Cute cafe, with gorgeous looking cakes. Very crowded when we went in and waited a long time for service and our order - soup and a sandwich! Might be better to visit in the week rather than on a Sunday afternoon.

Sweet girl serving us. Sausage and bacon baps horrid. Nobody told us we would get one wholemeal bap, and one seeded,! We did assume two white would arrive. Bacon fatty not well cooked.Avacado and eggs on toast was poorly presented, but edable. Unsure why big chunks of cold tomato were in it. Brought a brownie and a carrot cake slice home with us. All the cakes and brownies look absolutely amazing. Tasted awfull, actually went in the bin. Utterly Tastless. Will not go back £40 down the drain.

I've been here twice. The first time wasn't great, but as anyone can have a bad day we gave them the benefit of the doubt and tried again. I wish we hadn't. On our first visit the service was slow. We felt like an inconvenience - an unwelcome distraction from scrolling on their phones. I had a chocolate orange brownie, which looked delicious, but rather unexpectedly it was not just chocolate orange, but also rum and raisin. It was very boozy, which some may well like, but it wasn't to my taste and I couldn't eat it. In my opinion it not great to serve up an alcoholic dessert with no indication, as many people don't drink or avoid alcohol for any number of reasons. On our second visit the service was slower than before, yet still staff had time to keep checking their phones. This time I had a berry chocolate cake, which looked very nice, but again I couldn't finish it because this time I found mould on the raspberries - something I only noticed halfway through eating the cake. Very unimpressed. We raised this with staff and the answer we received was a very indifferent 'oh' - and they had the nerve to still charge us for the mouldy cake! It's a shame as the cafe looks very nice from the exterior, but needless to say we won't be returning.

This place is 5 stars all day long, great service and really good breakfast. Come out full, happy and wanting to visit again.

Been here a couple of times and this time just like the other times didn’t fail to impress. The decor is fun and funky but also very comfortable and homely. Greeted with a smile and the service is great very helpful attentive without being annoying just the right balance. Today we had toasted ciabattas. One tune and sweetcorn melt and one roasted veg and Brie. Stuffed full of very tasty filled and lovely and hot freshly prepared served with some salad and crisps just perfect. Bought some goodies to take home sausage roll, pork pie, and a scotch egg oh and two rather large portions of 3 tiered Oreo cookie chocolate cake can’t wait to try it all over next few days. Will certainly be back. Thank you for running such place xox

Delicious food, lovely staff and reasonably priced!

We popped in here for a cup of tea and decided to have something to eat. I wish we hadn't we had a pot of tea for two nice big pot with two small cups. We waited quite a while for the tea and over half an hour for the food. We both had bubble & squeak with two poached eggs. The only way my husband could eat it was to smother it in brown sauce. I could only manage the eggs. The bubble and squeak were absolutely disgusting. It tasted like it had been cooked in a dirty frying pan. I did think about complaining but decided to pay the bill and get out of there. It wasn't exactly cheap either the bill came to £22.50.

Cosy cafe, open at 0830 in winter, as I sought sanctuary. Great coffee and a nice toasted tea cake, all for just over a fiver. Friendly service too. Much appreciated, on a chilly morning, feeling kind of alienated out on the street.

Well worth the 5 star review. Dog friendly. Lovely decor and ambience. The food was scrummy snd portions extremely generous. Coffee spot on. Can’t fault this place and shall definitely return again and again. Well done Shane - your cafe is spot on!

Lovely little cafe with possibly the best brownie I’ve ever had. Only thing that was disappointing was the vegan sausage roll lacked any “sausage” and was more like an onion roll. Would happily come back!

Shane's Kitchen is a not-so-hidden gem at the heart of Rottingdean, and is *ABSOLUTELY* worth the stop if you're passing through town! 💞 The menu is extensive and offers a good deal of variety, the food is freshly made and provide a premium selection of flavours, the prices are reasonable, and the staff are some of the friendliest you'll meet! If the Scottish chef is around, introduce yourself (if he doesn't first), because he is a genuine ray of sunshine on a cloudy day! ☀️ Not only can he great for conversation, but he has some solid tips on where to find the best food in Brighton and the surrounding towns! I cannot recommend the café more highly, and it's earned every compliment you read here! DEFINITELY take the time to drop in and treat yourself when you're in the area! ▬▬▬ RECOMMENDATIONS ▬▬▬ Here are a few strong recommendations from my visit: ► The MEAT PIE is "one of the best in England" (a glowing review by my dad) and presented with an amazing selection of sides. ► The CAKES are delicious and very, very good (a glowing review by my mom, who enjoyed her breakfast very much). ► The BACON SANDWICH uses some of the best bacon around and was delicious!

We all had post boxing day cabin fever so took a bus trip into Rottingdean without a plan. Shane's Kitchen was the first cafe open and we are so glad that fate sent us here, from the fabulous decor to the fantastic service with festive cakes to die for, we just had the best time! Barry was so lovely to us and made our experience and everyone arounds so special! This will definitely our new spot in 2024!

Even though I don’t live locally any more, I always ensure I’ve been to Shane’s on every visit. Shane and Barry are exceptional hosts/chefs who always make you feel welcome and cook exquisite food. I have frequently heard other customers say, ‘Oh, it’s like The Ivy!” And they’re right. They’ve recently been awarded 5* and that’s no great surprise.

Second visit and again disappointed! Went on my own on the Thursday at 4pm and had chicken soup which had a strange taste to it - not chicken taste at all ? Then today Saturday 2pm popped in with my with for tea and scones . They gave us what tasted like margarine at first to spread on the scones and when we mentioned this they replaced the small dish with what we thought was butter - but again it didn’t taste right ? When we asked what it was they said it was butter -clover butter ?? lol Clover butter tastes nothing like proper butter! No apologies etc ! If you are going to have scones it has to be with proper real butter!! Will not be going there again !

Nice tea, chipped crockery, mouldy cake. Cooked food looked better from other tables. The decor is fun even if it's a bit of a squeeze getting in.

Everybody was very satisfied with their meal. Everybody tried something different. All the food was good. The table service was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had walked from Brighton on the undercliff walk. The day was sunny and we enjoyed being together and our meals at Shane's kitchen. The place was quaint and comfortable. Fantastic café, great food and always welcoming

I have always loved shanes BUT sadly, the quality and quantity is dropping every time i visit! I visited on a Wednesday and ordered cream tea and coffee cake. The slice given was so so small! I have always loved how the serving size was always worth the money, but recently it has been v poor. It was a veryy thin slice of cake. The table we sat on was very dirty. The cream tea did not mention that there would be scottish scones. Those were good but the menu should mention as I had something else in mind. Over all, by each visit, cakes are becoming not so good.

Had a bacon sandwich ,plenty of bacon with thick slices of brown bread.

Bad food and bad coffee. And don’t bother complaining about it because they don’t care and they make that very clear. The bloke has a “that’s just how I do it” attitude. I don’t think they know what customer service is or how to speak to people. They have multiple “humorous” signs up around the place about how they like to give attitude to customers, so I suppose that’s indicative of how they will talk to you. The tables were all sticky and the music was too loud. I would recommend going to Costa, Elate, or Sea Spray cafe nearby for better food, coffee and service.

The server was impolite Latte was not good in taste The biggest disappointment was when we asked for a bill we were given half written ( manually scribbled) note which was incomplete and were denied of complete bill with the reason “thats how it is!” “What so you mean by a bill? “ One needs to be mindful before paying the bill here.

We seem to have been unfortunate encountering 2 of my pet hates: 1. stale croissants apparently jollied up in the microwave 2. Staff member fondling customer’s small dog and then serving food to another table. Ew.

Really, do Walk on by! The only decent thing about todays lunch was the music, thanks Dionne Warwick. Salad stale and slimy, sandwich bland....more bread than anything else.Even the jacket potato was unappetising. How can you fail with a jacket potato?? Waiting staff were pleasant if somewhat forgetful, and slimy salad barely elicited a shamed "sorry". Won't be back, not even for the music....

For the first time in my life I actually walked out of this place leaving my food (paid for). Whilst the food itself was ok (although the salad was slimy) the place is so small you can barely navigate to the toilet between seats and tables. Added to this they were allowing people to wait for tables inside the cafe making it even more crowded and then the final straw was allowing the family on the table next to us to bring in a dog which proceeded to constantly sniff at our food - and I mean nose on our table!! Terrible experience and not a place I shall visit again.

I stepped foot in to the café and was welcomed immediately by genuine authentic staff that led me to a table. It’s all flow, fun and authenticity in here which is reflected on the delicious food that they graciously produce. I can’t wait to return very soon with friends & family. Superb value for money.

Great transformation since they extended into next door. Was always a great cafe now its great++. Shane's cakes are world famous! Don't count the calories just enjoy a treat. Our favourite is avocado & poached eggs on toast. Human & Dog friendly.

Menu was brilliant. And food was amazing. We will definitely be making this our regular place. New decor and extension has turned this into a great meeting place. We cannot praise this place enough. well done.

A group of 7 of us including kids dined here Saturday night. Staff were very helpful with out special dietary needs. Food was good, staff friendly, could of done with a bit more space between tables otherwise all good.

The food is sadly average. Order the jalapeno cheese bread and you get a different each time. Sometimes there is cheese on top, sometimes there isn't, sometimes it's just a sprinkle, sometimes they bake in to the bread. It's all a bit of a mess. Staff are great and they do an alright selection of drinks. The food isn't bad, it's just not ever the same.

Came in the other week with a friend, was looking to have a cheese toastie with a piece of cake after, but spotted a dead fly on the counter next to the cakes, cookies and other foods. This made me feel quite disturbed so we decided to leave.

We had a lovely visit and spent a couple of hours drinking coffee, chatting and eating delicious homemade cakes. My only complaint is because I have sensory sensitivities - I found the decor a little busy and the music a little loud, but we were made to feel very welcome from the minute we stepped in the door and that really helped me to relax. We learned that the cafe will soon be closing for renovation, it will be expanding and the decor made more calming so we are very excited to return in the new year to check that out. There are various vegan and gluten-free options, good use of space to allow the place to feel cosy but not cramped, all in all lots to love and we will definitely be coming back.
