Shangri-La in Guildford

We decided to give this place another try but sadly regretted it. Arriving you are immediately greeted by a rude lady shouting “only cash only cash” Within a minute before you have had a chance to look at the menu, she then shouts “ what do you want? What you want”? There are never any pleases or thank you a thoroughly vile person . The food is okay, but not special or worth the awful experience .

I’ve never been to a place where the lady taking the order was so rude, luckily I didn’t have to speak to her as my friend did otherwise I’d have given her a piece of mind. The food was very poor and i certainly won’t be going there again

I've never been there or heard of the place but they spam called me for no reason today, tried calling back asking why but no one picked up

For my take-away Chinese food I have used the Shangri-La off and on for many years, and have found the dishes to vary quite a lot in quality. This time it was not quite so good and so I will try elsewhere. The attitude of the lady serving behind the counter is also sometimes a little difficult to accept.

Very rude. Woman on the phone says hang on we are very busy, then leaves you hanging. Cut me off twice. Can't comment on the food, still waiting. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of Won't give my money to them again.

the worst Chinese takeaway we have ever experienced, the lady at the desk was so rude and unpleasant, we couldn’t believe the way she spoke to not only us but other customers….. avoid this place unless you like terrible service and very rude customer service

Not sure why people keep saying that the lady here is rude. She is absolutely lovely and makes me laugh. As the old saying goes - if everyone around you appears rude, maybe it's you :) Food has always been great, used several Chinese takeaways around Guildford but always come back to this one. Nice food, good prices, quick service, funny lady. Treat people with respect and you will get it back. Want more proof - try ordering from here on a Friday or Saturday night - it is PACKED OUT. Say no more.

Whatever you do, do not forget your number! The food is actually pretty decent, but to say the woman behind the counter is ‘animated’ would be kind. Don’t move, don’t say anything & for god sake know what your ordering.

The restaurant has recently set up an online service which gives you the option to pay by card or cash, then when I collected my order, the owner told several customers to pay by card next time, don’t give the option to pay cash! Also a man placed an order in person, she put it through the till, he then asked for something extra. She said why didn’t you tell me in the first place, then gave him an angry look. Literally no idea about customer service or how to maintain a customer base. Most people in Guildford are so lovely they don’t take her on. Food is average Chinese food. It’s success is based on location alone.

Ordered online. Then when to pick it up but the order hadn’t come through. These things happen so just bad luck. However, the lady behind the counter became aggressive towards me and keeping blaming me. Finally calmed her down and she apologised and then took my order again with pen and paper and asked me to pop back. When I came back she started telling me that they had double checked website and my order had definitely not come through. She had waited to tell me that rather than asking her team to start the pen and paper order. So still no food. She then asked them to start cooking and asked me to pay at that point. I mentioned I would pay when the food actually turned up after the previous two failures and she became aggressive again. I cancelled the order and walked out. It’s not the first time I’ve had issues with her. Awful customer service. Someone else there needs to look after customers. I’m never going in again.

Awful on line delivery service,called three times to check on delivery.Ended up cancelling and using Tong Tong . Lady at takeaway is rude and full of lame excuses .Promising our meal is on it's way and never happened

This takeaway has been our go-to for many, many years. Unfortunately, our last meal was just that…our last one from this place. What on earth has happened to it. I ordered special fried soft noodles which always used to be packed full of flavour, nice slices of tender chicken, tasty pork cubes and several shrimp, and worth the money. It now contain tasteless noodles, about a dozen “julienne” strips of chicken, two tiny pieces pieces of pork and absolutely no shrimp whatsoever. It was padded out with a whole lot of onion, too. It was awful and ended up in the bin. Had I not travelled about 5 miles to the place, I would have gone back and dumped it on the counter. Also, the decor is dismal and it boasts an open kitchen….really? Sadly, after a long, long time, I shall have to take my business elsewhere. Also, curiously, this establishment is under a different name on the website.

This was an anniversary treat, we have have been customers for over 5 years but due to covid not eaten takeaway recently. The food was all cold, the children's shredded beef fell out of the container like a brick it was welded together. I had lemon chicken, there was hardly a shred of chicken in it, just thick clumps of RAW batter inside. It was soggy and disgusting. The lemon sauce was just pure lemon juice and water, no consistency to it what so ever. Totally inedible and a waste of our hard earned money. Never again will we eat here. What a shame as its our local takeaway.

Called/ordered my food, 20 min journey later, i Was told the order wasn’t placed and I must’ve called someone else!??!! ! After Showing the rude lady on the front of house my call log (51 seconds long), there was No apology, just shrugged shoulders. To top it, I was then told its a 40 minute wait??? No help/rectification or politeness just an insulting attitude. Other people Also walking out because of different orders/mix ups… Scummy/rude & vulgar attitude towards the customers!! Oh and it’s cash only………. 🤔

Great food with reasonable price! Nice and super clean open kitchen had selection of crispy duck, chilli beef, squid with chilli, lemon chicken, beef with black bean sauce , hong kong style chicken, mushroom rice, prawn crackers, beef chow mein was tasty and the service was great. Location is great for pick up

As soon as we opened the door, the lady looked angry. We were very polite and asked for our order, she walked away and then shouted waving her arms in anger, for no reason. Glared as I was waiting. However, credit to the chefs because the food was amazing 😍

For a Chinese take-away I have found the quality of food to be very good and the lady in the shop is quite a character. All-in-all, tasty food at a good price.

Orribile. Ho atteso 45 minuti un filetto che poi è arrivato troppo cotto. Naturalmente l'ho rifiutato. Il secondo tentativo ho atteso 15 minuti ma purtroppo di nuovo troppo cotto, lo champagne nel frattempo era decisamente andato fuori temperatura. Cosa si è salvato di questa disastrosa serata?? Francesco il cameriere di sala che mi ha convinto a non litigare con il manager.

I have always used another local Chinese takeaway but it's closed on a Tuesday so on a recommendation tried this once tonight. The lady was friendly when I placed my order for a specific time, it was ready on time. My son has a nut allergy and they were helpful with their advice.The prices were reasonable, the food delicious for the price. Only drawbacks are no delivery and cash only. We will definitely eat here again!

Very disappointed! We have used this Chinese takeaway many times as it is our local one and every time they have got something on our order wrong or forgotten a dish. The lady on the desk is very rude with no reason at all. When we visited tonight to get a takeaway (me, my partner and my daughter) she was very particular about where we Stood and when we turned the menu over to look at the dishes on the back she started throwing her hands around. They STILL only accept cash so we ordered and then went to the cash point next door. When we return I went to her to pay. She then shouted in my face “PAY LATER” she then 5 minutes later shouted the price at me to pay. She gave me our food and we went home. Open up the bag with our food In and the rice was missing. I called them to explain to which she was laughing down the phone at me saying she works to quickly and forget! Awful customer service especially as we had paid for that dish and was not going back. No apology she thought it was funny! Will not be returning. Even my 11 year daughter realised she was so rude and asked why?

Having used Shangri-la for several years now, I can honestly say that the food is of a very good quality and always hot. Varied menu choices, but as yet the only accept cash for orders.

I often eat here because it's my local Chinese take away and I am never dissapointed! The food is really tasty and fresh and the menu has lots to offer whether you're a novice or a seasoned foodie, there is something for everyone. The hostess is very funny and may seem abrupt, however, she is genuine and doing her best to serve all her customers and is always pleased to see her customers, old and new. One of the best Chinese I've eaten in a very long time and I thoroughly recommend it.

Went here on Sunday evening, cash only! Food was ready very quick and is a fair price, it's not the best I have ever eaten but generally not bad at all! Still nice and hot when I got home.

Generally pretty moderate food at a reasonable price, if you ever find it. Take cash, no card payment.

The only takeaway I use for Chinese - nice size portions and very tasty. Great set meal choice. Really friendly staff.

Amigos sugirieron que visite su local china mientras estábamos en Guildford durante la semana y todo lo que puedo decir es deliciosa! Carne de pato crujiente con chili y es un deber! El personal era muy amable y el servicio era rápido! Sin duda volveremos aquí la próxima vez que estemos en la ciudad!

He usado este para llevar varias veces de conveniencia, ya que es local. No es raro para ellos para conseguir la orden equivocada. A veces, esto le llevará a estar fuera del bolsillo y prometen hacer la próxima vez que visite. Nunca los probé en este - cómo recuerdan el error no tengo ni idea.

we ordered several dishes for take out, non were very good, ordered Singapore vermachelli got fat noodles and the ribs supposed to be in a barbecue sauce, the sauce was so thick it would run out of the container if you held it up side down all in all a waste of £21.00

Un lugar que he utilizado en casi 7 años! Me dijeron que apresurarme en orden porque estaba a 20 minutos hasta que cerca un martes y no en el menú me lo diga! Les dije lo disopointed estaba y cuánto tiempo hemos utilizado para luego no reciben el dinero como lo estaban cerrando! Los ladrones!!! Normas comerciales vienen a la mente!

Este es un lugar único. Pedí un un viernes por la noche. La comida estaba lista muy rápido, lo que puede ser visto como una ventaja o un inconveniente dependiendo de las circunstancias. He pedido un curry verde tailandés. La textura del pollo sabía algo entre pollo y pescado. Siento decirlo, pero el pollo tenía una textura ligeramente viscosa. La salsa era también muy finas. El resto de la comida era satisfactorio; arroz, cerdo hervida (sin duda la helada variedad siempre se puede llegar desde sus ultramarinos orientales locales). Los precios están bien, pero la compensación es la falta de calidad.

I have had takeaways from here many times and have never been disappointed. Food is always quick, hot and tasty. I particularly enjoy the smoked shredded chicken which I have had as a quick lunch in a hurry on more than one occasion.
