The food is excellent with good veggie and vegan options. We had booked a table but waited over an hour for food to arrive. The prices shown don’t include VAT so the bill comes as a bit of a surprise.

We had a lovely experience at Partisan in York. The café has a cosy, inviting aesthetic that makes it a perfect spot for a relaxed meal. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, with thoughtful decor and a calm vibe. We ordered the English Breakfast and the Vegan Tempeh Sandwich, along with a glass of fresh juice. Both dishes were delicious and beautifully presented. The Vegan Tempeh Sandwich, in particular, was outstanding — the Ciabatta bread they used was absolutely to die for, soft yet perfectly textured, and it really made the sandwich unforgettable. The fresh juice was refreshing and complemented the meal wonderfully. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. Partisan is definitely a place I would always recommend to anyone visiting York — whether for a hearty breakfast, a casual lunch, or just to enjoy the cosy atmosphere over a drink.

Saw the positive reviews about how amazing the place is. First off the food was good but not great and at the price point was a bit too expensive for what it was. Found other places for the same quality of food cheaper. The restaurant itself was a lovely design but one small toilet with people lining up through the main restaurant was a little bit off putting whilst eating. The staff were ok compared to other eating establishment, which will come to my next point. Over 30mins for drinks to arrive and only after we physically asked for some water did they eventually arrive. Then food arrived nearly an hour later. Which I know it was busy but every other place that I’ve been to in York was either the same level of busy or more and food came within 20 minutes or less. But to ask for even water to get the attention was the biggest negative. Wouldn’t really recommend this place, I personally think it’s quite overrated and over priced.

Colorful soup is very thick, taste strong and salty . The bread is too hard to bite. Scramble egg is ok but the same problem (bread is too hard to bite).I am really disappointed the food. Staff are very nice. Entrance is a bit narrow. Hard for wheelchair to go through. Would recommend just buy some cakes and takeaway. Some fresh flowers sell in front of the main door which is nice. I would not recommend to dinning in.

This place was amazing. Showed up with no reservations prime time on Easter Monday for breakfast/brunch, and room was immediately made for us in their cute tented, heated dining room in the courtyard. The food was amazing — their elegantly simple, elevated, massive traditional full English breakfast was amazing, as was the vegan version of it and their pastries. Overall a wonderful spot for a splurge breakfast.

Went here and had a booking on the Friday but took so long to get seated and then they take us to the tent at the back instead of inside the building. Chai tea was cold and wife’s drink didn’t taste so great it tasted mostly of soda water and the food took close to an hour to be delivered to our table. Wife was cold as the tent was outside. Really wish had known the food would take an hour to arrive as would have went somewhere else. Wanted to just tell them after 40 minutes we were would just pay for the drinks and leave. What happens when you have a booking is you wait In a queue outside but other people are already waiting for the same tables inside and get seated first ahead of you. This place has a tiny kitchen and they really need bigger premises than putting most people in a tent at the back of the building. Had high hopes for this place since all the good reviews but our experience didn’t match the other reviews. See Vitors review its true especially “ The chai latte was just sugary milk”

Loved the Partisan’s Spring Eggs on their seasonal menu; it has a lot of flavors I wouldn’t expect (like miso butter) from a base dish of eggs on sourdough, but it works really well! A few notes that can be useful for people visiting for the first time: - The cafe is quite small and a bit tight in places. It’s really cosy but might not be suitable if you don’t do well with tight or crowded spaces. - I would recommend you book a table online if you plan on visiting. They are really popular and there is usually a line outside waiting for a table. - Keep in mind their service charge is a separate cost put on at the end.

Visited Partisan on Friday 11th April. We had reserved a table for two in advance as we knew how popular it is for brunch. Seated inside the lovely dining area we were served quickly by the helpful and efficient team. We ordered two vegetarian breakfasts which were amazing. Served in a cast iron skillet with a slice of delicious sourdough toast. Thank you. We will definitely be back!! We took a sneak peak into the outside dining area, there was an open air courtyard and a long marquee type seated area which we would have happily to be in, if necessary. Bought some cakes on the way out as they looked too good to miss!

Completely baffled by the positive reviews. This was the first place we ate at when visiting York from London. The prices were more expensive than some brunch spots in the capital and the quality was infinitely worse. The chai latte was just sugary milk, and the huevos vaqueros were oily, overcooked and stodgy. Even the toasted bread was clearly old and burnt. We then tried the Armenian Spice Cake which was 1) not spiced and 2) both dry on the top and undercooked on the bottom at the same time. I assumed that something must be decent at the cafe to merit the strong reviews here so kept giving things a chance and regret all of it. Service was also a disaster with most staff just standing around doing nothing, forgetting orders or berating customers for sitting in the wrong place even when multiple tables were free. Kitchen staff would also have to walk through the narrow building and interrupt customers constantly so I can't even recommend the charming ambiance of the period building. Not recommended at all.

Maybe we picked a bad day. Booked a table at 12:15. Ordered drinks which came promptly. Ordered food promptly too. Waited 40 minutes and asked where the food was. Were told it would be 5 mins. It turned up 10 mins later. Two of us had dishes on sour dough toast which was so hard it was almost in edible but as we were hungry we ate it. Two of us had poached eggs which were pretty much hard. I had the caramelised chorizo (read burnt). Back door to outside area was left open 25% of the time which meant that it quickly became freezing! Overall it was very poor. As I say it may have been a bad day but in reality it was only worth about £20 and not £55. Much better food and much better value elsewhere which was really disappointed. Sorry but this is the truth

We visited Partisan after hearing great things and made a booking well in advance. On arrival, we were seated in a sister restaurant a couple of doors down, which had the same menu. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was good. However, the food did not live up to expectations. My ShakShuka which was supposed to come with focaccia, arrived with regular bread instead, and while it was very hot, the flavours lacked the wow factor. Similarly, the Full English breakfasts were decent but not outstanding. It left us wondering if the experience was different because we were seated next door or because it was the end of service. Overall, it was fine, but not as exceptional as the reviews had led us to believe.

Partisan is, from what I've seen and heard, one of the most hyped food spots in York. Whenever you ask someone who lives in the city, "What's the best spot for breakfast/brunch/lunch?" Their immediate response is typically, "Partisan!" And whilst my heart will forever belong to Dyls (RIP), I must admit that I can see why Partisan is so highly touted. The interior is very homely. It has that rustic, cottage vibe that puts you at ease the second you walk through the door. The furniture, cutlery, and crockery add to this vibe by being a homemade mismatch, though always trendy and tasteful. The service is good. However, because Partisan is so popular, there is always a massive queue to get in. And with an endless flood of people vying for a table, the service can sometimes come across as a tad impersonal. Although, I'm certain that's because the poor staff are rushed off their feet. The food here is lovely. The portion sizes are very generous and hearty (which is the best way to win me over), and you can taste the quality of the ingredients with every bite. On the handful of occasions that I've been to Partisan, I've tried three different dishes: The Eggs Benedict - Made with thinly sliced ham (not bacon) and a Hollandaise sauce that's to die for. The Shakshuka - It comes straight out of a cast iron pan and served with a generous slice of cheese and leek focaccia. The Bacon and Scallop Sandwich - Delicious! But it would be better if it came in sourdough bread, as opposed to a brioche bun (in my opinion). A tomato chutney would also go quite nicely (once again, in my opinion). Altogether, I am a big fan of Partisan. And I'm dying to visit the owners' new evening restaurant, Brancusi, a few doors down. Stay tuned for more...

I can’t comment on the food or the atmosphere because I never had the opportunity to sample the food or experience the atmosphere. My partner and I stood at the “wait here to be seated” sign for around 5 minutes. During which 3 staff members walked past us, one multiple times, and not once did they engage eye contact or suggest a simple “bear with us a couple of moments, and I’ll be with you” courtesy of basic customer service. Bit of a shame really as we live in York and my partner works round the corner from Partisan, which is why she suggested coming here on a Sunday morning for breakfast as she said it looked good when walking past. I've always had pleasant visits previously, but not today. The Instagram page stated they open at 8:30, but on Google, it says 9:00, so I thought I would just pop by to check. I arrived at 8:20 and saw two staff members prepping. The one facing the window obviously tried to avoid eye contact with me, but I waited until she made eye contact and asked through the glass, "What time do you open?" politely with a bright smile. All I got was the snarkiest reply: "9!" Geez, maybe she isn't a morning person, or maybe she's having a bad start to the day, but I highly doubt it because she seemed really happy chatting with her colleague. I could have just strolled around and returned later, but no, not with such attending staff working today. I'm staying away from the store. A suggestion to the store: if you're so irritated with people coming earlier than opening hours, then get your information right on Instagram and also display the opening hours on the door. I headed down to Café Fleur, and guess what? They welcomed me with a bright smile. What a better way to start my day! :)

The table next to us politely asked the waitress if they could order as they were “short on time”, to which she replied “so am I” and then proceeded to challenge them, asking “do you have a train or a bus to catch?” Just because you’re charging over the odds, does not mean you can be rude…what an absolute clanger to drop And now they’ve left her in charge of the review responses too 🫣

SO GOOD! I had the beef blade, my kids had the chicken "nuggets" that were more like amazing schnitzels- everything was 100% delicious. We're going back as soon as possible 🩷

Fabulous curiosity of a historical local public house, so steeped in history that you will not want to leave.
