Shambles Kitchen in York

Went here for the vegan shawarma wrap, it was lovely. So much filling, but a little pricy for the size. This is to be expected in York.

I will come back to York only to eat a few sandwiches from this place - absolutely delicious 🤤 Thank u for the delicious food, u guys are doing gods work 😇

This place is one of the only reasons we keep coming back to York 😂. These sandwiches are the BEST.

Honestly one of the best sandwiches/street food I've ever had! Went for the Guy Fawkes; so much flavour! Service was quick too even during a busy lunchtime

This is the second time eating at the shambles kitchen and it's been fantastic both times. I've tried the trufflepuff and the Judy Hench and both are good, but the Judy Hench is my favourite so far. My partner has had the vegan shawarma twice and loves it. Very quick to order and receive your food, you get a little buzzer that goes off when your order is ready and have only waited 5/10 mins both times. We are from Kent and will stop here on the way up again for sure! Helps that York is a beautiful place 😁

I always stop here for lunch when I'm in York. The pulled pork sandwich is outstanding and the service is great. There's tables behind the restaurant in Shambles market where I can usually find seats.

2 beautiful sandwiches. Headed down after social media storm. My sandwich was 10/10 (pork and gammon) and my wife was very impressed with her's also (Reuben).

What a sandwich, soft bread, full of meat and sauce, very tasty. Prices are a bit high but worth it.

This place is fantastic, I absolutely love it. Sandwiches are quite pricey but you get what you pay for. They are so delicious and having things like a sparkling stick in the guy Fawkes sandwich just makes it memorable. Would highly recommend

This place had me yearning for their sandwiches from the moment I passed, You can smell here from a street over , Every time, I'd have either eaten, had plans, or a queue as long as the ghost merchants I got the Dame Judy Hench, Had a lovely chat with the woman working there and was given a sandwich that looked like the picture Needs no guesses to say it was absolutely devoured, and I'm now planning a trip back to york just to try the rest of the selection

Daaamn, one of the best sandwiches I've ever had! It could have been a tad bigger, but I'm glad it wasn't as the focus was on the ingredients and they definitely are spot on. Does have a good-sized queue in front with a bunch of instagrammers waiting to take a photo of the guy Fawkes sandwich which comes with a sparkle.

Ordered a Dame Judy Hence and loved it. Sandwiches are on the pricey side but well worth it as you get plenty of fillings!

This is only my second time in York but I can't believe you can get better value street food anywhere else in the city. Outstanding!

If I could, I would give 10 starts. Smelt the food as I walked past and just had to get something. Ended up getting the Harry trotter. Whitch is pulled pork. Card only, which is not a problem. But it's super amazing food. They put a sparkler on top with is a nice touch

The pork has a little fishy smell, it's British pork, but it's still very fragrant! It's very atmospheric, maybe it's winter, the wind is so strong and cold. Next to it is a Harry Potter themed store

Decent sandwich. Arrived late as many options were not available. Had pulled pork which was tasty. Ordered at the door so can not add stars for atmosphere.

Visited York for a couple of days. And can honestly say this place is the does the best sandwich we have ever had. We tried the Dick Turpin and the dame Judy Hench. Both amazing couldn't pick a favourite, so we went back for more to bring home. Overall 100% recommend fresh food, excellent service and the lovely lady who served us WOW she can really sing.

That has got to be the tastiest sandwich that I have ever eaten . I chose the guy fawkes and the young lady taking orders explained both the Ingredients and how it was cooked . Best £9-50 I've ever spent.

Amazing food, best Reuben I've ever had. Staff were very friendly, and entertaining listening to them singing Lady Gaga whilst working. Will make this a must visit every time!

We visited midweek at lunchtime. The young lady who served us was great, she was helpful and advised on our choice of meal. The food came quickly and was really tasty. We thought it was good value and would definitely recommend.

Stumbled across this while exploring the shambles for the first time, boy was I lucky! Such an awesome sandwich (got the Reuben), made dead quick and I was able to watch the process through the window! Loved it!

I'm not going to lie, I was wandering around getting "hangry" and saw the pictures in the window and thought "this will do, looks good" Woah! What seemed like a small bite when being prepared was a heck of a sandwich and really packed a punch. Pure destiny that my"hanger" had led me here. Beautifully slow cooked meat, lots of flavours, went so lovely with the soft focaccia bread. Thanks Shambles Kitchen 🥳🥳🥳

Nice but small for 9.50 would expect more

It was a tasty Sandwich but for £8.50 the portions are too small. You're only a couple of quid away from a sit down meal , where's the value?

Fantastic little shop, the pulled pork sandwich has got to be one of the best I've had. Lots of flavour, good size and overall well worth the money. The service today was great, and the workers are very friendly. Thank you! Will be visiting again

Had two very tasty and amazing sandwiches here ! So much so that my son is now moving York uni to his first choice so he can frequently visit the shambles kitchen.also brownies were perfect!!

I think I've found the best sandwich ever. I had the Trufflepuff and it was amazing. Really reasonable prices and great taste. Look forward to trying the Harry Trotter on my next visit

Fantastic sandwich with lots of flavour - staff are super friendly and the whole experience was lovely. Little pricey but definitely worth it. Planning to go again in November/December.

The food was really good however they give you a small portion and it is too pricey for the amount they give.

A few different options, we tried the pulled pork sandwich and it was very tasty; fresh bread, tasty meat and sauce. Waiting time was about 5-7min. I will def go back to try the other sandwiches they offer!

Best sandwiches in York, hands down!! Always have lunch here when I’m visiting, it’s too good to miss! All the meats are smoked on-site (to absolute perfection) 11/10 would recommend.

Absolutely the best street food. I stopped by twice, first for the “Harry Trotter” Pulled Pork sandwich, which to my surprise, came with a sparkler tucked in for fun. Talk about a memorable experience. My 2nd visit was for the “Dick Turpin” Beef Reuben. Also a great sandwich with ample mustard and pickles. This is my go to spot for street food in York. Next time I visit, I’ll be stopping by.

I got the chicken shawarma, which was delicious and mess-free. My go-to place for lunch when working in the city.

Great food for a good price and lovely staff

I've been a loyal customer to Shambles Kitchen for a few years now, I've moved away from York and visit annually. However, when I returned this year the 2 females in the shop were quite obnoxious and sexist. When my husband asked for a chicken wrap they explained that was quite a lot of salad and not much chicken, and said to get a sandwich as they're "much better". This made us both quite uncomfortable. The person serving us was dancing and not really paying much attention to the time to make the food, so gave us a buzzer and said it'll only be a minute, but it was obviously much longer. The food was excellent, as it always is - I was just disappointed in the service. We ate our food on a table in shambles market

Food is very good but the price is way too high. 9,5 pounds for a small sandwich. That’s mad.

Delicious food, I had a small vegan shawarma which was a great portion for the price. Would definitely come here again. Customer service is great too, I was served by the friendly alex :) My partner who is not veggie also said the wrap was amazing!!

Their sandwiches served with fireworks is a main highlight visiting the Shambles

Been wanting to try this sandwich for ages now (the camilla) ever since I saw it on Instagram and wowwww it didn’t disappoint!! Packed full of flavour and tonnes of textures going on, so so good. Quite messy to eat so not one to grab on the go / if in a rush. Vegan heaven but they’ve got loads of meat filled options for the meat lovers too

It's easily the best sandwich in my whole life. Really! I ate two days in a role, and I could eat every day, always craving for more, hahaha 😆

Any sandwich that comes with a sparkler in it, has me at hello. Luckily the sandwiches aren’t just style over substance- god those guys make a great sarnie. We got the Beef Barbacoa and the Reuben. Both sublime, made with care, thought and precision. Were they “cheap” sandwiches? No. Were they worth every penny, absolutely 100% yes. Stacked, flavourful, perfect. Will definitely visit again.

The most delicious sandwich/wrap we’ve ever eaten! I had the vegan Schwarma wrap and it was full of flavour! My partner had the Harry trotter which looked and tasted amazing. Definitely recommend here when visiting York!

Quick visit when walking the shambles, had a delicious vegan shawarma wrap (the small was more that enough to fill you up!), partner really enjoyed the chicken shawarma too!

Stopped by for a quick sandwich while wandering the old town. They were very tasty, but not particularly large given the price. Would definitely return, however.

The man serving us (with a mustache) was the loveliest guy i’ve ever been served by. We came near the end of the day and he was just so helpful and made our burritos despite being a minute past closing time with the most genuine, easy going conversation ever. A glowing review for not only the food but that man in particular :))

Oh my! The Dick Turpin aka a Beef Reuben's was absolutely amazing. Generous delicious brisket pastrami, just the right amount of cheese, gherkin and sauerkraut providing an excellent supporting cast of yum, without over powering the beefy star. The staff were happy, smiley and genuinely lovely.

Food to die for , Chinese to Mexican , Thai to Swiss , sweet or savoury … this place will sort your cravings right out. Cheap and cheery , just what we like

Good experience, little late on the review tried the guy Fawkes sandwich last year on our trip to york! It didn’t disappoint, will recommend it - it was really busy on that weekend and we couldn’t get through the queue on day 1 so had to go back the next day! Plan your eating time accordingly to avoid the disappointment if you do have to wait in a queue..

Nice Food but so overpriced, it looked so different to what we got on the picture 'dick turpen' for £10 I was expecting a large sub and it was tiny, and I know how much fillings was in the sandwhich and it was not 'packed with meat' we felt robbed to be honest. Wont be going here again next time we visit york and wouldnt recommend to others.

Wwwooowwww! We researched this place on our drive up to York and had it down as a must try based on a couple of things we had watched / read - it did not disappoint! The staff were so nice & really helpful too which always confirms I want to spend my money somewhere! They helped us make our choice by explaining what was inside each sandwich & also telling us their favourites too! I had the Beef Reuben - Dick Turpin, which was recommended by one of the staff who said it was their favourite. I’m glad I listened as I will go as far as saying it’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve had. Full to the brim of lovely filling and the flavours were all so perfect! My wife had the pulled pork and she also really enjoyed hers too! I know that if we were to ever return to York, we will come back to this place every time. Already looking forward to our next trip here!

not the first time going here for a burrito and its always amazing food. Highly recommend the beef. You can put whatever you want in the wrap and it still tastes amzing. Good value for money.

Looking for something nice and tasty yesterday lunchtime whilst in York. Stumbled across this stall in the York Food Market. It was the mouthwatering smell that initially drew us in. When we seen just what was causing our taste buds to drool our minds were made up instantly. Hard to decide just what to have but we opted for the ‘mixed kebab’ with fries and salad topped with yogurt,mint and garlic sauce. And it was delicious. Lovely tasty chicken with crispy salad..yummy. Quick summary would be...Great food...Great service...and Great background music. All in all 2 very ‘Happy bunnies ‘....Can’t wait to visit next time in York from Newcastle...Paul & Carole xx

We arrived around 5ish, they were running low on certain bits (always a good sign) we ordered a beef burrito and a pork burrito, both excellent, really tasty, happy we made it in time, no wonder they're so popular, fresh tasty food ready right there in front of you, sod waiting 40 minutes in a stuffy pub for summat rushed and disappointing. Would defo eat again

The customer service was second to none, and you could tell they really care about their craft! Plenty of Gluten Free options and I would definitely recommend the chicken burrito bowl :))

We had burrito's from the smokehouse burrito bar in the shambles market. Very impressed with the quality and flavour especially considering that two were vegan, one gluten free and one normal.

Fun menu (Piers Morgan gammon roll, anyone?) and absolutely delicious food. Quick service, and nearby seating where we watched street performers while we ate. The kids had blow-torched cheese and ham sandwiches, I went for a chicken shawarma - delicious - and my husband went for something enormous and absolutely stuffed with meat.

The Guy Fawkes sandwich with beef barbacoa was excellent, as well as being entertaining to watch being made with a blow torch. My wife also had the same filling from the stall round the corner in a burrito which was also very tasty, and since then we have tried the Pork Al Pastor burrito which is equally great.

Very average, way overpriced won’t be back and the addition of the sparkler doesn’t add flavour waste of £8.

So a little trip to York and both lunches had at the Shambles kitchen!! Service quick and staff very friendly. You can watch through the window as they prepare the sandwiches. We had the beef sandwich and the gammon sandwich on the first visit both absolutely delicious loads of meat and the bread fabulous.Next day we had a reuben and the pulled pork both delicious not sure if we are a little biased as we are fans of the reuben but this was definitely our favourite . We will be back I promise.

I just LOVED the new #guyfawkes sandwich they launched. It so tasty, made fresh, from local owners.. amazing. Evertything they do is really yummy.

My smoked pork burrito was out of this world - sensational! Friendly service and reasonable pricing. With chicken, beef and vegetarian options there’s something for all tastes and if you like it spicy he’ll tweak it up for you
