Such a lovely dinner with the family for our dads birthday food was lovely highly recommend!

We are regulars here as the curry’s is always excellent. Unfortuately some of our take away recently was cold and the meat was not as good quality as usually is. Poppadums where also light brown and had a bitter taste- think slightly over cooked. We have noticed few times previously that dishes need reheating once we got home but flavour was still good and not a huge deal. We will return as it’s still the best in the area, just hope that recent experience was just a one off

We visited on a Saturday lunchtime, and we were the only customers while we were there, but we didn’t mind. Our waiter was excellent, very friendly and professional. The food was great, loved it all. Would definitely return. Thank you.

Excellent restaurant and takeaway. Dishes can be tailor made to your taste in heat. Staff are friendly, helpful and efficient and are willing to explain dishes. Well worth a visit. It was recommended to us, which was why we tried it. No regrets whatsoever. We all left very satisfied.

Came here for dinner with friends. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Food was nice. Drinks are on the expensive side here so watch for prices of drinks. Sign on door that they take Amex but when it came to paying we couldn't pay by Amex which was a letdown for me. All in all a nice experience but costs n payment type could be improved.

Had a nice Naga curry but the onion baghee was poor by comparison which did not attract a mint sauce automatically, weird.

Had a collection.was told a specific time to collect.. collected at that time and when I got home the food was stone cold,so it had obviously been sat there for some time. Cold curry and rice isnt appetising so it got binned.Not impressed and won't be returning.

I had a chicken tikka dansak and the texture of the chicken was rubbery. It didn't taste like 100% chicken breast. It was very disappointing. The poppadoms and free chutney was the best bit about my meal.

Was a little disappointed we ate here Saturday night ,there was 9 of us booked in for 8pm,service very slow and food was not very hot which is disappointing for time we waited , feel it was not up to its normal standards booked in for 8pm didn't get main meal to 9.30 which with older people it's was to late. And restaurant was almost empty by 8.30 ....takeaways shouldn't take priority!!!!

Came here with my partner and her parents. We pre booked and sat in a lovely little booth. The restaurant itself was lovely inside. The owners have spared no expense and it shows. My in-laws have had a takeaway from this restaurant before and they weren’t particularly impressed. As our preferred restaurant was fully booked we decided to give Shalimar a chance. Sometimes a restaurant can be better when eating in. Going by the reviews it appears to be the case here. The poppadoms where still hot and very nice. The dips that came with it were also lovely. Especially the lime pickle and mango chutney. Our mains were all lovely. We had a chicken biriani, lamb jalfrezi, chicken tikka masala, chicken tikka jalfrezi, keema nans, onion bhajis and each ordered pilau rice. Everything was delicious but we had a rice missing. We made do as we didn’t really miss it and thought it would probably have been missed by the waiter. That wasn’t the case and it was included in our bill. The only reason I gave 4 stars was for that and nothing else whatsoever

Consistent quality, service is generally very good, but they are popular and at peak times it gets very busy. Best in town!

Nice atmosphere, good food, great service group of 12 of us for a birthday and no problems or complaints waitress erin was really welcoming and friendly and happy offered to take group photo when seeing us try to get one and suggesting meals on menu and offering drinks through out meal but not too over often which you find alot in resturants when bringing out the cake made a nice effort - will definitly visit again we come up from fratton portsmouth as a friend recommended and was defo worth the lil car journey thank you

Waited approx 50 mins for mains to come, had to ask for it or don't think we would have got it. Chairs were very heavy to pull under the table and stuck to floor after being sat for a while. Carpet was very sticky. Food was OK, nothing to right home about.

We have eaten a few times here now. every time the food has been spot on. average wait time for decent food we have experienced. staff very friendly and attentive. We haven't tried as a take away but we enjoy the service and food so would only dine in.

Had a table of 16 had a long wait for drinks as restaurant is busy with inside and take aways also waited over hour for main food and some said slightly warm but nice in taste .felt maybe over booked for amount of staff as several others had waited a long time for service .this was a Friday night and is a very popular venue .

Great new years meal, with excellent customer service

Pretty average to be fair. Saturday evening takeaway. We ordered a couple of starters , a main dish , rice and bread. 20mins late coming out kitchen, poor customer relations (ie multiple people walking in without being acknowledged Inc me) , food barely hot once home and I only luce around the corner. 6/10. Shalimar is not what it use to be. Shame really as ive been going here for about 25 years and this isn't the first in the last year I have had this experience. I feel its just an average Indian restaurant / takeaway, nothing special.

Having had a number of takeaways from here before which have been good, last night's was very disappointing. All the dishes were very bland, the garlic naan was stone cold. The Balti sauce was an unusual consistency and not rich in flavour. Also there was no naan bread supplied with that as per the menu. The Biriani only had 3 pieces of chicken. I would not go back.

Long wait for everything from taking orders, to being served. Food is just ok, not terrible, but not great.

Table booked for 8pm but when we arrived no table available and the restaurant was over run. Ordered drinks while we waited but these didn't arrive after 15 mins waiting for drinks and no visible sign of a table becoming available we left and went to a lovely restaurant elsewhere in the area. Will definitely not be back to the shalimar anytime soon.

Service was good nice advice about mixture of food to share. The food was good quality and portions were good size and all meats were cooked and seasoned well. Very enjoyable!

The best curry in Hampshire. Have been coming here for over 20 years now. Never fails to disappoint. The food and service is fantastic. I wish the venue was larger with more parking as that can be an issue in peak times.

Shame you have to leave a star to write a review as this place don't deserve a single star. Had food to take away and it was freezing cold. Rice was like it had been cooked a long time ago and left sitting somewhere, curry was so cold it had started to congeal. Only edible thing was a bhaji, but this was also cold. I live a 2 minute drive from the restaurant so distance was not the issue. Poppadoms were stale and starting to become bendy rather than crisp, naan was oily, and you guessed it, cold! Very disappointed as local people spoke highly of the place. Called to let the restaurant know about the cold food, they couldn't seem to care less. No refund offered, we shouldn't have to ask to be refunded if the food is unsatisfactory. I would gladly have given the food back if they would have liked. Won't be back so thanks for reassuring us the food will be warm next time! Avoid avoid avoid.

I loved the restaurant, the service was great and the food was wonderful. I wanted them to move to Birmingham and said i would be their best customer. Can't wait to go there again.

What a place for an evening impromptu evening out. Used as a takeaway many a time and have dined here before but not realised jist how much better it is to eat in. Place was packed which is a great sign in this day amd age. Thourougly enjoyed it.

Visited here on a Saturday night , place was very busy, but we had booked. Food was very good, but service was a little slow, we had to wait upto 20 minutes between be given menus and our order being taken

Will never go anywhere else since finding this gem. The food is well above anywhere else. The bonus is that the staff are amazing and it's in a well decorated building to give a great atmosphere.

All food was cold lamb was horrible and poppadoms were soft, wrong sauce also given, poor first experience

My partner and myself had dinner in this wonderful place last night. It was a busy night as it's such a spacious venue. We both found the restaurant, Very relaxing, welcoming and it is beautifully decorated. The staff were always attentive, friendly and very caring about our needs. We would like to congratulate you all especially the chef as we both love our meal. It was very difficult to choose from such a varied menu. I particularly loved the tandoori king prawns which were very flavoursome. The best one tasted. Thank you so much. Keep up the good work. We will be back for more.

Staff although very friendly they took a long time to take any orders, although we were a last minute table of 8 we had a lot of time sitting around, it took a while to get some drinks also, i mostly ordered drinks at the bar because we didnt have a waitress/ter come round if at all, we had ordered our poppadoms twice as first order was forgotten. Meals were okay. Everyone was relatively happy. The only mistake was the only prawn dish being mine came out as chicken instead, which, although not the end of the world, was slightly annoying. Bill at the end, yes we paid in chunks and I paid for whatever was left, we paid and on reflection my portion of the bill seems particularly high and that is because I was over charged by £18. This could have been a simple mistake and I have messaged the restaurant in regards to this, but I have yet to receive a response.

Lovely takeaway experience and great customer service.all food was pipping hot and cooked to perfection and all with good sized portions. Both the chicken tikka Marsala and the chicken tikka Bhoona were spot on with just the right amount of chicken and sauce,Onion Bhajis were top notch and so was the pila rice.The next step now will be to eat in the restaurant and after such an enjoyable takeaway I am very much looking forward to this.

Good food, good service and friendly atmosphere, popular so booking ahead is very advisable. Have used for takeaway before, and quality is excellent. (Collected in person). Parking is limited though so use a taxi and have a few cold beers as well!!

Moved back into the area 2 years ago and heard mixed reviews so decided to try ourselves! The first 2 visits were excellent and could not fault the service or food! Next visit waited an hr and a half for our food....decided to give them another go tonight...arrived at 6.45pm for our booking (had booked for 7pm but had a phone call asking if we could make earlier) on being seated we could hear a commotion coming from the kitchen and the couple next to us who had a better view said curry had been thrown! 2 members of staff then left the building. We left before our drinks arrived. Sort it out Shalimar you had a good reputation which you are in danger of losing due to your bad management and customer service. We would love visit again if the management could get this restaurant back to where it was and should be.

Always had great service and food until tonight...waited 1hr 20mins for food..service great but wait was not acceptable hot plates came but were cold when food came and food not hot asked for mint sauce which thought was included with the the tikka biriani and after asking it never came..Shalimar you disappointed which was such a shame

The food was lovely but the service is atrocious. We were ignored for the first 10 minutes of arriving at the restaurant and then had to wait for a table that had been booked. It was busy, However there didn’t seem enough staff for the amount of people, and the takeaway seemed to take precedence. Being served an hour later was irritating beyond belief. Don’t get me wrong the food was lovely but the service and speed of delivery was abominable.

Best Indian Restaurant in the South

Excellent curry house, the Curry’s are really nice and tasty. I have been to quite a few curry houses and have to say this one does the second best naans I have ever had. They are nice and crispy but also a little bit fluffy and not too doughy. Staff are really friendly and pleasant. It’s similarly priced to most curry houses, however it’s actually worth the value for money unlike other curry houses which serve dodgy and usually tasteless curries. One thing to note is it gets very busy on a Friday and Saturday night so I highly recommend booking a table at least a week if you want to be eating 7-7:30. I have had one disappointing experience where we booked a table for 8pm and when we arrived the queue was out the door with several people still waiting to be seated, this shouldn’t be the case if you have booked... Regardless of the one bad experience it’s a lovely place to go with families, as a couple and they also cater for larger party groups. There is parking outside along the road, however on the busy Friday and Saturday nights it can be tricky to find places to park but The Falcon Pub always has a couple of spaces if needed.

Have not been to the Shalimar for a while so we got round to going recently and we were not disappointed Nice atmosphere, good service, great food with a great selection and all at reasonable prices

Absolutely love this place. My husband and I come here every week nearly! Their food is absolutely stunning and the staff are amazing. Very friendly and always remember our drinks order. I wouldn’t go anywhere else for an Indian. Tasty, authentic and a lovely atmosphere.

A fantastic meal was had by all, can't fault the chefs brilliance of combining herbs and spices with chicken to tantalise our taste buds.

Delicious food - especially the saag aloo. Staff very friendly and helpful. The service was a little slow but we could see they were very busy. Would definitely go again and recommend.

Had a lovely meal on a Sunday lunch. Very quiet, we were the only people sitting in. The meal was fantastic as always but after the meal we had coffee and it was instant coffee. Very poor after the meal, a shame. I can assure you on Sunday lunchtime it was instant coffee. I could see the coffee machine from where we were sat and it was not powered on. The bottom jug was full of water. It was ready for the evening but not used lunchtime.

We haven’t been for a while but our daughter chose to come for her birthday (last minute almost). It was busy with bookings being a Friday but the team was very accommodating and managed to get us a table earlier than expected. Glad to see service standards have been maintained since our last visit with a warm welcome, a friendly service (especially I think from the manager who has always been like this - I just feel embarrassed for still not knowing his name after coming here for 16 years!). Food always well served, tasting great and always leaves us statisfied.

We went for a birthday meal this evening, and everything was second to none, the service especially. The staff were so attentive and accommodating - we had two babies with us and they were so friendly and helpful; making sure we had room, showing where I could change my baby, offering to wash dropped dummies for us, and allowing a bowl of hot water to warm baby food. The food was lovely too, I highly recommend the prawn puri starter and the biryani 😋 delish. A fab evening all round, and to top it off, our birthday boy was even treated to a surprise duo of shots! Get my takeaway every weekend from here, staff always very efficient and really friendly,always made welcome and recognised when I walk in, food is excellent and they always remember my large cobra whilst in waiting Highly recommended.

I've recently just moved to Waterlooville, I've been driving pass this restaurant with such big noticeable sign you cant miss it and I've  always wondered what the food taste like since it seems to get pretty packed on the weekends so I had a date last night and we fancied some curry so we popped in on the way home and asked for a menu. The waiter at the front was very nice and polite and handed us a menu and within seconds of giving us a menu this other guy who I like to call rude guy with beard came out of no where and goes Go sit in the corner  come back when you're  ready to order don't stand here go go I just felt like he didn't want us in the view of his "white" customers for whatever reason and because we're black we needed to be kept out of view in the corner. that's exactly how it felt I have to say I was well disappointed and on top of that the food was really disappointing  the lamb naga tasted not spicy at all and the korma looked a funny pale colour and rice was ok but not fresh The best thing out of the order was probably the poppadoms Very disappointed and will not be going back

Not had a takeaway from here for a few years.. Now I remember why, food was so bland lacked any sort or flavour korma and lamb curry very watery (had tastier Indian food from a supermarket) naan sizes laughable the garlic chilli cheese naan lacked all three ingredients in-fact I couldn’t see any cheese at all and had a slight whiff of garlic…Wasted £35 won’t be returning.

Booked for 8 .15 waited half an hour .then waited hour for food .

The service and food here is amazing .. highly recommend! We would choose this restaurant every time!

Have used the Shalimar quite a bit over the years but was disappointed with the food this time, my husband and I both had lamb dishes but different lamb dishes however they tasted the same, not what it used to be sadly.
