I had a chicken salad, croutons were so greasy and the chicken was slimy and tough. To top it off I had a bug crawling around in it 🤢 returned it to the bar and they didn’t have much to say and didn’t offer a refund or money off. My friend had a chicken pizza and again, the chicken was slimy and tough. The pizza was dripping with grease… she couldn’t finish it. They didn’t come and clear our plates and we were there for quite some time. We definitely won’t be returning which is a shame as it could be an amazing Restaraunt as the setting is lovely and the views are beautiful.

Horrific ANPR controlled parking which runs from entry to the car park, not from obtaining your ticket. Will avoid like the plague in future as sick to death of being fleeced by venues that have outsourced their parking to raise revenue. So the parking company has made £100 and guaranteed we will avoid in Pentewan in future.

We visited this evening and the food wasn’t pleasant at all. We can only think that others that have been have just not given any feedback and left the leftovers to the seagulls. The base sauce for all the ‘tomato’ pastas/pizzas is florescent orange, and doesn’t taste anything like a tomato. The kids meatballs don’t come with any pasta. The ‘tomato sauce’ pasta was watery and the bolognaise came with the smallest amount of meat we have ever seen. Will try and upload a photo. On top of that, we were waiting over half an hour for 2 children’s meals they had forgotten, which of course went down terribly with hungry children. When they came, the kids tried them and didn’t eat them as they said they weren’t nice. We tried them, and they were totally tasteless, except for the kid’s meatballs (without any pasta) and they tasted so strongly of mint the kids (and us) obviously didn’t like them. The young staff at the counter had no idea about gluten free options, and really didn’t seem to care about customer service, or take notice as to who is next in a queue. The seagulls were very welcome to all the leftovers that no one came to take while we were sat there finishing our drinks. The outside area is lovely with a great view, and Pentewan Sands itself is a very lovely place. The Hub Box beach bar is expensive but delicious (burgers don’t come with fries), and the fish and chip shop Pentewan Plaice was okay too. We cannot understand what has gone wrong with the Seahorse restaurant and why the food was of such poor standard compared to the rest of the resort.

Will keep it brief, ordered 3 roast chicken dinners amongst other things, one was served raw, with blood on the plate and the other two were undercooked. The most worrying thing was the chef (who would not come out to see us) communicating with the bar staff said it was okay and it should be like that. I contacted the park using the review they requested, been over a month now and not heard a dicky bird, so they are not very concerned it seems, I will now see if Trading Standards are interested. It's a shame as it's a lovely park (with no dogs) and we will visit again, but will never eat in the Sea Horse even if it were free!! Lastly, it was not roast chicken, more microwaved.

Murky overcrowded pool, at £12.50 for an adult and one child, and then car parking charges on top, far too expensive. No opportunity to even swim a few strokes due to almost standing room in the main pool. Changing rooms humid and changing cubicle floors wet. I suspect a lack of staff contributing to feeling neglected/ under cleaned. And change the pool water. What's with such poor murky green water?

Had vegan fish and chips to take away. Have been looking forward to this for absolutely ages as I was very impressed to see that the Seahorse did provide this vegan dish which I had once in a vegan restaurant in Truro and absolutely loved. I was asked if I wanted small portions but I elected for normal size….which were huge. And the takeaway for two cost £30. But it was awful. We hate and almost never waste food but my husband threw half of his away, chips were mediocre and the vegan fish was oily and, well, unpleasant.

Ok service, small portions for price and slow service but the worst part is the car park con that they have going on with Llanroc parking. Paid correct fee but due to heavy rain/wind and my disabled daughter getting wet I did not check the ticket. Came back within the time slot I paid for to a ticket and fine. Ticket had only printed £1 paid despite £3 being paid. I totally accept I should have checked the ticket - I usually do. Then I would have only lost £3 rather than £62 Tried to appeal and explain what happened but they ignored and have continued with the fine. High price for a mediocre meal. Check your parking tickets carefully - don’t trust what it says on the screen. Money making con.

The roast here was really good and the First Lady that served us was really friendly and professional ( older, curly hair). However, she left and the meal went downhill from there on. The restaurant was quiet so no excuse for poor service. Not only was it painfully slow, we had to ask for our plates to be cleared after they sat there for a considerable time. We then had to wait while the table was cleared to order desserts. They brought the children’s ice cream out without spoons or wafers. On paying, I left a small tip and said to the waitress that we would have left a good tip but that the service had been incredibly slow. Sarcastically she said, oh sorry about that, then added , enjoy the rest of your day, whilst another member of staff shouted it afterwards. The boys behind the bar were really good but the two girls were really rude and lazy. One of them was on their phone and the other just sloppy and unfriendly. Had the service been the same level as the food we would recommend but definitely wouldn’t go back.

Visited the restaurant on three occasions during my stay at Pentewan sands. Once for breakfast and twice for dinner. On all three occasions the quality of food was good and portion sizes were generous however on all occasions the experience was overshadowed by extremely bad customer service, the place is obviously understaffed and as a result of this the service is extremely poor. No obvious manager is present, seems to be run by headless chickens with no experience. Some staff members clearly don't want to work there governed by the continuous dirty looks given and huff and puffs after each request. Drinks took forever to come and seemed to be just left on the side for a long time. On one occasion my husband was waiting so long he just went and collected the tray himself whilst waiters just stood talking. Such a shame as the restaurant could do so well. But was practically empty every time we arrived. If the customer service was better we would have used the restaurant a lot more during our stay.

We had a large group come for dinner with the restaurant, we pre ordered all of our meals. we had a lot of issues with our food and long wait times between meals leaving some of our party without food for over 20 minutes. The staff present were very helpful and did everything they could to sort the issues. There wasn’t many staff on site and we were told that a manager was not onsite all evening and that they only had one chef and 3 servers. The staff had a really hard time providing for us and the other tables present. The staff shortage was so bad that the security guard was waiting tables to help them out. I believe the owners really need to get on top of this. Also shocked to find out that any tip you leave on card payment doesn’t go to the staff. This is horrific and needs to be addressed because they worked very hard to accommodate us.

The Seahorse has drastically changed and not for the better. Prior to covid, the food was really lovely, an excellent menu, family friendly, great gluten free options ... legendary jacket potatoes! But now, sadly in trying to turn it into an upmarket dining experience the food has gone downhill, the menu is poor, the atmosphere unwelcoming and there is no childrens menu which feels like families aren't welcome anymore. The service is slow and the staff are woefully trained on allergens. The campsite is very busy this weekend but the Seahorse at lunchtime was not, which sums it up. Covid did a lot of damage to restaurants but the Seahorse current business plan and operating model just can't be the way to keep it afloat long term. Such a shame.

Disappointed visit - we visited without booking in half term in an evening and the restaurant was empty but strangely full of reserved signs so we assume was pre-booked Staff were perturbed we hadn’t booked but found us a table with some huffing Menu isn’t what we expected for a camp site restaurant - but we were excited for the high quality sounding food with a matching high price tag so thought we had under estimated the restaurant Unfortunately not for the Mussels and Brisket specials were inedible - the quality and over cooking / left under a warmer possibly made the food unappetising and rubbery The waitress did offer to replace all the dishes which couldn’t be eaten but some of our party were fed up and didn’t want to wait for more food to be cooked Others had steaks which were well cooked and they enjoyed When we raised at the end of the night the full charges for the briskets and mussels which were returned and binned we were shocked with the response that we were offered a replacement which was refused so still had to pay for food not eaten - the waitress went away and spoke to her manager then informed us she we couldn’t see the manager as she was the manager then got incredibly defensive & rude Eventually the only compromise was she knocked off some of the drinks but made us pay for all the food or the chef wouldn’t like it We won’t return and we’re seriously disappointed with the food and service but on reflection in a totally full camp site with an empty restaurant we should of realised not to go there

Wedding Reception/evening doWe held our wedding reception and evening do at the seahorse on 11th September 2021. Sarah (the manager) was amazing and ensured that everything ran smoothly for us, from the minute we arrived to the moment that we left (even saving us with the wedding cake, on the day, as the one that we had delivered direct, could not be used ). All of the staff were professional polite and smiling. Martyn the chef did a fantastic job with the buffet which went down really well, and did us proud, nobody went home hungry that’s for sure. Don’t hesitate to book this venue, with its stunning views, lovely interior , professional staff, gorgeous food and a good sized car park. Also has a lift for disabled access which was important for some of our guests. Thank you once again Sarah and Martyn to you and all of your Staff at the Seahorse Pentewan. Positives first! The entertainment is good fun and the security people are very friendly and helpful. On our first night we ate at the seahorse and agreed that would be a one off! There was one salmon left (we wanted two), pizzas looked like frozen ones, soup could not be served before mains (and tasted very blunt), burgers were simply BAD (both the pulled pork one and the cheese burger) and milkshakes were so runny they were like milk with a splash of flavoured sauce in. They did not serve hot drinks when asked, due to maintenance on machines. On that first night one of the ladies toilets was completely clogged up with poo and paper all through the night, so either none of the staff went in there to clean all night or they did and decided they couldn’t do anything about it. Which would have been the better out of the two evil, but then the door should be closed with a note on it, stating it was out of order. We’ve been there 4 nights for the entertainment. Tables are DISGUSTING and cleaned as you ask for it. Cleaned is not the right word though as they spray stuff on them and wipe parts down. There is always spots of sticky stuff/sauces/drinks etc left on them. Menus we don’t touch without giving them a good clean with a wet wipe as they are usually lying in puddles of this and that and not wiped down by staff as they “clean” the tables. We tried coffee again to be told they didn’t offer coffees after a certain time! Which was a huge letdown as we had two adults in the group that were not on alcohol but wanted something else than sugary drinks or water.

We returned another day for the Junior disco which our little person really enjoyed. Disco is free and there is also a very good 2 storey soft play. The swimming pool was great, warm and designed for families, but the changing room was dire. There were not enough cubicles available (communal so you need a cubicle) there was a nappy left on the floor of one of the cubicles, dirty sweet wrappers and water and dirt everywhere. We were left waiting for a cubicle, freezing cold, for ages to get dressed and there were young children shivering. Even though the pool was warm, the changing rooms were not. My son went to try and use the toilets to get dressed but he came back and said there was urine on the floor so he couldn't put his bag down. We will not be returning. We didn't see a single member of staff cleaning the changing rooms at all during our visit. Disgraceful!!

Food was decent and average prices, and the view is great, but some constructive feedback for the venue:

We did visit out of season, so it was quieter than one might expect. We ate here two nights and it’s fair to say we were both surprised by the quality and value for money.

Great views over site and beach, soft play for kiddies but sadly some staff are just not well trained in cleaning tables, poor attention to detail even after asking for table to be cleaned it was ignored. Witnessed one member simply sweeping the food off the table onto chairs and flooring. Basic stuff but clearly no training given or if it is management don’t monitor. A few badly behaved small children running on stage and over seats and tables unchecked by oblivious parents, watched by staff who clearly were unsure how to approach parents or kids. Guess it was wait and see, dint take long before one slipped and hurt herself,

Very happy with the swimming pool (although we had to queue between 9 and 10 as they had one pool for lane swimming). Indoor play area is great, but unmanned, so parents need to supervise. Bar/restaurant did good pizza for decent value.

Too small for the numbers on the site. Over priced for what you get. Could do with a few more staff. There is an adults only area but as with other rules on this site... No one follows them, and staff do not enforce them

The kids love the soft play and because of the lay out it’s easy to keep an eye on them. The drinks are good but the food is disappointing. The pizza was of poor quality, fish was over cooked, the mixed salad was just lettuce leaves! We have been a few times and it is always busy, it’s a great location. This place could be brilliant just needs the food sorting out.

We went to the pentewan sands restaurant for a family lunch. My scampi was over done as was burned. The chef said it wasn’t this put me off my food they did offer an alternative but I declined I asked for a refund of my meal only and was told no because it always looks like that.... it doesn’t because I’ve had it there before. The assistant start manager agreed with the chef.... sadly I don’t agree neither did my daughter in law who tried a piece..... very disappointed very ignorant even made me sign a piece of paper to say their version of events

I’m local and come her quite regularly over the winter as it’s a child friendly place for my 2 year old daughter. The Seahorse centre isn’t just a restaurant as there is a soft play area and a swimming. We usually come her to swim as although the pool is fairly small the slides are perfect for young children. The restaurant just does basic food like burgers but as stated before the appeal for us is the child friendly aspect. There is a dance floor area and the lights are usually on so kids will enjoy playing around and there is also the soft play area.

This was the last meal I had put booked for Christmas and had it been the only meal , I probably would have given it a higher review but because other meals out have really put their a game on, the seahorse needs to pull it's proverbial socks up and sort it out. We booked for 10 of us and pre ordered our meals. The Ham hock terrine was nice and the sauce was flavoured lovely. The roast is where it went wrong. I was the lucky one who got the end of the roll of beef so my two slices where very small compared to others and it was pretty rare whether you liked it or not. I'm guessing the meat was cooked fresh that night, which is lovely but I would rather have slightly well done meat and fresh potatoes. The roast potatoes where dry and had that nasty been cooked before taste. I would assume that they had been cooked in advance and reheated. I had to eat them as the veg on offer was pretty small portion per person and that was just on the edge of al dente/raw. We all choose the same dessert and we agreed that although the yule log was lovely the choclate ganache was very strong flavoured so to have a quinell of that extra was too much. It could have done with some cream or lighter sauce to offset the strong dark chocolate. The disco after was fun though and drinks where reasonable prices. Overall needs work, wasn't the worst meal I've had but certainly not the best. Maybe you should get out and see your competitors and maybe up your game to match.

We are locals but during winter session think the car park is pricey, realise this can be taken of food and drink. Toilets need checking regular as they were dirty, one hot tap doesn’t work but no note to inform you. Indoor play area is great but the down stairs part needs airing and cleaning as smells and dirty.

As I live locally I decided to take my 3 children swimming here and use the restaurant afterwards. Firstly the changing facilities are diabolical! There are only 6/7 changing rooms which is ridiculous. I have 3 children to try and get ready with nowhere for them to change as obviously all the changing rooms were being used.. this was the same scenario when we wanted to get changed after swimming. For a campsite as big as this I would expect better facilities. There are no baby change facilities in the changing area either. The act you have to go upstairs to pay then come back down the stairs make no sense. When we eventually made it into the swimming pool the water was very cold even in the toddler pool. The water slide in the middle of the main pool is dangerous to say the least. The fact that it is not separated from the main pool mean you have to try and negotiate your way past other swimmers in order to catch your child when they come flying off the end! Again after a nightmare trying to change my 3 children we went upstairs to get some drinks and cake only to be told you don't serve food on a Sunday between 11am and 12pm. It was 11:15 at this point. So after ordering drinks i noticed other people with food so when I went back to the bar I was told I could order food! So had to queue twice for food. When the food and drinks came out they were delicious but unfortunately we did have to wait 30min and I could understand if it was busy or if we were pre warned about the wait but it wasn't busy at all. All in all a pretty miserable experience.

My family and I really enjoy the time we spend at The Seahorse Centre. We make weekly trips to the pool with our children. The pool is usually a nice warm temperature and the changing rooms are clean. The only negative comment is that if the pool is busy, there aren't enough changing rooms or showers for everyone. The Lifeguards are friendly and welcoming. In fact, the Lifeguards who were on shift today, were particularly engaging. (One was called Michael - Please thank him from us). The restaurant/ cafe is always clean and the cappuccinos are fantastic!

Open to the public and to guests at the campsite, The Seahorse offers drinks slightly cheaper than nearby pubs in villages. It's quite a large venue but does fill up in high season when campsite entertainment is on. There are usually plenty of staff during the day and three or four behind the bar in evenings. There are signs advising people not to form one long queue and to line up along the bar but these are generally ignored by customers. Therefore those who actually take notice of the signs often get served quicker as staff don't like to rush up and down the bar. It's more efficient if they stay at their station. That said, it seems to take twenty presses of the touch screens for staff to enter in orders and service is rarely as quick as a chain pub, for example. The menu is more mainstream than last year with some crowd pleasers back such as three types of burger rather than three types of Thai curry. Quality is OK, nothing special but perfectly edible. There's a wide selection of drinks from the St Austell brewery, Korev Cornish lager and from Healy's cider as well as bottled drinks and soft drinks. Seating and tables are mostly good, and waiting staff are quick enough to clear away. But when they close the windows (I understand why) for the evening entertainment it becomes stiflingly hot even on moderate days. In 2016 during a heat wave it was unbearable. In 2017 we were still sweating. There's no air-con, no ventilation, no fans, no air circulation. There is air-con over the bar so the staff are comfy but not even ceiling fans for customers. I do not recall it being this hot prior to the 2016 refurb. Worth docking a whole rating point for this as it can make the experience uncomfortable. There is an outdoor terrace/balcony for al-fresco drinking/dining and smoking. The free wi-fi has been upgraded and worked well including outside on the balcony. Note that the doors to the balcony and windows are closed around 9pm when the evening entertainment starts.

Festive Afternoon Tea this afternoon was very disappointing. It is clearly a stop gap to keep income trickling in between Sunday lunch and evening dinner service. The biggest issue is with the service, very inattentive, unconcerned staff not in the slightest bit interested in providing a professional level of attention. The afternoon tea was acceptable but not exactly delightful let alone memorable or to be recommend to others. Delightful setting with the hotel beautifully appointed and well decorated for Christmas, just a pity the staff were not switched on at all. Management at fault and it would appear no investment made in staff training.

For a spot of lunch, my wife and two children decided to eat here. Never again. We settled on the beef style kebabs (on a skewer). With rice. The beef was tough, tastless, rough and badly cooked. I was a butcher, I should know! Rice was microwaved but still undercooked! The salad that came with it was soggy, rotten and floppy. The best part of the meal was the kids fish goujons. We spent 70 quid (including drinks) on some of the worst food I've eaten.
