Shama in Kirklees

Not what I expected. Service quite slow and the food not great. I don’t think we will be back. Meat was tough but the staff were very friendly.

Excellent restaurant. We usually visit tge Shama in Huddersfield but decided to try this one. It was really good. Very tasty food served up by friendly staff.

Been here so many times to eat in but most recently ordered as a takeaway and it was spot on as usual. Gorgeous food and fast delivery times.

Came in early on a Friday so initially not busy. I wanted one of the chefs specials but the waiter said it would take 45 minutes or more which was annoying as it said 25 minutes on the menu - so we went for other dishes, one lamb mince and one chicken. They were both very good, as was our lemon rice and naan. The jug of lassi was delicious although mostly diners bring their own alcohol.

Ordered a Take away, items missing from the order, totally tasteless watery sauce on my dish asked for no peppers in one dish came with peppers rang up about missing items they said come back and I will have them ready for you, no offer to deliver them for us, we go regular to eat in but after this disaster and there attitude never again so we finished up cooking the rice ourselves and we had some wraps we warmed up Very disappointing

First time in tonight after a recommendation from a friend. I was not disappointed. Fresh flavours and beautifully cooked lamb. Service was great, everyone seemed to care. I found everyone proud of the food they serve. I’ll be back…

Visited recently, lovely chicken tikka masala, friendly staff. Can’t fault apart from the restaurant was a little bit cold.

i have been eating here for a long time i visited last night 24/02/23 six of us it was busy and a great relaxing atmosphere but you can hear each other talk the food was amazing i had chicken nimbali for starter a massive portion chicken saag for main not spicy which i like such wonderful flavours garlic nan dripping in ghee and garlic was amazing service great as always very clean toilets lots of parking

Really great service, all the staff were really attentive and nice. Lovely vegetarian vegetable paneer curry and such a tasty naan. Byob is a bonus and made the meal out really reasonable :)

We were welcomed even though we hadn't booked. The staff were extremely friendly and efficient. Would definitely recommend the Special Biryani, AMAZING!

We visited Shama on December 19th, 2022, and were impressed. Good (Reasonably priced - menus attached) food, and attentive staff. Complimentary coffee at the end of the meal Free WiFi (strangely, the Wifi code is only visible to one side of the restaurant). Free carpark. We will return, and we will bring friends.

Really disappointed ordered a takeaway on Sunday 13th Nov and it arrived the curry was very watery, the chips were cold stale and hard and was very disappointing for the price we paid for the takeaway. Usually it’s our go to curry place but it’s really put us off.

So disappointing!!!!! We order from Shama most weeks and usually it’s delicious but not tonight! Arrived freezing cold and soggy poppadoms .

Stale poppadoms,not a good start. Main meals very nice. Good portions,couldn't fault them. Strange service from young waitress. Didn't appreciate an expletive story about her past. Not what you expect on a night out.

Fabulous meal here last night. It was very busy so was worried it might impact service but it absolutely did not, the staff were amazing. Great food, great service and as always the staff were welcoming and attentive. Special thanks to Ash for looking after my little girl so well and putting a smile on her face 😊 Never disappointed going to Shama but set night was exceptional, thank you 👍

Travelled up from Cornwall to see family.Went there approx 2 years ago and it’s was amazing food then and even better than I remember.If any one reads this you must try this restaurant and you will not be disappointed.When I there again I hope to go there at least twice if not more.thanks to all the staff you all were amazing .Thank you very much

We had two 3 course meals and where not disappointed, even traditionals such as chicken korma are new and tasty experiences at this place. Good customer service, too. Highly recommended.

We went to the Shama for our 30th anniversary, the service and the food was excellent as always, there was 14 of us and there was not a single complaint about the food or service. Billy and his team were very attentive as per usual

We went to the Shama Restaurant in Heckmondwike last night. From start to finish it was a fantastic experience!. My husband phoned and booked a table for 6.30pm and the lady he spoke to was professional and polite.We arrived and shown to a table- waiting staff were friendly, polite and professional and very efficient. Place inside was spotless.We had for starters chicken pakoras and chicken tikka sizzler, for mains a chicken bukari and chicken tikka balti, garlic Nan and chapatis. The food was absolutely spot on!- ingredients were top quality and exactly what we wanted. My husband and I don’t like peppers or fresh bullet chillis and that request was noted, checked by the manager and completed by the chef. The manager was extremely polite and friendly and offered us free coffees after our meal. This has to be the best curry and food we have eaten in a long time- we’ll done the Shama, we will be back!!!!

The food is always top notch here. We come at least once a month and never had a bad meal. The service is great as well always such friendly staff and the owner is so lovely. Can’t recommend enough!

This was my first visit to shaama. Went with my fiancée and little girl. I was extremely impressed by the quality of food and friendly service. We will be back again soon!

Was able to have a small family birthday gathering recently. The food as always was excellent and the staff really looked after us well which has always been the case when we’ve visited. My family wholeheartedly would recommend a visit! You will not be disappointed I assure you.

Food was really nice. Very tasty and arrived within the given time. Probably the best takeaway curry I’ve had - no oil leaking through, no dry meat - everything impeccable.The fried rice is to die for. A free popadom and yoghurt came with my order too which was a nice touch.Would recommend guys - give it a try! A little bit more expensive than your average WF12/13 takeaway but definitely the definition of ‘you get what you pay for.’100% give this a try.

We visited with our daughters & partners from Rochdale & Wiltshire. Whenever they come over to stay they insist on visiting Shama. It was one of our daughters birthdays & this was her chosen place to celebrate. Absolutely beautiful food as always !!!! Weve missed you through lockdown Shama. Staff were friendly as usual.

Hands down to Shama, the masters of curry. Even now I live in Wiltshire, a trip to Shama restaurant is a must when visiting. The chicken Hydrabadi is to die for, and the lamb chops starter is just belly busting divine heaven on a plate. I’ve never left disappointed or unsatisfied, and the service has always been friendly and consistent. Get yourself to Shama! Your lucky to have it so close by.

Booked into shama with 2 friends for a meal, arrived 5 minutes early and was led to our table straight away. The service was excellent from start to finish and the food was amazing!! Will 100% definitely be going back. Thanks again shama

After spending all my years going to Akbars I'm so glad I was introduced to Shama a couple of years ago, it's by far the best chicken tikka massala I've found, perfect flavour, all the sides are spot on too. I've not found a curry like this in Newcastle yet so have to go when I visit family in Bradford! Brought my mum this time who is also a curry snob and she absolutely loved it too.Amazing service too, the waiters are so polite and helpful. Can't wait to come back!

Been to Shama a few times now with family, foods perfect every single time. Couldn’t recommend more, staff are lovely and really attentive. The manager Billy is a top bloke!!

Having only moved into the area last year, our first visit was 3 days before it shut for Lockdown. Our 2nd visit was the day after it opened last time and last night we went straight back. Greeted as always by Billy who looked like he'd missed everyone. The food is honestly second to none! We have been to quite a few big name Indian restaurants around Leeds/Bradford and Sharma beats them all! The service was fantastic and friendly even on a busy Friday night. The food was amazing, plentiful and filling. Can safely say this will will become a very regular place for us. Thanks guys.

A very long time ago, during a deep discussion of the finest local Indian takeaways, my driving instructor suggested I try a chicken hydrabadi. As I was young and afraid of new things, I never did get round to trying it and stubbornly stuck with a Karahi or a garlic balti. I visited the Shama for the first time this evening, and on my first outdoor excursion since boris locked us up I decided to be brave and order the fabled hydrabadi. I never knew I liked coriander until now. I never imagined the hydrabadi could taste as wonderful as it was described to me many years ago as I ground a gearbox to within an inch of its life round Batley Carr. I was wrong. Venture to the Shama as soon as humanly possible and order the hydrabadi. Don’t wait ten years and regret it like I did.

The food was amazing and the staff was really attentive and couldn’t do enough for you, asking if everything was okay, will definitely be returning!

First time ordering here and the food at first was okay but the Khari meat was tough and Bombay Aloo was cold so I called the restaurant to tell them and they apologised and said they would another order out. Excellent service and honestly was so much better the food was amazing. Thank you so much will definitely be ordering again.

I left a poor review of the Shama back in October having had several disappointing takeaways. I was contacted by the Shama the following day who apologised so sincerely for the failing of their usual high standards.I have continued to order several takeaways since this time and have to say things have got better and better, culminating in last nights meal which was probably one of the best Indian meals I have ever had.Well done Shama. Your food is amazing.

Havent been in a very long time especially during the pandemic as i was quiet cautious from where to eat and where not to eat. I had no idea how the system was placed in restaurants as some have different layouts in place, some restaurants you go to have face screens and some face masks as i get agitated because they’re dealing with other customers however tonight was amazing not only the worker’s had face masks but the service which i received from the two gents ziggy and mobz (i believe thats their names {can’t remember}) was absolutely amazing.I usually get takeout from places especially from here as the quality and the service is just perfect but today i realised how it felt eating in a restaurant as the food was perfect, i have to give it to the chef who made a beautiful dish. I SHALL BE BACK!!!!!!

Excellent meal and service my only fault there was majority of staff not wearing masks appropriately most wearing just over their mouth not nose and some not over either mouth or nose as we about to go into tier three disappointed thought all staff in the hospitality buissiness would av been educated better

I have been a regular customer of Shama for many years now. I usually would eat in but at the moment we are being very cautious and are ordering takeaways.On three separate occasions the starters I have received are completely dried out.Tonight we ordered onion bhaji, shami kebabs and vegetable samosas as starters. All were completely died out and inedible. They actually went straight in the bin.We have never had anything like this while dining in the restaurant and would expect the same high quality from takeaways. I ordered online and in the comments section asked that they ensure the starters were freshly made. That certainly didn't work.I will never order another takeaway from Shama which is a real shame. May try the restaurant again when this Covid thing ends.

Would t go anywhere else!! Food absolutely amazing!!My husband tries dif a lot ( think done menu nearly now tbh) and never ever once not enjoyed Staff make our night as got to know them well they r fab+ with Covid goin on they doing a great job to keep everyone safe !!!

Top quality food and customer service. We live in Morley and we are spoilt for choice with curry houses. Shama are one of the best. Not in just Morley but Yorkshire and probably beyond. I grew up in Bradford and always had a taste for authentic desi curry. Shama are exceptional every time. We use the delivery service very often and even though the prices are higher than a usual takeaway the quality is second to none. We pay the extra delivery charge as the food is that good. Once, we did have a small problem where I contacted the restaurant directly and their customer service skills were excellent. Curly contacted us and sorted out the problem 110% better than what we expected. Faultless. I will continue to share with my friends and family just how good Shama is as a restaurant and as a business and even my parents from Selby now get a Shama to take home with them when they’re over here as they are THAT good. We are now loyal customers.

Not been to the Shama for a few years but we'll definitely try and get there again soon. The food was really really good, the staff were lovely, prices reasonable and a nice Saturday night atmosphere. All in all a lovely evening, we'll be back.

Tried so many curry houses over the years. Originally from Bradford and now living in Leeds we’re spoilt for choice for curry houses. Shama is absolutely top quality. The flavours and ingredients in the curries, matched together with the freshness is just unbeatable. Just absolutely fab tasting curries. Excellent. Keep it up

Been to the restaurant a while ago and it was amazing but didn't get chance to go back. Moved to area recently and have been disappointed with Indian takeaways in area so thought I would try Shamas takeaway and I'm glad I did. Tasted beautiful and fresh. Lovely staff upon pick up. I recommend the butter chicken as its out of this world but my partner who had an extra spicy madras absolutely loved his too so no matter your preference im sure you'll love it. Also, Great value for a restaurant takeaway!

First time back since covid. The food was just as good as always! The waiting staff Mobeen & Ziggy were fab too! Best thing about the evening was not having to look at Billys face due to his mask. Shame it wasn’t a muzzle though...🤣

been coming to this curry house for about 7 years now , never been disappointed with the food or the service. we can`t wait for it to open as normal, got to say a bit puzzled by some of the negative reviews, no negatives from us only positives, great manager and waiters especially wee CURLY, go on give it a try , you wont be disappointed.

I ordered the keema khari, as I do normally and we thought we would try somewhere new, would not recommend this dish as I'm not even sure what I got. It could only be described as dry mince with no curry sauce at all, sat on a bed of oil with peas and potatoes thrown in and no flavour what so ever...bit of a shame as there's so many good reviews.

This is the best curry in West Yorkshire. I LOVE a Meat Madras with Potato & Spinach. The Chapatis are so soft & thin. The guys are super friendly there and always deliver on time. The sitting in for a curry is also a wonderful experience. Top Notch!

Just decided last minute to go this evening.Waited to order service a little slow but overall a good experience.Waiter very knowledgeable and made good suggestions. Food came piping hot and presented very nice. Please stop giving red roses to all the ladies. What a waste.

Had the best time i could ever ask for the food was well presented well cooked to perfection the starters were mouth watering delicious and was gone in seconds the service was quicker than a blink of an eye and i hope to visit again the waiters were well respectful and all credits the young lad daniyal who welcomed us and made us feel as if we was sat at home on the dining table . I hope this goodness continues in the restraunt and i hope to come again what a 10/10 place

Called in on chance as we were passing through the area. We were not disappointed. Pops and pickles to begin, sizzling starter each and a mains each. My wife had a soft drink and I took a beer. We paid just under £39 what a bargain for such great food.This is a really nice restaurant, good atmosphere and clean, the staff were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be booking for another Shama experience.

Phoned this place for a meal for delivery, when the order arrived we were missing a chicken tikka bhuna. It will be with you in ten minutes was the reply which fair enough it was. I ate the second curry that arrived and i kid you not I've never felt so poorly for a long time, i was throwing up all night till 4.30am and didn't start feeling better until around 9pm the night after. I get the feeling that because they have had to send a second curry out someone has tampered with the meal and put something in my curry. I will warn people now that after last night's experience i personally will never order anything from shama Heckmondwike again, and if anybody else experiences the same problem i had, i would have no hesitation in backing them up and naming and shaming this shambles of a restaurant.

We dont get here as often as we like since life gets busy, but when we do get to meet for a girly catch up we aren't disappointed. The staff are warm and welcoming and regardless of how much time has passed, remember small details and cant do enough for us. The food is always beautiful and Ziggy especially tonight couldn't do enough for us even insisting we had complimentary coffee to extend our catch up until late!

I’ve just come home from our local restaurant. I’m so full and have even got a goody bag for lunch tomorrow so a win win. It’s become a bit of a routine for my friend and I to meet up for a good natter and even better food. Where shall we go we say... why do we bother asking each other! The place has a lovely atmosphere made even better by the staff there. It’s always nice to be welcomed back. Today we were served by Ziggy who was attentive and friendly. We've been to Sharma a few times now and have never failed to be impressed. The staff are friendly, the food is delicious and it's really good value.

Came on a busy Saturday night, our waiter Ziggy gave exceptional service, nothing was too much for him, an asset to the business. Food was spectacular I had the chicken nambli sizzler. Will definitely come back again and recommend to family and friends.

Second visit for my birthday and once again the staff are excellant, nothing too much for them. Our table waiter Ziggy is a very helpful guy,my wife isn't the greatest curry eater (only had an omelette last time) but this year she's braving having a Chicken Tikka Masala and Ziggy has specifically asked the chef to make it especially mild for her. For myself I've eaten curries since childhood so can take them as hot as they come. Busy in the restaurant for a Thursday but the staff are all courteous and attentive. Can't speak any higher for them. A great place which we'll come to again and again
