Absolutely awful service. We arranged a wake after my grandfathers funeral only to arrive to find that nothing had been organised. Then to find a member of staff on the phone saying ‘well I can’t get rid of all of them.’ Absolutely disgusting service after an extremely difficult day.

Where to start…the food was great, just good pub grub and really reasonably priced. But the staff and landlord were just exceptional, we went to celebrate my dad’s 75th birthday (he’s been in hospital with a stroke since December) and it was his first time out in 5 months, they couldn’t have been more accommodating with allowing us to preorder, wheelchair access is great, and moving to a slightly larger table so my dad could be wheeled up to the table. Thank you for making the whole afternoon truly special and for just being so kind and friendly about everything!

A really disappointing evening at a normally good location. 50% of the items in the menu not available, the manager dealing with several other complaints during our stay and the staff seemingly unaware of how to handle a poor situation. I’ll give it one more try and then we’ll see if they have my custom back.

Terry kindly let us host a small, socially distanced wake in line with the government guidelines as he is also a hotel with rooms available for guests. He was friendly and accommodating throughout the entire process and went above and beyond with the food and drink selection. We chose the lunch time buffet as we would be getting to the pub at around 11.30.We walked in to the pub and were welcomed with a roaring log fire and a welcoming host Terry. He explained that he had just finished putting up the Christmas decorations which made the whole place look even better. The food was amazing, with a selection of sandwhiches, sausages, sausage roles, mini pasties along with hot chicken goujons, pizza and quiche. This was followed by a very nice selection of cakes along with tea and coffee.Terry is such a friendly welcoming host and should be very proud of the Saracens Head. The prices were also very reasonable too.I will definitely be going back after lock down. Thanks so much Terry.

I spent 6 days at this hotel/pub and it was amazing. Mind you that this was in Oct 2020 right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and they were still giving amazing service. The pub owner Karey was there every day making sure that all of the guest were happy and he is extremely personable! I spent a few nights at the pub (ok I was there every night of my trip). James and Olivia did an excellent job of keeping everyone happy by staying on top of their drinks and food. It’s one of the few places that I’ve ever been to where even though it’s primarily a local bar as a guest you will feel right at home! I will definitely be back to see these guys again. I went to Amersham to attend a friends 50th birthday and was pleasantly surprised in all aspects! We spent quite a lot of time inside the pub and outside in the courtyard. Kerry and staff are awesome and after a whole day of celebration I got a great night's sleep in one of the rooms facing the courtyard. I will never forget the best breakfast bacon sandwich I've ever eaten. We booked a double room and were allocated a twin; we requested a quiet room, were allocated room 4, away from the road but there were noisy patrons (presumably smokers) gathering outside in the courtyard until long after we were in bed. During the evening and first thing in the morning what could only be described a a pneumatic drill came on line and went off intermittently. Early on in the morning a noisy seventeen-square-wheeled trolly was pushed around the courtyard cobbles for an unnecessarily long time! (that’s what it sounded like) and the air extractor from the kitchen is phenomenally noisy too - but insignificant compared to the other intrusions. The room was large and well appointed, warm and bright, but in need of attention. Wiring seems to have been carelessly thrown in to facilitate retrofitted services with little regard for aesthetics - it’s functional but shabby. The twin beds were clean and not uncomfortable. En-suite had a large, effective shower and toiletries provided but was marred by the missing grate in the basin plug-hole and untidy, mouldy sealant at the back - a chrome plug and chain were provided on the shelf. The floor was mopped clean but with several hairs of various denominations. The staff were all warm, welcoming, helpful and attentive. We had dinner in a warm and cost bar with a massive welcoming log fire. Service was excellent, the food was very tasty.Breakfast was served in the bar, table service, good quality orange juice followed by whatever you wanted, served promptly with a cheery smile. The failings here are outweighed by the friendly, obliging staff. Parking on the road outside is tight but the management have an arrangement with the British Legion 200 yards down the road... so off road parking is available.

I reviewed the Saracen's Head Inn Restaurant about a year ago and was delighted with our visit. We went for Sunday lunch again in August 2019. Whilst we had no major complaints the standard seemed to have slipped. We ordered the Sunday lunch, one beef and one pork. The restaurant was quiet so there was no pressure on the team. Service was good and everyone was friendly. The meals arrived very quickly, suspiciously so (immediate thought was that a microwave had been involved). As always the plates were piled high. The quality of the meat was good. The cauliflower cheese was a bit bland (not like the usual punchy cheesy version). Vegetables were well-cooked with lots of variety. Gravy was watery. The main problem was the Yorkshire Pudding. In short it tasted stale, like a reheat from the previous day. A minor gripe but a noticeable decline from a year ago.

The food is very good and there is an excellent selection of beers and wines. The breakfast is first class and not to be missed. As one would expect, staying in a pub is not conducive to going to bed early and the rooms can be a little noisy until the bar is closed. I contacted this pub a couple of days ago for a provisional group booking in a few months' time and was told that all the rooms were available. No deposit required, just card details to secure the booking and cancellation closer to the time if necessary once guests had RSVP'ed. Today I called back to provisionally book some rooms, and was asked whether it was for a wedding. I was then told the rooms were more expensive than i had been quoted, with no group discount, and that the booking had to be pre-paid and was non-refundable. When I queried it, I was told I was speaking to the owner. I metioned that other hotels in the area had been more flexible and just required card details to secure the booking and whether this could be the case, at which point the owner hung up. Interestingly this place is showing online with a free cancellation until 48 hours before. However, I will be advising my wedding guests NOT to stay here and book other more helpful and friendlier places to stay instead, with a much more transparent booking, pricing and cancellation policy and better customer service.

There were pipes running through the room that came on and off all night with a loud grumbling noise that kept both of us awake. The towels were thin and small. The bedside light did not work. The service at the bar was quick and efficient and the landlord very 'hands-on' taking our orders and bringing extra chairs over as we sat down to excellent roast dinners.. The pub was very busy and the happy atmosphere was catching. A lovely old pub - highly recommended.

We had a meal in the Saracens Head prior to meeting some friends in Amersham. We chose meals off the specials menu which were excellent.

We came as a family of 12 for a lovely Sunday roast. You can always tell the quality of the food by the nice crispy vegetables. Landlord was front of house and very welcoming, constantly making sure everything was to our satisfaction

Found this gem of an Inn whilst searching for a place for Easter Sunday lunch, to meet up with family. Booking is recommended which we did, and from the moment we arrived the very attentive staff made us extremely welcome. The menu was comprehensive with 4 choices of meats for the roast, but also had a vast list of other options. The dinner was amazing, lots of it, hot food and warm plates. The dessert choices were equally comprehensive too, and delicious. All six of us really enjoyed the ambience of this Inn, it was full of character and also had quite a history tagged to it. A big thank you to all the staff that made this Easter Sunday a memorable one.

My husband and I went with friends for Sunday lunch. This was the third time we went, the first time we went the food was very good. The second time we went the food was not very good. We decided to give it another chance hoping we were just unlucky the second time, I’m sorry to say it was even worse, the roast beef was so tough you could hardly cut it and for this reason we will not be going back. The service was a bit slow but that didn’t worry us and I must say the staff were very friendly and pleasant.

Dinner for 5 of us was well prepared. Menu was not extensive although there were also a few specials. Often better not to have too many options, just a few well cooked ones. The staff were friendly and helpful. Prices reasonable. Pub was busy but it was Saturday night. Does B&B; - I understand the breakfast is DIY, i.e. some bread in your room with a toaster.

We were trying to find a Sunday roast in and around Amersham on Mother’s Day so everywhere was full. Managed to squeeze in at the Saracens head and it was fine, had all the trimmings but the veg was over cooked, the beef was a cheap and chewy cut and the pork was tasteless. In fact as I’m writing I’ve changed it from 3 to 2 star as it was actually all quite disappointing

After visiting Hughenden we were looking for somewhere locally for dinner, after consulting Trip Advisor we were impressed by the good reviews for this pub and rang to book a table. We were not disappointed, we receive a lovely friendly welcome, there was a good choice of food and we were all happy with our selections. My beef and Guinness pie was lovely and my friends enjoyed their gammon and burger meals. We were you full to have a dessert but the ample supply of chocolates with our coffee was a nice touch. Although we don't live in the area I think we will be looking for other tourist attractions in the area so will have at excuse to revisit this lovely pub.

Me and my wife were attending a family celebration last night in Amersham and wanted somewhere local to stay. So we booked up the saracens Inn and all I can say is what a great choice. Great location for the bus from amersham train station. And as soon as we arrived we were welcomed with open arms.we were given a nice room with a comfy bed.and had a really lovely wholesome breakfast. It's a really warm and cosy pub and would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Went for a Sunday lunch at the Saracens Head on a snowy 10th December. Food was excellent. Best Pub Sunday lunch around. Great hospitality from landlord. Couldn’t do enough for us. Huge portions... arrive hungry! Football on the TV too low sound for those interested. Definitely worth a visit!

This pub is not on the main road through Amersham so you can easily miss it but that would be shame. We visited on a Friday night and was warned to reserve a table as it’s not that large and if you do not like eating in the bar area it not for you but you will miss out on a super meal.

My family and I had tried about 5 different pubs looking for a decent sandwich for lunch, after encountering a pizza menu, Thai food and generally overpriced, more restaurant style menus at pubs nearby (don't get me wrong, I love Thai and pizza, but when did it become so hard to find a classic pub menu?!) Remembering the Saracen's tucked around the corner, we decided to stop by and were not disappointed. We have been for dinner before and had the same great experience then - tasty food with generous portions and really friendly service. We will definitely be back when we are in the mood for some good old fashioned pub grub!

I booked this pub based on the menu, because in addition to a traditional roast there were other options for people who just didn't want the roast, for kids and vegetarians. The roast was traditional, and whilst I've seen other reviews saying carrot and swede mash is old hat, actually for my elderly parents it was fantastic!!! So for our mixed group it was perfect, and on the day no one was disappointed (rare!!). The food was served hot, and couldn't fault the service. Will definitely be going back!

We visited Amersham for a steam train journey and found the Saracens Head through trip adviser. I can only concur with the other good reviews on here. We both had the pate starter, simple but nicely presented. My roast lamb was amazing. Perfectly tender and a really good flavour. It could have been a little pinker for my liking but as it was so moist, tender and flavourful I still thoroughly enjoyed it. My partners steak and kidney pudding was equally impressive. Thin and delicious suet pastry and nice chunky filling in excellent gravy. The vegetables with both dishes were great, cooked to perfection and piping hot. The cauliflower cheese needs a particular mention!

My husband and I fancied a night away and found this place on laterooms.com. To say we were happy was an understatement. It's a gorgeous little pub/restaurant. All of the staff were lovely and made us feel so welcome. The food was very good too, my husband ordered the Guinness and ale pie off the specials board and I had the saracens burger and we both really enjoyed it. Breakfast was delicious too and we were greeted by a very friendly gentleman. Rooms were very clean and really comfortable. We will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Saracen's Head Inn for two nights. The bartender is very friendly and makes great conversation with exceptional service. Everyone who works there is incredibly helpful and will help with anything you may need or want. We had breakfast there a few times. Besides the hot plate filled with great food which hit the spot, the restaurant and bar space itself only added to the amazing atmosphere and meal.

I just had a brilliant meal here! From the moment I walked in, the team greeted me warmly and really knew their stuff about the menu. The Shakshuka was absolutely spot on—delicious and well-presented—while the Salsiccia e Friarielli was perfection with a slight tweak to the base. Everything was so clean and inviting, plus the service was quick and friendly. Can’t wait to come back for more!

great working class no nonsense pub (with pool tables and super cheap beer), go there before it gets refurbished (ie gentrified)
