Maybe we picked a bad day. Booked a table at 12:15. Ordered drinks which came promptly. Ordered food promptly too. Waited 40 minutes and asked where the food was. Were told it would be 5 mins. It turned up 10 mins later. Two of us had dishes on sour dough toast which was so hard it was almost in edible but as we were hungry we ate it. Two of us had poached eggs which were pretty much hard. I had the caramelised chorizo (read burnt). Back door to outside area was left open 25% of the time which meant that it quickly became freezing! Overall it was very poor. As I say it may have been a bad day but in reality it was only worth about £20 and not £55. Much better food and much better value elsewhere which was really disappointed. Sorry but this is the truth

We visited Partisan after hearing great things and made a booking well in advance. On arrival, we were seated in a sister restaurant a couple of doors down, which had the same menu. The atmosphere was pleasant, and the service was good. However, the food did not live up to expectations. My ShakShuka which was supposed to come with focaccia, arrived with regular bread instead, and while it was very hot, the flavours lacked the wow factor. Similarly, the Full English breakfasts were decent but not outstanding. It left us wondering if the experience was different because we were seated next door or because it was the end of service. Overall, it was fine, but not as exceptional as the reviews had led us to believe.

Delicious and unique brunch food. I really enjoyed my Spanish sausage poached pear with goat cheese on toast, absolutely delicious with honey and pecans. My husband really liked his eggs in a tomato sauce with njuda sausage as well. We sat in the marquee with our dogs, it's dog friendly in the marquee only. Overall I would love to return and try the other unique dishes!

Booked here for my Ceoliac daughter's 20th birthday. Partisan were aware of my daughter's birthday. Wasn't acknowledged by any staff. Food good after our 40 minute wait but my food had to be chased up after 10 minutes of waiting after both of my daughter's food arrived. It was fine but not the hottest meal I've eaten. Said I didn't want to pay the service charge. This was accepted but no paper bill provided. Had to ask to see the tablet to see the bill. Attitude of serving staff changed after this. No goodbye acknowledgement. Won't be returning.

The food is nice but we've been 3 times now and the service is about as bad as anywhere we've eaten in York. We waited nearly 10 minutes queuing to be seated (pre-booked table - the manager was busy taking people who hadn't booked over to the restaurant next door) then waited 20mins for our coffee (we had to chase them down) and almost an hour for food. It's not a one off - it's every time we've been. Sadly won't be going back.

Food was nice but very small portions for the price. The wait for food was 20 minutes. Drinks wait was short. 15 for breakfast and 15 for French toast. Both of which were around 2/3s the size you'd expect for the price. 3.50 for a latte which was also small. Tables had a small drawer above your thighs, was so low that it cut off circulation to my legs.

Went for brunch recently and all very nice but the service was a bit slow, I was borderline asking how long the food was going to be. At £65 for 2 with a cocktail and a coffee each is steep but it is nice, I probably wouldn't go back as there are plenty of just as good maybe better value options around. Caveat it is good though and the pastries at the counter look great.

Partisan is, from what I've seen and heard, one of the most hyped food spots in York. Whenever you ask someone who lives in the city, "What's the best spot for breakfast/brunch/lunch?" Their immediate response is typically, "Partisan!" And whilst my heart will forever belong to Dyls (RIP), I must admit that I can see why Partisan is so highly touted. The interior is very homely. It has that rustic, cottage vibe that puts you at ease the second you walk through the door. The furniture, cutlery, and crockery add to this vibe by being a homemade mismatch, though always trendy and tasteful. The service is good. However, because Partisan is so popular, there is always a massive queue to get in. And with an endless flood of people vying for a table, the service can sometimes come across as a tad impersonal. Although, I'm certain that's because the poor staff are rushed off their feet. The food here is lovely. The portion sizes are very generous and hearty (which is the best way to win me over), and you can taste the quality of the ingredients with every bite. On the handful of occasions that I've been to Partisan, I've tried three different dishes: The Eggs Benedict - Made with thinly sliced ham (not bacon) and a Hollandaise sauce that's to die for. The Shakshuka - It comes straight out of a cast iron pan and served with a generous slice of cheese and leek focaccia. The Bacon and Scallop Sandwich - Delicious! But it would be better if it came in sourdough bread, as opposed to a brioche bun (in my opinion). A tomato chutney would also go quite nicely (once again, in my opinion). Altogether, I am a big fan of Partisan. And I'm dying to visit the owners' new evening restaurant, Brancusi, a few doors down. Stay tuned for more...

I can’t comment on the food or the atmosphere because I never had the opportunity to sample the food or experience the atmosphere. My partner and I stood at the “wait here to be seated” sign for around 5 minutes. During which 3 staff members walked past us, one multiple times, and not once did they engage eye contact or suggest a simple “bear with us a couple of moments, and I’ll be with you” courtesy of basic customer service. Bit of a shame really as we live in York and my partner works round the corner from Partisan, which is why she suggested coming here on a Sunday morning for breakfast as she said it looked good when walking past. Two local customers lost.

I've always had pleasant visits previously, but not today. The Instagram page stated they open at 8:30, but on Google, it says 9:00, so I thought I would just pop by to check. I arrived at 8:20 and saw two staff members prepping. The one facing the window obviously tried to avoid eye contact with me, but I waited until she made eye contact and asked through the glass, "What time do you open?" politely with a bright smile. All I got was the snarkiest reply: "9!" Geez, maybe she isn't a morning person, or maybe she's having a bad start to the day, but I highly doubt it because she seemed really happy chatting with her colleague. I could have just strolled around and returned later, but no, not with such attending staff working today. I'm staying away from the store. A suggestion to the store: if you're so irritated with people coming earlier than opening hours, then get your information right on Instagram and also display the opening hours on the door. I headed down to Café Fleur, and guess what? They welcomed me with a bright smile. What a better way to start my day! :)

Food was nice ( nowhere near as good as it used to be) but £53 for two coffees, two ginger shots and two breakfasts is a little steep ( especially to sit in a tent at the back and wait for 40 minutes for the food to arrive). It used to be amazing, welcoming place but just slightly missing the mark this time.

So went in early lunchtime looking for a table. Told there would be 5 mins wait which there was. After that time showed to a table in the "marquee" at the back, which is basically a cold tent with some plastic school chairs. There is art and the walls and music playing so not all bad. Loads of people serving. Order drinks then food. Drinks take at least 20 mins to come. When they do my cappuccino is cold with no chocolate sprinkles. Wait about 30 mins for food which in fairness is delicious. My Persian eggs were excellent but not big enough for lunch on their own. Prices are pretty steep for food in a cold tent with a load of dogs yapping about.
