The restaurant has a fantastic setting overlooking the river and good quality furniture. The staff are great, friendly attentive and helpful. The reason we wont be going again and why I cant recommend it to my fellow travellers is because the food we had was average, very overpriced and the worst aspect by far was extortionate wine prices. This is not a "fancy" restaurant yet a simple ribeye steak was £27 for an 8oz (220g) steak with a few chips, one yes one medium sized mushroom and half a tomato with a smattering of rocket. I wish I had stuck with a glass of water as a drink as the £29 bottle of wine was mediocre to say the least Gable View 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon and retails in french supermarkets for £2.29. Google it if you think I am kidding. Even in this couintry £5.79. That is one hell of a mark up and I feel truly ripped off.

We visited tonight. Calamari - chewy. Steak - not how I cooked it then waited 20 minutes for much smaller steak. Menu not the same as the website (no lobster and even menu in branch - no thin fries) over two and a half hours later still sat here only just given another drink and an awful cheeseboard. We ordered affogato - cold coffee, overfrozen ice cream and no liqueur. I’m very positive normally but honestly for your money go to another place. We are disappointed. They keep mentioning taking things off our bill but we are still sat here. Awful. I wouldn’t even give it 1 star - we had better service at the the service station en route!

Stupidly priced wine. Expensive food of mediocre quality. Good service. Nice location overlooking the river.

Booked a table for 8pm as staying in hotel overnight. Half the menu was unavailable as they had run out - even batter for fish! Food was ok but just average. It certainly didn’t warrant the prices. Wine was exceptionally overpriced. All in all we were very disappointed.

There were 10 of us for a family meal on a Sunday night. Not surprisingly it was very quiet. Service was good and the food was nice and good value- especially the desserts. The wines are very expensive - malbec £45 a bottle which though good seemed overpriced. The service was good. Slightly strange experience at the end - we asked to sit the bill 5 ways , £90 each (a reasonable tip included). The server put £98 in the machine. Her English was poor so presumably a mistake- not sure how £90 can be confused for £98 though! It's a good location and the food is good so we are likely to go again.

We recently stayed at the hotel and booked a table in the restaurant, the service was good and the staff attentive. The food was average at best and overpriced, £22 for a 6oz rump steak is outrageous. And then it was overcooked and had to be sent back, how can a steak restaurant overcook a rump from a medium rare to a well done.. By the time my husbands steak returned I had finished my meal so my husband and I didn't enjoy the experience at all. On top of that when he did get his second steak it was still wrong now it was medium to well done with several of the hand cut chips under cooked but he was past complaining so ate it and we retired. We did not leave a tip.. The next morning the hotel breakfast was in the same restaurant and that was quite lovely served by lovely staff. If we were to return to this hotel we definitely would not eat in this restaurant in the evening again.

My husband and I stayed over in the hotel for a business meeting and invited a supplier to join us. After drinks at the bar we went to the restaurant. Our orders was taken and we received our drinks first. My husband and I ordered the same food we had a week ago in Loch Ronnach. The portions was smaller. As other people commented on the steak. It is cold and small. We did not complaint as we had guest. We told the staff in the morning. We will stay in the hotel again but will not have a meal in the restaurant again. Not value for money. Breakfast was good.

We had dinner here as we were staying in the hotel and were far from disappointed. The food was absolutely fantastic, expensive but fantastic, we all had steak and couldn't fault it in any way, and the 4 of us all agreed. The service was also excellent and we couldn't fault it in any way at all. Great food and service and definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the hotel.

Bit of a mixed bag when we ate here recently. First of all we ordered a trio of breads. We were informed that they were just coming out of the oven and would be a couple of minutes. About 20 minutes later we got our bread! It clearly hadn't just come out of the oven either. We also ordered the haggis bonbons which were very nice. For mains my wife ordered the steak pie and says that it was good. I ordered a 200g rump steak. It looked good however the first mouthful informed me that it had clearly been sitting under a heat lamp waiting for the rest of the meal to be plated. The field mushroom on my plate was stone cold. It must have been cooked 20 minutes earlier. I pointed out to the waiter that I wasn't too happy about this and in fairness he took it away and 5 minutes later returned with a warm plate of food. I have to say though that whilst the steak was now warm and well cooked it look significantly smaller than 200g but I couldn't be bothered to complain again. In summary, I've had better dining experiences and worse but I wouldn't be in a hurry to eat here again.

To start we had rge calamari. It looked undercooked. It was deep fried and quite bland. 5 calamari rings for £8.50. Not very good value. The rib eye was ok. The red wine jus was like beef stock gravy. Not good. The "hand cut" chips were under cooked and crunchy due to the raw potato. They didn't even bother to cook the unimpressive tomato. It was conducted and raw. When I asked for the bill the waiter asked if the food was good. I advised no... he laughed. Then when he realised I was serious and explained the reasons he said he would tell the chef. No other comments by the restaurant. My advice. Dint bother. Sorry.

Steaks and fresh fish were all cooked to perfection. Great selection of wines, very nice surroundings and very polite, friendly and efficient service - a very pleasant meal and just a minute it two from the motorway. I don't think it's possible to find a nicer restaurant any where along the M6. Highly recommended!

Almost all diners on a Tuesday night obviously business customers.Three Dressed down bikers turn up and are instantly Classified by the lady at the door.Poorest table allocated by the fire escape followed by the poorest service 54 minutes from point of order until the maincourse arrived. The Steaks were good, The Monkfish curry was not a curry at all but a nice fillet of monkfish coated in something on a bed of curry sauce served with rice and a nan bread. My dining partner asked for a fried egg on top of his steak an old trick he often does to enjoy a free egg.No chance £1.50 was on the bill for the egg.Poor service was recognised by staff who gave us a free pudding each to compensate and they did not attempt to add the 12.5% service charge.Regret will not be back anytime soon.

I've already done this review months ago, so wonder if it was rejected by the hotel. I wrote a formal complaint and was offered a free meal for two including wine but when the voucher arrived, the "voucher value" wouldn't even cover two steaks from the menu, let alone the rest of the meal or wine. I will never visit here again, nor will my extended family in the area who had already warned me not to eat there! Awful!

Ate here a couple of times as staying at hotel. Food was of decent standard, steaks were delicious, but small. Fish was well prepared . Service friendly and reasonably quick - though restaurant was quiet midweek.

I dread to think how many times I have passed the Tickled Trout, but this was the first time I had ever eaten here.We chose this for two reasons. First, my wife loves her steak. Second, we had a free High Life card which allowed us up to three free courses when the same number of courses were purchased. We arrived early, and so had a drink in the bar, while perusing the menu.At our allotted time, we went to the restaurant entrance. There wasn't really anyone on duty. A waitress came to us, checked us in and explained the extra steaks on offer in their fridge, including Argentinian and American. We were then shown to our table. We then ordered our steaks and sauces. On the menu, it indicated that for a medium well steak, it might take 20 minutes, but ours arrived sooner than that.We both thoroughly enjoyed our main course. The steak was cooked exactly to our liking. Only a few chips were provided, but they were very hot and again well cooked. The puddings, for someone who likes their puddings, were a disappointment. They all come in shot glasses. Trying to eat a Scottish pancake, which had been folded into a shot glass, was rather difficult for my wife. The menu indicated that this came with maple syrup, but my wife didn't feel that there was much of this 'sauce' on hers. My wife also chose the salted peanut mousse which she enjoyed.I chose Cranachan, which I believed was a layered desert of cream, oats and fruit. What I received was a raspberry mouse with some oats on top. I also chose the lemon cheesecake. My cheesecake was pretty bland and did not taste of lemon. For the price we paid, the meal was a bargain. We wouldn't have felt hard done by had we paid full price for the main courses. We did feel that the desserts were rather expensive for what you got.We will definitely be returning again, before the High Life card expires, and will no doubt eat here when we have to pay full price. However, we will probably steer clear of the desserts in future.

Like walking into a nightclub the music was so loud. Sulky staff had to be asked twice to turn it down. Then after 15 minutes we had to ask if they were serving food. 25 minutes later without eating we left. Everyone who came in after us got served whilst we waited and waited and waited and ……. Family had travelled from Bolton. What a nightmare place. I have been using Huntleys for breakfast for years. Never again. Zero Customer Care. They act like customers are a nuisance !

Having been stuck in traffic that was even worse than usual, we took a spur of the moment decision to stop at the Hare and eat instead of enduring rising blood pressure. I'm so glad we did. Dinner was just what the doctor ordered and the fun banter with our waitress, Fabbey ensured we really enjoyed our visit and our frustration was replaced with smiles. Excellene service.
