Shapla Tandoori in South Norfolk

Our first visit since moving to Wymondham. We had heard good things and we were not disappointed. We were warmly welcomed from the minute we stepped into the restaurant. The food was excellent and all of the staff incredibly friendly and attentive. Can highly recommend the tandoori chops to start. Amazing flavour and tender meat. We will definitely return for another meal. Thank you

The food was fantastic, we were very happy with everything until we asked to take the remainder home as I was full. We were very disappointed when the waiter came back with empty trays and said he’s to busy and to fill them ourselves ‍️ I was shocked. These guys care about what they are doing. Very good customer service and the best curry I've had in a long time. Having seen standards fall at some of the other local curry houses we were very impressed with the quality of service and esapecially the food which was absolutely perfect.

My husband and I went to Shapla on bank holiday friday - we had booked a table but once we had arrived, I realised I had booked it for the wrong day. The staff at Shapla were amazing and they managed to squeeze us in, despite the restaurant clearly being busy. We were still made to feel very welcome even though it was my own mistake and not theirs. All the food was absolutely delicious so we'll definitely be returning in the future (next time on the right day!).

This is our regular haunt and we absolutely love it. We love it so much that we booked and had dinner on Christmas at this delightful Indian restaurant. We are always made to feel welcome and special by all the staff and the food is always fantastic. It will continue to be my favourite local Indian and I'm sure we will be back visiting again soon .

Very disappointed. Food was bland, the lamb was tough and our nans were very doughy and in our opinion not sufficiently cooked. The keema nan hardly had any meat in it. Expensive for what we had. We will not be visiting again as it has really gone downhill to what it used to be like.

First visit as family newly arrived in Wymondham. Was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Staff very friendly and attentive. Food was plentiful and although a little more expensive then some other places, well worth it. Atmosphere very pleasant. We will definitely be returning here.

5 of us ate in for Father's Day. Friendly and attentive staff, efficient service and very good food - the best curry restaurant in Wymondham by far.

Lovely staff, a bit timid but very polite, and delicious food. The music in the background was at a perfect volume and lively-ness to set an excellent tone and perfect environment. There was wonderful variety in the food options and plenty for vegetarians. Portions were well sized, a bit much for a teen or child but good for an adult, and the food was nice and hot. Great depth of flavours and not too buttery as to cause the ill feeling I often find similar places to cause. Warm hand towels and pallet cleansing mint chocolates given at the end was a nice touch. I much prefer this to India Village from across the road; I will definitely be returning or getting take away!

We have eaten here in the past with good and no so good experiences. So it's hit and miss. However, I ordered a take-away for a Keema Nan, Brinjal Bhaji and a Lamb Rogan Josh and all were excellent. I have to say the lamb was the best I have had in a long while. Perhaps not as tender as I would have liked, but no gristle and very little fat. I would definitely order it again. I love aubergines and the brinjal was fine as was the nan. As it is cheaper to order a take-away, in these hard economic times, it was a treat, but cheaper than eating in.

Really not a great evening. We arrived 10 minutes early where we were told to wait a few minutes to be seated which was absolutely fine. We were booked for 8:30 and didn’t sit down until 8:45 due to tables being full. We are a younger couple, an older couple came in who also booked and they were sat straight down. The food was very dry and the waiters were very moody. Not a good experience and do not recommend to anyone.

We wanted a place to go out to eat with three generations of us to celebrate Christmas and decided to go to the Shapla. As soon as we walked in, we were made to feel really welcome and shown to our table. With the poppadoms came all the usual condiments plus some more unusual ones- the restaurant’s own apple chutney was delicious. We all had starters - the chicken purée was good but the shingalas were amazing! The mains were not just delicious but huge and still some of us managed to squeeze in pudding! I love that they offered us all a drink on the house too after we had eaten. The food was great but the service was fantastic. Also, the pace the food was served at was good too- not too fast, not too slow. All in all, highly recommend!

I booked a table on dec 3rd at 7pm ,waited 30 mins for poppadums and a drink then waited about another 30 mins before someone came to take our orer for our mains then waited another 30 mins b4 the manager came over and apologised for them being busy promised us a drink never turned up then the waitress came along about 15mins later and served us so after nearly 2 hours we had been served 6 poopadums and a few rounds of drinks so i asked for the bill in what we had and left I i was very disappointed and embarresed as we had invited friends,i can appreciate it was a busy time of the day but i left there thinking of not returning again and going elewhere in the future regards steve

Wymondham and Attleborough both offer great Indian food..we love both restaurants when we are in the area

I visited during a power cut. The owner was honest and accommodating. He told us that there was no power, food would be slow out of the kitchen and that dinner would be eaten by candlelight. If anything this added to the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner although some items are a little on the pricey side (the rice). Nothing wrong with the portion sizes, we finished everything but we were absolutely stuffed. Service was great too. There aren't many restaurants in the area, they are mostly pubs serving food but this is one of the better ones. An unpretentious and straight forward Indian restaurant.

A fantastic meal with excellent service. We ate out as a family on holiday. I had seen recommendations online and also in our accommodation visitors book. The food was delicious and service great. I would recommend booking as it was busy, even on a Wednesday evening. I managed a same day booking.

Myself am an old friend have been visiting this restaurant every month or so for the last 2-3 years for a catch up, a good chat, and some good food. This restaurant has never disappointed us, and we are veterans of many Indian meals over the last 40 odd years, and also have visited India three times. It is extremely well run, the owner and staff immediately make you feel welcome, and the service is the right balance of attentiveness without being overbearing. We visited on Friday 31st of July for the first time since reopening after the COVID-19 closures, and couldn’t wait to enjoy the excellent food again. The COVID-19 precautions they have in place seem spot on, good spacing (they have obviously removed quite a few of their tables), plenty of sanitiser, staff well schooled with masks/gloves etc, but without the precautions spoiling the experience in any way. The food didn’t disappoint and was as delicious and fresh tasting as ever, with the owner overseeing everything personally with his usual great warmth and humour.This place is a gem, I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Went to collect food tonight following the great first visit we had a couple of months ago and again nothing disappointed! I had booked a meal for my 50th birthday with 7 other friends. We arrived at the restaurant in good time, only to be told that by confirmed 8pm reservation was actually for 9pm -oh dear. Never mind, we agreed the time and decided to have a drink at the nearby pub.Upon returning to the restaurant we were shown to a table. About 15 minutes later the waitress approached us claiming we didn't have a booking. This was going well, and we all looked at each other and laughed, however someone else then came and took our order.This was delayed, eventually the food arrived. This was generally OK, however having lived and worked in the Midlands, the curries are no comparison and can only be classed as 'fair' here.A shambolic performance, and the manager is very aggressive and dismissive in his manner - I don't know how they maintain their custom, and will never go back.The story doesn't end here... on the next night I received a call on my mobile, it was the restaurant, asking if we were still coming for our meal as we were 20 minutes late. I politely advise we came last night as arranged, and as per their diary.Wow !

We used to be big fans of Shapla but no more! The last few visits have got progressively worse. The last visit was the worst, we turned up for our booking to be told they has made a mistake and we were booked at 9 not 8pm, we returned at 9 to be told we didn’t have a booking. From that point we waited 20 mins for our drink order to be taken, after 35 minutes we had to ask for our mains order to be taken. If it hadn’t been so late we’d have left for elsewhere.The staff are rude, the service poor and other than a few nice dishes on the specials menu, the food is increasingly bland. Needless to say we won’t be returning.

First time here for ten years,knew when my meal came out it did'nt look like my usuel Madras look.I do know that a lot of Indian resterants ar different and I except that but getting near the end of my meal I came out with a long hairr.Told the Manager but no word of apoligie.Been eating currys for over 50 years so I know what I am takeing about.

Went to Shapla with a group friends for a catch up. On entering we were met by a team of friendly staff who sat us down very quickly. Service was good considering it was a Saturday night, all the staff were very attentive and maintained this throughout the meal. I chose the chicken tikka masala for my main which was cooked to perfection. Best tandoori restaurant Iv Ever had the pleasure to eat in. We received a very warm welcome and were quickly served with drinks and fresh poppadoms. The food was hot, fresh and good portion size. Service with a smile too 😀 We eat here quite regularly and are never disappointed.

What an embarrassment this place is. The cheapest possible ingredients with the minimum of effort. No discernible flavour and the paratha bread is just being used as a frisbee toy for the dog. Even he won’t eat it. Lovely little place in a lovely little town, but here the food news ends. Avoid.

We were a party of six visiting for Fathers Day . On entering we were crammed into a small space where there was really only room for a table for two. Those sitting on the furthest end had to duck to get in and slide across three very ripped chairs ( plucking my dress). On looking around the room the plastic covering on all the chairs was ripped and overall appearance was tatty and in bad need of decorating.

Went out for my friends birthday drinks and he decided we should all go for a Indian meal on a Saturday, there was 6 of us. I was a bit apprehensive as have had a few bad meals here in the past, but was told it had been taken over in the last year. My friends were right it was the best Indian ive had, I had the chef special balti, delicious. We all had something different and no complaints. I was impressed that the owner/chef came over to ask if all was ok and had a little chat. The price for all of us including drinks was so reasonable for a very big food baby!! as i say. Would recommend this place any day.

We started with poppadums and chutneys. Poppadums were stale - they should have been sent back, but we didn't want to start on a bad note.

We ate here whilst spending a few days in Norfolk. We had not booked but were welcomed and seated. Our drinks arrived promptly and we were given time to order. Our starters were piping hot and very tasty. Both our main courses were excellent and we both really enjoyed them. The staff were really friendly and looked clean and smart. Sadly don’t live local but if we did we would visit again in a heartbeat.

We have been to the Shapla on a few occasions and not been disappointed. The food is flavoursome service is pleasant and friendly . We have tried all the Indian restaurants in the Town and this by far the best .

Typical Indian restaurant fayre, although an Achaar really should have a tiny bit of lime in it. Service was exceptionally slow, rude and unnecessarily aggressive. Don't think we'll be back.

I've reviewed this place before, but Juber has really made some great changes recently. He has created a specials board of Bangladeshi street food - my favourite is the dahl bhuna which is slightly thicker than a tarka dahl and has a wonderful kick.

We have been going to another Indian for a long time, however, this is near to us so we have given it a try quite a few times which has prompted me to write this review.

Been going to this restaurant for 28 years and lately under new ownership things are changing. Took the family for a celebration meal and owner greeted us, as usual with welcoming greetings.Also introduced us to new elements on the menu which we tried and they were fantastic.Thoroughly recommend this place if you like well cooked spicy food.

I have popped in here a few times now, on work related matters, and have eaten each time. These have always been ‘off-peak’, midweek or lunchtime. The food has always been very good. Yesterday I had a house speciality ‘Naga Tikka Lamb’. This was indeed pretty hot without being silly, and packed with flavour, best Indian dish I’ve had in a while. My partner was happy with her chicken passanda. We did order some sides, which were all good....but to be honest the mains and rice were generous enough not to need extras. The staff and management appear to be working hard. No doubt I will visit again.

Ordered a takeaway for 4. The order was ready in a suitable amount of time and was a good temperature when we got home. The portion sizes were good, but the taste was- well there wasn’t any taste! Quite bland and I’m certain it was full of food colouring. Don’t think we’ll be going here again.

The food at Shapla is good but the service is unnecessarily slow, rude and abrupt so I will not be patronising this Indian restaurant again! They also seem to prioitise their takeaway service at the expense to the customers they have already got through the door!

Just another one of those achingly average Indian restaurants serving up mediocre food to an audience with limited dining choices. I wish I could be more positive but dinner was as forgettable as they come. The onion bhajees were dense and tasteless, the keema nan was bland. Both our curry choices were.... ok.... yeah.... ok.... nothing special.... Get in the car - drive to Norwich, there are better choices available. But... If you're drunk, and not too fussy, after a Wymondham pub crawl, I guess the Shapla will do... Won't be bothering to return

Went there for dinner last night and after taking our order, we waited nearly an hour! Asked the waiter where our food was, he shrugged and walked the other way and went to serve another table. A few minutes later we were told it will be 5 minutes. The final straw was when the table next to us were given their starters and had only been there 15 mins. We got up to go and was told it coming now.. but was fed up by then. Shame as it looked a nice place.

Best Indian in wymondham been several times had takeaways too lovely meat cooked perfect full of flavour would highly recommend.

We have eaten in this restaurant many times as well as using their takeaway services and have never found any reason to complain. The food is always well cooked and tasty. The staff have always been friendly and attentive. It is a great place to eat.

Our party of four had a truly memorable meal last night (1st February 2018) at the Shapla in Wymondham.

Chicken always properly marinated ,and cooked perfectly tender ,as good as you can possibly get .and every dish has its own unique taste . This Is the REAL DEAL ...😀😀😀😀😋😍

Both my partner and I have been to the Shapla several times and every time its amazing! Superb staff, so friendly and welcoming! Food, quality and portions just awesome! We took my parents for dinner here on a Sunday night and they said it was the best they ever tasted too!

Food outstanding, spices beautifully balanced and quality of produce superb. Service highly attentive, respectful and courteous. So much enjoyed, we visited twice during our one week stay in the area (7-14 August). Clean, welcoming and highly professional. We have no problem recommending this restaurant.

We love the Shapla, lovely food, helpful friendly staff. Peshwari naan are a particular favourite of mine and they are excellent here.

To start with we found something in the mango chutney and on fishing it out with a spoon it turmes put to be an old mushy piece of the previous customer's poppadum. Yuk!!! If that wasnt bad enough i then found a long black hair in my prawn starter. I wanted to complain and walk out but i thought ok one more chance. When our curries came the chicken wasnt even hot inside and the sauce was completely tasteless along with the nann bread that was so dry we couldnt swallow it. Paid over £40 for this meal. Left feeling sick and will never be returning again.

Came here as had been recommended by colleagues. There was 7 of us, 5 of us had starters which the waiter got 2 wrong. That was dealt with perfectly and we were happy. The mains were ok, not amazing. Was expecting a little bit more flavour and something a bit more special. The fish curry was very spicy, a lot spicier than expected. The wait for the mains was also extremely long. Whilst we waited another table left as they were fed up of waiting...
