Sands House in Kirklees

This place is traditional. The food is very good. The one thing that absolutely is refreshing is the positive friendly customer service. The young staff are probably all under 21 however their attention to detail and care for the customers is 10/10. This is from an ex restaurant owner of many years. We will be back for sure. I would give the Sunday lunch a swerve, it’s said to be a carvery but you can’t help yourself to anything and the veg is very limited, that saying the meat was lovely and plenty of it

Poor service, terrible food and small portions. Other than the beef itself, the carvery meal was ridiculously poor - the mash was congealed and tasteless, the roast potatoes hard and obviously reheated and the vegetables were overcooked and soggy. The portions were very small as they "needed to save what was left for the rest of the evening" at 5.15pm - apparently they couldn't cook fresh/additional food. Added to a poor attitude from the guy servicing to having to ask for the bill 4 times as the staff were busy chatting to each other, this is definitely one to avoid.

Me and my partner went today for Sunday lunch.Previously been several times to say it has been taken over.I knew this as the price has gone up a lot. Also the mash on the Sunday dinner was like wallpaper paste.No taste and bland. Could tell no one knew what they were doing.Very disorganised.Wont be going again shame as the last people running it were brilliant.

We called into this little countryside pub as we were passing on the way to Holmfirth, We had the £19.99 meal for 2 & 2 Diet cokes. The food arrived fairly quickly, i had the Chicken & Mushroom pie with chunky chips and & peas and a coating of rich gravy, My partner ordered the Fish & chips with side salad. Upon arrival the staff were excellent and we were well looked after, i highly recommend calling in if your passing as the food is good quality, my only gripe is someone was allowed to VAPE at the bar & no one stopped him, the smell is horrible. But overall we had a nice visit thanks to all the staff again.

Called at the Sands House earlier today we had a drink then thought about having at meal, so we ordered another drink and asked about food we were told the kitchen had closed at 6.30pm! On a Thursday night there was no sign up to say they were not serving food, we then noticed another 2 couples arriving they went down to the dining area, we then asked again about food and was told this time they were not serving food to walk in’s!! On a Thursday night at 6.45!! This seems early to stop serving food. Another group of guys came in and asked about food they were told the same no food for walk in’s, the thing that amazed us the most was the pub was not even busy! All was not lost as we left and went to another pub who was still serving food on a Thursday at 7.15pm unfortunately we won’t be rushing back here for food during the week. If your kitchen is closing early and you are not serving walk in’s you need to be putting a notice on your Facebook page or on the bar when customers arrive.

Nine of us visited Saturday 30th March, the service was was good as was the food. What let it down was the...... TWO DINE for £19.99 - Monday to Saturday Individually priced outside those times. *Offer not available Bank Holidays & Festive periods. We were told this was not available as it was a Bank Holiday, you don't have Bank Holiday's on a Saturday, very misleading and unfair

SUNDAY LUNCH - just me and my pooch. lovely welcoming place with fabulous food which includes the dog, super friendly staff and fantastic price. Fab big garden and smoke shelter, I love this place.

Warm welcome. Lovely, atmospheric pub. Wednesday afternoon and it was nicely busy - so good to see. Chicken and mushroom pie was clearly handmade along with mushy peas and proper, homemade chips! Absolutely delicious. Steak with peppercorn sauce and veg (our request to change the menu was easily and cheerfully accommodated as husband can't eat carbs) Perfect. Big portions too. Our little dachshund was welcomed with a smile also. Staff were friendly, attentive and professional. We will definitely be back!!

Really excellent meal and service. We booked on line and it was a treat for mine and my husbands mum. The place is very clean and looks so welcoming. We arrived at midday and were seated immediately, staff attended quickly ensuring we had menus and drinks. The staff looked young but were so professional and very knowledgeable. The food arrived in a good time and was absolutely delicious. This is our first visit for food and we will certainly be coming back. Thankyou for a wonderful afternoon.

Favourite place to eat after a walk on the moors, it’s consistently good!! Whoever’s in charge has got it just right, warm, cosy and the foods filling and tasty! The only I’d change is the music playlist!!

The food was excellent, we had steak and ale pie n chips and the chicken burger. Huge, perfectly cooked chips and delicious gravy made this one of the best steak and ale pies I have ever had. Our 9 month old baby was with us and she was made very welcome. Great service too. Loved the log fires 🥰

Sunday Lunch an absolute knock out; carvery. So much food we were royaly stuffed and enough to take a doggy bag home for the pooch. The chef always wraps us up meat scraps for the dog aswell. super friendly staff and a lovely warm and welcoming restaurant pub, highly recommended and very good value for money x

Excellent food (second recent visit - first was also excellent), a homely atmosphere and friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended.

As a family we went for lunch. Staff were inviting and friendly. We ordered SOP sandwich for 2 of us - it was really dry so asked for some gravy - we were charged £1.50 extra for it. The portion was extremely small we had a child with us and their child plate had more food on it. We had arranged with other friends to go several times since but have chosen not to, the £1.50 charge has lost the Sands House quite a lot of business from family and friends.

It’s a very warm and welcoming place the food is amazing and the staff are very friendly and kind, it’s definitely somewhere I would happily recommend to anyone

Well! All I can say is amazing well that’s how it was!! The food is out of this world, every different aspect of the food just lit my taste buds up. Honestly all my group have said that it’s the best tasting carvery and we shall travel the 1h 23mins to come back as it’s that nice! Really is one of the best meals I have ever eaten and I am hard to impress!! And the staff just seem to have time to chat even though they are busy! Warm welcoming and best food deffo worth a visit.

Beautiful venue & delicious food! We came for a Sunday lunch and had the carvery, which was really tasty. The staff were all really friendly - especially Ruby! The only downside is that it’s quite a small venue and the seating around the carvery area was quite cramped. This wouldn’t stop us returning though.

Staff were lovely and efficient the food on the other hand.....interesting. we contemplated a main meal but nothing appealed. We was having drinks so thought we'd have a couple of starters to share , loaded nachos and warm breads with cheese peppers and tomatoes. Nachos were the consistency dried samosa which were okish. But the warm bread was no word of a lie , a pita bread with tomatoes puree sprinkle of cheese slice of pepper . Sands house used to be the place to go for a great night and great food, sadly on this occasion it wasn't for us :(

Had a great Sunday lunch despite a mistake on my part when I booked for the day previous to our visit. We were accommodated and looked after really well despite my mistake.
