This was my second visit to Scoffs in Paignton, and once again, it didn’t disappoint. I had the large haddock and chips, and it was absolutely superb — incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked, and generously portioned. My wife ordered the same, and we both agreed it was the best fish and chips we’ve had in a very long time. Despite the slightly chaotic service, the food came out quickly, and the staff were friendly. It’s worth noting that they seem to prefer cash, so it’s a good idea to have some on hand. Overall, Scoffs is a top spot if you’re in Paignton and craving quality fish and chips. We’ll definitely be back again.

Had the Large Haddock and Regular Chips and it was absolutely lovely. Cost £12 odd and was worth every penny. Was honestly the best fish and chips I've had for a very long time. Highly recommended. Was busy too, which is always a good sign. The chips were absolutely superb and the fish was spot on. And many thanks to the pigeons who ate the crumbs i dropped. Probably not the best diet for them but I certainly can't blame them. Enjoy.

The place to be for the famous battered chips, what i came to Paignton for. The fish was lovely aswel and the Turkey and stuffing roll with gravy was beautiful. Just a mix up with my order and I did notice a mix up with another ladies order aswel. I had a sorry but noticed the staff didnt say sorry to the other lady who was elderly and it was the staffs fault. Wasn't too busy as we went about 4, I would come here again!!

Though it's more like a big cafe than a restaurant, don't let that put you off I've been telling my friends about Scoffs and finally today they joined me. Massive fish great fluffy chips my friends had the place big as the plate . Chips coated in a very thin batter are awesome. Well better than anywhere else for fish and chips , great value, fast service and helpful staff. I gave 4 stars for atmosphere only because I like a quieter place. But clean and great food. Highly recommended.

The chips are as nice as ever, the staff's attitude is a bit to be desired, and still unsure why it costs more to eat in then to takeaway.

I have visited this marvellous fish and chip shop since I've been down here on holiday. But sadly due to go home tomorrow Sunday the 6th. If I could take the shop with me I would 😃. Credit to all your staff they do a brilliant job serving customers especially on very busy days. I live in Banbury Oxfordshire and my local fish and chip shop is good " but I must say not as good as the scoffs. I could scoff down a wheelbarrow full of your chips. Anyway all the best and please pass on my gratitude to your. Staff. ❤️

Ok chips that are cooked in batter (secret recipee )had to try these and they were knock out, fish mushy peas and service great too, now you may think let's not dine in let's go down to the beach sit in the sun with our meal,,,don't do this the gulls will mob you, saw one knock a lads chips out of his hands in the high street then the gull gang swept in, you have been warned.

The fish and chips are nice- although I asked for a pork salad and was told that they didn’t have meat for any salad so asked for tuna and egg salad and was told there were no salad available- the junior staff were polite but the elder staff were very abrupt to customers and junior staff- one young family with a very fractious child asked to leave because they had not paid the eating in price ( not intentional) difficult watch - will not be returning- seniors staff- please be kind

Used to live in Paignton and one place ive missed is here. Used to love the chips so yummy 😋 soo on a visit to Paignton went in, there was a queue but worth it had cheesy chips oh my days they were so nice. Only complaint is not enough chips could of eat more and more cheese but apart from that was nice to be bk still the best chips I’ve ever had

The food here is delicious and always the same high quality. The staff work extremely hard and whenever we visited are polite and friendly. It's a very popular restaurant so does get very busy. If you enjoy your fish and chips I'd definitely recommend Scoffs.

When we first received our fish and chips we thought it was a little odd as everything appeared yellow - couldn’t work out if it was the light! But when we tasted the food, the chips were crisp and not at all greasy, and the fish was just delightful - white inside and perfectly cooked. Hard to describe, but like having a very succulent fillet!

My daughter who is mixed race and the rest of my family come here any time we can. The food is amazing and the staff are always really friendly and helpful. Had to mention the mixed race bit after reading a review saying the staff are racist. They are not. I would recommend this place to everyone regardless of their race.

You just can't resist sampling Scoffs battered chips. Whether you're eating them on the go or sitting inside, they are delicious. £3.20 for a regular, takeaway portion or £4.50 to eat in. Plenty of seating inside but during the summer it will be rammed. Today is 30th January 2025. Still plenty of people about outside.

Staff were really rude to my 85 year old dad, shame as the food is nice except for a few raw chips.

The best fish and chips on the planet,especially pensioner deal. Quality,taste freshness,speed. We travel from Exmouth for the quality They have up front nononsense. Love it,suits me ,their mushy peas yummy. Fabulous keep it up.

Pensioner's fish and chips, tartar sauce & a nice cup of decent tea, all for £15 / 50p for two, & one of the best I've had, always welcoming, definitely return.

Best chippy in Paignton. Visited here while on a day trip from Torquay. Fish and chips were very very good. Quite reasonably priced. Would recommend to other family and friends when they’re in the area.

Popped in here for a spot of lunch. Friendly staff, lots of regulars. Fish very greasy and chips are an acquired taste but I'm sure many love them. Not bad overall. Price is average I would say

Excellent Crispy Tasty Orange Chips. Pier point has some competition now. These chips are certainly different. It seems very busy and popular and very intense for the staff so you may have to be patient. I had no issues with the customer service A pic of regular chips

Staff were very rude towards customers waiting to order food to take away, staff were making comments and complaints about cooking food being ordered that needed to be cooked. Being shouted at and spoken to in a rude manner caused us to leave without our food as were so disgusted with the behaviour. Used to be a lovely business, shame to see that the staff are ruining it for family’s.

Been here many times over the years, we were hoping that it hadn't changed much as it's been about 5 years since our last visit. I have to say it didn't disappoint battered chips still fantastic large haddock still beautifully battered and fresh and the scampi beautifully cooked so 10/10 from us we are here for a week and I'm sure this won't be the only visit to scoffs oh and they make a really excellent cup of tea too

Don't know if this place has been taken over in the last 16months but nothing like it was when I last visited last year, last year I think a family owned it, always busy when I went in and fish and chips to die for, now empty and fish and chips tasteless, did not enjoy and curry sauce 🤮, won't be going back.

We are from Exeter and have been visiting this restaurant for few years, lovely hot fresh and tasty food especially there lovely crispy chips, excellent service and ambience 5* the photo is me and the owner managed to grab it while he was there

Just left Scoffs feeling more insulated than I can remember. I ordered food, paid the bill, but as I waited I thought £25 for two meals was rather pricey. I added the amount up to £16 and queried the amount paid. It turned out to be a simple mistake, the cashier heard 2 portions of one meal rather than 1. Had I just got a refund I would have left it at that. 3 times I was told "you just watched me dish them up" "why would you let me dish them up" I don't work in a chip shop, I have no idea who does what behind the counter, not do I care. I appreciate you are all very busy, but don't overcharge customers, don't make them feel stupid when they question being overcharged and don't insult them in front of a queue of people. To be fair the food was ok, reasonably priced, but because of the appalling service and how I felt leaving the shop, I rate scoffs 1 star

Food it lovely always but as always service is disappointing and so poor. We are local and do spend money here and each time the management is terrible. Shouting at their staff and the lady 3 times I have ordered a takeaway for 5 of us I have had an eye roll from the younger woman running it. This time she sighed rolled her eyes then said give 5 minutes. I even asked the man taking my order was that okay!! I then got told 5 minutes later they only had 1 battered sausage after paying and waiting. I got another eye roll from the older man on the till and another sight, WOW!! Calm down and sort out your customer service you are so very rude always. Disgusting treatment for good local customers. Won’t be back this time too many times now. Rude management and most of the staff. Shouldn’t be allowed!

Unbelievable!! The whole time the man behind the till said oh well it has been sold. Calm down and sort out your customer service you are so very rude always. Disgusting treatment for good local customers. Won’t be back. Today was the last time, too many previous times too. Rude management and most of their staff. Shouldn’t be allowed!

Had large Haddock and have to say it was the best fish I have ever had. Better than the award winning fish at Whitby. A must try if you are anywhere close

Traditional Yorkshire fish and chips! Wow these chips are battered and cooked in beef dripping! The taste is incredible, been here a few times, always got to have a small cone of chips whilst walking down the High Street!

Got fish and chips the service was good the staff were friendly wish the food was good but it was rubbish. The chips had some orange batter on them they were rank, the fish was tasteless and had giant bits of salt in it.

Always go here when on holiday..and when you read about being rude deffo not ..its a fast paced HOT environment and the staff do there best and beyond 👍💗💗

Went today to have dinner with family before driving home after a lovely day out, our two youngest wont eat fish and chips so had got them something else from a local company, despite planning to order 3 adult meals to eat in we were told the two young ones couldnt eat their food with us and so we went to order take out only to find take out is cash only which to me stinks of a tax dodge and undeclared income.... having said we only had card we were made to feel like idiots so drove home to have dinner there an annoying end to a lovely day

Loved the chips but i think they should tell you what they have out on them for allergen/dietary needs they are not just potato Disappointed with the staff attitude if you done like your job/ business choose another path because it seems from comments its the general consensus

Some of the best chips I have ever had! Would highly recommend it if you're in the area and want some fish and chips. All the food was delicious but the Chips were really the highlight. The staff were quick and efficient and the eating area was clean. All in all, unless you hate good food, I would highly recommend it.

Came across here by walking down the street saw said home of Yorkshire us being that said go on, the lady was very helpful said to order if wanted sit out as warm it’s cheaper take away price, I had fish and chips kids had nuggets and chips, husband and chips and Cornish pasty, only thing will says thought the cans of pop was £1.60 thought was bit high then again everything is high up in price overall it was brilliant 🤩

Popped in last week for a quick takeaway tea. Service & attitude is terrible, all added up in head so can easily make a mistake. The only reason we went was for the chips, which were mediocre. I wouldn’t recommend, I’d go elsewhere next time.

Its a marmite effect you either love it or hate it I think the food is really good some may not understand that the chips are covered in a extra crispy coating and maybe not to all tastes but you cannot please everyone give it a try, the only downside is I feel its a bit pricey and they do not take card payments which is annoying.

food was always ok, they have some horrible staff though, when busy one day, the European lady working in the dining room yelled "UP UP UP YOU CANT STAND HERE MOVE" too a 3 year old boy, get her back on the boat.. Wont ever eat there again

Great food. Cod was fresh and nicely battered. Chips were amazing! (See photo). They do charge £2 for a 500ml bottle of water and won't provide free tap water, and the drinks are expensive. They are friendly enough but were very busy when we visited. It's a traditional fish and chip café that does takeaway and eat in. They do other food such as quarter pounders too. Our bill was over £40 and the kids just had a small bowl of chips and a soft drink, so budget accordingly. Over all, if you're looking for a traditional fish and chips and have the budget, I work recommend Scoffs.

Good fish and chips with fast and friendly service

We have ordered two portions of chips, they were absolutely disgusting covered in greasy batter from other fried food. Probably was fried in old oil too. Cash only, no cash machines around either so had to walk a good distance to get cash for horrible chips. Disappointing

I don’t know where to begin. The older guy and son? Look filthy with batter splattered down their aprons. The woman on the counter seems to be more pro-active in asking customers if they want fish cooking. The two other zombies just grunt to one another.. and toil away making bright orange ‘chips’ that will leave your mouth and lips feeling rather odd and slimy. Maybe they think they have some winning formula or something with their agent orange batter? Never going again, felt ill all evening afterwards, it’s places like Scoffs that bring this great seaside town down. AVOID.

Presentation of food was lovely and genuinely looked really nice only reason it deserves a 1 star but had a sausage and chips not a hard meal to mess up but was absolutely rancid batter was undercooked and rubbery sausage meat tasted horrible no flavour whatsoever chips were nothing special either mainly just the crunchy end bits almost tasted like they had been soaked in margarine wouldn’t recommend in the slightest many other better places in the area very disappointed

Had visited on reccomdation from a friend. Absolutely will not recommend to anyone else. Fish and chips although looked appetising was infact rancid. Never had a worse meal. Myself and my family were really disappointed also customer service was pretty average felt rushed when the place was empty withing 10 seconds asking of entering the business they were asking what we want whilst they could see we were looking at menu AVOID! Because I wish i had many other great food businesses in the area

One of the best fish and chip shops I visited. Food was amazing and decent price. Whenever we go on holiday to Devon we go to Paignton quite a lot and always we always make sure we get fish and chips here.

Kicked me out whilst I’m pregnant in the heat to eat my food and wasn’t allowed to sit in and they didn’t even ask if we wanted to sit in or take away not a way to treat someone plus the chips taste absolutely horrible and soggy never going here again if I could I wouldn’t give any stars

Called in walking past for some chips. They were huge like jenga bricks, bright orange, and seemed to have some crispy coating on them. Maybe was just us as lots of good reviews on here, but neither myself nor my wife liked them at all. The following morning they also stained the toilet bowl orange.

Best chips I’ve had in my life. Not going anywhere else for my chips anytime I’m in Paignton or neighbouring towns. I’ve found the one.

We were introduced to Scoffs whilst visiting a relative two years ago, we fell in love with their fish and chips. This week, we returned to Scoffs a mere 15mins after our arrival in Paignton to get a taste of the best once again. My teen absolutely LOVES the chips and mentions them whenever we talk about Paignton, so he was thrilled to come back. The staff were friendly and welcoming, good customer service and even made up some fresh fish bites for my youngest child. You can't get better than that! Thank you, Scoffs!

So me and my family went To this cafe on Easter Sunday we decided to have some of these chips. When my husband went to order, nobody told hi that we were not allowed to eat in. If we ordered from this Pacific counter so My daughter and my 4 month grandson went to sit down as my grandson was getting fussy and wanted to be feed. my husband was ordering food. My husband then went to come over and joined us and got screamed at by the man behind the counter. Say you can't eat them in here this Counter is takeaway only.. So my husband proceed to go outside and I carried on feeding my grandson. Then the rude waitress the old lady with grey hair behind the counter came over and started screaming at me that I could not feed My 4 month grandson as it was a busy restaurant and I hadn't ordered from the right counter. I proceed to tell her that I was going to feed my grandson. And if somebody had explained that we could have ordered from the. Right counter. and that I was not going to sit outside in the freezing cold and feed my grandson. I'm once I had finished feeding my grandson. I would leave. She then proceed to tell me that a cafe was no place to feed a child. By the time I got to eat my food it was cold 🥶 the old lad and the man were so Rude. I will never eat here again. Although the other staff were quite nice and polite and looked really awkward at the encounter. But I wouldnid1878 t waste your money and go to the nice little pub down. The road where the staff were welcoming and polite, where I only used the toilet to change my grandson. But they were so warm and inviting. We stayed for a drink.

Terrible customer service! They said cash only then when we went to leave (as we had none) they said we will take card on this occasion!!! Refused a cone of chips for inside, refused large cheesy chips (had to be regular), can only give regular curry sauces! A staff member was walking by and I picked up what she dropped….. there was no thank you! So so disappointed !!!

The young girl Julie that works there is a credit to scoffs and was very good with my nephew's.

The food is very nice but customer service was awful!
