Food was very good however service was slow and our booking was questioned upon arrival by quite a a rude staff member

I am Japanese and have lived in the UK for a long time. I was convinced you can't really get authentic Japanese food that's affordable in the UK but this is it guys. Me and my partner have said this is officially the best Japanese restaurant we have been to in the UK and it won't break the bank. All the staff I came across were Japanese. In Manchester, there are loads of Japanese restaurants but they are always slightly wrong. I wish we had Shiki here. Not only the food was lovely but all the staff we spoke to were lovely too. Please go here if you want to try real Japanese food in the UK. I'm a Japanese person who grew up in England. I've tried a lot of Japanese restaurants, but I think this is the closest to real Japanese food in the UK. Still, it's reasonable, so I'm glad it's a plus! If I have the chance to go to Norwich again someday, I will definitely go there.

Our annual trip to Norwich wouldn’t be complete without a trip here - outstanding food and good, friendly service. My partner loves sushi and this is the best place he’s found.

WOW ! What a great experience, we have never been here before and we loved it. We went for my birthday and it was a fab choice. The restaurant is sparse but the tables and benches are comfortable and you dont have to share a table. And to be honest its all about the food ! I didnt really know much about Japanese food so i studied the trip advisor photos and showed the member of staff what food i wanted to try. The staff are friendly and will help you. We cant wait to go back, the food was amazing. Dont be put off by trying something new . Its really worth it. A great find

I have been visiting Shiki for many many years, nearly two decades, I have been there with my family and friends on many occasions and rate it as good as you get outside of Japan where I did spend a couple of years working. The food is always excellent as is the service, sometimes I just pop in on my own and eat at the bar, I love visiting this place, if I lived closer I’d quite happily dine there 3-4 times a week. Just remember to book, turning up expecting to get a table is taking a chance, so give them a call, or book online. Highly recommended.

Loved the salmon bento box and especially the hot plum wine. Especially as I had a chest infection. Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Busy. We arrived at about 7pm and fully booked. Highly recommend.

I found this apalling. The owner was so arroyannt and rude. On the first day the attitude was, “”Where is my drink?” I’’ll serve yoo when I want to . Second day was, “i don’t care it you are disabled, pay at the counter.” The owner is a rude disgrace.

My partner and I arrived just as Shiki was opening, and got sat immediately. The staff were super attentive, everything was fresh and so tasty! We both had a bento box each and a side each, and it was 100% worth the money that we spent!

One of the best Japanese food that we have had in recent times. Special mention of our waitress: Trish, her recommendations were excellent ! Good ambience, courteous staff. Tried Dream roll ( delicious crispy pan fried sushi), Sea food Udon & Spicy Tempura prawn. A very good place to try 🇯🇵 cuisine !!

We treated ourselves to this lovely Japanese restaurant in a beautiful setting in the heart of Norwich. Service & food was excellent. Lots of options to choose from. First taste of Japanese whisky was superb & first taste of Mochi ice cream delicious. Would highly recommend.

Not a bad dish to be had on the menu. However the nigiri and the softshell crab tempura were the standouts of the evening. An easy recommendation

It was an absolutely wonderful experience, great authentic food, exceptional service and the soft shell crab is something special in my books. I'll definitely be going back, even if it's just for the crab!

If you're looking for fresh, flavorful sushi and don't mind a lighter meal, Shiki is definitely worth checking out.

Shiki continues to be among the best restaurants in Norwich. As usual, the food was excellent, the service was great, and the music was also surprisingly relevant to my tastes. Will keep coming back until I either move away or perish.

Shiki jas become our go to, always had amazing food but this time was made especially special by Matty/Matti? (Didn't ask for the spelling) their light humour, conduct and graciousness left and impact that will have us returning time and time again. Hope they serve us again next time.

Ordered sushi for delivery, my order was very late, and when it eventually arrived, it only contained one item I ordered as a side, and not the main course, to my surprise and frustration. The UberEats rider advised that they were not given anything else to deliver. When I contacted the restaurant, zero assistance was provided - the manager said that the second part of my order was there with them, but did not offer a solution for me to actually receive the missing items. I contacted UberEats and when I eventually got through, I was told that the sushi dishes I had ordered were actually out of stock (how is that possible for a sushi restaurant??). If that were the case, why was I able to add those dishes to my basket and complete the order, and in any case, why did the manager provide me with the exact opposite information? When I tried to contact the restaurant again, they did not even pick up. Of course, having wasted 2 hours (long enough for the restaurant to resolve the issue before closing for the night), I never received my order and by that point, it was too late for me to order food elsewhere.

Good food, lovely staff, but on this occasion we were unlucky enough to be sat beside a truly obnoxious, opinionated, rude, human being (12:30 Saturday 11/5) Wish we had asked to move upstairs or outside. The room is a bit live sound wise (loud and echoey). Would have liked to stay longer and maybe even have another dish, but it was just too much. Sorry Shiki, not your fault, but it ruined the experience for us.

Visited for lunch and ordered tempura, sashimi, sushi lovers’ collection, and various drinks. All superb - we were bowled away by the freshness and flavours. Beautifully presented and hugely enjoyed. Big shout-out to our server Mattie, who managed the room with aplomb. Efficient, informed (knowing immediately, when asked, the name of the herb placed under squid on a particular piece of sushi: it’s shiso leaf, in case you’re wondering!) and completely engaging. Very good value. Recommended.

Tasty food but on the expensive side for portion given, sushi looked good

The service at Shiki was great. We loved the experience and even had a waiter show us how to use the chopsticks. The food also was good however the portion sizes were small and we couldn’t really make out some of the names on the menu. The ambience of the restaurant isn’t really picturesque, it’s giving minimalist Asian dining which I guess isn’t that bad. Nonetheless, I would recommend to someone who’s looking to experience the Japanese dining.

Our go-to place for sushi in Norwich, we visit regularly if we are looking for a guaranteed good meal. prices are reasonably, sushi is excellent and fresh and all the staff are pleasant and friendly.

We visited on a Wednesday evening during a 3 day stay in Norwich. The interior of the restaurant is minimalist and plain. The service & food made up for the brightly lit, slightly clinical feel of the restaurant, however. We ordered a selection of veggie/vegan dishes including nigiri, gyoza, yaki soba & veggie dream roll all washed down with refreshing Asahi beer. No student student discount was available but the price was fair for great food.

Delicious and fresh tasting sushi among other Japanese dishes. Still a bit expensive for what it is, but not as expensive as other Japanese restaurants of similar style and size that I've visited. Overall a great evening with great food.

Sensational, took us back to our trip to Japan. Authentic Japanese cuisine, friendly and helpful staff. We could not decide which dish was the best one, they were all exceptional. The food looked good and tasted even better. We would recommend the ‘specials’ and a fun part to the evening is that you could see the chefs work by the counter. Our only regret was that we have not been there sooner- already planning when to go back.

Absolutely love this place. They have quite a lot of vegan options (including a new vegan miso soup which was amazing) but nothing is labelled as vegan so you have to ask your server and go through all the veggie options to find out, which is a real shame as they have lots of good vegan options and modifications available. In my opinion they should make this more obvious because more people need to eat their yummy food. The miso aubergine is a real highlight for me!

Best sushi in Norwich BY FAR, had ordered some of their stuff online and it was pretty good but my word you have to eat in. Beautiful outside with a very well managed interior space. Sushi is fresh and sublime, if on a date then the Sushi lover's platter is a must have ( my favortie, the yellowfin tuna, melts like butter.) Friendly service with affordable prices 10/10 recommend

Food was delicious, especially the Katsu Don, service was lovely and the space is beautiful and spacious for family. One comment about the sushi tho, on the very small size, order the inside out rolls looks like the sushi is from the end bit of the rolls, rice falling apart and not holding together. Also order the soft shells crabs roll there are more fillings then rice.. All of our sushi dishes feels like they ran out of rice, what a shame otherwise would be a perfect score for me.

Just wow.. I had the karaage Bento for lunch and everything in it was flavourful and beautifully prepared. The fried chicken was freshly fried, perfectly marinated and tender (dark meat, not tough cuts like the breast). The sashimi was fatty, even the potato salad had this wonderful tang. It was comforting, homey food - like someone had put a lot of effort into every single element. And, it was affordable, I actually felt full afterwards and it was unpretentious.

We visit Shiki 2-3 times a year for a Sushi lovers for 2:) Its quite pricey but I don't mind paying for a quality. What I am missing is Miso soup - which was served with this dish before and now it's not. We also have had recently Green Tea Tiramisu - its' just wow:) honestly. We will be back in Easter for another lot:)

I couldn't recommend Shiki enough. The staff were extremely receptive of our needs, and were able to answer all the questions we had with no problem, which made ordering an absolute breeze. We both have dietary restrictions, and felt confident when ordering the food. The food was brilliant. We ordered an array of sushi, all of which was elegantly presented, and might just be the best I've had in years. We stayed a little later than others who were dining around us, meaning we were the only ones left in that room, although the restaurant was still open. At no point did we feel rushed to finish up, and the staff regularly checked if we needed anything in an unobtrusive way. Whilst it isn't cheap, the food and overall dining experience at Shiki was fantastic, and I'd thoroughly recommend the restaurant to anyone.

Whenever cravings for authentic Japanese food kicked in I’d travel from Colchester just for the sake of dining at Shiki. (I’m Japanese by the way…) I’ve been to various places offering Japanese-y cuisines not just in London but around the globe, but my word this place was literally one’s home-away-from-home at an affordable price that wouldn’t break your wallet. With a cherry blossom tree just outside the restaurant who’d have thought you’d feel so nostalgic in the East of England? I’ll definitely be back when I return to the UK!

Japanese is not my first choice for eating out but my son loves it and this was his treat. However I really enjoyed my Bento box. The fish was perfectly fresh and the seared tuna the best I have had outside of California. I will be back.

Bad services, food standard is getting worse. 2023.07.18 Received strange message from Shiki saying thank you for the politeness and finished all the food. I have to say even his services are bad, it does not mean we shall shout to him. When I said the food standard is getting worse, it does not mean that we shall waste the food. Actually, the beef was overcooked and the fish was not fresh. Does not worth that much. Other Japanese restaurants such as Soyokaze offers better services and value. 2023.11.28 Rec' the Shiki owner comment that Soyokaze people had worked for them before. Haha, that mean the apprentice now is better than this "so-called" master! Haha, this is a funny guy who like to show his weakness, haha, very funny!

Really good sushi with a much better variety of fish you normally find, it’s not just salmon! Some Japanese staff too. The menu is a little confusing & if you’re not familiar with Japanese terms you may find you need help but they will help.

Incredible sushi and sashimi - made even better by the lovely staff! We were a table of six, with two pescatarians and a gluten-free diner - they accommodated us with no trouble at all! There was so much food to choose from, highly recommend the Shiki Sushi Bento box!!

The Unadon was absolutely delicious, and I would recommend having it with an Ontama as well. The prawn/vegetable tempura and the miso soup are also recommended. The service is attentive and polite, and the atmosphere is clean and calming. The restaurant is located in tomb land close to the Cathedral.

Very tasty food and good service, with varied izakaya-style menu and a good range of drinks. They do authentic Japanese dishes with a twist. I ordered several small dishes and all of them tasted great and well-presented. “Sushi Lovers” is a real bargain if you love sushi. Oh and don’t forget the daily specials - could be a little more expensive than other dishes on the menu, but worth it! The small selection of sake is actually quite good and reasonably priced. It was a chilly day, so I enjoyed Nambu Bijin in atsukan-style (hot). The staff is very friendly and attentive, and the chef came out a few times to see if everyone’s enjoying their meal. All in all, we had a great time at Shiki. I’d be a regular customer if I lived in Norwich.

Place looks awesome! But the food is not too good. Much rice little fish. Also the owner, although Japanese, is very unfriendly. She yells at her personnel, which I can’t appreciate.

We were looking for Japanese for our evening meal. Found Shiki on Google. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very tasty and was served quickly. Quite a good selection of vegetarian food and quite an extensive menu. We can really recommend this place.

Shiki was an incredible experience! While it may be on the pricier side, the quality of their sushi surpasses any other sushi restaurant I've been to. Dining with a party of three, we opted for the bento boxes, which were not only generous in size but also came with a delicious miso soup to kick things off. The taste was exceptional, and the staff's politeness and attentiveness, especially given that we hadn't made a reservation and decided to dine on a whim, made the experience even better. Highly recommended!

Lovely food and great service. Furst time in the upstairs dining room and it had a really good atmosphere. Great sashimi...good selection of sake...really enjoyable experience.

Shiki is the best sushi place in Norwich. I love the cosy vibes and staff are full of knowledge about the menu aswell. They are always helpful and attentive. Sashimi platter,tempura prawn rolls and salmon gunkan. I also had to drink plum saké recommended by the server who was amazing. Thank you so much.

Wow!!! Simply wow! Everything about my visit here was amazing. The food itself was delicious and incredibly good value for money, we couldn’t believe how much we ate and how little the bill was! Also a huge shout out to the fantastic serving team who looked after us and also the amazing kitchen staff. They really went above and beyond and made us feel incredibly welcomed and appreciated throughout our visit. I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who love Japanese food! 🍣

We don't have many Japanese restaurants in Norwich but my view is this place is excellent. When I go I always go for the tapas style of eating here and it has never let me down, the tempura is excellent , as is the tepenyaki, as are the salads and a quick mention to the wonderful beef teriyaki. I could go on but I won't. There is such a choice, maybe 60 to 70 dishes, all served perfectly. The staff are brilliant and the price very good.

Fantastic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Norwich city centre, not far from the cathedral. Excellent selection on the menu, with some nods to local fish (such as Cromer crab). Everything was delicious. The service was friendly and highly efficient. All the food came extremely quickly and was the best quality.

Shiki is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Norwich. I’ve been here a few times now and have enjoyed it every time. As someone who lived in Japan for a few years I really appreciate the fact that the food is high quality and doesn’t stray into the Munch scream-inducing, Wagamama realm of ‘fusion Asian cuisine’ 🤮😱. Whether it’s noodle dishes you’re after (I recommend in particular the hearty niku udon and, if it’s summer, the cooling zaru udon), bentō style lunches, a mixture of sashimi and sushi rolls (there’s a good range available for this with the fish always fresh and tasty) or some tasty age tōfu or karaage sides, Shiki does a sterling job of providing a delicious range of Japanese cuisine. There are also a number of excellent sake and Japanese whiskies available to wash down your food. The location is pretty central, and the staff are friendly, prompt and highly professional. As its name suggests, Shiki (四季 meaning ‘four seasons’) is a restaurant for all seasons.

Authentic Japanese food, beautifully presented. Never fails to please.

We've always struggled to find authentic tasting Japanese food in the UK but this place really hit the spot! We were greeted by a super friendly member of staff and seated in a room with windows open along one side to let lots of nice fresh air in. The solid wood benches do become uncomfortable after a short while though, something that may be worth considering if you have a disability or movement issues. The lunch menu caters for meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans, with plenty of options available should you want to mix and match things. We both ordered the bento box options. I'm allergic to peanuts and even though we were told there were no peanuts on the premises a note about it was added to my order anyway, which was a very nice touch. When the food arrived it was fresh and well presented, with plenty of variety. Both myself and my wife commented on how it took us right back to being in Japan, especially the miso soup and the pickles. Everything was well cooked and full of flavour, the sashimi being a particular highlight of mine. Lunch for 2 people including drinks cost £45 which I feel is very good for the quality of the food and the service you get. We will definitely be coming back here again.

Have been coming here ever since Jay Rayner raved about this place after a bad experience in a mich starred Norwich restaurant and the food/experience at Shiki is still excellent! I’ve eaten sushi/sashimi many times in the far-East and Shiki has an on-par quality. (Last visit two weeks ago from this posting.)

A really good experience. The food was excellent, the sushi in particular was a highlight. The service was friendly and efficient. The tables are are arranged giving a decent atmosphere and it was also good value.

The food at this Shiki was fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they couldn't have been more accommodating with their recommendations. The outside seating was great, with a view great view of Tombland. If you like sushi, I couldn't recommend this place enough.

I use to love coming here (WHEN IT WASN’T COVID-19 WHEN THE SHOP CLOSED AT 3PM, I’M TALKING ABOUT BEFORE COVID-19) how was I supposed to know about the time changed and I heard other people say that you rush people to finish their food in less than the hour but still it’s a short hour business most places do have last order but atleast they finished closed at 3pm

Unbelievable food. Plenty of veggie options. I’ve never tasted anything as good as the aubergine tempura and the matcha tiramisu isn’t something I’d usually go for but it was delicious. Great location and nice ambience too.

Honestly since moving back to Norwich from Japan this is the closest I've had to authentic Japanese food. It took me back to being in Japan. Cannot wait to return to the restaurant.

Underwhelmed. Flavourless ohitashi. Undercooked tempura. Forgettable sashimi. All dishes arriving at the same time was hectic. All good if passing through. But if you are really looking for Japanese food - find elsewhere.

Food was great. The omakaze was absolutely perfect, I would definitely come back again. Don't bother with the gyoza though, not worth it.

Food was amazing however overpriced for what it is. Servers were very nice and enthusiastic. You have to pay at the counter, which seemed a bit cheap. Decor was simple at best.

A solid 4/5 for me - it might been a 5 were I not already spoiled by having tried a few places in Bristol which win out over this. Lovely food though, friendly and fast service, and the dining area upstairs was nice and spacious. Recommend if you are after some good Japanese food.

Shiki restaurant's atmosphere was disappointing, lacking the pleasant ambiance I expected. However, I must admit the food was fairly enjoyable. Nonetheless, their customer treatment needs improvement. As a fellow restaurant staff member in London, I believe they should strive for fair and respectful interactions with their customers. Manners go a long way in creating a positive dining experience.

Disappointing Experience with Shiki: Poor Customer Service and Manners I recently visited Shiki, a Japanese restaurant that I had heard positive things about. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory due to the poor customer service and manners displayed by the staff. From the moment I entered the restaurant, I felt unwelcome. The host seemed disinterested and barely acknowledged my presence. I was hoping for a warm and inviting atmosphere, but instead, I received cold and indifferent treatment. As I was seated, it took an unusually long time for someone to attend to my table. The staff appeared disorganized and inattentive, despite the fact that the restaurant was not particularly busy. I had to wait far too long just to have my order taken. When my food finally arrived, I was disappointed by the quality of the dishes. They lacked the freshness and authenticity I had anticipated. Moreover, the servers displayed a lack of knowledge about the menu when I asked for recommendations, leaving me feeling uninformed and uncertain about what to order. The most glaring issue, however, was the staff's utter disregard for basic manners. They were dismissive and seemed uninterested in ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Requests for additional condiments or water refills were met with sighs and eye-rolls, further adding to my frustration. It is disheartening to encounter such lackluster customer service, especially in a restaurant that prides itself on Japanese cuisine and hospitality. While the food may have its own merits, the overall experience was marred by the unprofessionalism and disregard for customers' needs. I sincerely hope that Shiki takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving their customer service and staff training. It is essential for any establishment to prioritize genuine hospitality and courtesy towards its patrons, as these qualities greatly impact the overall dining experience. I regret to say that I will not be returning to Shiki in the future, and I would hesitate to recommend it to others who seek exceptional service and a warm dining environment. SIDE NOTE: This is a 100% honest review, did see a reply on the review they accused the guy of getting paid for leaving a bad review. This restaurant can’t take criticism.

During my experience at Shiki Japanese restaurant, I found the food to be fairly fine and the drinks enjoyable. However, it is no wonder that they struggle to attract customers due to their consistently rude manner and poor customer service.

Best sushi place in Norwich. The food was so so good and the service was too. The crab tempera was delicious and the DV was amazing too. Can't recommend enough.

Excellent Japanese. The yakitori was excellent although not a juicy as in Japan as it was not chicken neck. Bento boxes and sushi are also amazing. Will definitely come again, the service and did were excellent and all for very reasonable prices
