Great Indian eaten here quite a lot clean toilets good service very well priced only thing that I don’t really like is they have a weird mint sauce which is very average with the starters

We popped in on a Monday night (thank you for being open) and had a terrific meal. The food was excellent, the menu varied, and the staff were lovely. I've eaten in many Indian restaurants over the past 60 years or so, and this is one I would like to have in my community. Really good food, and bit different.

Food was stunning and service was excellent , the restaurant has a great atmosphere and offers a wide range of Indian food and has a nice cocktail menu too. The staff are friendly and make you feel very welcome from the moment you step through the door I would highly recommend

My son booked a table for a mothers' day treat knowing I love Indian food, although my husband doesn't. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout our visit. There were no traditional British dishes listed on the menu but on request they were very happy to cook a generous portion of plain chicken for my husband, while the rest of us ate a variety of vegetarian and prawn dishes. All were very good indeed, as I have found the food to be on previous visits, ever since the restaurant changed hand around 2018. I was impressed that our plain chicken request was accepted without fuss. The restaurant is attractively presented and spacious enough, but cosy. Service was quick and an extra order, after our food had been served, arrived in two minutes. I thought the meal was good value at around £25 per head for poppadums, main courses, and quite a few beers.

Booked from room for a wedding function sometime in advance. On our bookings they had asked if we wanted balloons and all that sort of stuff so they knew it was a special function. On arrival ten minutes early and what was meant to be their opening time they had allowed other people to sit and start eating in the area we reserved. They checked the reservation book and found us in it with the room marked as reserved. The best they could do was to split the room so the guests were not seated together. They jammed the tables around. All they needed to do was move the people between courses and explain their mistake. But no make us wait 20 minutes for them to jimmy us around these other people whilst we waiting in the cold outside. How embarrassing Considering we've been loyal customers for donkeys years. We've put up with at times awful food, even more awful service recently they had been back to their good old selves. However the manager/owner wasn't there and they messed up our big day. We had to go and book a large table elsewhere which thankfully saved the day. The other restrauant had a function room which we could have booked instead if shampoo didn't want the work. Utterly disappointing

Nice Indian Restaurant, good selection of choice on the menu. The service was attentive without being over bearing and on the whole we enjoyed the experience. Our curry's were a little under spiced for what we are used to, but understand each chef is different. We would go back if back in the area.

Great meal at Shampan this evening. Monkfish curry, saag paneer, chana masla, mushroom rice and garlic nan. Highly recommended.

Oh dear every time I get a takeaway from here I keep my fingers crossed that it will be better. Today was a real low. Go to the ashoka from now on! There was no garlic or nice taste at all to the garlic naan tasteless and dry. Rice ok but hard to get that wrong. Just look at the pathetic excuse of a chicken tikka main. 3 x small pieces of chicken. Really pathetic

We called one night for a delivery and the guy on the phone was so so rude regarding our order. Go somewhere else where the customer service is a lot more polite

I’ve eaten in the restaurant previously and it was pretty good but this is one of the only times we’ve had a takeaway and it was absolutely appalling. The worst Indian takeaway we’ve ever had. The lamb was over cooked and rock hard in the passanda, the chips weren’t cooked, neither was the Nan bread. So very disappointed and won’t return again.

A group of us went for a special evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked very late due to the original venue suffering a power outage. The staff were kind and welcoming and the food came in good time despite the restaurant being packed. The food was absolutely amazing. The cost was surprisingly very reasonable. The whole event was a lovely experience and I would recommend the Shampan to anyone. Thank you.

One of the worst takeaway curries I have had, 3 tasteless mains, couldn't tell them apart, small amount of chicken, no coriander garnish, I am gobsmacked to read people have enjoyed eating this.

I was on my own which is not always easy. I was seated quickly and a menu and my drink appeared very quickly. The shish kebab appeared and was hot and sufficiently spicy. It was soon followed by a good chicken biryani and a sag allo side which were both tasty. Service was quick, friendly and efficient.

We ordered a takeaway. I’ve done done 300+ reviews and this was the second worst food I’ve ever had in all of those times the word of the day is scrimping. I’ll get the positives out the way. Lovely staff. Can’t fault them. Having move down from cardiff and Llantwit major we were surprised at the lack of any taste compared to somewhere like Lubnas in llantwit which on all fronts is superior. The tikka starter were fridge cold:anyone want a fridge cold starter? No!? No we didn’t like Either Saag paneer was a classic with TWO tiny cubes of Cheese. Tasteless and measly Main courses are bland and SO tight on portions. Our prawn main dish had about ten tiny prawns in it. So tight and cheap. The population of cowbridge isn’t thick and with t put up with this ridiculous portion control. One of the worst takeaways we’ve ever had in South Wales. £40 of measly tasteless horror

We had a meal last night from the Shampan and it was truly outstanding. Best Indian meal we've had for a long time. Everything tasted fantastic and well prepared.

With all that is going on this year, not going out to eat, I was really missing a good Indian. The Shampan was recommended by a friend, I've now had 2 deliveries and both were very good, after the first I messaged asking if they did something similar to my favourite dish, they suggested the Chutty Curry was, so I ordered that and wasn't disappointed, very tasty, great communication from them. Highly recommended.

The refurbishments are progressing well and, hopefully, should be completed within the next few weeks. Despite this Sayeed and his staff are battling on bravely and the food (with a new chef) is as good as ever. Can't wait (but will have to) for the new look Shampan.

I have been going to the shampan for years and never a bad word to say about it but tonight a very different story.I ordered chicken byriani which was honestly the spicyest curry I have ever had, it was bland it looked poor all I got from it was just pure spice. I always order this dish and have never known it to be spicyFrom the look of the food they have a new chef. I also ordered poppadoms and a sheek kebab starter which did not come with sauce. All in all it was the worst experience Ive ever had from there or any Indian restaurant, I think they need the old chef back.

A revisit to this establishment after a few beers. I had the murgh masala and my friend enjoyed the chicken jalfrezi, albeit one of the best we’ve had for a while, portion, flavour and correct spice as requested. The renovation work inside the restaurant is outstanding, no doubt it will be a fresh outlook for cowbridge diners upon completion. We will be back very soon. This place has done well during the Covid episode, food good with special deals for health staff / keyworkers. Nice veg range to, friendly staff.

Ordered a takeaway had items missing. I guess that we should have checked when collecting but assumed that the restaurant would put everything in. Although to be honest that was the least of our issues. Food wasn’t great either. A combination of cold or inedible - we put most in the food waste. We’ve noticed that quality is hit and miss and now is at the point where we won’t use again.

They very sweetly included a bottle of rather nice white wine with our order totally FOC. We did order about £100+ for 4 people but nonetheless I was pretty nervous about trying a new Indian place and having it ordered to my friend’s house as the main supper piece. Quite rogue but they’re new parents and didn’t want to cook. We needn’t have been worried at all. It was simply superb! We eat a lot of Indian and purposefully seek out good quality, authentic tastes, not your standard “English Indian”. This was worth every penny and everyone was super impressed. In terms of recommendations, the king prawn coconut curry was lovely; the daal; lamb bhuna; chicken jalfrezi but could have been hotter IMO; the paneer starter; the list goes on!

Have had 2 since covid and they have both been absolutely brilliant and arrived quickly with everything hot and included, thank you

We have been indulging in a Fri take away from Shampan and they have always been brilliant. My wife is Vegan and they have always been happy to accommodate her needs and are more than happy to recommend suitable dishes.The reason for this review however is the Lamb Bhuna from last Fri. It was exceptional. I have been privileged to work in Nagpur in the state of Maharashtra in India, and the curry last Fri brought be straight back. It was delicious and full of flavour. The lamb was succulent and tender.I'm looking forward to next Fri and wonder if I will be brave enough to try something different1

Because of coronavirus this restaurant is closed but --------------- the takeway is open so decided to try. Twenty minutes from home but the food was excellent and still hot enough to thoroughly enjoy. Visited again last week and will be going back this week!!!! Sayeed and Salim were - as always - full of optimism and hope for the future of this business and we wish them all the best. See you soon.

Visited shampan today for my wife’s birthday. The menu is quite diverse, and We had a fabulous meal. The service was attentive and faultless. Will definitely be returning :)

Visited Thursday evening (early bird) and not disappointed. All three courses were very tasty and the new dessert menu was better than the previous. Apparently further changes are being made - watch this space!!

We booked this place and we were not disappointed the food was absolutely gorgeous. The chicken shashlik was gorgeous. The onion bhajees the nicest we’ve ever had. Chutney try also fab along with my partners main dish. Only giving a 4 as compared to the service which was given to ‘regular’ customers compared to what we had was different! But we will be back!

I've been highly critical of the Shampan over the last year or so, mainly due to their inflated prices and poor / lack of vegetarian and vegan options. However, thought we'd give it one more try so plumped for the early menu at a reduced cost. Have to say it was excellent, fantastic value for money, tasty and good sized portions. Service excellent and the decor has changed for the better having got rid of those damn awful 70's bubble tubes. Veg dishes really good and lovely to see they have reduced the salt and sugar compared to the previous owners. Will certainly return.

This was our first visit but NOT our last. The food is truly amazing. The restaurant is welcoming and the staff are polite and exceptionally helpful. It’s 5 stars from me ⭐️

We enjoyed our evening. Our choice of dishes were full of flavour with bursts of fresh spicines. Our waiters were efficient and charming especially the senior waiter. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a delicious and very reasonable meal at the Shampan in Cowbridge. We have had difficulty in finding places to eat without booking in Cowbridge in the past. By walking a little further up the main Street towards Eastgate we found the Shampan, and they were advertising a special meal deal . The service was excellent and the choice of food also very good. We will happily visit this restaurant again when visiting Cowbridge.

I live down the road from Shampan and I havent been there for a while. My husband and I went on Friday night and noticed that it was a new menu.

Very rarely a restaurant get it right, food is tasty, service is with a smile and good clean place. Would highly recommend.

We ate here recently while staying at The Bear Hotel. We were greeted so warmly and felt that very special attention was paid to us and our needs. The meal was very good and we will definitely return.

We visited Shampan on Thursday 30th May. Although short of staff initially Sayeed and Asishe provided excellent quality service and food - as usual. They are both very professional in what they do and cannot be faulted.

This certainly was an exploration of Indian food! After a really warm and friendly welcome and in the early evening before the restaurant filled, the chef had chance to explain the dishes he recommended! This is South Indian food, fragrant and beautifully spiced rather than very, very hot with chillies. Our starter of softshell crabs with the chef's own sauce was a first for us, delicious! This was followed by an interesting 'home style' chicken curry which was my sister's favourite (and she's a good cook!) mine was the lamb curry, good lean, tender lamb. Everything was well cooked, the rice etc, nothing heavy. Most enjoyable!

I have eaten here many times since the change in Management and I must say it's a massive improvement.....

Visited Shampan for the early bird meal from the menu. We were greeted with a very polite waiter that offered us a great seat alongside the window. Nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. It is really worth a visit for the excellently prepared food and the Shampan is great value for money.

On reading the great review was looking forward to a takeaway here. Really disappointed. Overpriced and my makhani separated and was watery , telling me it was frozen and reheated. Won’t be revisiting. Very expensive for quality of the food. £39 for onion bahjis, two nans, one rice and two curries.

Came here for mothers day lunch with my family, the service was very good and accommodating for the children. Food was excellent and the price was good. we will be returning again soon.

Happy to come back to the Shampan after a long break and certainly not disappointed ! The food was excellent, loved the homestyle chicken curry and the peshwari bread was amazing. Excellent service , friendly staff and the early bird special was a great deal . We will certainly be back soon.

Once again enjoyed a fantastic valentines set 5 course meal including wine for £29 50 per couple. Lovely welcoming polite staff and relaxing atmosphere. Great night.

We went to the Shampan last year and we were so impressed with the choice of food and service and price, we wrote a five star review. We have been back twice after and still wonderful. But tonight we returned, and found it has been taken over by new management, and what a difference this has made. We received the menu, and we were really struggling to find something we have had before, and enjoyed. Like you, reading this review, we have been to hundreds of these types of restaurant, so we have become experts, so when you get stumped on the menu, then you are in trouble. Lots of fishy things, which i am not knocking as i have not tried them, but for your typical meal, then it was not there, and the only thing near was chicken Jalfrezi. Now i can cook one of these, and if you can imagine, tomato puree, kashmiri chili powder stirred into some quarter cooked big sliced onions, throw in some processed tandoori chicken and a bit of green bell pepper, then that's it. It probably had more, but that's exactly what it tasted like, and too much Kashmiri chilli powder and too much salt, nearly melted my tonsils. The starter was okay, but bland and boring. The staff were as before very polite , but they were running and rushing about, which made it very uncomfortable, and it was a bit like having your meal at the local hospital A&E; ward. Basically if you like a good curry and relaxed atmosphere, then chose somewhere else, as we will never go back.

This is the best Indian restaurant in Cardiff hands down. If you would like to eat authentic Indian food, try this place. The food is really tasty and spicy like it supposed to be. Keep up the good work. We will visit here again and also will recommend other friends and family.

Under new management the restaurant offers a wide choice of tasty Indian food. Service is quick friendly and efficient. This restaurant offers very good value for money especially the early bird offers.

It is very sad to see our local Indian has gone downhill massively since the new management has taken place we have visited this place for many years but our last few experiences was disappointing we will not be returning for sure we thought the staff where very rude the food was tasteless the new menu is awful the manager didn’t care about our complaints wonder why it’s now known as the SHITPAN!! We don’t recommend this resturant to anyone!!

We had Christmas lunch at the Shampan and the food (set menu) and service were absolutely outstanding! Already booked for next Christmas! Highly recommended.

Yesterday evening (15th) we visited Shampan, Cowbridge, and were again delighted with the meals. We started with fish pattie (not on the menu but a specialty that Asishe the superb Chef will prepare if asked to do so) which was delicious. My partner then had meat samosa followed by lamb sagg with coconut rice and chicken tika masla with garlic naan for myself. We both had a glass of lager followed by a glass of white wine each. Deserts are still limited due to a change in supplier but we had ferroro and flake. Why go anywhere else when such gorgous food is on offer and the staff are so obliging - no matter how busy they are. Thank you all.

Fantastic night last night at Shampan. Really can't praise the food enough and this goes for every member of our party. Had the duck Mappas, which was rich, complex and just delicious and my other half had the Mumbai street chaat starter, which she insists I should give an honourable mention to.

Poppadoms and the chutneys - Warm and crisp (perfect), mint sauce needs to be improved, Onion bhaji starters - Excellent (best we have had anywhere), Chicken tikka rogan - Excellent, Chicken Korma - Excellent, Chicken pasanda - nice but could be better (even though still good) Chicken Dupiaza - Nice but to many onions (even though it is an onion dish) just a bit less and more chicken would be better, Pilau rice x4 - Excellent. Also some candle dish warmers on the table would be an improvement. Staff last night were great. So overhaul i would say a very enjoyable meal, nice resturaunt, few minor improvements needed as stated above which i am sure will happen because there is not a shortage of competition, but yes, certainly go and give it a try and i would return there yes.

Visited last evening. Very friendly efficient staff. Excellent non- intrusive service . The choice of dishes was varied and delicious. I was helped with my choice by a member of staff who recommended the chicken home style. Superb! All in all a very enjoyable experience. Shall be returning soon.

We went to the Shampan for a family birthday celebration. There were quite a few of us and the staff made us very welcome. We were all able to sit together and our drinks and food orders were taken efficiently and accurately. When the food came it was hot and extremely tasty. A really delicious combination of flavours and all cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant and would gladly eat there again anytime.

I have eaten at Shampan several times and have always been delighted with the excellent quality and tastes of the meals. The portions are just right and the range of dishes available is always excellent and very good value. The staff are very knowledgeable about the food and always polite and courteous.

As a regular visitor to the Shampan, I really did not recognise the description of it given by a recent reviewer - in fact, it is so different from our experiences that they could have been talking about a different restaurant! A lot of people feel they are knowledgable about Indian food and always expect the same anglicised meals because they do not appreciate authentic Indian recipes. On the menu, there are detailed descriptions alongside all the meal choices and the team are keen to match spice expectations to the reality, so offer hotter versions if that is what the customer wants.
