FortyFive Vinyl Cafe in York

Really chuffed to have stumbled across FortyFive today. My friend and I were in the area for a work trip and stopped in for lunch with lots of local places still closed for the holidays. What a find, especially for music lovers. Great food (both had cheese toasties), good coffees and hot chocolate in a unique setting. Plus lovely friendly service. We're due back in York a couple of times later this year and will definitely be checking what gigs are on and dropping in if we can.

This was a great find. Found it on the first day is York and went every day after that. So quirky and different. Could not recommend this place more!

We came here when we visited York last year, and made straight for it when we returned. It’s such a brilliant place. Great drinks list and delicious grilled cheese… all while you browse records. What could be better!. Also attracts a really friendly crowd. I just wish they were open later but I see they’re doing more gigs now in the evening, which we will definitely return for.

A real unexpected find, great coffee, good food in a comfortable venue with decent music as well. This has a nice vibe, a shame we didn't time it right to see any live music of an evening, but certainly will plan to on our next visit to York. Highly recommended.

We came to see When Rivers Meet. Fantastic venue. As a cafe/music shop, it is quite spacious. As a music venue, it is intimate. Which, for me, was a highlight. We liked it so much, we went back for a quick beer a couple of weeks later, on our way to see Suzi Q. Where we stood talking to the owner about our collective love of music!

Loved this cafe. Only went in for afternoon tea, but going back tomorrow for afternoon tea. The mulled wine was the best we'd had all day! The staff were really pleasant and friendly. Very clean, Inc the toilets.

Feels like something out of High Fidelity - a unique, friendly, lovely hang out spot with great drinks and service with a smile ☕

Didn’t eat food. We came for a gig (Sinead Burgess 8/11/24) Fantastic venue. We felt up close and personal with the amazing artist on stage. You can tell the owners are very passionate about this place. Would definitely come here again to see a band.

Great live music venue in centre of York.

It's ok but it isn't what it used to be. It's lacking the atmosphere it had since it was taken over

Nice little spot to relax for a bit and browse some reasonably-priced second-hand records, or have a drink and admire the record sleeves embedded into the tables.

Had a very nice toasties and drinks + dog friendly and good music.

Nice people serving coffee in a nice atmosphere, we will return next time we go to York.

Great quirky cafe for music lovers

I don’t know where to start I come to this cafe most Thursday mornings before I go to my counselling sessions and it’s such a great friendly place for someone who suffers with mental health) ptsd I find it super difficult to go to places on my own but they truly have made me so comfortable and relaxed to go in I go get my delicious hot chocolate and sit on the elvis table and relax and last week the lovely owner even came over and had a little chat with me which was super nice and lovely I’m constantly telling others about this beautiful cafe and the amazing records they have that you can but I bought a few now and they haven’t disappointed me also I can’t write a review without mentioned the amazing decor of artist pictures and the tables my favourite is the guitars on the wall and the super cool jukebox In the corner never seen one before and they are definitely interesting to look at thank you for always making me feel welcome ☺️

Just stopped by for a little drink. Great atmosphere and sounds. Will definitely stop by again.

My boyfriend and I came to visit the cafe on one of the occasions they stayed open until 11 for music bingo. The staff were friendly, we had some lovely booze, the music was brilliant and had the best atmosphere. Simply didn't want to leave!

A lovely cafe worth visiting ! It was relatively quiet on the day I went in, the service was great ~ and the iced latte was really good too !

Fantastic cafe Brilliant food Amazing staff

I'm not sure what has happened to this place. We used to come all the time and thought it was fantastic. However, we have visited after a year or so to find it a shell of its former self! The atmosphere has completely changed from a chilled, laid-back vibe with sofas, to a loud, man-cave crammed with tables. The menu is the same but the food quality has plummeted. We used to love the Mexican Fender toastie, it had slices of real avocado and was spicy. Now it is bland and seems to be guacamole from a bottle. The coffee is still good. I hope it can get back some of its spark, because this place used to be amazing!

Only went in for drinks and all of us chose.different flavoured smoothies which were very nice. Owner was very nice and helpful. Place was dog friendly and we will be going back. Plenty of live music gigs coming up.

Just happened upon this place. Good tea and amazing hot choc. Place with a laid back rock vibe happening. We spent a pleasant 3/4 hour made to feel welcome and friendly not touristy. Good luck!

Ian and Rebecca have created a real gem. A warm, friendly welcome, lovely food and brilliant music at affordable prices. Can’t wait to come back.

The Coolest Cafe to sit, listen to music, and have a toasty for breakfast.. Full of Musical Memorabilia, including Signed Guitars and Vinyls on the walls and Retro Juke Box.. It also has live music on Selected Nights... And a Bar... Brilliant... Good luck to the owner..

Had a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. The bees knees 🐝. Nice ambient atmosphere owner seem very passionate as its tastfully personalised. Will visit again.

Loved it, music lovers would be very happy to spend an afternoon soaking up the atmosphere. If there had been tickets available I would have gone back one evening for the live music whilst we were in York. Great coffee too

We stumbled on 45 on the way into York from the station. The coffee (best cafe-brewed coffee ever), cake and atmosphere were so good that we called by on our way back to the station for beer (great range including no-alcohol) and pie. It's unique, and it's friendly. Even for someone not that interested in music the photos, juke-box and general atmosphere are really engaging. The owner is good to talk to too.

Stumbled upon this place from the rain what gem definitely will be back.

Fantastic atmospheric cafe. Truly one of a kind. Walls are lined with 60s pop memorabilia and have a great playlist. Most customers were singing along to their faves. Ordered a toastie which was slightly overcooked almost burnt. Average taste but hot and filling. They need to rethink the bread used, especially at the slightly higher than average prices charged. In this town. Their baileys chocolate is a wonderful treat and well recommended.

Can't believe we've been into York (local) so many times and not dropped in here. Our sort of music and the greatest cheese toasties possible. No idea about any other food but the toastie menu is awesome. Perfect atmosphere and vibe.

Absolutely a little hidden gem. If you like music this is the place to visit. The owner is great and the staff all lovely. I would argue it's a must for anyone coming to York. (Also, if you're lucky, they have live music with some good musicians playing) Oh, and the food is honest, coffee and cake (or a toastie). It's my favorite cafe in York.

As The Cars, said so many years ago, "this was just what I needed".

Great grilled sandwiches with many vegetarian and vegan options; unique atmosphere and exceptional service. This is one of our favourite places in York and we always go there when we need breakfast, light lunch or afternoon snack

Went for drinks in the afternoon. Lovely space, freeplay jukebox. Owner obviously really cares about the place. Didn't eat, but cheese sandwiches looked good.

We stumbled into this wonderfully creative, welcoming and fun establishment in the middle of a game of musical bingo. What an absolute delight. A gem in every way. Thank you for the music, the Prosecco and the fun! We will return next time we are in York, in fact we would visit York again in order to visit you. Everywhere should have one of you.

Chilled, friendly venue with excellent music. Coffee was good too 5 stars right through, slight technical Issue!

Shame no longer do the filter coffee jugs, lost it's individuality in doing so. Not as clean either which didn't inspire me to eat there this time

Go here and get a toastie! (I do almost weekly!) A lovely, cosy place with great staff, food, coffee and cocktails. If you want to listen to some good music and relax it's a must visit while in York! Oh, and don't miss out on the music bingo - the energy is unbelievable!

Love this place , we were made fantastically welcomed by the superb staff and the brilliant owner Ian , who took time out to have a blether and tell us of what the best venues in the city were . Which we acted on , to have a brilliant weekend overall . Food was excellent and the decor was eye poppingly brilliant , from signed guitars , a jukebox , albums and an array of in house collection of framed photographs taken by the owner of music stars past and present . Hugely recommend you go here , it's so unique you won't be disappointed .

The guy put depeche mode - just can’t get enough on the duke box. My son was wearing his Celtic top! Fantastic service 💚🍀🤍 HH! I have coeliac disease, I feel great no reaction to this food.

A unique cafe/brunch place with plenty of charm and some great toasties. The atmosphere here is unique! Nothing quite like it, lots of memorabilia and art around the walls. Service is friendly. Food is great. Really great toasties - perfect for a brunch or late lunch to keep you going.

We came as a large group while we were up in York for the weekend. Ian and the team really looked after us. Fortyfive is a great independent place with a relaxed atmosphere and great food. Will definitely be back next time I’m in York.

Nice little place, plays great music. Nice drink options. I had the hard lemonade which tasted great with a very tasty English breakfast toasties.

As ageing vegan, beer drinking, live music loving people, my girlfriend and I absolutely LOVE this place! Discovered it yesterday, had an amazing vegan breakfast, bought tickets for the evening's gig and had the most amazing time. Everyone especially the owner were very friendly, too, will deffo pop in again soon.

What an amazing place, a must visit if you love music, vinyl and memorabilia. We had vegan toasties, with a selection of fillings, they were so good. Very friendly staff. Coming back tonight for some live music!

Brilliantly quirky music cafe with plenty of memorabilia on display. Sells vinyls too. We didn't try any good, but the menu looked good. We did sample some of the local beers which were excellent. If you are in York this is well worth a visit.

So you’re in York and your train is not for a little while? Walk on over here if it’s open. Have a beer or a coffee, listen to some tunes, chat with the friendly owner. It’s clear they made this place out of their love of music. Recommend it.

Bigger one of these in skipton, not into records anymore but ale and atmosphere was great.

A warm welcome from friendly staff. The food was great, just what I needed for a fast lunch with a colleague. Decor was rustic with a music theme. The soundtrack for our lunch was good, not too loud, just right. Night time may be different. I will definitely put it to the top of my lunch destinations.

Vegans go here for a good toastie!!! It was delicious - and lovely dessert snacks too

This is my favourite cafe in York by far! Lovely coffee and the best grilled cheese sandwiches in York by far. Also a great selection of vinyl and CDs means I stop by as often as I can. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the food and drinks are great value for money. 5*/ 5*

Fantastic place to visit, loved the interesting music related decor and whole atmosphere of the cafe. We attended a music bingo night and had a fun time. The owners were great hosts and had put on a fab event. There is a good selection of drinks available, alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I would also highly recommend the grilled cheese sandwiches. We had the all-day breakfast and smokestack lighting sandwiches, and they were delicious.

Gorgeous live music venue with a good vibe and a lovely team where everyone feels welcome and included. The owners clearly care about the experience of folk that visit, and that care pays off. Great venue.

We only had drinks during our visit but the food others were eating looked great. The FortyFive is a fantastic café and I highly recommend it. It will definitely be my preference out of all the cafés in York on my next visit.

Just had coffee but such a fun place with walls full of photos of rock and country musicians. Nothing ‘corporate’ about this cafe. Good coffee as well.

Amazing place for anyone with a love for vinyl and music. Even if you don’t love either the atmosphere and food at this cafe is brilliant. Would definitely recommend for anyone visiting York

Veggie options but not much if you’re totally vegan. It’s cool though - we only came in for coffee which was great. 💕
