We had previously booked for a roast at another establishment and after arriving we were told that they had run out of roasts. After trying to find alternatives we cut our losses and headed down to the sea front to grab some fish and chips. A quick search on TripAdvisor pointed us to O'Shea's - after queing for five minutes we were informed that they pretty much only had chips left. Would we ever get fed? My girlfriend had noticed another chippy (Sea View Fish Bar) on the walk and led us on our next voyage to be fed. As she led the way I had a quick search of the place and was met with bad reviews of the place. I debated pulling her away, but you haven't met her when she is hangry. A number of other customers had also headed here from O'Shea's for their fish fix. Customer service was good and the food even better. Our fish was covered in a golden crispy batter and the chips were of a good quality. I don't usually leave reviews but felt it was important as our experience here was an enjoyable one.

Absolutely shocking behaviour and poor customer service. It was a very busy Saturday afternoon so the staff should expect to see and hear children in the presence of adults. A member of the staff actually shouted across the shop at a toddler "sssshhh". The mother actually had hold of the child and was trying to discourage his volume so there is no need to shout at customers. If children are not welcome this should be clearly displayed!!!!

Popped in for some food for the family whilst in Barry. Chips were fine, However, the Savaloy Sausage and Chicken & Mushroom were barely luke warm.Went back, they said they would put sausage in the microwave...err..no thanks. Re heated the pie and sent us on our way...had to ask for a refund for the sausage even though we never had it in the end.Overall a poor experience...Will never visit here again...which is a shame as we are regulars to Barry throughout the year.

Although the chips were nice, it did make me laugh that we are all queuing 2 metres apart, but then on the way out you have to self service your own salt and vinegar! How many people are touching them without hand sanitising first!!! The staff should be doing this for you when your food is ready!

Lovely food after a day on the beach, we sat outside to eat, the fish was gorgeous and the chips were very nice too. Served quickly and only few minutes wait for our order.

Queued for half an hour to be served - then an extra 20 minutes to actually receive our order! We understand it was very busy, but it’s no excuse to serve barley cooked chips and cold savaloy!! Maybe in future, put a wait on food or stop taking orders until you catch up!! Not impressed and will definitely not be returning! Sort it out

Surprised at the reviews, perhaps the Sea View has new owners but we had fish and chips there today and it was excellent. Fresh hot and very tasty.

stopped in here to get pie and chips to eat on the beach, did not have to wait long to get served and the meal was very nice. best thing about it was it only cost £4 which is very good for a seafront property. plenty of seating on the outside and inside for to to eat.

Stopped by for fish and chips. Not sure it warrants all of the previous poor reviews. Fish was fresh and tasty, chips were nice. Reasonable portion sizes at a standard price. Seating available outside and I didn’t have to wait long. I’d happily eat here again next time I visit Barry

The WORST chip shop we have ever had the misfortune of eating from.We visited 9.8.18, they were close to closing which wasn't a problem as we just wanted simple sausage and chips. Everything was such a chore for the member of staff that served us.I was presented my food in 2 trays which wouldn't close, how she expected me to carry these by myself is beyond me, I had to request to have them wrapped and put in a bag, I got the impression this was an unreasonable request. We had ordered sausage in batter and chips twice. The sausage is without a doubt the worst I have ever tasted! In no way did it eben resemble a sausage, the small the taste the look, everything was disgusting, I took a bite and had no option but to discard it, it simply wasn't edible. It made me feel physically sick! I told my partner not to even attempt it.Had we not been so hungry the whole lot would have gone in the bin!Had I known what I know bow I would not have proceeded with the order but we were both hungry and it was l

Manager was real rude and just seemed like he didn’t want to be there at all - or even serving customers. Also had 3 complaints in the 30 minutes we were there from other customers. One lady said they didn’t bring out one of their orders and another said they completely forgot about theirs. No sauce available at all, just salt and vinegar ??? #appaling Chips are mediocre + the burger was mank also large chips was tiny, and the prices overall were wayyyy too high considering what you got. Could overhear an employee complaining how she hasn’t got her break yet and swearing at her boss, that was funny. Only good things are they have cold drinks.

This is opposite the promenade next to the Fun Fair. It doesn’t look much from outside and isn’t any better on the inside, but the other Fish and Chip Shop that we know is good along on the beach front had run out of fish, so having looked forward to F&C we were searching for another. They are ‘awaiting’ their mandatory (in Wales) Food Hygiene certificate. If they want to get any decent rating they’ll need to clean up their act – the counter had discarded chips and salt scattered about it, whilst the staff stood by idly waiting for the chips to cook. Unfortunately, they were a bit quicker taking our order and money, so were committed by this time. The fish although cooked to order didn’t taste that fresh and the chips were just ordinary. So I don’t think I’ll be returning. There are better options in the vicinity.

Very disappointing experience overall… Worst was the food we ordered, my wife and I had the halloumi cheese and red peppers in white baguettes… The rolls were hard and stale plus the halloumi was frozen wrapped in bread crumbs tasting nothing like the real cheese and the peppers were so small they were almost none exsistant…

In Barry for the weekend we popped into The Ship in the afternoon to warm up and grab a brew. It was lovely and warm inside, especially considering this is such a large place. Comfortable, very clean and well presented it made a nice change from the 'spoons' we had been in earlier. Upon checking out the choiceable menu and the very reasonable prices we decided to return that night for dinner around 7pm. The place was very very quiet! This didn't bother us as we had the pick of the tables and opted for a snug booth. The booth had a built in TV which we believe shows CBBC, a great idea if you're visiting with kids. We were served by a lady called Micky who helped me choose what to have. The Lamb Keema stack was a good choice and very nice and priced at just £11 (Saturday deal) couldn't be faulted. My partner had Chicken Tikka which she enjoyed - before starting on Cocktails which The Ship has a good choice of. Throughout the visit service was good and staff were friendly. We stayed until closing and will definitely return if we are back in the area. Highly recommended. +++++

Ok 12 of us Christmas dinner , we had been sat down 20 minutes late, crammed into a spot suitable for 10 , tables all uneven so plates rocking , climbing over each other ( whilst people of 6 sat in luxury with space for 12 ) … food , ok food mmmmm where to start , starter was ok , but the dinners all came out maybe all 12 served in 10 minutes , some plates missing parsnips , roasties , some veg … mentioned to waitress , some things that looked like potatoes but looked like they hadn’t seen the sun never mind an oven , by this time most of the food was either tepid or eaten, so now we have a bowl of microwaved parsnip some roasties .. I don’t like to complain and to be honest it was busy but *no excuse for not serving as advertised! Ok , waitress then gets manager , he comes over and gives it “ I have on good authority that all meals left kitchen complete !” , complete sh*t YES , complete as advertised NO . Then delayed so we couldn’t have a round of drinks and as a good well gesture offered to delete the £22 charge for the bowl of cold sh*t !NEWSFLASH , we had paid upfront ! @£58 a head , I wouldn’t eat there again if it was free with AI lager . I have drafted an email to head office and I’ll strongly be blasting the lack of toilet facilities, the state of both male / female toilets / the poor food / poor management/ poor presentation/ poor microwave…. If the waitress hadn’t of tried to resolve in the professional manner she used ( kudos ) it would’ve been a different story and uproar would’ve resulted . In closing the food was poor at best , the drinks and bar service ok , waitress good as gold , manager a total slice , pub itself is run down and in desperate need of modernising and deep cleaning . * footnote , eating my poor food and listening to a drinker not in our party telling stories of his sexual conquest and fights wasn’t the angelic picture of Christmas. *footnote 2 , if you ever have to pay upfront you are more than likely to have a poor meal anywhere ! But I’d have rather of been anywhere other than there . SH*T
