Great breakfast, great service !!!! Visit this place just about weekly now after doing our shop. Food is cooked nice and fresh and hot ! The only thing I would like to see would be a coffee machine rather than instant, but does not take anything away from this lovely breakfast place on the A30

This transport cafe has been in existence, in the same spot, unchanged for over 50 years that I know of. I popped in for a spot of lunch. Nice staff, good traditional transport cafe fare, and BIG portions. I had breakfast #2, it was too much to eat. A pile of fried bread served separate to a big plate with 2 sausages, 2 fried eggs, mushrooms, 2 rashers of back bacon, and grilled fresh tomato (tinned also available). I opted for just tomato and no baked beans.

Finally venturing to places now lockdown is over and while planning a sunday morning motorbike rideout with some friends, I thought we'd go to the Shack cafe as I'd not been there before. My 1st review in quite some time so thought I'd share my experience. We sat outside and was taken care of quickly, making the service helpful, friendly, polite, thus, Great. Food was smashing. Don't let the transport cafe aesthetic fool you. Top notch. Been there again since as my mate wanted to eat there again, never a bad idea. Will visit again

We decided to try out one of our local cafes for a late breakfast/early lunch so we choose the Shack Cafe, what an excellent choice it was. The Shack Cafe is truly a proper old style English cafe providing real home style English cafe food. I opted for an all day breakfast, 2 Sausages, 2 Bacon, 2 Eggs, Tomatoes, Beans, Mushrooms, Chips and Two slices of bread and butter with a cup of tea and free refill. Excellently well cooked and very tasty all for £7.00, really an excellent deal. My wife and daughter also had great value meals. Will certainly come back again soon.

Can not praise this place enough, Laura and her girls do a awesome job. We have become regular visitors, and after a bad round of golf they are definitely a light at the end off the tunnel, always so happy, and nothing is too much trouble. They do the best poached eggs, have paid twice the price at other places, and they are not a patch on the shacks. Well done girls and thank you 🙌🙌🙌🙌

I was first told to go to the Shack about seven years ago, I finally went and I loved it! It's a unique little place, I think if you had a spirit level you wouldn't find an even surface, but that all adds to its charm. Friendly welcome and a proper fry up, just how it should be. If I lived closer I'd be in there every weekend!

As regular weekend visitors to Hook we've been in here quite a few times now. This is a proper "old fashioned" cafe and I mean that as a compliment! In a nutshell the food is excellent, the prices are very fair, the service is good and there is usualy a nice atmosphere. The lady who runs the cafe should have a special mention too. I went in there by myself a few months ago by myself and must have looked down in the dumps, which I was. Well she came over for a chat and I even had a cuppa on the house! Looking forward to our next visit!

Grade 2 listed shack that has been serving traditional British food to the traveller for decades. Good food at reasonable prices, full English breakfast £5.60. Menu from sandwiches to main meals served from 7am to 3pm. Friends an I meet here before or after golf on a regular basis. Very popular with the local community and passing traveller. My parents used to stop there enroute to Cornwall years before the M3 opened. Highly recommended traditional transport cafe.

We stopped off at the Shack for brunch /early lunch and chose breakfast meals. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. There's no pretence here - what you see is what you get. Service is good and quick and food is cooked to order and hot. Sausages are a little plastic but acceptable. Additional cup of tea is offered free of charge. A little over priced for the portion size but won't stop me visiting again - I like the atmosphere? Might try the Eggs Benedict next time :-D

Ordered the ‘number 1’ breakfast which consisted of fried egg, sausage, one rasher of bacon, my choice of beans over tomato, mushrooms, my choice of toast over bread and my choice of tea over coffee. The tea was served in a cracked mug and full to the brim with the tea bag and milk all in at the same time. When the breakfast arrived, the sausage was of the kind which are precooked then placed in a deep fat frier to reheat and was tasteless and greasy. The egg was swimming in oil and the mushrooms had also been either deep or shallow fried and therefore had absorbed a lot of fat. I understand that this is a ‘no nonsense cafe’ as some have described it, but for £5.30 I just think they could do a bit better. To cap it off, I had to change tables from my original seating as it had not been cleaned and had salt and grease all over the table cloth.

This place has been there for years, it is a proper truckers cafe that is welcoming to everyone. The food is good, the portions big and you get a proper mug tea/coffee. Apart from the full english, they also serve other "posher" types of breakfast, basically you can have pretty much what ever you ask for, they will try and accommodate. Always served with a smile, always friendly and fast delivery. It is always busy, but worth a visit.

I stopped at this transport cafe recently, as it had started raining and I wanted to see if the food was as good as when I'd eaten here some years before. I'm pleased to report it was, if not even better than I remembered.I had the Breakfast #2 which was 2x bacon, 2x sausage, 2x fried egg, with beans, tomatoes and mushroom. This was topped off with 2x slices of toast and a cup of tea. At 6.50 I thought this was good value, especially when the staff were polite and friendly, and not only that, the food arrived quickly and was perfectly cooked. Free newspapers were available for customers too.The name is apt, as it really is a shack, situated next to a storage site for fairground rides, but it was very clean and I can report after a peek into the kitchen area, that was spotless. This isn't fine dining, but if you enjoy a first-class traditional cooked English Breakfast, then the Shack Cafe is highly recommended !

Just had the Sunday roast carvery. It's under new ownership, only opened this week and it was amazing. With a choice of 4 meats and wide variety veg, lots of different accompaniments you really feel spoilt The roast potatoes are crispy and Yorkshire puddings are perfect. The staff are friendly and attentive and the pub had a lovely atmosphere, very cosy🤩 They are a tapas bar on Monday -Saturday, carvery on a Sunday. We can't wait to come back to try the tapas!

If I could give 0 I would. We had no running water in our room. I called reception and asked for help, they said they had no maintenance help and there was a wedding on and they couldn’t help us, but to email in and get a refund. So that’s what I did. It’s been a year of me constantly asking for the refund I was promised. They have said they’ll give me £25 but nothing more as they have no evidence of this promised refund (I called from the hotel room). £180 I spent on a nights stay in a freezing cold room with an uncomfortable bed and NO RUNNING WATER. The customer service is shocking, seems they only care about weddings.

The Bel & Dragon is a great little spot if you’re looking for a laid-back yet stylish place to grab a drink. The vibe is relaxed, with a mix of cozy, rustic charm and modern touches that make it feel both welcoming and a bit special. The staff are friendly and know their stuff, so if you’re not sure what to order, they’ll happily point you in the right direction.
