Service was slow and not friendly. Had to ask for water twice.

Cake here was Okay 👍 but coffee was Amazing ☕️

Quite a busy place on a Saturday afternoon. Took a long time before staff took the order and then didn't bring the water that was requested. Very noisy and difficult to have a proper conversation. Lovely looking place though and the coffee was good. Staff looked very busy but still friendly.

Served by Evie today and was blown away by her lovely attitude and her desire to go above and beyond. She is a star! ⭐

Was lucky to get a table at this lovely place. Arrived around midday on a Wednesday, service was quick and friendly. We both had the small breakfast with black pudding. Quality of food was very good. It's a very popular eatery. Fully recommend this place.

Such a shame. Good location, but sadly lacking everywhere else. Inedible cake, forgettable coffee and indifferent service.. . Just meh!

Popped in here for coffee and cake and we were not disappointed. They have a variety of cakes/treats, half of which were vegan and a couple were gluten free. Both coffee and cake were delicious and great service too. Also dog friendly :)

I came to Kooks for the first time to have somewhere to study with good coffee, and I’ve found the perfect place! Francesco and Becky were both so lovely and professional, they made me feel at home and made sure I had everything I needed. The coffee was amazing and I will definitely be back soon, thank you so much for your hospitality!

We had an hour for our lunch. We got seated quicklyish, though there is a sign ‚wait to be seated’ it seemed to be a bother for the waiters to actually do that. After waiting for the waiter who seated us to bring menus and take our order, my partner went to the bar to ask if its table service and then again wait for someone to actually come and take out order. Once ordered we were not told there is a considerable wait for the food. 5mins later the waitress came over to say what I have picked from the menu is not served anymore (?)I’ve chosen sth else and our wait began. Our drinks came and other peoples food came and we kept waiting. Tbh could see other customers treated the same taking ages to take orders, deliver them and even bring the bill and it wasn't that busy! Could see waiters chatting around and what not. 50min later our food arrives. I had HLT which was nothing special, i wish i have been asked my preference for the bread. My partner had chicken burger- it was cold and somewhat burned, we had side of chips, ordered large came small. We had to eat fast as were running late by this point. Finished food, when straight to the counter to pay to make it faster, the waiter there wanted someone else to deal with our payment and we had to say we are late can we just please pay. And now the cherry on top, the bill was £47 seemed steep but as we were late we paid and left only to realise later that we must have paid for the salad i didn't have and then my second option added on top. Anyway mediocre food, very poor service and ended up being quite pricey. Defo do not recommend

Went for lunch with a friend and we both had Eggs Benedict which was made by Matt. It was absolutely delicious 🤤. We also had a glass of prosecco and shared a slice of biscoff cake. Has to rate as one of the best lunches we have had. We will be back!

Amazing brunch place- so many great options on the menu! Service was great and assisted vey kindly when we made changes to our reservation! All food and drinks were delicious

I came here for brunch as a party of 2. We were greeted well and seated quickly. we instantly ordered our drinks and after almost half an hour they arrived. If I am honest, both drinks were really really nice, no faults there. After our drinks were delivered, when we were then allowed to order our food. After ordering, we had to wait the best part of an hour before our granola and full English arrived. Upon arrival, I realised the specific food I didn’t ask for on my breakfast was ignored. The granola was hard and extremely dry (could have been because we had finished our drinks before the food arrive and we were not given the opportunity to order any more) and the full English looked and tasted as if it has been left on the side for the full duration of the wait time. Never normally one to leave a negative review but I think the other reviews of this place are deceiving and so I thought I should share my experience.

Disappointing. We had the BLT sandwich and the Chicken and avocado sandwich. On both the granary bread was dry and not fresh. Both meals were tasty though Our server didn’t really seem to want to be there. Not friendly and just going through the mortions. We were charged a 10% optional service fee but only realised this after leaving as we had not been presented with a bill but just a number for each of us to pay for a three way split. Only a small thing but we would not have paid the service given a choice as our server did not make us feel welcome.

We came in for breakfast as the menu looked interesting, and it wasn't busy. They told us it was table service and to sit down and they would bring us menus. So we got a table and sat down and waited, and waited. We sat for 6 or 7 minutes and a menu never came. Another couple came in after us and they got a menu. It wasn't busy by any means. We could have got up and asked for a menu, but it's not a good sign. If they can't be bothered then neither can we, so we left. They won't get a second chance. After hearing they scored 0 for hygeine and had a dirty kitchen with fruit fly infestation i'm glad they didn't serve us.

So happy to support local business and not Nero or Costa- walk up the lanes a bit further and find this gem. Super fresh food - had a small issue as I can’t eat onion and it had been added to my dish and this was remedied quickly and without it seeming an absolute pain - fabulous food, service and super clean everywhere- very popular with good reason 🙌

Fantastic service from the moment we walked in until we left. We are local residents and we have to say this was the best breakfast in Brighton. Food was exceptional and great to wash that down with beer and mimosa!

Had a delicious Salted Caramel Latte and felt a bit bad for stirring the cute bear Carly creamed over it. Had also a very nice slice of ginger cake that fixed my sugar cravings!

Great red velvet cake and Carly did a great job with the tasty coffee. She made a cute bear with the foam.

We just had our running club christmas party at Kooks and wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone, especially Amy and Becky and the chefs, for making it an incredible evening. The food was delicious and plentiful, the drinks were tasty, and it's a super cute venue! I'd definitely recommend it for a private party. Thanks again! :)

So disappointed with lunch at Kooks. Service was awful. Took 3 times of asking before they took our order, when the food arrived it was luke warm. When we asked for sauces it seemed a real inconvenience and they had the cheek to add 10% service charge to the bill. It’s such a shame as it used to be great but it’s really gone down hill

Came in for a cute brunch for 2 on a busy Saturday, Becky hosted us and was lovely, she served us some yummy hot drinks. My partner and I were very happy with our food- especially the eggs benedict, the ham was amazing and no just little slices! with the atmosphere, drinks and food all being exceptional we will be back ❤

Today we discovered this lovely place, big Brighton vibes! Becky was brilliant, she made my coffee. Perfect temperature and velvety foam 😍 My eggs royale were soooo good and looked beautiful! All the staff was smiley and welcoming. Every request we asked for was well accomadated, no hassle at all which was lovley! I'll be back very soon with more friends ❤️

The service we received here was poor. Having been told to take a seat the staff proceeded to ignore us and took a long time to come and take our order. Other customers came in after us, they had tables cleared for them and still had their order taken before us whilst we were just left sitting there waiting, when I did ask the waitress about taking our order she just said she would be back but never bothered to return, our order eventually being taken by another but only after he had taken the order of yet another customer who had been seated after us! The other customers had ordered, received their food and eaten it before we were even brought the two glasses of wine we eventually ordered. Even our own food order came at least 10 minutes before our drinks. They weren’t even busy. No apology for the slow service either, what should have been a nice break on a busy shopping day was sadly disappointing!

Used to be good. waited 55 min (no warning) for a sandwich that wasn’t toasted and with cold Hallumi. Pancakes were a joke, to call this american is ridiculous. 5 blueberries justified it to be called blueberry pancakes. such a little portion that would have left our toddler hungry. menu changed unfortunately, you get way less for your money (they charged ciabatta for white toast etc.). this place used to be good. also communication or an apology would have been great.

Polly and Kaija provided us with a magic afternoon tea with everything we asked for: delicious blueberry and lemon cake cut into half to share with two plates and forks as your cake portions are so generous and we elderlies have smaller stomachs! Really interesting and tasty real lemon and root ginger tea– not had before. Very friendly bright service and didn't have to wait long for anything. Thanks a lot - will be back.. Fiona

We had some american pancakes and some dirty fries. It was delicious! And The atmosphere was immaculate. We also loved that they played taylor Swift. The staff was friendly and amazing. Thanks to kaita and Polly for that!!

El servicio es peor que pésimo. Pedimos un te y algo para comer. El te lo trajeron en seguida, pero 45 minutos después seguíamos esperando la comida. Les dijimos que trajeran la cuenta de los tes, que ya no queríamos la comida, que nos íbamos a comer a otro sitio y todavía tuvimos que esperar ¡15 MINUTOS ! a que se dignaran cobrarnos los tes. No volveré nunca

The food was absolutely delicious, and the staff were lovely and friendly a special shout out to Carly who served us twice in two days!

Waited 50 minutes for food, had to ask what was the delay. Told ran out pancakes on ond of our orders, and kitchen under prepped. Two courses arrived, 10 minutes later other courses. Some of food being hanging around a while. Did get drinks free but had to ask. These things happen in a business I know, but lack of communication to customers was very poor and no offer to compensate but did a little when asked. Shame as we don't go out as a family much to eat, so this was a bit of a treat, and so felt pretty let down.

Absolutely awful lunch experience. Filthy tables and dirty toilets with broken seat on arrival which was an immediate red flag. The cafe was very quiet with only one other table for 2 inside and a few tables outside yet service was slow. Lots of staff...

Disappointing. Went for bruch: 20 mins after taking our order, having not brought us our drinks, we were told they had run out of pancakes. Odd when they clearly had eggs & milk & mini market nr by. Cake substitute was stale. No apology. Suspect hollandaise sauce also not freshly made. Would not recommend.

Fantastic cafe in a great central Brighton location. We ordered from the brunch menu and can highly recommend the Eggs Royale. The rocky road (began) was delicious, too! Carly and Polly, our servers, were really friendly and welcoming.

Food was great, but the highlight was our gorgeous and attentive waiter Kel who really looked after us and made our day special. We would def come back again, if only to be served by him again. Def worth a visit.

I went here with my friend while we were visiting Brighton, it was so good, I took my son there two days later. The manager remembered me and was so nice. Even though it was very busy, our food came before they said it would. It was well presented and tasted amazing yet again. Everything was so fresh and full of flavour. The staff are great, friendly and professional. When I'm in Brighton again I will definitely be eating here again.

Very pleasantly surprised. I loved my mini breakfast, everything in it was cooked perfectly. I had a milkshake as they use ice cream and it was very nice (although would have loved it a bit colder). I live in Brighton so have been here plenty of times to say this confidently. Every time I’ve been here it takes them absolutely forever (1.5-2) hours to bring out my food, the food is really good but also every single time they’ve made a mistake and when I’ve pointed it out to them, they’ve been rude and snappy and made me feel uncomfortable. It’s a nice atmosphere in there but that’s mostly down to the interior and the location, not the people.

I revisited Kooks when in Brighton yesterday for lunch with 2 of my teenagers. My son had a burger for £10 and was asked if he wanted chips which he said yes to but we hadn’t realised they were £4 extra for a tiny bowl and he wasn’t told. I only had a coffee my teenagers just tap water. My daughter and I had the butternut squash salad bowl which was basically a heap of salad leaves with shavings of butternut squash and few pomegranate seeds for £11. My daughter was still hungry. I said this as I paid over £40 at till. We were offered a flap Jack. Won’t be going back there unless prices are reduced or you are given more for your money!
