked in the same oil as fish and therefore there are very limited options. Perhaps you could find an alternative way of cooking the veggie options to allow for more choices, as we would’ve loved to order a lot more off the menu but were unable to.

Good, simple food that tastes great.

I went with a friend a couple of weeks ago, the food I had was nice (vegetarian) but I wish there were more vegie options. I was also disappointed that there wasn't a vegetarian ramen. My friend did not enjoy her food as much, but what I had was lovely. It was a bit awkward as they brought food randomly, I got my first dish, and my friend kept waiting, I got my second dish, and my friend kept waiting, then her food came and I kept waiting, her second dish came and I was still waiting, then, I had my main! It was just awkward. It was a good experience but I won't be back.

Fantastic Japanese food. Their ramen is famous in local circles, sushi is always delicious and the staff are always warm and welcoming.

Absolutely wonderful little joint. We ordered a bit of everything. It was all wonderfully well presented and looked professionally preparred and laid out upon arrival at our table. The sushi, sashimi, everything was incredibly tasty and flavourful. However, for me personally the biggest standout dish were the Volanco rolls. I have not been able to stop thinking about them since and I almost came back the next day for more, but unfortunately it was a Sunday and Soyokaze was closed. I have also been singing their praises to everyone I've spoken to about our night at Soyokaze. I will absolutely be coming back again. I would give 11/10 if I could. And Soyokaze is in the running for my favourite eatery in Norwich. Incredible.

A simple and satisfying menu with great service

Went for a special occasion, a little disappointed. Other diners were loud, forever getting up and down, taking calls, going in and out which ruined our lunch. The glasses were water marked. The food was enjoyable and staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

Delicious food and quite affordable. The pork tonkotsu ramen was the best I ever had in the UK.

Lovely food and nice helpful staff. Couldn't finish the ramen I was so full. Quite expensive for what it is, but everything is now I suppose. It is very tiny downstairs we didn't really enjoy our meal because a very large noisy party sat less than a foot from us and people brushing past us constantly up and down to answer their phones. Would certainly try again if upstairs is a little roomier.

If you’re looking for authentic and really yummy sushi this is not the place. However- ambiance is lovely, the decor and plates are very pretty

This is a very popular place to eat ! It’s a really fab Japanese. Food is utterly delicious. We had a selection of hot and cold dishes . All really great - The sashimi was particularly tasty. Would thoroughly recommend

Delicious food that is always freshly made. To avoid disappointment, book in advance as they are often booked up. Staff are always very friendly and prices are reasonable. If you want to try something a bit more authentic than Wagamama’s this is the first place in Norwich you should try. You won’t be disappointed.

First time eating here this evening and definitely not the last! Wonderfully friendly staff, lovely surroundings and absolutely delicious food, beautiful presentation and so flavourful. I've been procrastinating about coming for ages (I don't go in to the city much) but I'd absolutely drive in to Norwich to eat here any time. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Tonkotsu broth isn't very authentic, and neither were the nigiri (is not vinegared).

pricing after the increase is absurd. While there's no competition on ramen, its just 'okay' usually with bits of fat floating around, not something that should be charged for 17.5 that aside food is 'okay' nothing special

Honestly gutted. Me and my partner booked a table for our 1 year anniversary because we had our first date here. We showed up 10 minutes early and were told our table is not ready and to "wait outside" despite there being free tables. Other people walked in and were seated before us while we continued to stand outside. We went to matane instead, very disappointed as we were looking forward to celebrating our anniversary there.

Came with my partner for a birthday meal. Servers are all incredibly kind and make you feel so welcome. This is the case every time we come here. The lady who served us was so nice, I wish I had asked her name. The food is outstanding, and I would recommend it to everyone.

The best ramen I've ever had. The broth is absolutely stunning.

Delicious sushi - very fresh and well made, quite a nice selection too, including eel. Friendly staff. Cosy place with nice window seats for those eating alone, offering upstairs seating too. My only criticism would be that maybe the green walls could be decorated more because otherwise they're quite bland. Expensive but not too expensive, and besting in quality some other places in Norwich (haven't tried Shiki yet). I've seen that they offer lunch menu for a decent price; definitely worth having it if you're in town between 12:00 and 14:30.

Food quality was good, but service leaves something to be desired. I ordered a small mix sashimi which should be three pieces of three different fish. They didn’t have enough tuna so they replaced it with another fish instead, but they neglected to inform me to see if I still wanted the dish or not, and there was no apology made when I asked why the dish was not as I ordered. Downgraded to two stars as when I raised my concerns with their staff and manager they became argumentative and wouldn’t accept responsibility for any of my concerns…

The food here was delicious, while the menu was limited what they did was done really well. Unfortunately the service wasn't particularly great and that wasn't because of how we were treated but overhearing the manager having a go at a family with a small child about being late. He must of said this so loudly and so many times, it was embarrassing, especially with a child at the table. It did ruin our experience and the atmosphere.

Sushi here is absolutely incredible. The strawberry cheesecake mochi is to die for. The restaurant is ambient and the food is always beautifully presented

Really good food, super kind staff
